S AT U R D A Y I S S A U N A D AY! ELECTRIC, WOOD-FIRE OR SMOKE SAUNA? Finnish people have been enjoying saunas already for thousands of years. In saunas, they have cried, laughed, given birth and loved. The heat of the steam has been a great background for difficult conversation topics, enjoyable silence, and making sure that the sauna elf gets the last steam. For Finns, Saturday is still sauna day. On Saturdays, enjoy a proper steam sauna, and relax from a week’s work. Rent a sauna, bring a towel and sauna drinks, and enjoy a traditionally Finnish sauna evening.   www.visitlahti.fi/en

S M A LL B R EW ER I ES U N ITE Here you can best quench your thirst with lemonades, beers, ciders and home-brewed beers made by the local small breweries. FARMBREWERY HOLLOLAN HIRVI makes its famous Kivisahti home-brewed beer plus an additional thirteen different beers.Its most popular beers include a Scottish-style ale that tastes strongly of hops and juniper, and a pilsner called PeuraPils that has been made from organic barley malt. VINEYARD PIHAMAA makes wines from the farm’s own berries, while Pihamaa Brewery focuses on making beer and cider. All the grains used in the manufacturing processes are from Finland, some of them from the farm’s own fields. The latest addition to the local brewery genre is KANAVAN PANIMO. Sulku Pils, Unto Porter and Toivo Red Ale are the first beers made by Kanavan Panimo. They have been made using local ingredients: the malts come from Viking Malt in Lahti and rolled oats by Vääksy Mill are used to flavour the pilsner.
BREWERY PANIMO PAJA was created based on the need to create handmade beer. The brewery makes traditional lagers from light to dark and top fermentation yeast beers from ales to stouts plus seasonal products based on the seasons or specific events. BREWERY PANIMOINEN & LEMMES has created a dry apple cider in cooperation with the Lepaa Vineyard of the Häme University of Applied Sciences. The cider, called Hämeen Hitain, tastes so good because it has been made solely from Finnish apples. The brewery aims at making its products from local ingredients whenever possible. TEERENPELI BREWERY & DISTILLERY has been making unique bottom and top fermentation yeast beers and ciders seasoned with actual berries for more than twenty years. The brewery makes beers and ciders suitable for all seasons and seasonal beverages.

1. PÄTIÄLÄ MANOR {sleep
tight in l ahti region}
SWEET DR EAM S! In the Lahti region, you can choose how to spend your nights. Will you be staying at an urban city hotel, a 2-person tent, a granny cabin or a luxurious manor, or would you rather enjoy your morning coffee on the shores of Lake Päijänne? HOTELLI TELTTA is a small adventurous 11-tent hotel at Kehräämö, Orimattila. The 2-person tents have been built for hotel purposes, with thermal insulation and ventilation. In addition to the tents, there is also a spacious 4-person room in the hotel, with its own infrared sauna. www.hotelliteltta.fi LINNAHOTELLI is an atmospheric and cosy country-style hotel in Hartola. In addition to the nice atmosphere and comfortable rooms, the hotel also offers fresh local and organic food. The hotel also has sauna facilities and a wellness centre. www.linnahotelli.fi/en
1. PÄTIÄLÄ MANSION, located in Asikkala offers cosy wooden cottages and log villas that are individually decorated and are situated along a 5-km stretch of Lake Päijänne coastline. Each cottage has a private courtyard, beach and sauna, terrace, modern kitchen, bathroom and fireplace. Pätiälänkartanon lomamökit
PIKKUTALO in Orimattila has a room for 1–4 persons, a double bed in the loft and a sofa bed in the living area. Next to the house there are good fairgrounds.

2. GUESTHOUSE LITTLE TUNDRA provides unique accommodation for those fed up with traditional hotels. Situated in a historical building at the heart of Lahti, near the railway station, the mini hotel can accommodate 9 guests. The interior design does not follow one particular style, but each room has its own theme. www.littletundra.fi
NONNA´S HOUSE BED AND BREAKFAST is designed by the architect Unto Ojonen and built by the clothing manufacturer Evald Virtanen for his family in the 1950s. The house is surrounded by the unique Nikko Forest Park, that is a treasure trove of many fascinating stories. B&B NEULOMOTIE offers comfortable and inexpensive accommodation – with or without breakfast. Pets are welcome to stay the night at Neulomotie. HOIMELAN FARMSTEAD is an idyllic farmstead on the shores of Lake Päijänne. Built in the 1920s, this farmstead offers personalised accommodation in cabins and in the main building. Guests have access to a wood-fire sauna,

the sauna beach is a shallow sand beach, and it is also possible to use a rowboat. 3. TÖYRYLÄN MANOR HOTEL is a luxurious accommodation, celebration and conference venue at Artjärvi. The manor has been restored in all guest rooms and meeting rooms with respect, and it is true to the original atmosphere of a country manor. www.toyrylankartano.fi
VILLA EBBA is a cute pink granny cabin in the middle of a rural landscape. Fully renovated in 2014, this timber cabin originates from 1965. There is a wood-fire hot tub on an undercover terrace, which can be heated for guests also in winter. There are skating and traditional skiing tracks that are located right next to the cabin. www.tervalepikontorpat.fi/en
