Bhima
from 2024 MMGC Magazine
Imperatriz, Militarize, Manzoice and Forbidden Love. Bhima’s stunning graduate record at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale should have all buyers flocking to inspect this season’s offerings. Bhima are the only vendor to have sold a Gr1 winner at four successive sales; Militarize was sold in 2022, Manzoice in 2021, Imperatriz in 2020, and Forbidden Love in 2019.
How would you sum up your 2024 draft?
“Through the whole draft we have a good range of sires and given our record, I’m sure there’s going to be some exceptional racehorses come out of it,” said Bhima’s Mike Fleming. “Someone just has to be smart enough to pick the right ones. The three by Bivouac look very sharp forward horses. Everyone is always trying to get a line on the first season sires at Magic Millions and these three look like the right sort of horses to appeal to buyers looking for early types. Our Dundeel colts are standouts, especially with the year he’s had, led by our graduate Militarize.”
Bhima’s Gr1 winning Magic Millions Gold Coast graduates are supported by Gr2 winner Four Moves Ahead, Gr3 winner, and Gr1 placed Prague, Gr3 winner Maximillius, Listed winner Rhapsody Rose, and Gr1
placed Military Expert, and all of these horses were sold from 2018 to now.
In 2024, Bhima will present 29 yearlings at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, and the stallions represented are Admire Mars, Bivouac, Blue Point, Capitalist, Deep Field, Dundeel, I Am Invincible, King’s Legacy, Lonhro, Russian Revolution, Shalaa, Snitzel, So You Think, Super Seth, Toronado and Wootton Bassett.
Siblings to group winners include Lot 477, a Capitalist half-brother to super sprinter Imperatriz out of Gr2 placed Berimbau; Lot 66 a Capitalist half-brother to Gr1 winner Stratum Star and Gr3 winner and Gr1 placed Prague; Lot 926 an I Am Invincible half-brother to Gr2 Karrakatta Plate winner Valour Road; Lot 596 a Capitalist half-brother to Gr2 winner Four Moves Ahead and Gr3 winner Emeralds; Lot 371 a Bivouac half-brother to Gr2 winner Kemalpasa; and Lot 28 a Wootton Basset half-sister to Gr3 winner Naranco. What makes the Magic Millions sales and races special?
“It’s the first sale of the year, where everyone heads to get the first bite of the money. Magic Millions do a great job of putting on a strong, diverse buying bench, and if your horse is physically ready to be up early, it’s the best place for them to be. This sale gets your horse in front of the buyers who will give them the best chance to be a great racehorse.”
Bhima are the only vendor to have sold a Gr1 winner at four successive sales; Militarize was sold in 2022, Manzoice in 2021, Imperatriz in 2020, and Forbidden Love in 2019.
Bhima will present a few yearlings whose dams were outstanding racemares including a King’s Legacy colt, Lot 307 who is the first foal of Gr1 winner Toffee Tongue, a full sister to Hong Kong Horse of the Year Werther and to Gr3 winner Gobstopper. Blue Point filly, Lot 105, is out of Gr3 winner Rocket Commander whose first two foals are winners; while So You Think filly, Lot 956, is out of Gr3 winner Miss Promiscuity whose first two foals are winners; and Toronado filly, Lot 525, is out of Gr3 winner China Star. Who are the most influential people in the industry today?
“I have to give a shout out to Vicky Leonard,” said Fleming. “What she’s done with Kick Collective and Kick Up
is outstanding. She’s been influential with our transparency on how we sell our yearlings by giving buyers all the information they require. Buyers know exactly what product they are buying – rearing, raising, prepping and on which land and with which people. We were one of the first people who sat down with her when she looked to branch out on her own, and the way she’s progressed her own company, and the way she’s supporting the industry as a whole with Kick Up is really valuable. Don’t underestimate her.”
Which app on your phone do you use the most?
“Ardex, especially in the breeding season.”
Bhima’s record as producers of Gr1 winners stands above other farms, and if the past is any indication of the future, there is bound to be another Gr1 winner among their 29 strong draft for the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
