We love our baby. We love the quality and the sophistication that it has brought to the bi-cultural Latino market. It is a product that has not been seen before. It’s because of this we stand as a solid force of print design, creativity and innovation. This magazine is our creation, our child. We have spared no expense, quality or sophistication, which are what we have dedicated to delivering to the growing Latino market. As we celebrate our first anniversary, we want you to take part in this special day. Your comments will always be taken into account, making this a process that is mutual, shared and comprehensive. Happy Birthday to a project that a year and a half ago was only a dream. As we mark this milestone, we are thrilled to bring new exciting pages. We listened to your comments and your requests to make sure we position ourselves as the top bicultural Latino magazine in New York City. We proudly say we are number one on reach, content, photography and "look and feel" for a bi-cultural market. We strive to offer the best material, thus meeting the demands and expectations of a community that is committed to its roots. Our anniversary issue cover model, the sexy and smart Brazilian model Sasckya Porto, knows this. Her lifestyle is additive, not subtractive, which means she incorporates American values, traditions, holidays, foods and music on top of her Hispanic culture. What we know for sure is that acculturation is not a linear journey. It is an ongoing and ever-changing process with no particular end-point; Hispanics don’t necessarily want to reach a “fully assimilated destination.” We love music, family, food, fashion, sports, celebrities and spirituality. That is why we added new pages to reflect just that. We hope that Latinos continue to show that they are more bi-cultural than ever, which allows them to experience and savor the best of both worlds. Our vision is to create an appetite for all things that Hispanics care about and love. This is certainly where we get our strength and energy - from you, our readers. And our commitment is growing stronger. A big thank you for your companionship and support over the past wonderful year. We assure you that this is only the beginning of an alliance that is rewarding and productive. On behalf of the editorial board, graphics department and creative collaborators, we wish you a Happy Anniversary!

The #1 treatment to remove those lines and soften the harsh look of a New Yorker is… Botox/ Dysport cosmetic and filler injectables. Why do actresses and other performers look so good at ages 40, 50 & 60? Maintenance treatments with a facial injectable specialist. While having an injectable treatment is important to start, maintenance treatments every 4-6 months will stimulate the collagen fibers under the skin to regenerate and grow new life into a tired face. Volume loss is another big trouble maker. Loss of volume is the primary reason why we lose our cheeks, lips and fullness in our faces. With the use of Radiesse, Restylane or Perlane we can put that trouble maker to bed and enjoy a full younger looking feature and healthier looking skin.

ALTERNATIVAS NEW TRENDS YORK
1 Sachika Twins Fashion Show
T
wice a year, leaders in the fashion industry make their way to New York City for a week filled with runway shows, cocktail parties and press events. Last year, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week moved from the traditional and beloved Bryant Park to the more functional Lincoln Center. Initially, the move was frowned upon by fashion’s most elite, but one could hardly sense any disapproval this season as editors, buyers and Internet bloggers eagerly made their way into the spacious venue. Every season, there are a few collections from top designers that leave fashion insiders scrambling for a front row seat assignment. Diane Von Furstenberg, Custo Barcelona, and Tommy Hilfiger are three of the toughest shows to get into, but they are well worth the wait in line. Diane has developed a universally popular brand in her DVF line, creating classically bold pieces that woman of any age want to wear. Custo was true to his aesthetic for bright colors and bold prints, sampling loose-fitting, billowy tops and dresses for women and tailored jackets and slim-fitting trousers for men. Hilfiger stuck to his “All-American Girl” inspiration that has helped solidify his highly respected international brand. Mixing classic cuts and neutral colors with bold hues of red and yellow made his collection both memorable and consumer-friendly. For a less tame runway experience, celebrity twin fashion designers and TV personalities the 1 Sachika Twins, put on a lively show off-site at the Metropolitan Pavilion.
Along with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week comes a trail of other notable and equally captivating industry events. Couture Fashion Week went above and beyond in its eighth year of production, featuring designers from Dubai, India, Russia, Lebanon, Morocco, Germany, UK, China and Brazil. Taking place at the Waldorf-Astoria in midtown Manhattan on September 16-18, these
select shows specifically focus on more avant-garde garments from a variety of acclaimed international designers. While each collection features a different designer, the entire event is more theatrical in nature than shows one would see at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. This season, many designers opted to incorporate live singers and dancers into their collections, giving life to their initial inspiration and sharing this with the audience through a creative medium. 2 Simone Rodrigues the designer behind Sisa Designs, presented a collection that holds true to her Brazilian roots and her New York City bold aesthetic. She is known for her flattering construction of eveningwear dresses that are well suited to women of any shape. By selecting chiffon, silk, lace and taffeta fabrics and embellishing each design with less traditional materials such as feathers and flowers, her collection both excites and inspires woman of a modern age and perspective. Guests expecting a grand finale were not disappointed. Couture Fashion Week CEO and Producer, 3 Andres Aquino, presented his very own collection entitled “Le Cirque” in the Grand Ballroom to conclude the day’s events. Building anticipation to the start of his show, singing group "The Broadway Dolls" performed an energetic set that put guests on the edge of their seats. Accompanying his sophisticated and luxurious line of eveningwear gowns was a live performance from an Afro-Cuban singer, whose voice enhanced the overall viewing experience. Aquino once again succeeded in creating pieces that allow the wearer to showcase her natural beauty without being overwhelmed by the dress itself. Known for his extravagant productions, Aquino collaborated with Elie Esper who created over-the-top hairstyles to complement the inspiration behind his collection. One look featured two models walking hand in hand with hair extensions several feet high and connected at the top. Planete Chic New York Fashion Week was an equally notable event, taking place on September 15 at Midtown Loft Space. The event showcased three international designers who debuted very different but equally impressive collections. Former Creative Director at Aveda, Rudy Miles, led the make-up team

while New York’s Scott J headed up the hair team for each readyto-wear collection. Organizers included Fashion Magazine/TV, The Fashion Insider, Planet Fashion TV, Hudson Country TV, Fashion Daily Magazine and My Style. Executive Director of Planete Chic, Herve Racaud, produced the event in collaboration with Dr. Shireen Fernandez and Samuel Harris from Society Choice Magazine. 4 Adriana Cobo of Ecuador found her inspiration for “Genesis Warriors” from ancient amazon warriors and combined this influence with a more feminine aesthetic by constructing garments in colors readily found in nature. The contrast of strong textures and soft fabrics helped achieve her goal of creating a collection that raises environmental awareness. Her use of pleated ruffled embellishments and shiny fabrics added a touch of sophistication to each runway look. Presenting next was 5 Alberto Rodriguez, who is a regular at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Mexico. His “Couture Pretty Collection” sampled evening wear dresses that flatter a woman’s body in all the right places, experimenting with fabric, color and design. Rodriguez is known for his elegant choice of fabrics, opting for luxurious materials like silk, satin and late and finishing off each garment with detailed embellishments for added sophistication. Design house 6 Sarli Couture, hails from Italy and has a string of celebrity clientele including Liz Taylor, Bianca Jagger, Monica Bellucci and Carla Bruni. Her collection was comprised of classic and feminine dresses mixed in with less-wearable but conceptually brilliant pieces. Tailored slacks mediated nicely between brightcolored Grecian-inspired pieces. Colombo-Venezuelan designer, 7 Raul Peñaranda presented cohesive collection of elegant eveningwear dresses worthy of any redcarpet event. Models glided down the runway, keeping to the beat of the fast-tempo music chosen for this show, thus appealing to a younger demographic. Edgy details incorporated into his designs directly speak to his target audience of strong and confident women. Colombian-born designer, 8 Sandra Baquero unveiled her Spring/Summer 2012 collection on September 14 at Red Bull Loft. The event was produced and presented

by Modalistas showroom and showcased a versatile line inspired by both Colombia and New York City, where the designer is now based. Classically chic dresses with an element of edgy appeal transitioned into more experimental pieces with complex texturizing and layering techniques. Baquero was specifically inspired by the Sombrero Vueltiao, a traditional hat from Colombia, whose colors and striped pattern were directly incorporated into many of her runway looks. The 9 Lawrence Blake Couture Series was held on September 12, taking place in the prestigious Bryant Park’s Cellar Bar. The charitable event benefited The National MS Society. Organized by Sydney Cohan of Frocked Out and Blake Harvey of The Lawrence Blake Group featured designers Vincente Ray, Veronica Spadaro, Thomas Lavone, Stevie Boi and Devon Thomas, Also taking place at Cellar Bar was Ola Hawatmeh’s OLA Style runway show. Originally from Jordan, she now lives in St. Louis where she is a main fixture on the local fashion scene. Megan Eileen McDonough is a freelance writer and social media specialist based in New York City. She has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Communications from the University of Mary Washington in Virginia. Megan is also the Founder & Editorin-Chief of Bohemian Trails, an online travel magazine focusing on global art and culture. She can be reached at megan@bohemiantrails.com. Designer Simone Rodriguês:
On the Top of the World Stage Sisa Designs–Simone Rodriguês
by George Roberts
Simone Rodriguês started designing when she was just a little girl growing up in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. She used to dress up her dolls and imagine herself wearing them one day. This childhood play became her biggest passion, and it was just the beginning of a brilliant carrier. At first, Simone followed her instincts and talent, and for ten years worked as a model featuring several brands and designers. She gained a lot of experience, and she proved to others and to herself that she could go even higher. She was right. Simone graduated in fashion and became today an influential and well known designer. Thinking about how beautiful a woman can be inside out, Simone
WWW.MYLIFESTYLENY.COM | 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION
decided to fully invest in her design career and became today one of the strongest names in the fashion Industry. She launched her own label in 2004, and ever since her designs have been showcased on a number of runways in fashion shows and beauty pageants in Brazil and the United States. Simone has dressed some celebrities like Crystal Santos (actress and producer), Amanda Baker (actress), Brittany Simpson (producer), Karen Hoyos (motivator speaker), and others. Simone has also become the preferred designer for a number of top Brazilian celebrities, and has featured designer at the 10 Best Dressed Awards by Leonard Simpson. Simone is also involved in many different projects and public awareness like breast cancer, leukaemia and others. She is a woman who believes that anything is possible in life as long as you believe in yourself.
“I am so grateful to overcome my obstacles and I believe that life has a lot to offer as long as we have positive attitude. My family, my work and friends are my everything and I just thank God for all.” says Simone. During our interview, she reveals that nature inspires her. She uses warm tones in her designs to accentuate the women’s beauty and sensuality. Simone’s main goal is to bring classic elegance regardless of age or size. The garments are made of the finest hand-selected fabrics including chiffon, silk, lace, taffeta, feathers, flowers and crystals. Perfect cutting and draping make each piece smooth and stunning. Her lines include swimwear, evening and bridal gowns, and accessories. As a brilliant designer, Simone mentions that Sisa’s fall and winter trends will highlight animal print and earth colors. Simone seems to have a special gift and consistently creates new pieces every season that women fall in love with. She can costume individual designs, including handmade accessories like belts, shoes and jewelry. So what does her future hold? “My biggest dream is having a big fashion show at Copacabana Palace Hotel in Rio de Janeiro and reaches the Brazilian Fashion Industry,” Simone says. She’s grateful to her fans and fashion industry which have embraced her amazing work. Simone was the only Brazilian designer at the Couture Fashion Week in New York City. Once again for spring 2012 collection she went back to her roots and showcased her designs by using sound tracks of Brazilian rhythm, featured models from Brazil, and other nationalities. Simone’s (Sisa) inspiration raised when she met a 14 years old girl cancer survivor who lived her dream being a model at Sisa’s runway. Highlighting Brazilian colors, the catwalk was on fire. Simone is definitely a woman who people admire because of her elegance, strong personality and her extraordinary work. Congratulations to Simone Rodriguês - Sisa Designs!

Sasckya Porto
"I never cared about being naked. I don't think that's a bad thing." That's the electric effect that Porto has on people. Being that she is a former Miss Brazil/USA 2009, the graceful model is used to the attention. And although Porto is adored by men from all over the world, she remains humble and grounded. "Most people judge me by the way I look," the beauty says of how people sometimes misjudge her. "They think I am snobby and bitchy when I am actually simple, friendly and easy to talk to." It was for that reason and so many others that Porto was chosen to be the cover model for the first anniversary edition of My Lifestyle Magazine. For such a special occasion, the shoot took place at Coney Island, a place Porto could really step out of the world the grind of the city and let loose. "The fun part was to show the real New York," says Photographer Yann . "New York is not only Manhattan. Coney Island is very specific. It's not like the postcards with skyscrapers, but it's the true New York." Stylist Nora Stallworth selectively chose an appropriate series of designs. "Dresses with gold accents such as studs, chain links, metallic and beads elevate the Latin spice for which Sasckya and My Lifestyle Magazine represents," Stallworth says. "Gold proved to be a perfect pairing for the one-year anniversary issue." Porto studied marketing at Boston University, but she was destined for something much bigger. It was around that time she came in contact with a fashion director at Saks Fifth Avenue who told her that beantown was getting too small for her. "Honey, with your face, you can go anywhere in the world. We will miss you," the blunt director told her. Porto then moved to New York City to further her career in modeling, a passion she had loved since age 15. One of Porto's biggest career highlights was being chosen as 2007 Playmate of the Year in Playboy Magazine. For a woman who grew up in a small town near Recife, Brazil, her appearance in the top magazine in the world for men was a big achievement. Today, she still impresses as this issue's cover model. "It is a prestigious magazine," Porto says. "I am very happy and thrilled to be on the cover of this publication. After this photo shoot, I am sure I will get more fans." She smiles. Our lifestyle reporter Carlos Mayorga sat down with her prior to the Coney Island shoot and asked her about how others reacted to her posing nude for all the world to admire. Her response: it's something that her family and hometown quickly got used to. "Everyone was like 'wow, that's the girl we were growing up together with and now she's all naked,'" says a laughing Porto of the reaction back in Brazil. "I never cared about being naked. I don't think that's a bad thing." WWW.MYLIFESTYLENY.COM | 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION

"I believe in the essence of being a Latina." It's her comfort in her own skin, plus Porto's progressive and ambitious outlook that landed her in New York City, where she continues to live today in an apartment on Wall Street. Being in the heart of a world-class city is testament to her as a Latina woman who is confident, smart, sexy and someone who doesn't back down. "I believe in the essence of being a Latina," Porto proudly proclaims in Spanish, who playfully navigates her interviews in also English and Portuguese. "Only Latinas have that," she adds. "I am sorry to say that, but it's the truth." So what's the definition of beauty for a woman who seems to have it all? For her, the answer has nothing to do with looks. "I have a mother who is very small, but she is confident," Porto says. "She is not skinny, but her confidence makes her so sexy and beautiful. You only get that by the things you tell yourself." Her mother's poise has rubbed off on Porto, who once wrote on her personal blog that she's the kind of woman you don't want to mess with. It makes sense, being that she thrives in a tough business that requires thick skin, especially in an entertainment world headed mostly by men. Just before wrapping up her Coney Island cover shoot, Porto managed to captivate not only beach visitors, but also the people working behind the scenes. Her professionalism, sexiness and positive attitude impressed the whole staff. After we were almost done for the day, our stylist Stallworth walked over to congratulate the top model. She says that Porto knew just the right way to get the most out of the day thanks to her outgoing attitude and sex appeal. "Her body, her attitude, she knew how to exude and work the clothing," Stallworth says. "It was all absolutely wonderful. Look at her. She's gorgeous." ¿Tienes Problemas Para Combinar Los Colores? AQUÍ TE DOY UNA GUÍA PARA QUE TODO TE SEA MAS FÁCIL Por Yuliana Duarte
C

The Magic
Of Manifestation By: Karen Hoyos Global transformational leader, coach and author.
Throughout the ages people have shown the world that dreams do come true. What may have once seemed impossible, just took a burning desire, a declaration and boundless determination to make a reality. Think for a moment, just over hundred years ago an airplane didn’t exist. “Flight is possible for man” Was the powerful statement made by Wilbur Wright, co-inventor of the first engine airplane. Many naturally laughed and didn’t believe in that “crazy” idea! But Wilbur and his bother Orville Wright believed in him and with that total conviction they gave people the flying power of the birds. Another example is to remember President John F Kennedy’s extraordinary words: “We choose to go to the moon”; “We choose to go to the moon in this decade not because is easy, but because is hard, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win” “… But how can this be possible”? -Many people asked. The President didn’t ask “How?”; he just declared “When!” People often forget their power to manifest and when someone tells them what can be done, they think that it is only for “the lucky ones” not for them; others will try to achieve something but may believe it will only work in “some” areas, but deep inside they don’t think it is possible to manifest it “all” . The truth is that we are ALL manifesting ALL the time. Some consciously manifest the life of their dreams, and others unconsciously live by default. I have been very blessed to serve over nine thousand people who have taken my seminars over the past five years, and I have experienced the miracles of manifestation in my own life and the lives of others. Many people would admit that even though they know they can manifest their dreams, and even know what tools to use, for some reason their reality doesn’t match fully what they are imagining. After years of discovering, experiencing, and sharing manifestation in my own life, I became committed to finding a way to show others how to manifest what they want for themselves and for the world; and decided to create my seminar THE MAGIC OF MANIFESTATION. The following are some key distinctions that I use in my seminars that will remind you how to allow yourself to be the powerful WWW.MYLIFESTYLENY.COM | 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION
MANIFESTER you already are: 1. Clarity is power: In order for you to manifest anything you must be very clear of what is it that you want. Now, it is important to know that you have to think not only what you desire but how this dream will benefit you and others. When you send the intention of serving others through your own goals this energy will align the universe in your favor and you will rapidly enjoy the impact of your great intentions. 2. Your words have power: You create your world from your language. Be aware of everything you say because your subconscious mind is recording everything as facts. Take the clear vision of your dream and declare it to the world! How? First write it down thanking the universe for the generosity of what is already given to you even before you physically have it! Then share it with passion with all the people in your life and every one you meet. Every time you share from your heart the vibration of your joy will open the door of your desire for it to be manifested. 3. Celebrate: Celebrating is the art of acknowledging where you are so you can create the space of where you want to go. Honor everything you have accomplished so far, the people in your life, your health, your gifts. A grateful heart will continue manifesting more joy in the form of results to match the frequency of your choice! 4. Walk by faith: When I talk about faith I’m not talking about religion. I do honor and respect your spiritual beliefs. I refer to faith as the powerful force that moves every part of our universe. Faith is a confident belief and acceptance of that which we imagine to be true, that which we cannot prove. Only when you allow faith to enter your heart, you will fully manifest not only what you want in harmony with the world but what you truly deserve! I invite you today to open your arms to receive THE MAGIC OF MANIFESTATION! Karen Hoyos is a Global Transformational Leader, coach and author. Hay que
Disfrutar Manhattan…!

NYC CONDOMS
There Is An App For That By Ces ar Florez
R
eady for a night out on the town? There are always times when we ponder and plan, even if it’s just in our heads for that night when we can come out and play. We just want to go out for a little fun and a relaxing time without worrying about waking up early the next morning, or going to work. For most of us, that visionary time is on the weekends; and we opt to go out either on a Friday or a Saturday night depending on what we plan to accomplish on that given weekend. After all, we work hard and we deserve to treat ourselves to the pleasures that life has to offer us, especially living in one of the greatest cities in the world; the city that never sleeps. Okay, now that we are done justifying why we deserve a night out on this wonderful and exciting city, let’s get our outfits ready and find a venue, a chillin’ spot that will enhance our senses and add to our life adventures and experiences. For many, this process is simple; sometimes a little too simple, in my opinion, especially if the process only consists of picking out an old pair of decrepit jeans and an old, wrinkly and dilapidated t-shirt. But enough judgment, let’s continue getting ready. For the ladies, picking out the right clothes for a night out can be a meticulous and extensive ceremony regardless of how many times it has been performed in their lifetime; the time allocation for this practice will always average to the same, a really long time. And in spite of my criticism, I think many will agree with me in saying that that entire ordeal pays off. Once ready, they feel beautiful and ready to conquer the city and we, conversely feel conquered with a simple glance and seduced by such glimmering and gorgeous beauty. Now, that is not to say that we as men don’t have something to offer in this equation. We do. Many of us do put some effort into our appearance and wearing the proper attire does send an intended message on our part. We can suit up as elegant and debonair, bring it down a notch into a casual and friendly attire or simply portray an unassumingly relaxed but yet eye-catching look that aims at putting the opposite sex at ease and more approachable. I have endeavored to condense in a few lines the social intricacies that entail the preamble of a social evening in New York City; and in doing so I hope to have created in you an appreciation for what sometimes appears simple. Let us now get to the party. We are out with friends, or maybe even alone depending on the occasion or situation and the night is going well. Having fun, socializing, laughing, dancing, mingling with new people and in all of that you happen to meet someone that alters your pheromones (that’s another fancy word meaning that your hormones reacted to someone who has made an impact in you). You both decide to interact some more and see if there is enough chemistry and desire to take it to the next WWW.MYLIFESTYLENY.COM | 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION
level. And guess what? There is. You’ve managed to seduce her and it’s time to go to a more intimate place where you can let passion consume you both into ecstasy. So, you get on your car, or her car and start driving, but then you realize something… You don’t have any condoms on you and you know there are none at home either. You’re low on cash since you really weren’t expecting on the night going so well you didn’t prepare accordingly. And at the prospect of ending the night unfulfilled you wonder: What to do? Well, if you happen to have an iPhone or an Android Phone, the solution is but a touch away (no pun intended). Aware that sometimes lust can’t wait (I mean love) the New York City Health Department has made it swift and simple to locate free condoms around the city. So now, whenever you find yourself stranded, without cash and without condoms don’t worry, There is an App for That!!.
"The only thing the App doesn’t provide you with is a partner. " No, the App won’t give you cash, but through its GPS engineered system will pinpoint your location and with a few touches or clicks you’ll be provided with a list of the nearest free condom distribution venues and directions for getting there. The NYC Condom Finder application or “The App of Love” as it is labeled by some, was launched on Valentine’s Day 2011 by the New York City Department of Health as part of a goal “‘to make New York City the safest city in the world to have sex,’ Monica Sweeney, the Health Department’s assistant commissioner for its Bureau of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control told CNN.” This free application can be downloaded from the App Store or Android Market and in addition to being available in these smart phones, you can download it onto your iPad. How does it work? It’s pretty simple really; the App will give you the option of locating venues based on your actual location or you can enter a particular address. You will then have the address, hour of operation for that particular venue and directions on how to get there. The app will even provide you with health information and in case it has been a while, directions on how to use the condom. The site is not only limited to male condoms; you can also get female condoms and information and recommendations on safe sex. It is a very complete application that in addition to getting you out of a jam and getting you safe into bed provides you with accurate and useful information that goes a long way. The only thing the App doesn’t provide you with is a partner. I guess there isn’t an App for that… yet.

ALTERNATIVAS NEW LATINOS YORK
O'Neiell Espinal has been house manager of Soho House New York for just under two years. It's his latest success in a career that has spanned more than 22 years. Members and guests have come to rely on his expertise to ensure they continue to receive toprate service at a place that has always been a posh destination for the successful.
“To be a good General, you need to be a very good soldier.” “We are truly a house of hospitality,” says Espinal, on the reputation Soho House has built over the years. “We definitely have the opportunity to be the highest standard in a city with so many high standards.” Born in the Dominican Republic, the 39 year old and a team of others oversee dozens of employees. He won the Best in Hospitality Award at the Latin Pride National Awards in his home country last year. He believes it's his multicultural background that has brought flavor and excitement to the six-story locale. “There’s always a good excuse for a little dancing or a little extra eating,” says Espinal, reflecting on his childhood in the Caribbean and how that culture applies to his career. “That approach comes from where I was born. I think I bring flair to Soho House. Not bringing it would mean I would not be coming to work.” Soho House is upscale and getting inside the private club can be difficult. These days, getting a membership can be like winning the lottery. It's because of that exclusiveness that its members, including some celebrities and top figures, feel at ease. Once inside, Soho House spoils its members, offering 45,000 square feet of amenities, Espinal says. The location hosts regular wine tasting, movie nights in its cinema theater, and features a Cowshed spa with private Eucalyptus steam rooms and a quiet tea room. WWW.MYLIFESTYLENY.COM | 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION
It also functions as a hotel with 24 rooms. When the sun goes down, members and guests flock to the roof. That's when it turns into a sizzling pool side nightspot with sensational views of the Hudson River and Lower Manhattan. Espinal says making sure guests are pleased is top objective and he stays focused by always being ready for whatever comes. The hospitality expert spent much of his upbringing with family in the United States, where he began his career working as a front desk clerk. He was quickly promoted to other positions, a process that helped him develop a well-rounded view of taking care of people. “To be a good General, you need to be a very good soldier,” Espinal says. “I did a lot of lateral movement, so I was able to experience every aspect of the hotel industry.” After leaving that resort, Espinal set out to conquer the globe. Besides New York and Florida, he has worked in Italy, the Caribbean, Chile, Argentina and California. He also speaks five languages. He says working abroad has opened his mind and allowed him to adopt a global mindset. Espinal's colleagues agree. “He’s very passionate about what he does,” says Karin Kopano, a former co-worker who is now general manager of the Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel. "He loves creativity and how he can incorporate that into what he does. He goes above and beyond and that makes people happy.” As a teenager, Espinal was enthralled with the circus. He was very athletic, which allowed him to attend circus school and practice with the acrobats. An injury forced him to search for a new career, but he still uses those principles in his everyday life. Like an entertainer performing a complex trapeze act, for Espinal life is about consistency, balance and working well under pressure. “You’ve got the lights on top of you and the whole world is watching,” he says. “You always have to be ready for that moment. You never know when the spotlight is coming at you.” Carlos Mayorga is a multimedia lifestyle journalist who targets multicultural audiences. The Power of Contribution: Milagros Day The Milagros Day Transformation Academy is a six month immersion coaching program based on the principles of Re-Creation, Re-Education and Responsibility where survivors of Domestic Violence have the opportunity to transform their lives while making a difference in the world. I have learned that the only way to realize your own worth is to have an impact on someone else’s life. The most complete and permanent fulfillment comes when your contribution is in alignment with your purpose. Karen Hoyos asks “If you had all the money and free time in the world, what is the one thing you would dedicate yourself to doing? ~That is your Life’s Purpose”. The answer to that question came so naturally to me. My Life’s Purpose is to: Transform the lives of women who have recently left abusive relationships by providing them with personal growth and professional development so that they can live their purpose and become a contribution to the world. Essentially, it’s a Mission Statement written by your heart. The beauty is that you don’t have to wait until you have all the money and time in the world. Ergo, Milagros Day; I started this nonprofit organization two years ago and it has been the best time of my life.
I have created a formula to illustrate the impact contribution can have on an individual or a group. Contribution+Gratitude=Abundance. Based on this formula, effort is not the main requirement to receive abundance in your life. Just give from your heart, in alignment with your purpose, genuinely appreciate what you already have, and be prepared to receive gracefully all that is bestowed upon you. ALTERNATIVAS NEW TRENDS YORK
The Austrian turned New Yorker has had his photos featured in 18 books, including those featuring celebrity chefs JosĂŠ AndrĂŠs, David Bouley, Fabio Trabocchi, Mario Lohninger and many others. The star photographer has created his own spotlight over the last two decades and has built a reputation of bringing out the best in the dishes he showcases. His clients say he has a gift for finding those intimate details and colors in food that are often overlooked by the naked eye. "With food, you can go close up and find the unexpected," Schauer says. "Maybe I can capture something that someone's not paying attention to at the moment. Later, I can show them that close up and show them something they didn't see before." Schauer moved to New York in 2001. He also has a studio in Vienna, where he travels regularly to take on projects throughout Europe. It was there, as a child growing up in a small Austrian town, that he developed his love for food. He vividly remembers venturing through his grandmother's garden, picking fresh, colorful vegetables, then cooking with his father to create elaborate family meals. "When you grow up in Europe you get so involved with food," says the famed photographer. "We didn't have this fast food stuff. It was always family cooking. You have to know every vegetable and how it grows." He still sees cuisine the same way today. On a recent Friday afternoon inside his Financial District studio, Schauer spent considerable time taking close-up photos of a simple bundle of asparagus, trying to capture the intricate details. "He has a creative eye and he gets the shot he needs," says Galen Zamarra, owner and chef of MAS Farmhouse, a French American restaurant in Greenwich Village. Zamarra and other past clients say Schauer's talent exceeds all others. The photographer has an instinctive ability to analyze a dish and pinpoint that one element that is interesting and profound. From there, Schauer can close in and capture the essence of that special something with an extreme close up. "Other food photographers don't always catch something like that," Zamarra says. "He just knows how to make the food come to life on the plate." Zamarra previously worked as chef at Bouley Restaurant. The two met around seven years ago when Schauer began working on the food book East of Paris, which features the work of the famed Chef David Bouley. Shortly afterword, Zamarra opened MAS Farmhouse, and asked Schauer to serve as his exclusive photographer. Planning for a photo shoot is a process that requires extensive planning and constant preparation. Schauer meets with the client beforehand and encourages the chef to feature the dishes he or she enjoys the most. Then, the plates are photographed in different ways. The day of the shoot can be long. Getting the right shot requires a lot of patience. "Sometimes you have to make a dish several times just to get the right shot," Zamarra says. "Either the steam disappears, something wilts on the plate or there's just something that's not right. He spends all day trying to capture each dish at the right moment. That's what sets him apart from other food photographers." So what's his secret? One element that distinguishes him from other photographers is his insistence on acquiring the most advanced, state-of-the-art equipWWW.MYLIFESTYLENY.COM | 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION
ment. He's currently the only known photographer in the United States who uses the large PhaseOne IQ180 camera back, which he uses with Hasselblad 555 and Sinar cameras. The combination of top quality equipment allows him to bring out the find details in food. Another key requirement to a spectacular photograph is having the instinct capability to find the right angles and light, skills that Schauer says took him 15 years to develop and perfect.
"When you grow up in Europe you get so involved with food," says the famed photographer. "We didn't have this fast food stuff. It was always family cooking. You have to know every vegetable and how it grows." "Lighting is the key element," he says of taking a quality photograph. "You can have the best camera, but the photo won't work if you don't have the right light." Schauer's successful career has propelled him to do the two things he loves the most - using a camera to capture bits and pieces of life and to travel the globe. And it's not just about the edibles - Schauer is often hired to photograph architecture, interiors, travel and portraits. His work has been featured in People Magazine, among others. In the future, he has plans to do a another book with Chef Daniel Boulud, this time for Daniel, a threestar Michelin-rated restaurant. In the meantime, chefs and culinary experts continue to praise him for his exceptional work. "Thomas is indeed at the top of his field," writes Bill Yosses, pastry chef at the White House. "Even more than that, I would say he is an original and unique in his style, lighting, composition, and the ineffable quality of photography to capture and improve an image and that kind of art is an inspiration that speaks to the highest of human aspirations."

Jason Graciano
This successful Latino talks with MY Lifestyle Magazine
PHOTOGRAPHY BY WILLIAM GOMEZ
By Andrés Gonzalez
Jason Graciano, born and raised in Jackson Heights, N.Y., is a great example and an inspiration for young men and women looking to better their lives and move up the ladder of success. Graciano is currently the sales manager for Paragon Honda in Woodside, Queens, where he has been for just under eight years. In that time, he's seen a tremendous growth in his sales and in his personal life. We sat down with Jason to give readers a personal look at what drives him and how he stays motivated. He grew up on 94th Street and 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights, an area that had its share of crime and inner city problems at the time, including a high crime rate and an influx of drugs. "It was more uncommon to go a day or two without hearing a siren or seeing a police car stopped at a corner frisking someone," Graciano says. From a young age, this young Latino businessman learned how to interact with people with different beliefs and backgrounds. He attributes his strong character and firm beliefs to his mother and father, who ran a pretty strict household based on a foundation of hard work and doing good. Graciano learned the importance of hard work firsthand by involving himself in the daily activities of the family business, a restaurant called Charo on 37th Avenue in the Corona section of Queens. The restaurant has been opened for more than 20 years. It was there he learned important business attributes like discipline to work long hours, paying attention to details with customers, how to manage himself and others, and finally how to deal with adversity and the ups and downs of business. He would go on to move up the ladder into what his passion has always been - sales. Graciano has not only sold Honda vehicles, but also Cutco knives back when he was putting himself through Queensborough Community College, where he learned the importance of referrals. He then went on to become as licensed real estate agent and did mortgages in addition to selling life and health insurance while attending Baruch College. But it was when he started at Paragon Honda that Graciano found a home. At the early age of 20, he realized the WWW.MYLIFESTYLENY.COM | 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION
incredible opportunities that existed there. He continued his journey of personal growth by attending a number of seminars and a desire to continually educated himself in his field. The seminars and reading books on personal development are what keeps him sharp and gives him an edge, he says. Being one of the youngest managers ever promoted in the company, the spotlight shifted to Graciano to perform. And perform is exactly what he did. He built the strongest and dominant sales team at Paragon Honda, known as number one certified Honda dealership in the world, according to the dealership's website. Standing out at the top Honda dealership is no easy task, so how does he stay ahead of the game? He says that it's constant training and development of the people that work around him. "There is no monetary compensation that can replace the incredible feeling I get when I have a salesperson make it and they come to me with the greatest feeling of gratitude and appreciation," says Graciano, whose main goal is to develop the men and women he works with, ultimately adding value to their positions. When asked if there was anyone who inspired him, without thinking about it he replied, "Brian Benstock!”; Vice President and General Manager of Paragon Honda and Acura in New York City, “He has been my biggest motivator, the one who believed in me, the person who gave me a chance to show what I've got. He has taught me so much and has dedicated so much time and effort in my growing within the company and as a person." It's obvious that Benstock has made a huge impact in this young man's life and continues that legacy with the people around him. Graciano is just getting started and there is so much more to this young Latino businessman. For sure, it seems there will be many more opportunities for exponential growth for him from here on out. The Marvelous Meatpacking District
Take a tour through this flashy district that seems to have it all The Meatpacking District has quickly evolved as the locale in New York City where fashion, fine cuisine and trendy nightlife connect. After hearing all the buzz surrounding the area, I decided to check it out for myself on a recent afternoon to really get a feel of what this destination has to offer.
Article and Photography by Carlos Mayorga
Although I had previously toured the Standard Hotel and the exclusive Soho House, I really hadn't ventured into the many stylish shops and overflowing restaurants that line the cobblestone streets the area is known for. I began my walk through the neighborhood at Valbella Ristorante on West 13th Street. “We are seeing a revolution that we’ve never seen before,” says David Ghatan, manager at the restaurant. Valbella has been opened for six years and features Northern Italian cuisine. Ghatan says the area began a transition when business owners willing to take a risk started setting up shop several years ago. They invested a lot of time, money and energy and it is continuing to pay off even today. “This area was for meat packing,” the restaurateur adds. “Now everywhere you go, you see a restaurant and it’s becoming a well-known fashion place in the city.” The Meatpacking District was home to hundreds of meat packing plants at the beginning of the 1900s. When those businesses started disappearing several decades later, in came drugs, prostitution and crime. But the WWW.MYLIFESTYLENY.COM | 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION
area is in a prime waterfront location and is sandwiched between Chelsea and Greenwich Village. The downfall of the area didn't last very long. After leaving Valbella, I ran into Lauren Pagz and Jowita Kurowski, two ladies who definitely know how to make a statement with fashion. On this day, they were on the hunt for some innovative designs. “We’re out on the streets scouting for styles,” Pagz says. “It’s pretty trendy. It’s become a little bit more commercial now that they built the Sephora and all these hotels around here, but it’s still kind of low key.” When I asked the two why they frequent the Meatpacking, the answer was simple – it’s much easier to take a leisurely stroll here than in midtown or SoHo. Besides the nearby High Line elevated walkway, there is not too much of a tourist presence on most days, they say. Down the street at the chic clothing store All Saints Spitalfields, I fell in love with a few pairs of shoes and had to fight my temptation to take out my wallet. After leaving empty handed, I ran into Laura Love, who works at the nearby Sea Restaurant on Washington Street. “Once the clock strikes twelve it’s party time,” she says of the elabo-

The 1.45-mile long structure features gardens and greenery, and has been a magnet for locals and tourists ever since it opened. It was there I ran into Michael Mazzone, 23, and Andrew Levine. Both had varying opinions on the dramatic changes going on in the Meatpacking. "I like the changes because it's making it a bit more cultural and there are more things to do besides the fashion boutiques and the va-
cant buildings," says Levine, 26, whose grandfather worked in one of area’s meat plants several years ago. Mazzone, who lives in New Jersey, says he feels welcome in the neighborhood, but is watching closely to make sure it doesn’t change too much. "I want it to keep some of its old charm because I feel it's developing too fast," Mazzone says. "I appreciate they kept the High Line and didn't just take it down and sell the property." After wrapping up my trek, I realized that everyone has a different reason for visiting the Meatpacking District and all leave with different experiences. But ask anyone who frequents the neighborhood and most tell you the same thing - the best is yet to come.

Por Carlos Anaya • Entervista Esclusiva Para MY Lifestyle Magazine
"U

The New York International Latino Film Festival is one of the biggest and most exciting Festivals today. Since 1999, NYILFF has been showcasing the works of the hottest emerging Latino filmmaking talent in the U.S. and Latin America. It's now the premier Urban Latino Film event in the country! And since we now know from the 2010 Census, Hispanic/Latino Americans will be approximately 50 million strong. Host, Elizabeth Ortiz, of En La Escena, talked with CNN's reporter/ correspondent Soledad O' Brien who is of Cuban descent and was once told when she first began her career, that she change her full name, which means, "The Blessed Virgin Mary of Solitude", for television viewers but she refused, featured her documentary IN HER CORNER: LATINOS in AMERICA 2. A story about Marlen Esparza has ambitions of becoming an Olympic boxer since female boxing is now an Olympic sport. She is smart enough to get full scholarships to top colleges but postponed to follow her dreams. In addition, The HBO Presents, NYILFF Discussion Panel, Through Her Eyes: A Latina’s Perspective in the Media, Soledad O’Brien; along with SAG members Olga Segura, producer and star of White Knight, and Olga Merediz, In The Heights, Law & Order, Fugly; producer and publicist Soldanela Rivera; scholar Dr. Clara Rodriguez from Fordham University, discussed the role of Latinas in the media, how Latina actresses are taking on leading roles in prime time television, films, and magazine covers, the portrayal of Hispanic women has come a long way in the last decade. Another panel discussion…was Hollywood luminary and cultural icon Andy Garcia. Executive producer of his film “Magic City Memoirs” also premiered at the 2011 NYILFF. Andy Garcia knows a thing or two of Latino characters in film and television. He got his big break as a gang member on TV’s “Hill Street Blues”. He discussed how being Latino has played a role in his journey to success, and imparts advice for all of the actors, filmmakers and dreamers looking to leave their creative mark on the world. Mr. Garcia was presented with the NYILFF Impact Award, which is bestowed on artists whose body of work has influenced the community and how they are perceived. watching the first animated film in NYILFF’s history. CHICO & RITA. A sensual collision of vibrant colors, passionate storytelling and music from the greatest period of creativity in Cuban-American jazz history. Chico is a young piano player with big dreams. Rita is a beautiful singer with an extraordinary voice. From Havana to New York, Paris, Hollywood and Las Vegas, two passionate individuals battle impossible odds to unite in music and love. Along with the Puerto Rican Showcase Film, “America”, directed by Sonia Fritz. The story line starts with their daughter running away; America's abusive lover unleashes his rage against her because of this and America escapes to New York City hoping for a new life. There she works as a nanny for a wealthy family. She befriends three nannies -- a Mexican, a Colombian and a Dominican --and with their help, as well as support from relatives in the Bronx, America is determined to bring her daughter back to her. But as she dares to dream of a life without violence, reality hits. A Domestic Feature “CARMEN G”, directed by Hernan Herrera, a single-mother Carmen crosses the U.S.-Mexican border; it is part of a valiant effort to save her baby Mateo, from the violence and desperation of her native Colombia. On her first terrifying night in New York City her son is kidnapped, never to be seen again. Thirty years later, Carmen loses her job as a live-in maid -- and then is diagnosed with breast cancer. With no one to turn to, she fears for the worst…until she finds herself being cared for by a generous and kind 30- year old doctor named Mateo. NYILFF continues to offer expansive images of the Latino experience, and celebrate the diversity and spirit of the rapidly growing Latino Community.

2012 Koenigsegg Agera R The Koenigsegg Agera R is a mid-engined supercar made by Swedish car manufacturer Koenigsegg as of 2011. The 'R' is in essence a special edition Agera, which runs on biofuel, rather than petrol. The car made its debut at the March 2011 Geneva Motor Show — with a ‘Speed Racer' livery theme, special Michelin tires and a Thule Roof Box — although its existence as a production car was already announced prior to this. The Agera R can accelerate from 0–62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.9 seconds and reach a theoretical top speed of approximately 275 mph (442.569 km/h), making it faster than a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, although this has not been officially verified. On September 2 during test sessions in Ängelholm the Agera R broke six world land speed records for a production car, including 0-300 km/h (0–186.4 mph) in 14.53 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 14.6 seconds set by the Bugatti Veyron.
