ADUNANZA

International Contemporary Art Exhibition

3-17 December

THE M.A.D. GALLERY

Behind a street of historical relevance, such as Corso S. Gottardo, conceals a remarkable pearl of the social and cultural context of Milan: M.A.D. Gallery. This unique gallery is housed just one step away from the vibrating life of the Italian capital of Fashion&Design, thanks to her closeness to the Darsena and the Navigli area. On the road that leads us to the gallery once there was an important cheesemonger district, but nowadays flows a river of people overtaken by their everyday life. Entering one of the historical courtyards, the n. 18, the chaos of the street doesn’t belong to us anymore.

As we cross the threshold of the gallery, the intimate and the soft enlighten atmosphere will make you feel like home. Space, that once was one of the old “casere”(warehouses where the cheese used to age), is composed of two floors with clear white walls to highlight the importance of the paintings hanged.

ARLETTE DELEVALLÉE

A human pyramid dramatically shows up from the background. A tridimensional element , a hybrid between a human being and a colorful gargoyle , is guarding the “power” of the “Egalitè”. The three artworks of the artist Arlette Delevallée “ Egalité” , “Fraternité” and “Liberté” are aimed to be an ironic contestation of the society and all the corruption and injustice of the powerful organizations. With eccentric and intense colored figures, the artist is able to transform the artwork in its own iconographic language, that subvert the traditional boundaries of the artistic composition.

AL

In the sensitives photos of Anne Sophie Le Penru the reality is always filtered by a black and white lens, used not to cover the truth but, instead, to give a dramatic and realistic effect of the reality.
The battle between dark and light became the opportunity to float to the surface what is invisible, what is held back in the daylight.
The artist brought a shadowed lighting style and a psychologically expressive approach to creating an impressive and deep composition.

YANEVA

The oil on canvas “Illumino” of the artist Yaneva, is an outstanding model of the sensitive and profound language of the artist.
The contrast between shades of blue and white tints attempt to an emotional sphere, a peaceful tones that enable our soul to perceive the mere and pure language. The wide brush strokes are used to build up a fluctuant figure, a woman, delicate as a flower blossoming in a harmonious balance of color.

FABIO D’AGOSTINO

Our lungs are crossed by filthy and smoky air, breathed in chaotic big cities, as Milan. Fabio D’Agostino filtrates an enigmatic paradigm of the contemporary society, living in the rush and relentless streets. A triangle is inscribed on the center of the composition, that holds a tridimensional and disturbing cross. In this way, the artist breaks the boundaries between pictorial and sculptural language.

FARAMAS

Enforced by a strong cultural knowledge, FaraMas give us an insight into the ancient Iranian folklore through the wrinkles and emotional glazes of aged Iranian people, that she portrays as they’ are a “Dastan-tellers” ( narrators of stories and tales).
The signs of time on the skin’s face tell us about a beauty , that has nothing to do with the definition of perfection and flawless magazines’ models, but that is more powerful and heartwarming, objectifying the value of history and time.

CHARLIE LOUIS

In the composition of Charlie Louis explicit erotic allusions speak in a new language, where they don’t turn out to be a vulgar provocation, but a shattered reflection. The artist blends iconographic elements of the traditional sacred art with postmodern themes and features, all offered in a symbolical key of interpretation. The unnatural colors of the tridimensional subject highlight the caricatural effect of the composition, giving an intense emotional impact on the viewer.

CATHAL O MALLEY

The dawn is risen in Connemara, painting the reawakened nature with dim tones. Cathal O Malley 's landscape are just a serene vision for a chaotic mind, a perfect dose of gaiety. The light touch of the artist envelopes the entire atmosphere, a soft luminosity that enlivens the air. Our existence therefore lightens

as we lose ourselves in the boundless Ireland’s landscape.

BRIGITTE JOCHUM

Brigitte Jochum develops her own vocabulary with her artworks, that is fluid and clear. The character in the center of the composition is painted with jarring juxtapositions of a great visual impact that are totally innovative towards the traditional portrait.
A perfect smile livens up the figure’s face, but the glaze is not addressed to the viewer, A dripping effect at the end of the painting gives us a sense of infinity, as the likeness continues to live.

CHRIS HARVEY

As a personal reporter of daily things of life, Chris Harvey expresses himself combining the intense brush stroke and the vivid color of the expressionists with his own personal experience.
The reality is perceptible, but it's not more real, it's filtrate by the artist's deep imagination. A dancer is captured, not during a performance of her delicate movements, but in a motionless moment, where her simply being still conveys a sense of grace and beauty.

DAMIANO CONTI BORBONE

As we have seen in November, Damiano Conti Borbone reduces its visual language to the minimal terms, giving otherwise a powerful meaning that goes beyond the canvas. Emotions ooze outside the body, enveloping us in a flamboyant flame. The human being is a vacuum essence without joy, fear, sadness, anger, harmony and all the feelings that fill, coloring with vivid rays, the blank space of our presence.

CYNTHIA HANSON

Cynthia Hanson for “ Birds Trio” use pen ink on bamboo paper giving a black and white effect, in contrast with the colorful artworks which we are used to. Multi-faced birdlike figures stare at us with an ace glaze, an eagle that knows his prey. A natural environment surrounds the birds: detailed flowers protract toward the upper part of the drawing. On the background a geometrical space is built with minutiae lines, that create a tridimensional and surrealistic dimension. Three levels, as the three faces of the birds, intertwined in the artist’s drawing, interchanging the reality with the illusion .

DANNY HERMANN

Imagination is the main feature of an artist, that throw his emotion into canvas, sculpture, paper as he closes in an inner reality, that steadily grows up around him, creating an own imaginary world that is amazingly reported in the artwork. In Danny Hermann’s composition, the artist is self-portraying himself, enveloped by an unreal dimension with unsettling ghostly figures, distorted and lengthened. German expressionism’s references are lightened in a more merry and sober atmosphere, that eye-catches immediately our attention and curiosity, so that the focus point is not more on the center of the canvas, but on the freaking surround.

ELENA KNOLL

Environmental issues blend with the bright compositions of Elena Knoll,Human activity , particularly over the last few decade, has pushed oceans to their limit, harming the entire marine habitat and species. The fascinating drawing of the artist “FishCatch” is a statement in order to make the public more aware and sensitive toward the abuse and destruction of the seafloor. Our hooks will catch what once we have discarded and thrown out in the oceans. We will be submerged by our selfishness, searching for the lost beauty on Earth.

FABIO BELLONI

The reality has no choice but to be captured by Fabio Belloni’s reflex, and soul. The series of photos taken in a creepy ex-asylum reach a peak with “Door to nowhere” A decadent hallway brings to an open gate, symbol of the unknown. The central perspective guides our eyes throughout a shade, from the grey tones to the colored ones, inviting us to believe that the suffer is over, and a grain of hope is opening wide in front of us.

FNoRD

In the chaos of life, a scream is heard from the bowels of our being.
The artist FNoRD portrays a face in a state of fear, with eyes and mouth wide open, using the peculiar technique of collage that allows the artist to gather symbols, words, images to create a cohesive artistic character. Restless and emotionally strong images are aimed to achieve the maximum of expressiveness.

GLORIA MARTINEZ VERS

The Spanish artist Gloria Martinez Vers transposes the warming and vivid atmosphere of her land in her composition " Poppies". A bright rich red tone recalls the color of the poppies blossoming in summer.
With gentle lines and vivid colors, the artist tries to connect her profound sensations with the sensitive perception of the viewer.
Organic pigments are used to give a material aspect to the canvas : the artist doesn't live exclusively in her own world , but her artwork is close to the world we live in.

IPUNG PURNOMO

The art of Ipung Purnomo is an unceasing research of a final form and unique style. The figures arranged upside down don't stare at each other, but they share the same melancholic expression. The raw language of shape strengthen the power of the image. A foreign culture prepare the ground to raise his voice.

JACOPO GHISLANZONI

In “ CLAY and the TV” wise geometrical structures are built in order to give a composed and precise arrangement of all the parts that create the work. Words, that have flown from the Jacopo Ghislanzoni’s mind , seize the vivid red background, sealing thoughts and emotions.
On the foreground a farce of the human being laughs on the couch, watching the Tv. The humor that permeates the atmosphere is strongly evident, but is used as a critic against the contemporary social environment, that is more often characterized and manipulated by the media.

LEILA LABELLE

Multifaceted artist Leila Labelle is able to transform her great passion for the oriental culture in stunning artworks.
In “ Perfume of orient- Azuro Kimono” the artist use an iconographic symbol of the Japanese custom, the kimono, in order to honor the timeless beauty of foreign lands.
The artist introduces in her composition a calligraphic phrase to attempt emphasis on the calligraphic art, as the maximum formalization of the oriental culture.

JANE GOTTLIEB

Jane Gottlieb presents for the latest edition of Adunanza some photographs of her “Joy Rides collection, that introduce us to her brand new technique that she adopts to reinvent and celebrate the usage of color. The photographic compositions are an unusual product of the development of new and more original technique used by the artist to modify her prints and photos with an exclusive approach.

LIGIA SILVA

In the imaginary of the Brazilian artist Ligia Silva , a green ogre is pleased to smell a bunch of flowers: vitality is alive.
The metaphorical composition is a gentle invitation, in fact, Ligia Silva invites the human beings to respect their cities, to respect nature, in order to live a more bright and colored life, in the deferential of the environment. Looking at this work, we can see how this artist is trying to understand the city and times in which she’s living.

LEVIA MONCRIEFFE-KALLAI

A bridal event: the nature with the mankind. Women have always represented, since art has existed, the paradigm of fertility, birth, therefore results as the most symbolic figures to represent a connection with nature. Levia Moncrieffe-Kallai with the delicate juxtaposition of pigments, conveys a sort of bristling energy that permeates her pictorial language.

MAKI CHEN

Maki Chen's artworks are “made of the same matter of the dreams , the same delicacy and the same effect of the magic visions. As we see in " Tapei's sky" the city of Tapei becomes the background of a oneiric scene, assuming a different and vivid appearance from the reality. Livid and contrasting colors seems to drag us in a parallel universe, without turning away from figuration.

MICHELE FRANCESCHINI

The high-detailed photos of Michele Franceschini catch the reality in his smallest size. As we see in “Goccia di luna” , the attention paid by the artist to the minute part of the matter becomes an innovative way to discover the beauty of the world.
A single drop conceals thousands of enchanting aspects, that the artist seizes without re-elaborating the image.

PAOLO RIBOLI

A deeply glaze between two lovers, the chemistry that can be smelled in the air. This is the firstly impression that these emotional paintings can rise on the viewer. Paolo Riboli definitely knows how to recreate certain feelings, and he knows how the intense brush stroke has to fill the canvas, in order to have a sensitive impact.
Halfway between Kokoschka and Van Gogh, the artist made up a vivid expressionism, which channels his tumultuous sensations in a vibrant composition.

ROBERTA PETITTO

Sea that meets the sky. A bird that meets the freedom. Eyes that meet serenity. “ Cuore di cristallo” becomes for the young Roberta Petitto, or just Titto, a definition for the infinite possibilities of the mind.
 The material surface develops into an abstract form, that glorifies the c o l o r b l u e w i t h a l l h i s t o n e s c o m b i n e d t o g e t h e r.
As results the composition releases a peaceful energy, that quietens the chaos of the soul.

SILVANA MAZZUCCHELLI

The photographer Silvana Mazzucchelli certainly evokes an enigmatic atmosphere, instantly perceived as we behold her artwork “Essenziale”. The composition is truly essential, but with a touch of mystery that forces us to want to discover if what we see is an illusion or not. There’s a sense in which the viewer is encouraged to enter the image, to move or wander through the pictorial scenery.

SYLVIA SCIANNAME

It’s almost impossible to be not fascinated by the range of color that paint the autumn’s atmosphere. In the same way, it’s not possible to be not fascinated by Silvia Scyanname’s artwork. The arresting palette of colors strongly impresses our sensitivity with a breathing season, that bursts in a spectacular and emotional harmony.

TANA

Tana has definitely gathered all her skills to create a her own artistic language, that characterized all her photos. The relationship between dance, performance and art is accomplished in order to evoke a series of emotional photos. Tana presents a new series of picture, in which a blinded woman is sitting in an etheric atmosphere, soft-enlightened by a white filter. Her works speaks in a new way, blending for the first time two different arts : the photograph and the theatrical performance.

TONY STUCKENS

Tony Stuckens’ lively texture and intense tension of the gesture are an attempt to reach an emotional dimension. There is a great emphasis on the dissolution of figurative language and on the organization of space, where geometrical forms have a supporting role in the composition. In “Folklore” the proper balance of colors is combined with an unrest atmosphere, giving to the viewer a new perspective of the abstract language.

VALÉRIE HERBIN

“Les sables mouvants”(the shifting sand) become “Mes sable emouvants” (my emotional sand ) : with this little game of words the french artist Valerie Herbin sums up her aesthetic view on the artistic gesture. Artist’s hand is moved by the inner sensations of her soul, and brings to the canvas the feelings that she conceals in her heart. The sunlight livens up the composition with gold tones, beloved by the artist that moved from Paris to the shining Messico.
