THE PERFECT MATCH

Written by Madison Alford

FADE IN: INT. HELIOS’ APARTMENT- 8 AM The sound of an ALARM goes off as the screen fades in on HELIOS sleeping on his bed. The clock reads 8:00 AM. He excitedly turns off the alarm and jumps out of bed. Helios stands proudly out of his bed and we see his full body. He is a tall man with muscular tanned skin, and flaming red hair with orange-ish yellow highlights to resemble fire. Helios runs over to his calendar and June 20th is circled. He checks it. SUPER: Make your debut and take down Captain Greatness! Helios lifts weights and boxes at a punching bag to get ready for the day. He throws two darts at a dart board with pictures of CAPTAIN GREATNESS, a generic looking super hero with a chizzled jaw and brown hair, and EIRA, a woman with ice blue hair and pale skin. He puts on his super villain outfit- a classic comic book outfit that is red with boots that look like fire. 9 AM Helios is heading out the door and opens it. When he opens it, he sees his neighbor and her son. His neighbor talks to Helios and his eyes look down to the little boy who is holding his goldfish, SPOT. Helios scratches his neck as he stares at the boy and then looks back up at his neighbor. She gives the villain a note. SUPER: (345) 235-1111 5:00 The son hands over the goldfish and a bag of supplies to Helios. He waves goodbye as his mother hurries him down the steps of the apartment complex. Helios looks down at the fish bowl now in his hands and raises it to eye level.

2. Inside the bowl is Spot, who has a large white spot on his left side, a dog house decoration with Spot’s name written on it, a fern, and blue and pink rocks. Spot lets out a bubble. Helios retreats back inside, closing the door behind him. He sets Spot down on the counter in his kitchen. Spot lets out a bubble. The villain lets out a sigh and looks at the clock. 10 AM Helios feeds Spot and the fish doesn’t move from it’s place in the bowl. The food just sinks in the water. Spot lets out a bubble. 11 AM Helios sits at the counter and stares at Spot, disinterested in the fish. Spot lets out a bubble. 12 PM Helios opens the freezer and pulls out some fish sticks. He looks at the cooking instructions and then his eyes slowly look towards Spot. Spot lets out a bubble. Helios returns the fish sticks and leans his head against the freezer door. 1 PM Helios and Spot lounge on the couch together and watch the news. Captain Greatness and Eira are fighting on screen. The fire villain sits up from the couch and intently watches the fight on screen. Helios rises from his seat in anger, that should be him on screen destroying the hero. He points at the television to Spot and motions to him that he should be fighting Captain Awesome. Spot lets out a bubble.

3. A lightbulb goes off in Helios’ head. He grabs Spot and leaves the apartment. EXT. DOWNTOWN - 2 PM Helios carefully, yet strategically sets Spot on a trashcan in an alley, so the goldfish can watch him in action. Spot lets out a bubble. Eira and Captain Greatness’ fight flies by the opening in the alley. Helios stretches out his fingers and huffs to get himself pumped. He runs out into battle. Helios blasts Eira with fire to get her out of his way. Eira thrown against a brick wall. The fire villain creates a ring of fire around Captain Greatness and laughs. Captain Greatness jumps over the fire and starts to run away. Helios runs after him, creating fire obstacles in the hero’s way. Helios makes a large fire wall and Captain Greatness stops in his tracks as the fire blazes in front of him. The fire villain grabs Captain Greatness’ cape and blasts a large flame at him. He drags him over towards the alley where Spot is, but the fish is missing. Helios’ eyes go wide and turns to see Eira holding Spot in her hand. Eira smirks at Helios and points at Spot, then at Captain Greatness. Helios frowns and gives the hero’s cape over to the ice villain. Eira laughs and freezes Spot. She throws the fishbowl up in the air and takes off with Captain Greatness. Helios runs to the fish bowl and catches it in his arms. Distressed, the fire villain takes the fish back to his apartment.

4. INT. HELIOS' APARTMENT - 3 PM Helios rushes into his apartment and collapses onto the ground, the fishbowl tight against his chest. He tries to hold himself together, but a few tears roll down his cheeks. The heat from his chest melts the ice in the fishbowl and Spot is alive! The fish lets out a bubble. Helios wipes his eyes and sees Spot alive and well inside the bowl. He raises the bowl above his head before bringing it up against his cheek. 5 PM The doorbell rings and Helios answers the door, Spot under his arm. His neighbor and her son are there. The son is excited to see Spot and Helios returns the fish to the boy. The son looks up at Helios, gives Spot to his mother, and gives the villain a big hug. Helios is surprised at first, but then gives the boy a warm smile. He gets on his knees to hug the boy back. FADE OUT. THE END Suggested illustrations for the credits: Helios at an aquarium with his neighbor and her son. Helios getting an aquarium in his house and it being filled with goldfish.
