Macklowe Gallery is the world’s premier dealer of Twentieth Century Decorative Arts, specializing in antique and estate jewelry, the lamps and glass of Louis Comfort Tiffany, French Art Nouveau furniture and objects, and lithographs by Alphonse Mucha. Each piece in the Gallery is chosen for its beauty, rarity and historic importance. For 50 years scholars, museum curators, and collectors have sought us out for the best, and this has made Macklowe Gallery respected worldwide. As we look back on the year, we are proudest to have placed works of art and jewelry in the collections of the Australian National Gallery, the Museum of Art and Industry of Hamburg, and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. We have also lent works to the Driehaus Museum in Chicago and the Hudson River Museum, just north of New York City. The Gallery’s President, Benjamin Macklowe, is quickly becoming more prominent as a thought leader in the fields of antiques and fine jewelry. He has recently lectured at Christie’s Auction House, the International Society of Appraisers, and the Winterthur Museum, and will be giving more educational talks at important venues in the coming year.

TIFFANY LAMPS

TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK Poppy Table Lamp 21¼” high x 16½ diameter This Poppy lamp shows Tiffany’s mastery of metalwork: he incorporated intricate wire mesh in the shade to represent the veins of the leaves and the details of the blossoms, and wove bronze into a fascinating pattern for the Twig and Berry base. TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK Flowering Water Lily Table Lamp 31” high x 20” diameter This Flowering Water Lily lamp is exemplary of Tiffany’s fascination with the mysteries of nature. TIFFANY LAMPS

TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK Russian Table Lamp 27” high x 20” diameter Although Tiffany never made explicitly religious lamps, the Russian shade closely recalls his ecclesiastical windows in its architectural pattern and the sky blue panels that seem to recede into the shade. The Russian shade is perfectly matched with the Four Virtues base. The four virtues— Truth, Charity, Loyalty, and Purity—are depicted on each side of the column, contributing to the spiritual feel of this special lamp. Price Upon Request

TIFFANY LAMPS

TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK Drophead Dragonfly Floor Lamp 65” high x 22” diameter

TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK Peony Border Floor Lamp 78¼” high x 24¼” diameter

The Drophead Dragonfly lamp is a variation on one of Tiffany’s most famous themes. In this special lamp, the wings and heads of the insects form an architectural border, making the dragonflies appear to be in flight.

This monumental Peony Border lamp is exemplary of Tiffany’s ability to “paint” in glass: by setting multi-faceted flowers against a thicket of green leaves and a sky blue ground, he was able to create a beautiful and naturalistic landscape.

TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK Linenfold Table Lamp 22” high x 15¾ diameter In the Linenfold lamp, Tiffany Studios created a trompe l’oeil illusion by expertly molding glass panels to look like silk, a fabric which was commonly used for lamp shades at the turn of the twentieth century. This lamp may appear to be uncharacteristic of the artist, but it shows Tiffany’s versatility and aesthetic range. $22,500

94

TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK Dragonfly Table Lamp 27” high x 20” diameter This Dragonfly lamp is at the pinnacle of Tiffany’s color spectrum, with each piece of glass containing at least four different hues that transition from bright golds to deep blues in an unrestrained yet artful manner.
