Analisi critica a cura della Dott.ssa Daria Cremonesi
“To me, colours are like really evolved living beings who integrate with us and with the world. Colours are the real inhabitants of the space.”
There is a lot of Nada Bittar’s personal story and experience in her artworks. She is born in Latakia, Syria, but then she moved to USA. She says herself that these two cultures have deeply influences her art. Her artworks are certainly characterized by the fusion of different styles with bright, lively, almost gaudy colours, with the intention to spread a message of joy and hope to everyone who stops and looks at them. She also says that art is present in her life since she was a child, when her mother pushed her to believe in herself and to cultivate her art and her talent. When she grew up, painting became a fundamental part of her life.
She uses dierent styles and means but she stays faithful to the colours, especially bright and lively colours. She even says that colour is what makes a life worth living. Colour sends messages of hope and love and makes an artwork unique and powerful. It catches the viewer’s eye and invites him to merge completely into the painting until he can feel himself in another world. A world that, as Nada has experienced, can sometimes be mean and brutal but that always hides shades of magic and beauty. Maybe because she had to run away from a dark side of the world, Nada started to paint lively and joyful subjects and landscapes, as if they were the representation of her dreams that become alive on the canvas and then can be unveiled to the viewer.
Talking about the fusion of the two culture of Nada, this can be easily noticed in Jasmine, a feminine face with simple and clean traits, bright colours and plain surfaces that remind of the American pop art, while some details of the hairstyle and of the makeup are a reminder of the Arabic tradition.
