I remember my Nan using these, so they seem old fashioned but in fact and right back in fashion and they are so effective. You just pop in a soap, shake it in the water, and it seems to clean better than dish liquid that comes in plastic bottles.

As an editor, I often have beauty products land on my desk, but when the Supernatural Vitale Face Elixir from Emma Lewisham arrived, I was particularly intrigued. Known for delivering high-performance skincare with natural ingredients, this elixir promised a revolutionary alternative to anti-wrinkle injections—something I had to see for myself. I believe my 53 year old skin is in reasonable good condition so I was interested to see if it would make a difference or not
I integrated the elixir into my morning and evening routine, applying it consistently for two weeks. Right from the start, my skin felt deeply hydrated and quickly I noticed the firming effect. After just 24 hours, my complexion had a more lifted glowing appearance, and by the end of the second week, my skin felt noticeably stronger, smoother, and more resilient.
What I love most is how it works on multiple fronts: reducing the frequency of muscle contractions that contribute to fine lines, delivering an instant filling effect, and supporting the skin’s structure for a firm, youthful look. It gave me all the benefits of an injection-free solution—without the needles.
This elixir certainly lives up to its “supernatural” name, providing powerful results with a beautifully natural approach. For anyone looking to boost their skin’s firmness and smoothness while staying true to clean, sustainable beauty, Emma Lewisham’s Supernatural Vitale Face Elixir is a must-try.

Our cover shoot for EYE magazine took place at the stunning 269 Parnell—the highly anticipated Mediterranean market-style venue that’s generating huge buzz. The location was perfect, as was the shoot itself. Against the vibrant yellow, European-inspired walls, South American interior designer Luciana Borges brought our vision to life in a striking red Latin dress. Luciana, who transitioned into modelling with grace and passion, was the ideal muse for this setting.
Abi Tobia from Solitaire de Parnell adorned Luciana with exquisite earrings and a necklace, while the creative director Ali Ward and 269 mover and shaker ensured every detail was flawless. The glam team included makeup artist Angela Crumpe, hair by ASC Salon Parnell, and stylist Angela Stone, alongside EYE’s editor Vanessa Bennett—all of us dreaming of a Europeaninspired masterpiece as we worked.
Beyond the beautiful visuals, we highlight four of the passionate vendors who make 269 Parnell a must-visit for food lovers. Each brings a piece of their homeland to the heart of Auckland with flavours crafted from tradition and authenticity.
Alfredo from Taco Amaiz: A true Mexican and talented chef, Alfredo brings the flavours of Northern Mexico to life with handmade tortillas and slow-cooked meats, capturing the soul of authentic Mexican cuisine.
Aula from Aula’s Kitchen: With a passion for Mediterranean cuisine, Aula serves up house-made hummus, fresh pita, and other dishes that feel like they’ve come straight from a family kitchen.
Reginaldo from Tambo Eatery: Inspired by the fusion of Brazil and Aotearoa, Reginaldo offers a creative twist on South American flavours, blending bold, hearty elements with New Zealand influences.
I WANT PEOPLE TO HAVE SOMEWHERE TO GO TO SHARE ALL KINDS OF TAPAS, HAVE A DRINK AND LISTEN TO MUSIC - PEOPLE FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD, ALL DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS SITTING TOGETHER AND ENJOYING THEMSELVES.
KEVIN HARVEY, CREATOR
Armando from Mayu Eatery: Specialising in contemporary Peruvian cuisine, Armando’s creations are an experience in every bite. His mocktail, a blend of fermented orange, black pepper, and chili, brings a fresh, Peruvian twist to classic flavours.
As the vendors plated their dishes for the photoshoot, even Kevin Harvey and the builders—still putting the final touches on 269 Parnell—couldn’t resist sampling the culinary delights being whipped up around them. There’s so much love, passion, and community at 269 Parnell, and we can’t wait to support them (and drink the amazing Italian coffee) as they continue to share their flavours and culture with Auckland.
269 is all about the glorious things that happen when good food and good people come together.

AN EXCLUSIVE Q&A WITH JEANNE BERTENSHAW, CO-FOUNDER AND OWNER OF MATISSE
Jeanne, congratulations on the new flagship showroom for Matisse. How does it feel to unveil this new space?
Thank you! It feels incredibly rewarding. Our new showroom at 130 St Georges Bay Road in Parnell represents a significant milestone for Matisse. It’s not just a new location but a space that embodies the evolution of our brand and our commitment to bringing the best in luxury design to Auckland.
Matisse has been a leader in luxury brands for over 38 years. Can you tell us about the journey that led you here?
It’s been an exciting journey, filled with passion and dedication. We started Matisse with a vision to bring the world’s finest furniture and design to New Zealand. Over the years, we’ve built strong relationships with renowned brands like B&B Italia, arclinea, Cassina and Moroso to name a few.
These partnerships have been instrumental in shaping our brand and our ability to offer exclusive, high-quality pieces.
The new showroom is described as an exquisite home to a curated collection of distinguished design brands. What can visitors expect to see?
Visitors can expect to see a beautiful collection of furniture, kitchens, bathrooms, lighting and accessories from some of the world’s most distinguished design brands. Our showroom is designed to inspire, with each piece selected for its unique design, craftsmanship, and timeless appeal. It’s a space where luxury meets comfort, and where our clients can truly experience the essence of high-end design.
What inspired the move to St Georges Bay Road in Parnell?
Parnell has always been a hub for creativity and design in Auckland. St Georges Bay Road, in particular, is emerging as the city’s design district. We wanted to be at the heart of this vibrant community, where we could connect with other design enthusiasts and showcase our collections in a space that reflects our brand’s ethos. The new location offers more space and a better environment to present our pieces and host events.
How do you manage to stay ahead in the competitive luxury furniture market?
Staying ahead in this market requires a deep understanding of design trends, a strong network of international partners, and a commitment to quality and service. We constantly travel to international design fairs, stay connected with our designer partners, and listen to our clients’ needs. Innovation and excellence are at the core of everything we do, and we strive to offer an unparalleled experience for our customers.
Matisse has nurtured relationships with some of the biggest names in design. How important are these partnerships to your business?
These partnerships are crucial. Working with designers like Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola, and Mario Bellini allows us to bring exclusive and innovative pieces to our clients. These collaborations ensure that we remain at the forefront of design and offer products that are not only beautiful but also functional and of the highest quality. It’s these relationships that set us apart in the luxury furniture market.
You are known for managing with style and grace. What is your leadership philosophy?
My leadership philosophy is centered around passion, integrity, and fostering a collaborative environment. I believe in leading by example and inspiring my team to share in the vision and values of Matisse. It’s important to create an environment where creativity can thrive and where everyone feels valued and motivated to contribute their best.
What advice would you give to women aspiring to lead in the luxury brand sector?
Believe in yourself and your vision. The luxury brand sector is challenging, but with passion, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence, you can succeed. Build strong relationships, stay informed about industry trends, and never compromise on quality or integrity. And most importantly, surround yourself with a great team and foster a culture of creativity and collaboration.
What’s next for Matisse?
We’re excited about the future. We’ll continue to bring the best in luxury design to our clients and explore new partnerships and opportunities. Our new showroom is just the beginning of a new chapter for Matisse. We’re looking forward to hosting more events, expanding our collections, and further enhancing the customer experience.
Jeanne, thank you for sharing your insights with us and being one of our Women to Watch over the years and to date. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for you and Matisse.
Thank you! It’s been a pleasure speaking with you. We’re thrilled to continue this journey and bring more exceptional designs to our clients.

You’ve had such a varied career in sports, television, and now real estate. How have these experiences shaped your journey?
Each phase of my career has taught me valuable lessons. My time in athletics taught me discipline, focus, and resilience—qualities that have carried through into my real estate work. Television gave me confidence in connecting with people and thinking on my feet, which is crucial in real estate when you’re constantly negotiating and communicating with clients. The ability to adapt quickly and stay composed under pressure has been invaluable in both industries.
What drew you to real estate after such a successful career in TV?
I’ve always been passionate about homes and interior design, and real estate felt like a natural progression. What really excites me is helping people find their dream home or successfully sell their property. There’s something deeply fulfilling about being part of such a significant moment in someone’s life. My competitive spirit from sports and TV comes into play here too—I love achieving great results for my clients.
Real estate is known for being a highly competitive industry. How do you stay ahead?
It’s all about relationships. Building trust with clients is essential, and I work hard to ensure that every person I deal with feels heard and valued. I also believe in continuous learning. The market is always evolving, and staying informed and adaptable is key.
As someone who has achieved success across multiple fields, what advice would you give to young women looking to break into real estate?
My first piece of advice is to trust yourself—don’t wait for permission to step into a space. Real estate can feel intimidating at first, especially when you’re just starting, but confidence grows with experience. Be patient with yourself and take the time to build strong relationships—networking is key. Surround yourself with people you can learn from, and never underestimate the power of mentorship.
I’d also encourage young women to stay authentic. Clients appreciate honesty and integrity more than anything else. Be genuine in your interactions, and that trust will translate into long-term success. Lastly, be prepared for the grind. Real estate isn’t a 9 to 5 job; it requires dedication, but the rewards are worth it. Always strive for excellence, and don’t be afraid to ask questions—there’s no shame in learning.
You’ve worked as an MC and TV presenter for years. How do you balance these roles with real estate?
It’s a juggling act, but I thrive on variety. Whether I’m in front of a camera or helping a client, it’s all about communication and connection. Both roles feed into each other. My MC and television work sharpen my people skills, and real estate keeps me grounded and challenged. Organisation is key to managing it all, but I love the energy that comes with wearing different hats.
What motivates you in your real estate career today?
I’m motivated by the people I work with and the sense of achievement that comes from delivering great results for them. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a client thrilled with the outcome, whether it’s buying their dream home or selling a property above expectations. My goal is always to make the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible. And as a competitive person, I’m driven by the challenge of constantly raising the bar.
WITH OVER 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY, PENNY THORNE IS A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH. AS NATIONAL SALES MANAGER OF KGM (FORMERLY SSANGYONG), A DIVISION OF INCHCAPE AUTOMOTIVE DISTRIBUTION (NZ) LIMITED, PENNY IS DRIVING THE FUTURE OF THE BRAND WITHIN A GLOBAL COMPANY KNOWN FOR ITS COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY. WE CAUGHT UP WITH HER TO TALK ABOUT HER LEADERSHIP JOURNEY, HER HEALTH CHALLENGES, AND HER UPCOMING ROLE AS A SPEAKER AT WOMEN TO WATCH 2025.
How did you get started in the automotive industry?
My journey began more than two decades ago when I saw the potential in the automotive sector. I’ve always been passionate about sales, strategy, and leadership, and this industry allowed me to explore all three. I’ve also had the privilege of owning businesses in luxury travel and working in the luxury boating market, which gave me a unique perspective that I now apply in my current role.
Inchcape is known for its commitment to women in leadership. How has that influenced your career?
Inchcape is truly progressive in promoting women to leadership roles. In Australasia, half of the senior leadership team are women, which is incredibly empowering. Inchcape recently joined Women in Automotive NZ and pledged to uphold its principles, reinforcing its commitment to diversity. Being part of such a forward-thinking company makes a huge difference in my work and personal growth.
How do you balance family and work?
Family is incredibly important to me, and spending time with them helps keep me grounded. I always make sure to prioritise quality time with them, even with a busy work schedule. It’s all about balance— being present and engaged at work but also carving out time to make memories with my loved ones. They’re my support system, and their encouragement keeps me focused and driven.
You’ve recently overcome a major health challenge. Can you tell us about that?
Yes, I recently had a heart attack, which was a wake-up call. It can happen to anyone, even if you’re fit and think you’re healthy. I’m grateful to be recovering, and I’ll be speaking at Women to Watch 2025 in support of NZ Heart, sharing my experience and highlighting the importance of heart health awareness. It’s something that shouldn’t be overlooked, especially by women who often put their health last while managing careers and families.
What’s your advice for women aiming to succeed in male-dominated industries?
Believe that anything is possible. Surround yourself with strong, supportive women who inspire you and push you to grow. A good support system is key. Also, don’t shy away from challenges— embrace them, and use them to grow both personally and professionally.
What’s next for you and KGM?
We’re on an exciting path as Inchcape continues to expand its portfolio across Australasia. We have so many exciting new things happening. At KGM, we’re focused on growth and innovation, and I’m proud to be part of this journey. The future is bright, and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead.

Luciana, your design philosophy is deeply rooted in both European and contemporary influences. What role has your upbringing played in shaping your approach to design?
Growing up in Brazil, I was constantly surrounded by a rich mix of traditional European architecture and modern design. My mother, an interior architect, and my father, an engineer, were both huge influences on me. They fostered my love for creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also highly functional. Those early experiences shaped the foundation of my approach today—blending the timeless with the modern.
You’ve mentioned that you design with sustainability in mind. How does that manifest in your projects?
Sustainability is at the heart of every project we undertake. It’s about more than just using ecofriendly materials; it’s about creating spaces that stand the test of time, both in terms of design and functionality. We use durable, quality materials and timeless designs that our clients will love for years to come. It’s important to us that the homes we create reflect a thoughtful, value-based approach to interior architecture.
You’ve built Borges Design into a boutique firm known for creating luxurious spaces. What do you think sets your work apart?
We take the time to truly understand our clients’ needs and desires. We push them a little beyond their comfort zones to create something unique that reflects their personality. Additionally, our strong relationships with suppliers and contractors ensure a smooth process from start to finish. Our goal is always to deliver a home that is both luxurious and functional, creating a space that elevates everyday living.
Who or what continues to inspire you in your work today?
My mother’s influence is something I carry with me daily. But I’m also inspired by modernist architects like Oscar Niemeyer and Frank Lloyd Wright. Their ability to marry functionality with breathtaking design is something I strive to emulate in my own work. Each new project brings its own inspiration—I love working with clients to turn their dreams into reality.
As our cover model for this issue, what can readers expect from Borges Design in the future?
We’re constantly evolving, and I’m excited about what’s to come. We’re exploring new materials and concepts that further our commitment to creating timeless, luxurious spaces. No matter what, our focus remains on delivering exceptional homes where our clients can live, relax, and create memories.
And finally what advice would you offer to young designers starting their journey?
My biggest piece of advice is to always stay curious and never stop learning. The design world is constantly evolving, and it’s important to keep up with new techniques, materials, and trends while staying true to your own style. Real-world experience is invaluable, so work with experienced professionals and learn the practical aspects of design, from product sourcing to managing contractors. Don’t be afraid to push boundaries but remember that great design is not just about aesthetics—it’s about creating spaces that function beautifully in everyday life. Stay patient, be persistent, and let your passion guide you.

Whilst we live in an evolving world, there are some things that stand the test of time. This is true for sound investing principles and strategies. Regardless of market conditions, these approaches have served investors for generations.
This is one of the easiest things you can do, but the benefits can be significant. No one knows for sure what will happen in the future and how markets will react to changes or announcements, so having a diversified portfolio, made up of different assets including shares from different sectors and geographic markets, lowers your overall risk and improves the likelihood you’ll be a successful investor. Plus, you’ll be able to sleep soundly at night knowing negative performance in one area of your portfolio can be balanced by positive performance in your other portfolio investments.
Investing in quality companies has always been a core belief at Craigs Investment Partners. By quality we mean companies that have unique products, valuable intellectual property and sustainable competitive advantages, and a history of producing returns for shareholders. These are the types of companies that we expect will still exist in 50 years’ time. The same principle of focusing on quality and longevity also applies when investing in other asset classes.
Avoid fixating on short-term market fluctuations. Instead, focus on the long-term prospects of your investments. Despite short-term volatility, maintaining a long-term perspective can lead to higher returns. The thing with financial markets is that the further ahead in the future you look, the more predictable things often become. That’s the opposite of just about everything else in life. Markets are very hard to predict over days, weeks, months or even years. But the likely returns become much easier to see as we look further ahead. The hard bit as an investor is keeping your cool and remembering that core investment philosophy.
There really is no benefit to waiting when it comes to investing. That’s why we encourage investors to start as early as you can. The more you delay, the more you could miss out on the benefits of investing. If your goal is to build up wealth gradually, time in the market maximises the effects of compounding returns and can really magnify your gains over time.

Through their productions, workshops, and collaborations, they aim to build a thriving circus arts community in New Zealand. Dust Palace continually pushes the artistic and creative limits of circus, seamlessly blending it with theatre to create shows that are not just visually captivating but also emotionally compelling.
TE TANGI A TE TŪĪ IS AS BEAUTIFUL AS IT IS INSIGHTFUL, TIMELY, AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING, IN ALL ITS COMPLEXITY
VINCE KANASOOT, STIR VANCOUVER
Their performances have been praised for their daring stunts, breathtaking choreography, and deep storytelling. Each production showcases the depth of talent within the company, with highly skilled performers executing physically demanding routines while also exploring complex themes and narratives.
One of their notable productions is The Goblin Market, inspired by Christina Rossetti’s narrative poem. It debuted after years of research and development, captivating audiences with its exploration of temptation, seduction, and redemption, all told through awe-inspiring acrobatics and evocative imagery. This production showcased Dust Palace’s ability to tell a story with very few words, relying on the sheer power of movement and circus artistry to convey complex emotions and themes. It gained international recognition and has awarded the company a deep relationship with the Canadian market.
Dust Palace has also collaborated with esteemed institutions like the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, resulting in highly successful performances such as Midnight and Dawn, both of which were presented to a sold-out crowd at the Kiri te Kanawa Theatre. These collaborations showcased the company’s ability to merge circus with other art forms, creating shows that were not just visually stunning but also musically enriching.

‘WHEN WE SAY WE WANT MORE DECOLONIAL THEATRE, TE TANGI A TE TŪĪ IS EXACTLY WHAT WE MEAN.’
MARISA DIAMOND, THEATREVIEW
In addition to their large-scale productions, Dust Palace has a deep commitment to community engagement and education. They have created workshops and training programs for aspiring circus performers, ensuring that the next generation of artists is nurtured and supported. Their passion for fostering circus arts has led to the creation of Te Kura Maninirau, the first kaupapa Māori circus school, launched in 2023 in partnership with Te Pou Theatre. This groundbreaking initiative is aimed at making circus culturally accessible and empowering Māori artists through the medium of circus theatre.
Another standout production, Ithaca, is a cirque-musical adaptation of Homer’s epic The Odyssey, re-imagined as a space opera. This production featured elaborate sets and innovative storytelling, where the performers utilized their acrobatic skills to create a visually and emotionally charged narrative. Ithaca was re-developed in 2020 into a stadium-scale production, marking one of Dust Palace’s largest and most successful story-circus combinations to date.
Dust Palace’s commitment to telling Aotearoa’s stories through circus theatre has also been seen in recent works such as Te Tangi a te Tūī, a reo Māori circus theatre collaboration that explores themes of love, loss, and reclamation in the face of colonization. Premiering in Vancouver in 2023, this powerful and visually stunning production brought together 14 artists in a profound exploration of cultural identity and resilience.
Through their relentless pursuit of innovation, Dust Palace continues to push the boundaries of what circus and theatre can achieve together. Their work has earned them a reputation not just for their artistic excellence, but also for their commitment to fostering the next generation of circus artists and their dedication to sharing Aotearoa’s unique stories with the world.
Dust Palace also works regularly in corporate, community and education contexts, delivering workshops and performances at corporate and community events.
As they continue to evolve and grow, Dust Palace remains at the forefront of circus theatre in New Zealand, inspiring audiences both at home and internationally with their bold, imaginative, and heart-stopping productions.

A Conversation with Kyria Mailman, Founder of 11:11 Wellness and Advocate for Holistic Health
What inspired you to create 11:11 Wellness?
The creation of 11:11 Wellness was born from a deeply personal awakening during the global lockdowns. In the stillness of that time, I realised my life, once centered on luxury tourism, no longer aligned with my true purpose. The realisation that genuine happiness couldn’t be achieved without a major shift in my life was undeniable. I went through a profound period of healing and transformation— physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally—and I emerged with a desire to help others experience the same. It all starts within. We collectively hold all the answers and together we can unlock the key to true happiness, my goal is to help everyone share their knowledge and all the pieces of the puzzle will come together.
11:11 Wellness became my way of offering people a space where they could embark on their own healing journeys, restoring balance and vitality to their lives through a holistic approach that embraces wellness on all levels—body, mind, and spirit.
Can you explain the mission behind 11:11 Wellness?
At 11:11 Wellness, our mission is to offer transformative wellness experiences that empower individuals to heal and thrive. We embrace a holistic philosophy, nurturing not only the physical body but also the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our lives. By focusing on the pillars of love, joy,
peace, and truth, we help individuals reconnect with their true selves, cultivate inner harmony, and witness that inner peace reflect outwardly in their lives. From Bioptron light therapy to healing ceremonies and wellness retreats, every offering at 11:11 Wellness is designed to foster healing, growth, and lasting transformation. We are building a community that values conscious living, authentic connection, and true wellness.
What kind of events and retreats can people expect from 11:11 Wellness in 2025?
In 2025, we are excited to offer a range of wellness retreats and events tailored to reset and rejuvenate every aspect of your being. Our offerings will include integrative therapies, healing ceremonies, and workshops focused on natural medicines, including plant-based healing and ancestral practices. These events are crafted to help participants reprogram their minds and bodies, enabling self-healing and deeper personal growth. Whether it’s through immersive retreats in serene locations or intimate healing circles, we want each experience to be transformative, helping people reconnect with themselves and the world around them.
You emphasise natural medicines and ancestral knowledge. Why is this important to you?
I firmly believe that our ancestors held profound wisdom about the earth’s natural healing powers—knowledge that has been passed down through generations. By honoring and integrating these ancient practices, we can heal ourselves in ways that go beyond treating symptoms, addressing the root causes of imbalance within our bodies and minds. Natural medicines, such as plant-based therapies, offer us the opportunity to heal in harmony with the earth. This connection to nature, combined with ancestral knowledge, allows us to unlock deeper levels of healing and personal growth. At 11:11 Wellness, we are passionate about reviving this wisdom, ensuring it plays a central role in the healing journey of each person who joins us.
Can you introduce us to some of your key team members?
Absolutely! Meet Anita, she is an integrative Rongoā practitioner with a deep passion for Māori healing modalities, integrative psychology, social permaculture and plant medicine. She’s been working closely with vibrational plant medicine from Aotearoa, New Zealand for over a decade.
Anita is linked tribally in Aotearoa with Ngāti Ruapani, Tuhoe & Ngāti Kahungungu. Anita incorporates ancestral knowledge and holistic models
such as Dr Rangimarie Turuki Rose Pere’s ‘Te Wheke’ holistic health model through to the Gene Keys and Human Design into her work. Her expertise is in combining rongoā with nutraceuticals and she is invaluable to our team.
Anita also loves hosting wellness retreats. Check out our website for retreat and event updates.
What sets 11:11 Wellness apart from conventional health approaches?
At 11:11 Wellness, we take a holistic approach to healing that moves beyond conventional medicine. We believe in empowering individuals to reprogram their minds, bodies, and souls, allowing them to break free from old patterns and embrace self-healing. Unlike mainstream medicine, which often relies heavily on pharmaceuticals, we prioritize natural, earth-based medicines and ancient healing practices. We say ‘No’ to Big Pharma and ‘Yes’ to Big Mumma— the nurturing, natural medicines that our ancestors have long embraced. This approach leads to deep and lasting transformation, offering individuals the tools to truly thrive.
How do you see 11:11 Wellness evolving in the future?
We are constantly evolving, expanding our range of wellness offerings to meet the growing needs of our community. In the future, we’ll be introducing more wellness products, retreats, and events that blend ancient wisdom with modern healing modalities. We’re committed to integrating even more ancestral knowledge and natural medicine into our programs, offering holistic solutions for those seeking true, transformative wellness. Our goal is to continue building a global community of individuals who value authenticity, healing, and connection—and who are committed to living in alignment with the highest versions of themselves. At the heart of 11:11 Wellness is a simple yet powerful belief: Health is wealth!
You can have all the success and material wealth in the world, but without true health—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual—what’s it all for?
We must invest in our health today so we can live fully and joyfully tomorrow.
Here’s to making changes in 2025.
Your journey toward wellness starts now.

Saint Beauty, your go-to skin and beauty salon in the heart of Saint Heliers Bay Village, Auckland are excited to announce the launch of their new revolutionary BBL and MOXI treatments.
Saint Beauty now offer two fantastic options: BBL (BroadBand Light) and MOXI (Fractional Laser), or you can combine both for even better results. These award-winning treatments are designed to enhance your skin’s tone, texture, and overall glow.
BBL is an intense pulsed light therapy that targets common skin issues like sun damage, age spots, redness, fine lines, and even acne scars. It works by delivering light energy to your skin, helping to boost collagen and promote that youthful look.
‘It’s amazing what BBL can do! You can see healthier, clearer skin after just one session. Plus, it’s quick and has minimal downtime, which our clients will love. We’re so excited to offer these awardwinning treatments after recently celebrating our first year in business!’ says Bex Hunt, co-owner, Saint Beauty.
MOXI is a fractional laser treatment that tackles early signs of aging and improves skin quality. It’s perfect for addressing sun damage, uneven skin tone, and those pesky fine lines and large pores. MOXI creates tiny micro-injuries in the skin to kickstart your body’s natural healing process, with shorter recovery times than more aggressive treatments.
‘People call it the ‘MOXI magic wand’ for a reason! You can see noticeable improvements after just one treatment. It’s a fantastic addition for anyone wanting to keep their skin looking fresh and youthful,’ says Emma Hughes, coowner, Saint Beauty.
MOXI’s non-ablative laser energy works wonders for all skin types and ages. In under 30 minutes, it’s the perfect lunchtime treatment with minimal downtime—ideal for busy lifestyles any time of year.
‘Both BBL and MOXI can be combined for even more impressive results. At Saint Beauty, we are thrilled that we will be specialising in this powerful duo!’ Emma adds.
With their state-of-the-art treatments, top-tier beauty products, personalised care, and a relaxing atmosphere, Saint Beauty is the ultimate destination for beauty and wellness in the Eastern Suburbs.

Step inside Oscar&Co, and you’ll immediately sense something special in the air. Located at the forefront of cutting-edge hairdressing, this highend salon isn’t just about beautiful hair. Under the inspired leadership of Jen Andrews, Oscar&Co is redefining what a hair salon can be: A place of artistry, innovation, and purpose that equally values the craft of styling, environmental care, and the future of hairdressing as an art form.
Jen and her team understand that beauty goes beyond the surface. Oscar&Co proudly partners with Redken, a brand synonymous with both luxury and hair health. Together, they offer guests the best in hair colour, salon treatments and home hair care to ensure their hair not only looks stunning but also remains in optimal health.
Oscar&Co believes that true beauty is also sustainable, which is why the salon is an enthusiastic partner of Sustainable Salons. Through this initiative, they make sure that hair clippings, foils, colour tubes, paper, plastice and tools are recycled or repurposed rather than going to landfills. At Oscar&Co, guests can feel good knowing that their pampering experience is contributing to a greener planet.
The future of hairdressing is a vital concern at Oscar&Co, and Jen is leading the charge to secure it. With apprenticeship numbers dwindling across the industry, Oscar&Co stands out by embracing a proactive strategy. Each year, the salon recruits two junior apprentices to go through a highly sought after and extensive training program. This rigorous, hands-on learning journey covers everything from foundational techniques to advanced skills, providing apprentices with a solid foundation for their careers.
Oscar&Co’s success can largely be attributed to the exceptional talent that makes up its team. The salon boasts some of the most talented senior stylists and apprentices in the industry, each one dedicated to delivering impeccable results and
unforgettable guest experiences. Beyond the salon walls, the team regularly engages in salon events such as photoshoots, community-based initiatives and world renown fashion shows where they can showcase their skills, contribute to the community and take their talents to the world.
Oscar&Co also takes on the role of trendsetter, offering an annual trend report that forecasts the season’s hair colours, cuts, and styling directions. With an eye on both global and local fashion currents, the salon’s trend report is eagerly awaited by guests seeking inspiration as well as industry insiders looking for insight.
Under Jen’s vision, Oscar&Co is a paragon of what modern hairdressing can aspire to be. Here, hair is an art form, sustainability is paramount, and the future of the craft is being actively nurtured. For guests, Oscar&Co is more than just a place for beautiful hair, it’s a community where each visit feels like stepping into a future where style, responsibility, and care seamlessly align.

Raised watching her mother’s impeccable work in the field of cosmetic medicine, it was only natural that Leigh Cattin would join Dr. Teresa Cattin’s highly regarded FaceWorks clinic in Mairangi Bay, quickly accruing an impressive client list of her own.
Highly trained in the use of neuromodulators and cosmetic fillers and a leader in her field, Teresa has over 25 years’ experience in cosmetic medicine and is famed for her less-is-more approach to graceful ageing. A past President of the New Zealand College of Appearance Medicine who is regularly invited to speak at international conferences, she pioneered the use of the ‘French Touch’ approach to injectables in New Zealand, effectively using carefully placed, very small amounts of cosmetic injectables to rejuvenate and enhance the face subtly and discreetly.
Leigh, a newly graduated doctor who recently travelled with Teresa to an aesthetics conference in Monaco, is planning to follow in her mother’s footsteps with a career in family medicine and appearance medicine, and the pair thrive on the working environment that a mother-daughter relationship brings. Working from Teresa’s clinic on Auckland’s Apollo Drive, Leigh, who has a particular interest in neuromodulators and lip enhancements for younger patients, has bought an impressive new dynamic to the space and a raft of new clients who appreciate the considerable difference that taking a subtle but considered approach to injectables makes.
‘With younger patients, it’s not about softening age-related changes on the face, but rather about carefully enhancing each client’s natural beauty,’ says Leigh. ‘Sometimes a lip may be just slightly too thin or asymmetrical, and a very small amount of product can make all the difference in a way that is not at all obvious or ‘done’ looking.’
Both women are passionate about the gentle but effective French approach to appearance medicine, with Teresa saying: ‘There is increasing evidence that tiny amounts of neuromodulators given regularly and started at the right time can actually prevent very deep lines from forming. Deep lines aren’t necessarily a result of age at all. They can be a family trait, which can start at a much younger age. Neuromodulators control the development of these family traits beautifully, for natural results that never look frozen.’
Incredibly serene but with just the right amount of comfort thrown in for good measure, the FaceWorks clinic is a true reflection of the professionalism and warmth you experience when you meet Teresa and Leigh, making it a true ‘beauty destination’ worth visiting.

Melinda, congratulations on your retirement from La Prairie. How does it feel to be closing this chapter after more than 40 years of representing luxury brands?
Thank you so much. It’s a bittersweet moment for me. I’ve had an incredible journey working with some of the most prestigious luxury brands, including La Prairie. It’s been an honour and a privilege, but I’m also excited about the new opportunities that lie ahead.
You’ve been an exceptional ambassador for luxury brands. What has been the most rewarding part of your career?
The most rewarding part has been the relationships I’ve built over the years. Whether with colleagues, clients, or partners, these connections have been invaluable. Also, seeing the positive impact that luxury products can have on people’s confidence and self-esteem has been deeply fulfilling.
You’ve maintained elegance and grace throughout your career. What’s your secret to staying so poised and polished?
It’s all about self-care and staying true to yourself. I’ve always believed in the importance of taking care of both the body and the mind. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and a positive outlook on life have helped me maintain my well-being. And, of course, a good skincare routine never hurts!
You’re now transitioning to charity work with animals. What inspired this change, and what kind of work will you be doing?
I’ve always had a deep love for animals, and I feel it’s time to give back in a different way. I’ll be working with various animal shelters and organisations to help rescue and rehabilitate animals in need. It’s a cause that’s very close to my heart, and I’m looking forward to making a difference in their lives.
Can you tell us more about your passion for animal welfare?
Animals have always been a source of joy and comfort for me. They give so much love unconditionally, and I believe they deserve the same in return. My passion for animal welfare stems from wanting to ensure that all animals are treated with the kindness and respect they deserve.
What do you hope to achieve with your charity work?
I hope to raise awareness about animal welfare issues and inspire others to take action. Whether it’s through adopting a pet, volunteering, or supporting animal shelters, there are many ways people can help. My goal is to contribute to creating a world where animals are valued and cared for.
IT’S BEEN AN HONOUR AND A PRIVILEDGE, BUT I’M ALSO EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW OPPORTUNITIES THAT LIE AHEAD.
Looking back, what advice would you give to someone starting a career in the luxury brand industry?
Be passionate about what you do and stay authentic. The luxury brand industry is all about creating experiences and connections. It’s important to understand the brand you’re representing and to communicate its values with integrity. Building genuine relationships and always striving for excellence will set you apart.
What will you miss the most about working in the luxury brand sector?
I’ll miss the daily interactions with my wonderful colleagues and clients. The excitement of launching new products and the creative process behind it all is something I’ll always cherish. However, I’m taking with me many beautiful memories and friendships that I know will last a lifetime.
As a final thank you, is there anything you’d like to say to those you’ve worked with over the years?
I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Your support, collaboration, and friendship have meant the world to me. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every moment. I look forward to staying in touch and seeing all the wonderful things the future holds for each of you.
Finally, how can people support your new endeavours in animal welfare?
There are many ways to support animal welfare. Volunteering at local shelters, donating to animal charities, or even just spreading awareness can make a big difference. For those interested in following my journey and getting involved, I’ll be sharing updates and information through my social media channels and email network. Every little bit helps, and together, we can make a significant impact.
Thank you, Melinda, for your time and for all the incredible work you’ve done over the years. Best of luck in your new chapter. Thank you so much. It’s been an honour, and I’m excited for what’s to come. Here’s to new beginnings and making a difference!

1. CONSIDER YOUR DESIRED LOOK
Choosing the perfect mascara can be a personal preference, and over the years your choice or taste may change.
Decide on the effect you want to achieve with your mascara. Do you want lengthening, volumizing, curling, or a combination of these? This will help narrow down your options.
2. DETERMINE YOUR LASH TYPE
Assess your natural lashes to understand their length, thickness, and curl. Different mascaras work better for different lash types, so choose one that complements yours.
3. FORMULA
Consider the formula of the mascara. Some mascaras are waterproof, while others are not. Waterproof mascaras are great for long-lasting wear or if you have a tendency to rub your eyes. Non-waterproof mascaras are easier to remove. Additionally, consider whether you prefer a more natural or dramatic look.
4. BRUSH SHAPE
Pay attention to the shape and bristles of the mascara wand. Different brush shapes provide different effects. For example, a curved brush can help curl and lift your lashes, while a straight brush can give more separation and length.
5. REVIEWS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Read reviews and seek recommendations from friends or beauty experts. They can provide insights into the performance and quality of different mascaras.
6. BRAND REPUTATION
Consider the reputation of the brand. Established and reputable brands often have a track record of producing high-quality mascaras.
7. ALLERGIES AND SENSITIVITIES
If you have sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses, look for mascaras that are suitable for sensitive eyes and are ophthalmologist-tested.
8. BUDGET
Determine your budget and look for mascaras within that range. There are plenty of options available at different price points, so you can find a great mascara that fits your budget.
9. EXPERIMENT AND SAMPLE
If possible, try out sample sizes or tester mascaras before committing to a full-sized product. This allows you to see how the mascara performs on your lashes and helps you make a more informed decision.
Remember, everyone’s preferences and needs are different, so what works for someone else may not work for you. It may take some trial and error to find your perfect mascara, but don’t be afraid to experiment and have fun with it!

Eye magazine talks to Jake Dromgool, Director & Vigneron of 144 Islands Wines - Can you tell us about your journey into viticulture and how 144 Islands Wines began?
My family have been farming in Northland for a few generations now, and I grew up on a dairy and beef farm, just outside of Kerikeri. In high school, I was offered a work placement through a gateway program, where I could essentially get a day off school each week to work, and earn school credits by doing so. Marsden Estate in Kerikeri took me on, and from there I guess the interest was born. Following high school, I studied for a Commerce degree and did a little bit of travel and pursued a few other career paths, until in 2014, at the age of 22, I decided to pursue my passion for viticulture and moved back home to take on a role at The Landing. Coincidentally, around the same time, my family purchased a block of land neighbouring our farm. During an exploration of the bush on this new property, my father and I stumbled upon an abandoned garden with grapevines that hadn’t been pruned in nearly 70 years. These wild vines were thriving, reaching the tops of the Totara trees and bearing delicious fruit. That discovery sparked a conversation with my father about planting a vineyard on this block. We quickly put plans into motion and planted just under 1 hectare of vines, experimenting with various varieties to see which ones would best suit our site.
How has your passion for wine evolved since starting 144 Islands Wines?
As the vineyard grew and evolved, so too did my passion for wine. It became more than just a career; it was a calling. I immersed myself in learning everything I could, and was able to hone my skills working in the vineyard for The Landing. Over the years, I’ve developed a deeper understanding of what works best to capture the essence of our unique Home Block. The passion is still there, but the focus now is perhaps more refined than it was when I started.
You’ve mentioned your family plays a significant role in the vineyard. Can you share more about that?
Absolutely. Family is at the heart of everything we do. I run the business in partnership with my parents and through the tricky Covid years we were able to leverage our broader farming business to stay afloat. I have three young children—Remy, Marnie, and Coco – and each of them have a wine I produce every year named for them. I’m really grateful to be able to raise them on a vineyard, and its great that my workplace is 8 metres from my front door. My sisters both live on the farm with their own children also, so there’s a whole lot of cousins around. Harvest time in particular is great – a lot of family and friends like to get involved and the kids can always be found in the vineyard helping themselves to handfuls of grapes.
What makes the wines from 144 Islands Wines unique, and how do they reflect the Bay of Islands’ terroir?
The Bay of Islands offers a distinct climate and soil profile that we embrace fully in our winemaking. We have a high average temperature in comparison to other regions in New Zealand, but temperatures are moderated by our proximity to the ocean, so it thankfully never gets too hot. We also receive a lot more rainfall relative to other regions, which can offer a few challenges management wise, but ultimately it means we don’t need to irrigate, which means our roots dig deep into the soil and are far more resilient to the vagaries of climate. Our high average temperature fluctuates very little, and this ultimately means that flavours develop very early here, so, providing the weather plays ball, we have a huge harvest window, which certainly has its benefits too. Climate’s one thing, but in my view, the real beauty of this area is that we have volcanic soils, which lend a beautiful balance of svelte tannins, bright fruit and heightened aromatic potential, as well as a distinct earthy minerality. I’ve planted the vineyard to a multiplicity of varieties and what I’ve found is that they all thrive here, the challenge can be to build complexity into wines when the climate punctuates fruit characteristics so strongly. I overcome this by co-fermenting multiple grape varieties together at once, and picking varieties across a broad window of time, throughout various stages of their own individual ripening windows. By doing this, we blur the character of individual grape varieties and the wines become more of a reflection of place. In my mind this makes the resulting wines far more compelling. In a region where each vintage can be quite different to the last, it enables us to showcase the best a vintage has to offer each year.
You’ve recently expanded into producing vermouth and are planning more spirits. What inspired this diversification?
The decision to expand into vermouth and other spirits was driven by our love for exploring different aspects of winemaking and craft production, and these have been created in partnership with friend of mine, Michael Hanna from Project Hydrosol, who is a master distiller. As I mentioned, I find wines compelling when they convey a sense of where they come from. Vermouth, in particular, has been a natural extension of this, as we are able to imbue the character of the local native flora into a beverage, and so we make a dry white vermouth using botanicals such as Kawakawa and Kumarahou, a sweet red vermouth using Manuka flowers and tree barks from Kauri, Totara, and others. We’ve also just released a floral Rosé vermouth and a bone-dry orange vermouth using coastal ingredients that tastes like a dirty martini in a bottle.
To add to this, we’re about to release a few new non-wine products, including a botanically infused Limoncello and Orangello, as well as an Amaro. For me, these are products which not only occupy a niche not currently being thoroughly explored by New Zealand producers, but also tell a really great Northland story.
As a successful entrepreneur and vigneron, what advice do you have for those looking to start their own vineyard or business?
Persistence and resilience are key, as well as maintaining close ties to your customers, and having some financial security for when times are tough. Brands take years to build, and moments to destroy, so no matter what business you’re in, go forward with honesty and humility, and try to be as easy to do business with as possible. As far as my advice for anyone looking to get into the wine business, always look for opportunities to learn, always take feedback constructively, but most importantly trust your own gut. The best advice I received when I first started was “you don’t have to be bigger than the competition, and you don’t have to be better, you just have to be different”.
What are your future plans for 144 Islands Wines?
We’re focused on continuing to perfect and refine our wine and liqueur offerings, always with an eye on showcasing the best of our region. At the core, our mission remains the same: to produce exceptional, terroir-driven products that tell the story of our land and our place in it. We’re hoping in time to be able to develop our own tasting venue in the Bay of Islands, and expanding our offerings. I’m currently in the middle of expanding the vineyard, so growth is on the horizon.
How do you envision the future of winemaking in New Zealand, particularly in the Bay of Islands? I see a bright future for winemaking in New Zealand, and the Bay of Islands is a particularly exciting region with immense potential. As more people discover the unique characteristics of wines from this area, I believe we’ll see a growing appreciation for what we have to offer. Our focus will continue to be on sustainable practices and innovation, ensuring that we not only produce great wines but also take care of the land and environment that make it all possible. We’re committed to making wines that are not only enjoyable but also reflect the best of New Zealand’s winemaking traditions and its future.
We really hope everyone can try 144 Islands Wines in NZ and around the world!

At BioBonds, we are driven by a deep commitment to restore balance to the planet and ensure future generations inherit a world rich in biodiversity and natural abundance.
In the face of today’s pressing environmental challenges, we recognise the need for action. Yet, our mission is rooted not in urgency alone, but in optimism, responsibility, and a profound respect for the Earth. New Zealand’s landscapes have long been shaped by both human intervention and natural forces, yet the beauty and vitality of our native ecosystems continue to decline.
In response, BioBonds has embarked on a transformative journey to rehabilitate steep, unproductive farmland through the replanting of pristine, native forests. This is not simply about planting trees—it is a comprehensive approach to regeneration that reveres the land and respects the complex ecosystems that call it home.
Each forest we cultivate serves multiple vital roles: restoring habitats for native wildlife, stabilizing vulnerable lands, and creating robust carbon sinks to mitigate the impacts of climate change. By allowing these forests to thrive for generations without the risk of harvesting, we ensure that they not only enrich the present but also stand as living legacies for future generations.
In this way, BioBonds offers a tangible, lasting contribution to the global effort to combat climate change.
Our approach begins with the soil, nourishing it with the care and attention necessary to support the flourishing of native species. Before the first seedling is planted, we prioritise enhancing the health of the land, creating the conditions for resilient, thriving ecosystems.
These restored forests will not only absorb carbon from the atmosphere but also serve as natural filters for New Zealand’s waterways, improving the quality of our rivers, lakes, and oceans—a vital step in protecting our precious marine environments.
The work we do extends beyond ecological restoration. At the heart of BioBonds is a dedication to community and empowerment. By providing meaningful employment opportunities for young people, we invite them to be part of something greater than themselves. Through this work, they gain not only a connection to the land but also a sense of purpose, pride, and accomplishment.
Together, we are cultivating both the earth and the future stewards of this land. In addition to ecological and social impact, we envision our forests as places for reflection, wellness, and connection. With plans for eco-huts,
wellness centers, and retreats set among the natural beauty of native forests, we aim to create spaces where people can reconnect with the rhythms of nature, rejuvenate their spirits, and reflect on their own roles in the world’s larger ecosystem.
At BioBonds, we believe in the power of collective action to effect meaningful change. Our invitation is to all who seek to leave a legacy of regeneration, sustainability, and hope. By joining our community, you become part of a movement dedicated to healing the earth, one forest at a time. Together, we can ensure that the world we leave behind is better, stronger, and more vibrant than the one we inherited.
We invite you to join us on this journey, to become part of a community dedicated to both preservation and progress, and to help create a legacy that future generations will not only inherit, but cherish.

LET THEM EAT TRIPE THE STORY OF ANTOINE’S
By Tony Astle
In the affluent 1980s, Parnell’s Antoine’s restaurant—owned by Tony and Beth Astle—was booked solid for months, attracting politicians, dignitaries, and visiting celebrities. Known for serving only the finest, from crayfish to duck breast, the restaurant also offered wines priced as high as $20,000. Patrons rang a doorbell and were vetted before entry, and EFTPOS was never accepted.
This is the tale of Tony Astle, a bold, trailblazing entrepreneur who left a lasting mark on New Zealand’s dining scene. Always a provocateur, his stories are as outrageous as they are unforgettable.

Mike, you’re the new owner of Boxing Alley - what inspired you to take on this role?
I’ve always been passionate about health, fitness, and community. When the opportunity to take over Boxing Alley came up, I jumped at it. My son is a keen boxer and so I am I. Boxing is such an effective way to improve overall fitness, and I wanted to help create an environment where anyone, no matter their skill level, could come in and reap the benefits of this amazing sport.
For those unfamiliar with boxing, what are the key benefits that people can expect? There are so many! Here are six key benefits:
Improves Heart Health
Boxing is a fantastic cardiovascular workout. It gets your heart pumping, lowers blood pressure, and reduces the risk of heart disease.
Boosts Endurance
It’s not just about power—boxing builds stamina, which helps you perform better in your day-to-day activities.
Provides Full-Body Strength
Boxing engages nearly every muscle group. You’re not just working your arms; you’re strengthening your legs, core, and shoulders.
Helps with Weight Management
High-intensity boxing sessions burn serious calories, making it great for weight loss or maintenance.
Improves Balance
Footwork is a huge part of boxing, which helps you develop better balance and coordination.
Enhances Mental Health
Boxing isn’t just physical. It’s also a stress reliever and confidence booster. Hitting the bag can help you release tension, and the focus required sharpens your mind.
What’s the atmosphere like at Boxing Alley, especially now under your leadership?
We’re all about fostering a supportive and inclusive community. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone who’s been boxing for years, there’s a place for you here. We’ve got tailored classes for different skill levels and fitness goals. And it’s not just about learning proper technique—it’s about pushing yourself and feeling empowered in every class.
Is boxing really for everyone?
Absolutely! One of the biggest misconceptions is that you have to be super fit or experienced to start boxing. But the truth is, anyone can box. Our team at Boxing Alley is here to guide you, whether you’re aiming to compete or just want to get fit. Boxing offers something for everyone, from full-body conditioning to mental toughness.
What’s new at Boxing Alley with you at the helm?
While Boxing Alley is already wellestablished, we’re bringing in some exciting changes. We’re introducing new programs, upgrading equipment, and enhancing the overall experience for our members. We want to create a space where people can not only meet their fitness goals but also find a sense of community. We’re here to help you succeed on your boxing journey—whether that’s learning the basics, conquering new challenges, or unlocking your full potential.
What’s the best way to get started?
Your boxing journey starts with us! All you need to do is walk in with an open mind and a desire to improve. With our expert instructors and welcoming environment, we’ll help you get the most out of your training. Everyone is welcome to Boxing Alley—come in and let’s get started!

Aula Saado has always loved to cook and she can’t wait to bring her authentic Mediterranean flavours to 269. Freshly made pita bread; light, perfectly spiced falafel; creamy homemade hummus; tangy pickles and babaghanoush - these are just some of the flavours of her mother’s kitchen. “I’ve always loved cooking. I learned from my Mum when I was really young,” says Aula. “I remember baking cakes and learning to make pita bread alongside her - she still makes everything from scratch, no chemicals, no cheating.” Aula and her husband Sam want to share their authentic flavours, made the traditional way, with New Zealanders - and have sourced only the best ingredients to create their vibrant dips, zesty salads and mezze dishes - they even get their sumac from back home in Mum’s garden. “We want everyone to feel like they’re at our kitchen table so we can share our culture and love for food with them.”
Regi Gallina, a professional chef who has worked both in Brazil and New Zealand - most recently as a Culinary Arts tutor at NZMA - has always dreamed of introducing kiwis to the flavours of his homeland. He fondly recalls soft pao de queijo (cheese bread), salads bursting with chilli, lime, and coriander, hearty feijoada (black bean stew), and brisket, short rib, and pork belly cooked by his uncles over charcoal for hours on end. At his new Brazilian eatery in 269, Tambo, he’s created modern versions of many of these dishes and can’t wait to share them with Aucklanders looking for something a bit different. “Back home, food is so important - it’s all about sharing and connecting with the people we love. My wife Dawn and I want to create a community around the food of my childhood and we know New Zealanders will love just as much as we do.”
It’s always good when a chef has impressive credentials and Alfredo Romero has supervised major food and beverage operations across Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa, and the Americas, working for hospitality groups such as Marriott International, The Ritz Carlton, Banyan Tree and Sofitel (he was the executive chef at the Auckland Sofitel most recently) for 25 years. But his eatery at 269, Taco Amaiz, isn’t about fancy degustations and canapes –this is about going back to his roots and serving the kind of food he ate as a child in Sonora in the north of Mexico. He’s, fascinatingly, a walking encyclopedia of Mexican food as he travelled 4000+ km all over Mexico to help document the national cuisine and preserve old recipes that had only ever been handed down by word of mouth. Get ready for slowcooked meats in his authentic birria tacos made exactly how you’d find them at a roadside stall back home. Pure Mexican soul food.
Armando Campana and Alessandra Yanez came to New Zealand ten years ago for a one-year working holiday and never left. “We love New Zealand so much and are so glad we chose to visit all those years ago.” Armando has enjoyed honing his cheffing skills at high end restaurants like Pasture, Inca Platform8, Sidart and Onemata at the Park Hyatt but has always wanted to open his own modern Peruvian eatery.
“269 was the perfect opportunity - we love that there are people from so many different countries cooking their authentic food.” There will be ceviche - of course - grilled prawns with aji panca sauce, corn bread, Armando’s unique take on the traditional empanada and so much more “I hope that when people taste my food they’ll also taste a little of my grandmother’s kitchen in the Andes. We are so proud of our food from home and we can’t wait to share it with people at 269.”
From fish and chips in the UK to serving hand-crafted Italian liqueurs at Bossi in Auckland, Pete Watson’s journey in hospitality has been as rich and varied as the menus he helps create. ‘I began back in 2013,’ Pete reminisces, ‘at a small fish and chip shop, then moved to an American smokehouse, where I eventually became head bartender and trainer. They even flew me to Austin, Texas, for cocktail training—it was an eye-opener!’ Since then, Pete’s love for authentic, creative experiences has been a constant theme, leading him to summer seasons in Ibiza and, ultimately, to New Zealand. ‘I came here for a holiday in 2018... and never left!’
Now, as the Restaurant Manager at Bossi, Pete finds joy in working closely with both the kitchen and front-ofhouse teams, ensuring each guest feels part of the Bossi family. ‘We’re a small team, and that brings a sense of ownership. Every bartender and server has input on our menus, from cocktails to wine selections. It keeps everyone passionate.’
We take great pride in making everything from scratch here at Bossi - from our freshly baked bread to our handmade pastas, and even our liqueurs! Bossi’s commitment to authenticity extends to its signature, house-made Limoncello. ‘We steep lemon peel in neutral vodka for six weeks,’ Pete explains. ‘It’s a recipe from Executive Chef Shaun Dowling and inspired by owner Jenna Carter’s Nonna.’ Guests can savour it as a digestif, as part of a Sorento Sunset cocktail, or even as a welcome drink.
Pete’s less-is-more philosophy shines in Bossi’s cocktail infusions. ‘Our oregano-infused vodka and rosemary gin are simple yet elegant,’ he says. For summer, Bossi’s cocktails embrace Italian inspiration, from the bold Smoking Gun to the Royal Rosa, a gin-based floral delight. The bar’s newest addition, a shaved ice machine, promises dessert cocktails with a refreshing twist—a tribute to Italian street cart culture. With it, we’ll be serving up dessert cocktails featuring fresh fruit and our own infused liqueurs. Anyone who’s spent a hot summer day in Italy will know exactly what we’re talking about! We’re looking forward to bringing this experience to our guests.
When asked about his favorite, Pete laughs, ‘It has to be the Smoking Gun—bold, balanced, and full of flavour, like everything we aim for at Bossi.’

Our Italian take on the French 75, made with rosemary-infused gin, Aperol, fresh lemon, and Prosecco.
A refreshing mix of gin, cucumber juice, elderflower, rosemary, and tonic.
A floral gin-based cocktail with Italian rosé, rose syrup, lime, and egg white.
A smoky, spicy blend of chilliinfused mezcal, Aperol, Cointreau, and lime.
A creative twist on the classic espresso martini, featuring chocolate and Baileys.
Imagine a master winemaker from one of the world’s most prestigious wine regions being so impressed with the quality of New Zealand’s grapes that he decided to travel across the globe to cocreate his own wine in Hawke’s Bay? That is exactly what happened with the renowned LVCA Wines, a range of super premium wines made from the finest grapes Hawke’s Bay has to offer.
What started as a simple wine advisory relationship between Bordeaux Master winemaker Ludwig Vanneron and New Zealand viticulturist and winemaker Chase Arquette in 2015 quickly morphed into something much bigger. A shared dream to make great wines from New Zealand that had the potential to stand beside the great wines of Bordeaux. New Zealand’s very own Grand Cru wines.
In 2016 that vision became reality as LVCA Wines released their first vintage. Two red wine blends in the Bordeaux style: Le Galant, a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, left bank style and Le Charmant, a Merlot dominant, right bank style, both made from Hawke’s Bay grapes.
Le Galant is a powerhouse wine with the drive of pristine Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Merlot dominant Le Charmant despite the full-bodied nature of the wine lives up to its ‘charming’ moniker and is soft and elegant. The robust Merlot blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
While other wines have since been released by LCVA Wines, Le Galant and Le Charmant remain their showcase wines, the wines that represent the very best that the brand has to offer. Quality and
age-ability are hallmarks of LCVA Wines. While for other brands each year brings a new harvest and a new vintage in bottle, this is not a given for the formidable team of Vanneron and Arquette. Their dedication to quality means they have no hesitation in refusing to make a wine. Should they feel that the grapes don’t meet the standard to produce a wine of this calibre, then Le Galant and Le Charmant will not be made that year. The ultimate commitment to making the best wine, or no wine at all.
LCVA wines are available in strictly limited quantities and by allocation only.

In many cultures, a table is a sacred place, a centerpiece where families and friends gather, sharing meals and creating memories. At Trivet, the flagship restaurant of JW Marriott Auckland, this notion lies at the heart of every experience. Much like a trivet protects the table from the heat of a hot dish, Trivet, as a restaurant, seeks to safeguard and enhance this sacred space where connections flourish.
Inspired by the vibrant multicultural fabric of Aotearoa, Trivet combines rich, diverse flavours and age-old techniques with the finest local ingredients. Each dish tells a story that transcends borders, paying homage to the culinary traditions of New Zealand while adding unexpected twists that spark curiosity. Chef Wallace Mua, whose passion for cooking stems from his Samoan roots where family gatherings are central, brings over two decades of culinary expertise to Trivet. His “elaborately simple” cooking style bridges tradition and innovation, creating an approachable menu that invites guests to share familiar flavours with a fresh touch.
From sustainably sourced seafood to locally grown produce, every ingredient is thoughtfully selected to reflect Trivet’s ethos of authenticity and connection. Set in a welcoming, nature-inspired interior that blends earthy greens with warm wood tones. Its central location at 22 Albert Street in Auckland, paired with elegant private dining spaces, makes it a perfect setting for both intimate gatherings, afterwork drinks, family or friend dining experiences and grand celebrations.
At Trivet, dining is an experience crafted to resonate with the soul. It’s a place where everyone feels at home, where every meal is a story shared. For inquiries, contact +6499123020 or email hello@trivetdining.co.nz
McLeod’s Brewery’s flagship beer, Longboarder, perfectly captures the heart of Waipu’s surf and Scottish heritage. A German Pilsner at its core, this crisp and refreshing brew features a healthy dose of New Zealand hops, bringing bright citrus and melon aromas. Cold-conditioned for six weeks using McLeod’s house lager yeast, Longboarder delivers a smooth, cracker-like maltiness balanced by fine bitterness, making it the ideal refreshment after a day on the waves.
The roots of McLeod’s Brewery run deep, starting with summers spent at Waipu Cove. Owners Geoff and Clayton Gwynne traded corporate life for the sun-kissed sands of Northland and purchased Waipu’s Pizza Barn in 2003. As lovers of craft beer, they longed for brews that were bold and authentic, and in 2014, they decided to start brewing their own. After a few initial bumps, McLeod’s Brewery was born, drawing inspiration from the local Scottish heritage.
With Head Brewer Jason Bathgate at the helm, McLeod’s has grown into a successful and passionate team, crafting unique beers that reflect both their homeland and surfing spirit. So, whether you’re enjoying a pint after a long day on your board or just passing through Northland, McLeod’s Longboarder Lager is your perfect companion for adventure.

At Wilson & Dorset, we’re committed to eliminating synthetic materials from your home.
Our luxurious products, crafted from sustainably sourced New Zealand sheepskin, are designed with longevity in mind.
Founded by Wānaka locals Amanda Dorset and Ben Wilson, our brand has established global recognition for our cosy, stylish range. Highlights include our signature Sheepskin Shaggy Bean Bags, premium floor rugs, and versatile stacked floor cushions (Stone Sets).
Unlike synthetic rugs, cushions, and furniture—which are often energy-intensive and made from petrochemicals— our natural sheepskin products are built to withstand daily use without compromising quality. Many synthetics break down or deteriorate, ultimately contributing to landfill waste.

Driving the new Range Rover Sport D250 SE feels like embracing the perfect combination of power, luxury, and practicality. As I took it through the streets of Auckland, I couldn’t help but appreciate its seamless blend of assertive performance and elegant design. Powered by a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder Twin-Turbocharged Diesel MHEV AWD engine, this SUV not only delivers a powerful driving experience but does so with remarkable efficiency.
What stood out to me was the distinctive design—the ‘carved from solid’ silhouette, the floating halo roof, and flush deployable door handles. It’s clear that Range Rover’s commitment to craftsmanship is present in every detail, inside and out. The interior is equally impressive, with its full-width instrument panel and the sophisticated Pivi Pro infotainment system on a 13.1” curved touchscreen, making connectivity effortless with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Range Rover Sport D250 is not just about aesthetics; it’s designed to perform. Whether navigating Auckland’s urban streets or venturing off-road, the handling is smooth, and the ride feels dynamic yet refined. If you’re looking for an SUV that blends luxury with versatility, this is it. Starting at $170,000, the D250 SE offers a truly exceptional driving experience.

When I first got behind the wheel of my KGM Rexton, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I needed something that could handle my busy city life, but also the demands of the farm and my weekend escapes to the beach. It didn’t take long to realise I was in love.
Driving through the city, the Rexton feels smooth and responsive. Despite its size, it’s easy to maneuver, and the elevated seating gives me a great view of the road ahead. I always feel safe, which is a big deal for me when I’m driving alone at night or in heavy traffic. Parking is easier than I thought, too, thanks to the sensors and the rear camera – no more stressing about squeezing into tight spaces.
When it comes to the farm, that’s where the Rexton really shines. I regularly tow a trailer loaded with supplies, and the power this thing has makes it feel effortless. The rough farm tracks are no issue either – it just eats up the bumps and keeps going. I don’t have to worry about getting stuck or the vehicle struggling.
And then there are my beach trips. I can drive straight onto the sand without a second thought. The all-wheel drive kicks in when I need it, and I feel totally in control. It’s the perfect balance of fun and practicality. This car has taught me a lot about driving too.
Honestly, this car makes my life easier. I feel safe, capable, and ready for whatever the week throws at me.

Brain fog, shortness of breath, excessive sweating, and fatigue; these are all symptoms that 74-year-old Sally has battled with over the last eleven years.
In 2012, it was a fateful hospital visit for bronchitis and hypokalaemia (low blood potassium levels) that would see her health begin to decline and kickstart her decade long journey with heart disease.
And as a busy grandmother, teacher, and volunteer, the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation (AF) was a devastating blow.
“I just didn’t feel well at all and so I went to the doctor,” recalls Sally. “I didn’t see my usual GP; I just saw whoever was available because I knew I needed to get seen quickly. The GP suspected I had AF and I had to go to hospital right away.”
AF is a common heart rhythm condition that can cause stroke and heart failure. It causes an irregular and often rapid heart rate, and more than 60,000 Kiwis like Sally have been diagnosed.
“Living with AF is an arduous experience,” says Sally. “I constantly battled with brain fog, breathlessness, fatigue, and exhaustion. My hands shook all the time, and I always had a headache.”

The Uber x Red Cross Clothing Drive, supported by Colin Mathura-Jeffree, was a tremendous success, making it easier for Kiwis to declutter their wardrobes and donate pre-loved, high-quality clothing. People in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch took advantage of the free Uber pick-up service to donate directly from their doorsteps. Colin’s encouragement to let go of items that no longer served them resonated with many, leading to generous contributions. Kiwis came together in a massive show of generosity donating over 42,000kgs of clothing through this year’s Uber x Red Cross Clothing Drive. The Clothing Drive made it easy for New Zealanders to donate high-quality clothing directly from their doorsteps, using Uber Package to deliver items to Red Cross shops free of charge. Kiwis across NZ got behind the cause, with approximately 29,000kg donated in Auckland, 7,000kg in Wellington, and 6,000kg in Christchurch.
Both Uber and New Zealand Red Cross were thrilled with the outpouring of support, with 3,500 free Uber Package trips recorded throughout the day and amazing donations collected including a fully tailored suit worn by New Zealand fashion icon, Colin Mathura-Jeffree.
The clothing drive not only stocked Red Cross stores but also supported the organisation’s humanitarian effort.
