Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
by Tennessee Williams March 21-April 20, 2014
Mad Cow Theatre Mad Cow Theatre was founded on the belief that the theatre is a dynamic and powerful means of social understanding, as well as a hugely entertaining art form. Through the combination of passionate, skillful acting and compelling, insightful writing, nurtured by an attentive and ever-changing process, Mad Cow presents entertaining works of theatre to an ever-widening audience — promoting, enhancing and celebrating the human condition through art. Mad Cow Theatre is supported in part with public funds from the United Arts campaign and by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture, the Florida Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Downtown Development Board, and Orange County through the Arts & Cultural Affairs Program. A great nation deserves great art! Mad Cow is a 501(c)(3) organization and welcomes all donations including funds, materials, time and good will. We are especially delighted when audience members bring others to share the theatrical experience.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Cat on a Hot Tin Roof — Tennessee Williams’ favorite of all his plays, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof can be better appreciated today than when it was written in 1955 or even in 1974, when Williams brought his craftsmanship to bear in revising it. Now that the question of Brick’s latent or actual homosexuality no longer shocks as it once did, audiences can savor more fully the play’s lyricism and thematic richness, its human drama, and its range of compelling characters. As a star athlete, Brick has always come into his own on the playing field. Now, confined to one room of Big Daddy’s plantation home, he is forced to be the spectator of power plays among members of his family. The stakes are high, for the winner stands to inherit “28,000 acres of the richest land this side of the valley Nile.” The competition is played out with truth and lies, but only Maggie the Cat is capable of giving life to a lie. The themes of truth and mendacity, gamesmanship and survival, are tightly intertwined with sexuality and death. As Clive Barnes noted in his review of the 1974 production, “People used to think that Tennessee Williams’ plays are about sex and violence. How wrong they were – they are about love and survival.” Londre, Felicia H. Words at Play: Creative Writing and Dramaturgy. Carbondale: Southern Illinois University, 2005. 235. Print.
TennesseE Williams (Playwright) Tennessee Williams (1911-1983) was one of America’s most prolific and important playwrights. Something Clear (1981). Not About Nightingales, which he wrote in 1947, was produced at the Royal National Theatre, London, and at the Alley Theatre, Houston, in 1998 with great success.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Most recently he was the sound designer for Florencia en el Amazonas, as well as Spring Awakening, Cabaret, and Studio Dance, the MFA thesis presentation at the University of Illinois. Will would like to thank the cast and crew for their support on this production. TOMMY KEESLING (Doctor Baugh) has appeared in several Mad Cow productions, including Arcadia, Our Town, The Constant Wife, The Seagull, Pericles, I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young Lady From Rwanda, Eurydice, Amadeus, She Stoops to Conquer, The Pitmen Painters, August: Osage County, Mrs. Warren’s Profession, Enchanted April, Death of a Salesman and most recently as Tom in Table Manners. He has appeared on several other Central Florida stages in past years, including The Pillowman for Hubris Theatre, Take Me Out for Theatre Downtown, and this past December in Season’s Greetings for Bay Street Players’ Second Stage series. He has performed at the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival and has also appeared in staged readings for Mad Cow, PlayFest and Women Playwrights’ Initiative. DAVID JACHIN KELLEY (Brick) Originally from the Pacific Northwest, David has performed on stages around the world from Off-Broadway to Tokyo. David’s credits include the Cowherd in Gotham! (Goodspeed), Cinderella’s Prince in Into the Woods (Orlando Shakespeare), Javert in Les Miserables (Seaside Music Theater), Georg in She Loves Me (Mad Cow Theatre & Caldwell Theatre) and the title role in the Southeast premiere of Johnny Guitar (Actors’ Playhouse). On camera
David can be seen in Trick Pony’s music video “It’s a Heartache”, the National Geographic film Evacuate Earth, Academy Award finalist documentary Gimme Green and several national commercials. David graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City and Western Oregon University. Discover more about David Kelley at www.David-Kelley.com. Love to Krista, Angeline and Michael. KAREEN KENNEDY (Sookey) Originally from the island of Jamaica, Kareen has always loved storytelling. But when she first arrived in New York City as a teenager, modeling was the art form she pursued. A resident of Orlando for the past eight years, Kareen moved from modeling to acting after a small role in a staged reading ignited her desire to become an actor. She continues to grow and perfect her craft as a storyteller while establishing herself as a presence in the acting community through additional roles onstage and appearances in film productions as a supporting actress. Kareen credits her growth to the teachings of Dennis Neal and Rus Blackwell, who are the epitome of what instructors should aspire to be. When she is not busy in her role as mom to her teenage son Noah and daughter Cheyenne, her pastimes are rock-wall climbing, zip-lining and the gym. After all, if life is a race, what better way to be prepared than by staying active? MICHAEL G. KNIGHT (Reverend Tooker) is from Mt. Pleasant, MI, where he earned his degree from Central Michigan University in teaching and theater. While at CMU, he became a member of Alpha Psi Omega, an honor theater fraternity, and performed
7
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in many groundbreaking shows, including as Paul in Permanent Collection, Carter in Fat Pig, and the Narrator in Into the Woods. Since moving to Orlando to pursue entertainment, Michael has appeared in many shows, including Legally Blonde: The Musical for TheatreWorks Florida, The Big Oz for Jester Theater, and Jackie and Me for Orlando Repertory Theatre, and he participated in Mad Cow Theatre’s reading of An Experiment with an Air Pump. He could not be more thrilled to be here! AMANDA LEAKEY (Mae) is excited to be returning to Mad Cow Theatre for her second season. She had the privilege to open up the new space as the Nurse/Naomi in Sunday in The Park with George. She graduated from Rollins College with her BA in theatre arts with an emphasis in performance. Upon graduation she was an acting/education intern for Orlando Shakespeare Theater, where she played the title role and her evil counterpart in Miss Nelson Has a Field Day. A few other credits include Miss Nelson is Missing (OST), Ragtime (St. Lukes), Charlotte’s Web (OST) and The Light in the Piazza (Mad Cow Theatre). Amanda is an EMC for Actors’ Equity. She would like to thank Mom, Dad, Katelynn, Meagan and Christian for all of their love and support! STEPHEN E. MIDDLETON (Gooper) Stephen graduated from Lock Haven University with a bachelor’s degree
in speech communication and theatre. He is thrilled to be returning to Mad Cow the way he began almost 15 years ago — with Tennessee Williams. His first show with Mad Cow was The Glass Menagerie as the Gentleman Caller. He was also seen in Mad Cow productions of The Cherry Orchard, Ghosts and The Seagull. Favorite non-Mad Cow productions include Civic Theatre of Central Florida’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile with Tommy Keesling and Theatre Downtown’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf with Bobbie Bell, both of whom he is very excited to be working with again, along with the rest of this talented cast. He was most recently seen in Beth Marshall Presents’ Our Town, where he was fortunate enough to be onstage with his entire family, Jamie, Christian and the-yet unborn Ariel, to all of whom he dedicates his performance. ERIN MINER (Lighting Design) Cat on a Hot Tin Roof marks Erin’s 71st show with Mad Cow Theatre. She is excited to be working with Bobbie. When not at Mad Cow, she can be found in the fields of Apopka High School as a drama teacher. RON SCHNEIDER (Big Daddy) is a graduate of Los Angeles City College Theatre Academy’s School of Acting and Directing. He has recently appeared in IceHouse Theatre’s Fiddler on the Roof (Tevye, the Dairyman) and in Orlando Shakespeare Theater’s Othello (Gratiano), Taming of the Shrew

German and minoring in theatre. Originally from St. Louis, he designed sound for New Line Theatre for Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Cry Baby, and Passing Strange. He recently worked on Table Manners as the dancing assistant stage manager. Dil also works at PNC as a marketing sales ambassador. EMILY SMITH (Costume Designer) celebrates her twelfth show with Mad Cow. Her costume, prop, and scenic work have been seen across Central Florida and New England theatres and theme parks, including our own dear Annie Russell. She fondly remembers designs for Cabaret, Around the World in 80 Days, Is He Dead?, Sunday in the Park With George, Billy Bishop Goes to War, Death of a Salesman, Other Desert Cities and, most recently, Table Manners and The Mountaintop at Mad Cow. SUMMER DAWN WALLACE (Maggie) is thrilled to be making her Mad Cow debut. Summer is a proud MFA graduate of the FSU/Asolo Conservatory and an AEA and SAG-AFTRA member. Projects include Hamlet, Yentl with singer-songwriter Jill Sobule, Lady of the Sea, and Once in a Lifetime (Asolo Repertory Theatre), Always Patsy Cline and Not Now Darling (Lagniappe Theatre). A southern native, Summer discovered Tennessee Williams at a young age and has been waiting to speak the beautiful text ever since. She would like to thank Mad Cow, Grant, Winston and Cullie. KAREL K. WRIGHT (Big Mama) Mad Cow audiences may remember Karel as Ruth Steiner in Collected Stories, Mrs. Graves in Enchanted April, Mrs. Hardcastle in She Stoops
