Wendy Yeo è una pittrice di Hong Kong diplomata alla Slade School of Fine Art, Università di Londra. Ha ricevuto vari premi tra cui il Slade Summer Competition (primo premio); Young Contemporaries, (Primo premio); il Wilson Steer Landscape Prize (primo premio) e una borsa di studio itinerante in Italia e Francia dove ha frequentato l'Atelier 17 a Parigi. Wendy Yeo ha esposto in mostre personali in tutto il Regno Unito e all'estero, tra cui Hong Kong, New York, California, Istanbul e Kuwait oltre ad essere stata eletta membro della Royal Watercolor Society of Wales. Le opere di Wendy Yeo possono considerarsi una sintesi, un incontro, tra oriente e occidente. L’artista è in grado di fondere l’espressionismo e la matericità occidentale con l’idea di gestualità orientale. Una gestualità che rasenta il sublime nel suo esprimersi tramite linee morbide che stimolano uno stato di attesa, una calma interrotta da movimenti circolari che ne estinguono il silenzio per un breve attimo, come un sasso lanciato in uno specchio d’acqua. I soggetti, l’idea di un flusso costante e specialmente le linee, tipicamente gestuali negli acquerelli, richiamano le tecniche pittoriche cinesi dello zen (in Cina Chan) che si legano all’idea di spiritualità del segno e della pittura stessa. Una spiritualità che nelle opere di Wendy Yeo ritroviamo in chiave contemporanea, modulata attraverso i colori morbidi e incanalata nella potenza di un dettaglio, nell’impressione di un istante che si materializza sul supporto. Wendy Yeo, is a Hong Kong born painter who graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art, University of London. She was awarded various prizes including Slade Summer Competition, (First Prize); Young Contemporaries, (First Prize); the Wilson Steer Landscape Prize (First Prize), and a Travelling Scholarship to Italy and France where she attended Atelier 17 in Paris. Wendy Yeo has exhibited widely in Solo Exhibitions throughout the UK and overseas including Hong Kong, New York, California, Istanbul and Kuwait and was also elected a member of the Royal Watercolor Society of Wales. Wendy Yeo's works can be considered a synthesis, a meeting, between East and West. The artist is able to found expressionism and Western materiality with the idea of oriental gestures. A gesture that borders on the sublime in its expression through soft lines that stimulate a state of expectation, a calm interrupted by circular movements that extinguish the silence for a brief moment, like a stone thrown into a mirror of water. The subjects, the idea of a constant flow and especially the lines, typically gestural in her watercolors, recall the Chinese pictorial techniques of Zen (in China Chan) that are linked to the idea of spirituality of the sign and of the painting itself. A spirituality that in the works of Wendy Yeo we find in a contemporary way, modulated through soft colors and channeled in the power of a detail, in the impression of an instant that materializes on the support.
Stream in Autumn è un’opera che manifesta la potenza del dettaglio tramite l’utilizzo di pennellate corpose e dense accostate a linee morbide, inserite in uno specchio di colori delicati. Un’impressione che evoca le Ninfee di Monet tramite un flusso continuo di linee circolari che danno profondità.

Stream in Autumn is a work that shows the power of detail through the use of full and thick brushstrokes combined with soft lines, inserted in a mirror of delicate colors. An impression that evokes Monet's Water Lilies through a continuous flow of circular lines that give depth.
In quest’opera si trova la potenza e la morbidezza al tempo stesso. Whirpool in Autumn è un groviglio di linee che generano un turbine di rocce e acqua interrotto da immobili fiori rossi e arancioni che creano, nella loro staticità, ordine nel disordine della composizione accentrata. Un mulinello d’acqua che sembra debba inghiottire da un momento all’altro i soggetti per trascinarli nell’azzurro calmo dello sfondo. In this work is the power and softness at the same time. Whirpool in Autumn is a tangle of lines that generate a whirlwind of rocks and water interrupted by motionless red and orange flowers that create, in their stillness, order in the mess of the centralized composition. A whirlpool of water that seems to swallow at any moment the subjects to drag them into the calm blue of the background.

Un’opera dai soggetti che richiamano l’arte orientale, Fish and Rocks rappresenta la vita appena sotto l’acqua, debolmente mossa da linee circolari che si fondono e confondono nello spazio. Le rocce sembrano non avere consistenza e librarsi in questo fondale che trasporta al suo interno mentre i pesci rossi, nella loro gestualità priva di contorno, seguono l’andamento morbido delle linee, quasi fossero trasportati anche loro da esse. Una calma naturale che sembra essere scossa da un sasso lanciato in acqua.

A work with subjects that recall oriental art, Fish and Rocks represents life just under water, weakly moved by circular lines that merge and confuse into the space. The rocks seem to have no consistency and hover in this backdrop that carries inside while the red fish, in their gestures without outline, follow the soft lines, as if they were also transported by them. A natural calm that seems to be shaken by a stone thrown into the water.
