CHARLES BUSCH, PLAYWRIGHT

Charles Louis Busch (born August 23, 1954) is an American actor, screenwriter, playwright and female impersonator, known for his appearances on stage in his own camp style plays and in film and television. He wrote and starred in his early plays Off-off-Broadway beginning in 1978, generally in drag roles, and also acted in the works of other playwrights. He also wrote for television and began to act in films and on television in the late 1990s. His best known play is The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife (2000), which was a success on Broadway. Charles Busch is the author and star of such plays as The Divine Sister, The Lady in Question, Red Scare on Sunset and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, which ran five years and is one of the longest running plays in Off-Broadway history.

His play The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife ran for 777 performances on Broadway and won Mr. Busch the Outer Circle Critics John Gassner Award and received a Tony nomination for Best Play. He wrote and starred in the film versions of his plays, Psycho Beach Party and Die Mommie Die, the latter of which won him the Best Performance Award at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2003, Mr. Busch received a special Drama Desk Award for career achievement as both performer and playwright. Mr. Busch made his directorial debut with the film A Very Serious Person, which premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival, where it won an honorable mention. He is also the subject of the documentary film The Lady in Question is Charles Busch. His many plays are published by Samuel French.

The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife KATE THOMAS-DENSON (Frieda) was last seen at Mad Cow Theatre in Born Yesterday, and she is excited to be playing Frieda in this show. Before moving to Orlando, she worked at Barter Theatre in Virginia both as an actor and as a teacher with the Youth Academy. In Miami, she worked at Actors’ Playhouse, Florida Shakespeare Theatre, and the Ruth Foreman Theatre. Love to family and friends.

CYNTHIA BECKERT (Lee Green) is delighted to be back at Mad Cow with drector Tony Simotes after having worked with him last season on The God Game. Cynthia recently played the Pilot in Grounded, the Italian storyteller La Befana in EPCOT’s Holidays Around the World, and the evil sorceress Miseria in Universal Studios’ The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad. She has an MA in theatre from Florida State University and an MFA in acting from the University of California, Irvine.

LAURA HODOS (Marjorie Taub) is a singer, actor, improv artist, and cabarista. At Mad Cow, she was John Adams in 1776 and appeared in The Light in the Piazza, Sweeney Todd, and many Orlando Cabaret Festivals. Laura has won the Miami New Times, Broadway World, and Silver Palm awards and has been a six-time Carbonell Award nominee. She has written and performed 10 solo cabarets and has performed at theatres all over the country. BAILEE BOOSER (Costume Designer) graduated from the University of South Florida with a BA in theatre design. Recent costume designs: Big River (Mad Cow Theatre), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Sound of Music (Orlando Repertory Theatre), along with shows at Jobsite Theater, Stageworks Theatre, and Orlando Shakespeare Theater. She also works in entertainment costuming at Walt Disney World. She would like to thank her dad and mom for all that they’ve done for her. LISA BUCK (Properties Master) Set designs include The Road to Mecca, Mrs. Warren’s Profession, and Painting Churches (Mad Cow Theatre), Don Pasquale, Abduction from the Seraglio, and Carmina Burana (Orlando Opera), Madama Butterfly, II Barbieredi Siviglia, Tosca, and The Magic Flute (Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra). Lisa studied painting at Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, and Cobalt Studios. She has won numerous awards for her painting and has written how-to-paint articles for North Light Publications.

MATT HOROHOE (Ira Taub) has appeared in Mad Cow’s productions of Sunday in the Park with George, Death of a Salesman, Clybourne Park, and Animal Crackers. Trained at Montclair State University, he is a member of Actors’ Equity. ERIN MINER (Lighting Designer) The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife marks Erin’s 80th show with Mad Cow Theatre. When not at Mad Cow, she can be found in the fields of Apopka High School as a drama teacher.

KATIE RINALDI (Stage Manager) is in her second season with Mad Cow. An Orlando native, Katie has been on the stage since before she was born – literally. She has a BFA in stage management from the University of Central Florida. Recent credits: Vault of Souls in Tampa; Legally Blonde the Musical (Trinity Prep Summer Theatre Intensive); and Born Yesterday, Skylight, Constellations, The God Game, and the Orlando Cabaret Festival’s It Was a Very Good Year (all at Mad Cow).
