It always gets to this time of the year and I wonder where on earth the months have gone, yet still it manages to catch me by surprise. The closing of the year brings with it reflection over the past twelve months and of course hopes, dreams and plans for the next. As an editor, one of the most rewarding things is having brides get in touch and tell me how valuable they’ve found Magnolia Rouge in their wedding planning journey, and being able to feature their beautiful wedding on the blog and see the result of all the planning is a big part of why I love what I do. Another as you know, is my love of photography and this issue once again sees us feature some incredibly talented artists. We have an array of real weddings from a grand affair at an incredible venue in Gloucestershire, England, to an elegant French inspired soiree at beautiful Deux Belettes in Byron Bay, Australia and a laid back outdoor party in New Zealand. I’m so thankful for the amazing Brumley & Wells who together with an incredible team of creatives and helping hands masterminded the stunning cover shoot on the Big Sur coastline. There is so much work that goes into editorial shoots behind the scenes and this one took considerable effort - a combined 8km of walking in and out dragging one extremely heavy table and props. But the result as you can see is most definitely worth it and I’m eternally thankful at having such beauty to work with!

Lapidaire: an artist or artisan who forms stone, minerals, or gemstones into decorative items

He is a fierce and mighty torrent. His waves and his winds carve and sculpt the edges of the earth in a brooding and tireless mess of time and stone. He is the sea, relentless and determined in his love. And somehow, without thought, without practice, and without knowing how or why, he cuts and shapes every stone in his path into masterful works that send us racing to the coast to marvel at his art. And we do marvel. It is beautiful. Despite the fear that takes our breath when we sense his strength in the evening tide, we feel inspired. In that way, I guess the sea is like a young lover, clumsy and powerful, but full of heart and determined to make his love evident in the Cliffs of Moher, along the great Ocean Road, by the mountains soaring up from Milford Sound, in the white sandy beaches of the Caribbean, and on the black rocks of Big Sur. But the Lapidaire is different. Her love is quiet. Despite her youth, she is wise and patient. While the sea blows his mighty winds and claps his waves for attention, she waits calmly for the whispering breath of the muse. Her work is graceful. When the sea, in his ancient youth, pounds violently against the rock and exhales his mighty voice, she delicately clasps her gem of choice between her hands and proceeds to shape it with thought and intent. Like a master of any craft, this is how she's chosen to articulate her soul, to show the world what the muse has said when her heart was still enough to hear it. And if she bravely heeds that voice, she will cut in a moment what the sea will shape in a year. Her work will not stand high and mighty like the monuments of the sea, but it will be strong and full to the brim with the same love that moved them both to cut, to shape, to form. That's what love does.

It inspires. It forms. It whispers. It moves. It breathes.

In the wave-strike over unquiet stones the brightness bursts and bears the rose and the ring of water contracts to a cluster to one drop of azure brine that falls.

O magnolia radiance breaking in spume, magnetic voyager whose death flowers and returns, eternal, to being and nothingness: shattered brine, dazzling leap of the ocean.

Merged, you and I, my love, seal the silence while the sea destroys its continual forms, collapses its turrets of wildness and whiteness, because in the weft of those unseen garments of headlong water, and perpetual sand, we bear the sole, relentless tenderness.

Kyndra and Trevor had a special connection from the moment they met. The soulmates first became friends when Kyndra moved to Texas as a teenager, and started dating a few years later. After a sweet, intimate proposal, they started planning a natural wedding that was as romantic as it was down to earth, and became a labour of love for the couple and their families. Photographer Marion Heurtebourst (whose work the bride had admired for some time) and videographer Pascal DĂŠlĂŠ flew in especially from France to document the big day.

The Proposal

"We had been dating for about four years. We knew we were soul mates from the first day. Trevor was about to transfer to a another city to finish up college and asked me to go with him. Of course I said yes. He planned a little weekend getaway for the two of us before our big move. He took us to San Antonio to stay right on the river walk which was so beautiful and sweet. We had of course talked about marriage but I had no idea it would be this weekend he'd ask. The first night he took me on a sweet boat ride dinner and we walked around, talking about our new adventure. The next morning, I woke up, opened my eyes, saw the ring and heard him behind me say "marry me?" It was exactly how I could have dreamt a proposal. Just the two of us, cozied up. It was the most magical morning of my life. Looking at this person who I have literally been in love with forever. He wants to spend the rest of his life with me. Wow."

"Make sure the day represents the two of you. Every single detail of our wedding was us. It was our dream come true."

"My mom is an amazing woman. She loves to find treasure in antique stores, etc. Every day for a year and a half she would stop somewhere to find another piece of magic to add to the day. My parents' house was filled with old treasures she found and saved just for me."

Tatum and Fletcher may be childhood sweethearts, but it was almost ten years from their first date that Fletcher knelt down among the rock pools on Moreton Island and asked Tatum to be his bride. And marry him she did, in a dreamy lace Pallas Couture dress. While it rained all day, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the couple or their guests, who celebrated long into the night, and saw them off in a shower of sparklers and good wishes.

45

47

“Always remember what the day is really about. I was marrying my soulmate and best friend, and that was what was most important.

“It absolutely poured on our wedding day. It made the atmosphere really intimate, intense and wild-spirited. For the ceremony, we had to gather in a stone archway that had been hand built by the owners of Deux Belettes, with a giant chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The wind whipped through - it was beautiful! After the ceremony the rain eased and an incredible mist settled over the valley. It was pure magic.

50

“I love very classic looks. Clean lines, French influences. I adore flowers and wanted a ton of them! With the incredible Deux Belettes as our backdrop, we didn’t want to tamper with it too much, but included lots of beautiful nude and blush tones in the floral arrangements, candlelight, twinkling chandeliers and stationery.”

With a colour palette and aesthetic inspired by the 1980s French movie Manon des Sources the natural, unkempt beauty in this editorial is what sets it apart. Highlighting a connction with nature and the outdoors, the model is a little wild, a little unpolished, but her beauty shines through regardless.

There was magic in the air the night that Salil and Jennifer met at a birthday party. The shy pair felt an instant connection, but not a word passed between them that evening. “I was drawn to the tall, well-dressed, handsome guy and he was enamored by what he calls ‘the hot girl in the hot pink sweater!’ Jennifer laughs. After a mutual friend made the introductions, their fairytale began in earnest, eventually leading to an epic proposal which included a string quartet, a horse and a knife thrower! Their beautiful wedding in the grounds of Lakewold Gardens captured all the romance and enchantment of their love, and was a fitting way to start their lives together.

63

65

“We really wanted our wedding to feel a little enchanted and magical.”

“We wanted muted, subtle colours for our florals, with English roses as the main flowers. Mckenzie Powell, our florist and designer, added texture and other beautiful elements - I loved that she included figs!”

Rey loves to surprise his bride, and his marriage proposal was no exception. In fact, Mel thought his avoidance of the topic was a sign that a proposal was a long way off, and was caught completely off guard when Rey dropped to one knee on a homemade aisle of candles and rose petals. "It was definitely his best and most memorable surprise yet!" she says. The couple opted to wed in an intimate ceremony under a tree in parkland near Adelaide, a city close to both their hearts.

83

"Our wedding felt blessed, perfect and full of love. Somehow every single piece of the puzzle fell into place on the day."

"We were still looking at venue options when our photographer, Mark Dohring, suggested Blackwood Park and we immediately fell in love with the place. We've always loved discovering hidden gems, from restaurants to trinket shops, so finding a ceremony spot in this secluded, unique place was amazing."

85

"The car ride to the venue was one of our favourite memories. The morning had started out being so hectic, and the hours just seemed to fly by, so being able to have some alone time together before the ceremony allowed us to savour the moment and let it sink in that we were getting married that day!"

Inspired by the exquisite antique botanical prints from Redoute and the overgrown vines, Sax Romney and Martha Hatfield Design created a beautiful romantic backdrop for a stunning couple. We wanted to mesh the wild and untamed side with the delicate lace in the Paolo Sebastian gown worn by the bride and the bridesmaids as well as the unique headpieces from Danani. Stunning bell vases and linen textured plates complemented the delicate stationery and penmanship of Wildfield Paper Co.

In a scene straight from a Hollywood romcom, Emma and Anthony were engaged on a hill overlooking San Francisco, where the groomto-be had set up a table with In-N-Out burgers as a nod to their first date. The wedding itself was just as intimate and fun, but with a chic elegance, reflected in the palette of neutrals and dusty pink with organic elements such as florals and wood.

103

"I fell in love with Sarah Seven's collection. My particular dress was made of silk georgette, had beautiful gold stitching detail on the top, and fell on the floor in a long, elegant train - I knew when I slipped it on that my search was over."

104

105

"Before our first look, we exchanged letters - mine was a note I'd written to my future husband when I was ten years old. It brought Anthony to tears, and when I found out I blurted out: 'He's crying already?'"

107

108

"We don't take ourselves too seriously, and wanted to add a silly element to our sentimental ceremony. So our first act as a married couple was to take our first selfie as Mr and Mrs. Now we have an incredible photograph of us with goofy smiles on our faces and friends and family laughing and smiling in the background."

Some things are written in the stars, and when American Helene met New Zealander Keri in London, everything was aligned for a love greater than the ocean that separates their homelands. The couple chose breathataking Opoutere for their free spirited outdoor wedding, with the scenery painting the perfect backdrop to the relaxed rustic style that perfectly reflected the couple's personalities.

From 'I will' to 'I do', Shannon and Lane's wedding journey was one that focused on the close bonds of their loving families. The groom proposed on a family Thanksgiving holiday in North Carolina, and six months later, they exchanged vows nearby, in an intimate ceremony and reception that honoured their near and dear.

131

"Seeing Lane get emotional during his vows really showed me how much that moment and the union between the two of us meant to him. I've never felt so loved. "

"I asked my florist to design a very natural bouquet of garden roses, peonies and daisies. For Clemmie and Prem, doctors who met at medical school, it was important to represent both their cultures on their wedding day. They chose Sezincote as their venue, which perfectly combined an exquisite Cotswold setting with tropical gardens and majestic mogul style. From English lavender place settings and damson gin for the toasts, to a tikka-inspired headpiece and a Bollywood dance troupe, English country traditions meshed beautifully with Indian ones, reflecting the joining of two lives and families. "We had a June wedding so all of our favourite English country garden flowers were in season - beautiful coral peonies, blue hydrangeas and pale peach roses. The flowers were placed in aged terracotta pots, on large antique candelabras, or in simple vintage bottles and jars wrapped with ribbon and lace. When I walked into the marquee, it took my breath away."

146

149

My dress was relaxed, beautiful, almost magical... made of the softest silk with a simple trim of French lace. The ceremony itself was the highlight for us both. It took place in the Orangery, surrounded by jasmine, Indian lanterns and frescoes. It was a beautiful summer day so one side was completely open and it felt like we were outside.
