WELCOME to

the LYCEUM

W

ith our new Lyceum Season 2011/12, we want to continue to excite, challenge and intrigue our audiences, while retaining the high standard of work for which the Lyceum Theatre Company is rightly acclaimed. One way to do this is by creating stimulating collaborations with other theatre companies, and this season we have teamed up with some fantastic partners in order to bring you theatre of the very highest standard. We’ll be working with Dundee Rep, the National Theatre of Scotland and Glasgow’s exciting Vox Motus theatre company in a season which includes classics by Liz Lochhead and John Steinbeck, three world premières by Abi Morgan, Peter Arnott and DC Jackson respectively, and finally a striking black comedy by Martin McDonagh. As well as our main season there is, of course, our magical Lyceum Christmas show which, this year, will be another lovingly crafted piece from the pen of Stuart Paterson. Perfect for all the family! Don’t forget to go behind and beyond the work we do on stage with our diverse and inspiring range of Creative Learning activities – with talks, drama workshops, discussion groups, youth theatre and more, the Lyceum is truly a place where you can enrich what you see on stage. I hope you’ll check out the variety of events we have planned for this coming year, and join in! First and foremost are the plays – a collection of which I personally, and we as a company, are very proud. I sincerely hope you’ll be a part of our Season 2011/12 – either by coming to one or two of the shows, or by becoming a Lyceum Season Ticket Holder and seeing all six of our main productions. However you choose to experience the Lyceum, I do hope you enjoy our new Season 2011/12!

One Kingdom. Two Queens. They’ll end up at each other’s throats. This is Liz Lochhead’s acclaimed interpretation of the lives, loves and rivalry of two famed queens, whose insurmountable differences will tear them apart. Mary is young, inexperienced, compassionate, vulnerable. Her older cousin, Elizabeth, rules her own land with ruthless control and no leniency for political foes – even members of her own family. In this deadly game of murder, betrayal and power, there can only be one winner, one ultimate ruler of this “wan green island”. Cast members: Liam Brennan, Lewis Hart, Kevin Lennon, Shauna Macdonald, Stephen McCole, Ann Louise Ross, Emily Winter, Morna Young. This production will transfer to Dundee Rep Theatre, playing from 19 October – 5 November. This is the beginning of a two year partnership between the Lyceum and Dundee Rep. www.dundeerep.co.uk

From the boardroom to the bedroom. It’s a ruthless journey. Award-winning Scottish playwright DC Jackson relocates Pierre Beaumarchais’s famous tale into the ruthless world of contemporary finance. Here, the real deals are done in bars and sexual politics rule the boardroom. Set against a backdrop of expenses scandals and big bonus payouts, Jackson brings his unique style of wit and humour to the touchy subject of big business. With previous work including My Romantic History (Scotsman Fringe First Award 2010), and the trilogy of The Wall, The Ducky and The Chooky Brae, this is Jackson’s first commission for the Lyceum.
