This summer marks ten years at Tyreel Stud for Linda and Laurence Monds, and the list of great racehorses they have produced in that time is extensive. From their recent Magic Millions Gold Coast drafts alone, they have sold Gr1 winner Montefilia, Gr2 winner Every Rose, Gr3 winners Olentia, Perfect Thought, Parry Sound, and Listed winners Snickerdoodledandy, Wild Vixen, and Paret. Given the average size of their Magic Millions Gold Coast drafts is around six yearlings, in percentage terms, these results are spectacular, and that’s not even taking into account the good horses they’d sold through other sales.

“In February 2024 it will be ten years since we purchased Tyreel Stud and started planning the business model we wanted to achieve,” said Linda Monds. “We started with zero broodmares ten years ago and a farm that was in need of a refurbishment, such as fencing, shedding, roadways, waterway reconstruction, paddock rejuvenation, basically a complete overhaul. For the last nine years we have had a major project to contend with each year. The farm has never looked better, and we are so incredibly proud of the journey we have had, the team we have beside us, the broodmares that reside here, the foals we are producing and the yearlings we are presenting, but above all we are continually rewarded by the constant presence of Tyreel bred, raised and sold athletes’ on-track performance.”

In 2024, Tyreel will present ten yearlings at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The first foal of Snit Ball (Snitzel) who is a full sister to two year-old Gr1 winner Summer Passage, is Lot 207, a colt by proven Gr1 sire Capitalist. “A well-proportioned colt exuding a racy build, characterized by substantial girth and a powerful hindquarter, he is a true Magic Millions prospect,” said Tyreel Stud Manager Alex Barlow.

A Snitzel filly, Lot 664, from stakes placed city winner of five races, Festival Miss (Bernardini) comes from the family of Gr1 winners Regal Power, and Arcadia Queen. “An exceptional filly, endowed with inherent strength and power. She exhibits the traits of a promising two year-old, combining keen intelligence with abundant quality.”

Proven sire Exceed and Excel continues to leave quality juveniles who train on, and his filly, Lot 767, is the first foal of Listed winner I Am Eloquent (I Am Invincible). Her second dam is also a stakes winner, Choice Words (Choisir). “From day one, this filly has left us impressed and excited. She maintains a balanced physique, a lively walk, complemented by a pleasing shoulder and girth – one to keep a close eye on.”

Two colts by Anamoe’s sire Street Boss come highly credentialled. Lot 440 is the first foal of Aqua d’Ivina (Pierro) who won five races (four in the city) and is a full sister to stakes winner Parry Sound (Pierro), both being out of Gr.1 winner Aqua d’Amore (Danehill). “This sharp colt embodies natural muscle, an excellent physique, and has promising two year-old potential.” Lot 738 is the second foal of Happenings (Exceed and Excel), an unraced daughter of Listed winner Happy Hippy (Shamardal) and this colt’s dam is also a half-sister to two stakes placed winners. “A swift and robust colt, displaying a well-developed hip and hindquarter. He possesses extensive scope, embodying the attributes of a nimble racehorse.”

All Too Hard continues to shine as a stallion, and his colt, Lot 398, is the second foal of winning mare Adagirl (Lonhro) who is a daughter of Gr2 winner Adaline. “He presents as a robust colt boasting a well-defined physique. His graceful movements allow him to cover the ground with ease. This colt possesses a lovely temperament, showcasing his quality and commanding presence.”

Four yearlings by first season sires add excitement to Tyreel’s draft with two by Gr1 Golden Rose and Gr1 Caulfield Guineas winner Ole Kirk (Written Tycoon). Lot 284 is a half-brother to city winner Orpheum who ran fourth in the Gr3 Gimcrack Stakes. Their dam, Tender (All American), won three races and is from the family of Gr1 winner Kapchat. “A colt boasting quality, size and a graceful stride, with a pronounced overstep.” Lot 658 is a filly who is the second live foal of Fashion Icon who is a winning half-sister to Listed Inglis Millenium winner Espaaniyah and this is the family of Gr1 winner She’s Extreme. “An elegant filly evolving beautifully into her frame, showcasing a graceful, athletic gait that we eagerly anticipate presenting.”

Gr2 Schillaci Stakes winner Dirty Work (Written Tycoon) is represented by a colt, Lot 897, is the first foal of Gr2 placed city winner of four races, Lunar Light (Akeed Mofeed) who is a daughter of American stakes winner Lunar Mist. “This colt exhibits consistent growth week by week, showcasing remarkable quality and an attractive conformation. We’re eagerly anticipating his journey up north.”

A filly by first season sire and dual Gr1 winner King’s Legacy (Redoute’s Choice) completes the impressive Tyreel Stud draft. A half-sister to group placed winning current three year-old Veecee, Lot 798, is the third foal of Isabella (Poet’s Voice), an unraced half-sister to Listed winners Golden Pistols and Keep The Faith. “A filly of considerable size and scope, featuring ample width and a deep girth. We eagerly look forward to presenting this delightful filly.” www.tyreel.com

With ten well-credential yearlings on offer in 2024, the last decade of success at Tyreel looks set to continue into the future. “Our success is not only due to the horses we have raised and sold but also clients who have entrusted us to sell their yearlings on their behalf. We have been very fortunate to have been supported by loyal, long standing clients,” said Linda Monds.
