La galerie Zidoun-Bossuyt de renommée internationale, basée initialement au Luxembourg, propose un programme diversifié d’expositions ainsi que des projets historiques. Elle est connue pour avoir introduit au Luxembourg certains des artistes afro-américains les plus influents à une époque où ils étaient encore relativement méconnus.

En 2022, la galerie poursuit son programme d’expansion avec deux nouveaux emplacements; un à Dubaï (ouvert depuis mars 2022) et un à Paris (en septembre 2022). Ces nouveaux projets ont été principalement motivés par la volonté d’offrir aux artistes une visibilité dans trois lieux différents avec leurs opportunités spécifiques respectives. Dubaï, avec ses voisins Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, le Qatar et l’Arabie Saoudite, a développé un écosystème dynamique pour créer une scène artistique contemporaine connectée au monde de l’art international. Le musée Guggenheim d’Abu Dhabi devrait ouvrir ses portes en Zidoun-Bossuyt Gallery - the leading gallery in Luxembourg for contemporary art - offers a diverse exhibition programme as well as special historical projects. Madame Magazine - Pourquoi lancer votre première galerie autonome dans la région à Dubaï ? Et pourquoi choisir Jumeirah comme emplacement ?

Audrey Bossuyt - Dubaï et Luxembourg partagent certaines similitudes. Le Grand-Duché de Luxembourg est un pays propice aux affaires. Il bénéficie d’une économie très dynamique générant l’un des PIB par habitant les plus élevés au monde. Un autre aspect du Luxembourg commun avec Dubaï est son esprit cosmopolite avec plus de 50% de la population non luxembourgeoise. Nous sommes donc honorés d’étendre notre galerie du cœur de l’Europe à l’une des villes les plus dynamiques et passionnantes du Moyen-Orient et de participer à l’intérêt croissant des EAU pour l’art contemporain. the global art world. MM - Pouvez-vous nous en dire plus sur les artistes exposés pour votre inauguration? AB - Pour célébrer l’ouverture de sa nouvelle galerie à Dubaï, la galerie ZidounBossuyt a présenté des œuvres d’artistes de différentes générations et cultures, reflétant sa programmation diversifiée, tels que Noel W. Anderson, Martine Feipel & Jean Bechameil, Louis Granet, Yashua Klos, John Madu, Tomokazu Matsuyama, Jeff Sonhouse et Summer Wheat entre autres. Ce nouvel espace d’art permettra un large éventail d’expositions axé sur les artistes émergents afro-américains et africains et renforcera le positionnement international fort de la galerie dans le monde de l’art.

MM - Quelle est, selon vous, l’apport de l’art afro-américain dans le monde

MM - Can you tell us more about the artists that you have been exhibiting for your inauguration show? AB - To celebrate the opening of its new gallery in Dubai, Zidoun-Bossuyt Gallery showcased works by artists from different generations and cultures, reflecting its diverse program, such as Noel W. Anderson, Martine Feipel & Jean Bechameil, Louis Granet, Yashua Klos, John Madu, Tomokazu Matsuyama, Jeff Sonhouse and Summer Wheat among others. This new art space will allow an expanded exhibition program with a focus upon Afro- American and African emerging artists and reinforce the strong international positioning of the gallery in the art world.

MM - What is, in your opinion, the contribution of Afro American art in the contemporary world of today? AB - We gain a deeper understanding of our world through art. Contemporary art is often about ideas and concerns, rather than solely the aesthetic. The Afro-American artists are a good example. When people of different background and races view art that depicts the humanity of black people, they may come to have some understanding of their condition. Our gallery is known for having introduced some of the most influential Afro-American artists to Luxembourg at a time when they were still relatively unknown as for example Terry Adkins, Noel Anderson, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Wangechi Mutu and Jeff Sonhouse. contemporain d’aujourd’hui ? AB - Nous acquérons une compréhension plus profonde de notre monde à travers l’art. L’art contemporain est souvent une question d’idées et de préoccupations, plutôt qu’uniquement d’esthétique. Les artistes afro-américains en sont un bon exemple. Lorsque des personnes d’origines et de races différentes regardent l’art qui dépeint la condition des Noirs, elles peuvent en venir à avoir une certaine compréhension de celle-ci. Notre galerie est connue pour avoir introduit au Luxembourg certains des artistes afroaméricains les plus influents à une époque où ils étaient encore relativement méconnus comme par exemple Terry Adkins, Noel Anderson, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Wangechi Mutu et Jeff Sonhouse. Elle s’est concentrée sur les artistes émergents afro-américains ainsi que sur ceux de la diaspora africaine tels que Njideka Akumyili Crosby, originaire du Nigéria mais vivant aux États-Unis. Il était logique et dans la continuité de notre programme de nous intéresser aux artistes africains basés en Afrique et de faire découvrir aux collectionneurs la richesse de leur créativité.

MM - Quels sont les artistes émiriens qui figurent dans votre liste des incontournables et qui sont vos clients d’art luxembourgeois aux EAU ?

AB - Nous sommes en pleine recherche et nous profitons à présent d’être installés à Dubaï pour prendre notre temps et visiter des ateliers d’artistes locaux. Comme nous l’avons fait au Grand Duché en représentant certains artistes luxembourgeois et promouvoir leur art dans le monde à travers des foires d’art, nous souhaitons également utiliser notre nom et notre réputation pour promouvoir certains artistes émiriens à l’étranger. MM - Which are the Emirati artists who are in your to-be-seen list and who are your clients for Luxembourgish art in the UAE? AB - We are already doing some research and we will take the opportunity now that we are installed in Dubai to take our time and visit local artists’ studios. As we did in Luxembourg by representing certain Luxembourgish artists and promote their art in the world through art fairs, we also wish to use our name and reputation to promote some UAE artists abroad.

Until 30 September MARTINE FEIPEL JEAN BECHAMEIL Working as a twosome since 2008, Feipel & Bechameil - the Franco-Luxembourgish duo - produce installations where there is a mix of illusion, imagination, instability and illogicality within gridded and controlled places in the contemporary world. As sculptors but also amateur researchers and engineers, informed by a great sensibility with regard to the theatricality of the world and its various forms of beauty, they create works within a socio-historical, aesthetic, political and technical approach. In combining their many areas of know-how in various fields - drawing, sculpture, engineering, directing and presentation, and sets -, they are producing an oeuvre that is as formally accomplished as it is powerfully engaged.
