JNBY for fashion JNBY in Merivale has just celebrated

I

the new arrival of their exclusive autumn lines Restructure and Hermit which represent the chicness of deconstructed style.

nspired by the 70s designer Vivienne Westwood, this punk spirit line has been adapted to manipulate different materials in order to form, shape and restructure the lines and silhouette of each clothing item to create uniqueness and ingenuity. The rich textures on the exquisite materials, such as fine wool, chiffon, linen and more represent the autumn line titled Hermit. Inspired by the artist Georgia O’Keeffe who has always been individualistic and independent, this collection is profoundly practical and has the freedom for movement. It has abandoned “popular” fashion culture, but focused on simple silhouettes and minimalistic approach on rich textures of black, grey and white. Natural wardrobe pieces make you feel comfortable, yet beautiful as you relish in the excellent craftsmanship woven into each piece designed to last and make you look your best. Hues of rich colour offer comfort in the woolen knitwear choices, which are reasonably priced in addition to the extensive range of everyday slacks or skirts to complement your professional life or event-filled calendar. Primarily greys and blacks, with eggplant, marsala and royal blue added for a more dramatic fact. JNBY

offers an array of choices to move into autumn, as well as to hold onto the lazy days of summer and vibrancy. Comfy, yet chic looking sweaters, coats and long-sleeved shirts provide options for the cool days looming in the near future. JNBY wants women to “just naturally be yourself” as you select your wardrobe. Stop by and view their chic autumn line on Papanui. While you’re there, check out JNBY’s wide range of warm jackets, merino knitwear, and all the newest arrivals which are reasonably priced. Check out JNBY’s website at www.jnby.co.nz for a first look preview, and then stop by their store located at 205 Papanui Road, in Merivale, where you’ll have fun shopping. Staying fashionably warm is all about sheik autumn fashion.

Whats NeW for autumN & WiNter ... from Kim Taylor —Viva La Moda

Fashion Trends For Winter Ready or not, fashion stores are displaying their Winter ranges! So what is ‘in’ for the coming season? Once again there is a lot of variety on offer so no matter what your taste, there will be something to excite you! The ever popular black and white colour combination remains strong and features strongly in patterned fabrics like checks, tartans and plaids. Fur is as popular as ever, both as a trim on coats, jackets and knitwear and as full fur (mainly faux fur) coats and vests. Capes, wraps and ponchos are huge for the season and offer a stylish alternative to a coat on the cold days that are sure to come. Knitwear pieces are another strong trend and are offered both in cropped lengths and oversize pieces. 50’s style featured strongly on the catwalks of Europe with cropped cardies, classic suit jackets, often with wider squared off shoulders, and flared skirts or pleat trousers finishing the look. There is a trend towards masculine inspired styling this season – think suit pants and jackets. A new up and coming style pant is flared and cropped to show off the ankle boots, with some almost cullotte like styles. This trend won’t appeal to everyone however, and may take some time to filter into the wardrobes of most Kiwi women who love their

slimmer fitting pants. The new midi length in pencil skirts and dresses is sure to be popular however, and is a look adopted as a firm favourite by designers such as Victoria Beckham. Even ‘Punk Rock’ styling featured in the catwalk collections in Europe and will appear in our market as zip, leather and stud trims. Leather remains as popular as ever with many faux leather options as well. There is no one clear winner in the trends for the upcoming season so experiment with the styles available in stores and choose only pieces that you feel comfortable in and will work with your lifestyle and current wardrobe. Viva La Moda in Rolleston has an extensive range of the latest Winter looks as well as footwear, bags, jewellery and accessories to complete your new outfit. Viva La Moda is open Monday to Friday from 9.00am till 5.00pm and on Saturdays from 10.00am till 4.00pm.

his winter 2015 collection is anchored by her recent exploration to Oman and Zanzibar. “Exotic travel exposes you to new ways of seeing colour,” says Jane. From Oman, Jane’s colour inspiration came from the contrast of

Zanzibar revealed brilliantly coloured spices, and elaborate costumes of Princess Salme, an Arabian Princess, to provide a catalyst for some of her designs. hen you work with Ingrid, you choose from a range of fabrics which are exclusive to her, so you know that the outfit she creates for you is unique. She starts with an initial design concept, helps you make your choice from a selection of beautiful textiles, then makes a toile for your first fitting. Garments are then individually custom-made and styled in-house for you. Customers can order from her gorgeous off-the-peg designs which are then tailored to fit, but Ingrid is especially renowned for her stunning bridal gowns. The textiles she uses include beaded, sequined, corded or plain laces, dupion silks and satins in delicate whites and ivories. Similar fabrics in stronger colours are perfect for evening and ball gowns. As well as special occasion wear, Ingrid also has practical day wear garments that bring her sense of style into daily living. There are some definite trends as we head into autumn and winter, and she is stocking plenty of warm scarves and shawls from Italy and England which are available in various stunning and funky colours. She says that while lace is still in vogue, velvet is making a come back, and some of her dresses feature glamour inspired by the 1920s. For colours, she says that autumn shades of tobacco and forest green are a strong look. Ingrid’s next show is at The Tannery on Friday April 17. Performance and style

014 was an outstanding year for Alchemy Equipment. The Christchurch-based company has continued to expand internationally, bringing their unique blend of performance and style to the rest of the world. Their range of luggage and apparel for men and women combines supreme quality with classic style, inspired by the understanding that modern lifestyles move through changing environments, and that many people require high quality, functional and stylish clothing and luggage that deliver technical performance without looking out of context in these environments. It seems this New Zealand company (founded by a former owner and creative director of Macpac) has found a global audience that share this view, with their products now found in high-end stores in Tokyo, Paris, New York, across Italy, Germany, Scandinavia and of course, New Zealand. Having exhibited successfully at trade shows in the USA and Germany, the brand has become a must-have

for many who enjoy the benefits of performance fabric, but don’t want to get around town looking like they are wearing tramping clothing. Their AEL008 Carry On bag was designed to meet the aviation industry’s guidelines, and its phenomenal versatility and practicality won it a top award (best carry-on luggage), with another of their products also nominated as best work day pack. The wining bag solves many of the problems faced by travellers – quick access to laptop, waterproof compartment for toiletries, suitcase style access and rapid change from hand-carry, shoulder carry and backpack modes. Find them at 6-7 Tannery Way, The Tannery. For more information, go to www.alchemy-equipment.com.

he Tannery has become a go-to destination, housing an eclectic mix of high-end stores. From top of the range fashion boutiques through to a florist, beauty spa, jeweller, tattooist and even an oldfashioned barber’s. The Tannery also boasts the quirkiest

yet most encompassing variety of workshops and eating places around. It is certainly the place to go for some of the best quality and most exciting and unique fashion available in Canterbury today. Housing several local designers, many with an emphasis on using local and sustainable products, shopping for durable and stylish clothing is

conveniently all under one roof. The stunning renovations of the site has made it a haven for artisans and designers, and it has become a perfect location, too, for art exhibitions, fashion shows and even corporate functions. The Tannery's opulent Victorian era atrium is a unique venue, boasting tiled floors, mahogany shopfronts, stained glass, amazing iron arches and a translucent roof. This development builds on the dreams and ambitions of the early English settlers, tapping into their confidence and values and making for a modern, productive industry on the land between the four avenues and the port. It is a unique and atmospheric location, where shoppers can lose themselves among the maze of quaint and characterful stores. Visit them at 3 Garlands Road, Woolston, or at www.thetannery.co.nz.

AUTUMN FASHION couldn’t be warmer or more chic than at Country Lane in Rangiora. Their racks are filled with gorgeous knits in a variety of styles and colours that are high fashion and high quality.

Off with

Although BLUES ARE ONE OF THE STRONGEST TRENDS for autumn and winter 2015, there is no need to suffer from the winter blues if you shop at Robe in Rangiora.

W

hile navy and blues of all shades are popular, their racks include pieces in delicate sages, beautiful soft blush pinks, dusky rose and the ever present black.

Loobie’s Story

wner Terese has returned from her buying trips with a dazzling choice of garments to keep her customers warm and on-trend this season. Ponchos and cape styles look fantastic over skinny pants and long luxurious knits such as full length cardigans for a great weekend look. She also has plenty of cosy, chunky knits in stock, which team up brilliantly with long, pleated chiffon skirts and look fabulous with the Elk brand ankle boots that are in store now. The long white shirt has made a come back but with a modern twist. “Wear it layered with a cropped jumper over skinny jeans or skirts,” she says. And another fashion return is culottes which are incredibly versatile and practical and stylish worn with ankle boots. Coats are the most important

piece in any winter wardrobe, and Terese says, “this season, we will be keeping warm with man-style winter coats.” Her standout is the long and wonderfully warm version from Sills. Other hot trends include lace in dresses and tops, a very feminine look when in rich navy. Blush pinks, warm greys, teals, along with soft winter pastels, pale aquas and winter corals highlight this season. These colours are carried through to printed shirts from Loobie’s Story, as well as jackets and faux fur vests over shirts to finish off your winter look. The wide variety of styles and labels means that there is something for everyone at Country Lane. Find them at 140 High Street, Rangiora, follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ CountryLaneFashionsRangiora. Phone 03 313 4545.

Jeans are never out of style and this season, slouchy jeans are a big look. The comfy, relaxed fit can be teamed up with sneakers for the day or stilettos and a blazer for a more formal, stylish look. Owner Rachel Hopsen says that hats are massive this season, with big floppy hats that you can throw on with any outfit, adding panache to winter warmth. They team up especially well with the new ponchos, which come in roll neck or slash neck. Ankle boots are continuing to be incredibly popular and a twist for this season is that taupe is a flattering alternative which accessorises most outfits.

He understands what men here look for in a made-to-measure suit: perfect fit, quality fabric and understated styling, although he can also cater for those who want something more unusual. The key to your wardrobe...

Kiwi women deserve fashion designed just for them, and Rachelle Varnham has created a boutique that does just that.

based pattern cutter and manufacturer. With the brand growing so fast, she has now hired an Auckland-based designer too, who will work alongside her.

With over fifteen years in retail, Rachelle has decided to listen to what her clients have been telling her and last December she opened Key Black. She sells real clothes for real women in sizes 10 to 24. Her designs are for women who find that a few curves can mean that buying clothes is a frustrating experience leading to closets full of ill-fitting and hardlyworn items.

The other range that she stocks is El Dia Que Te Quieras which translates as The Day That You Love Yourself. Based on the same philosophy as the Key Black range, they are imported from a New Zealand designer in Uruguay.

At Key Black, Rachelle and her team provide a positive shopping experience whatever your size and shape. This gorgeous shop is filled with stunning, practical clothes inside. Their own range is designed by Rachelle and provides key pieces that are the foundation for a workable and wearable wardrobe. Where possible she likes to use natural fabrics. While she has plenty of the basics available, her high fashion pieces are not bulkproduced so they are as special and unique as the wearer. Her clothes have clean cut lines and are easy to wear based on what Rachelle would want in her own wardrobe. She believes in keeping it local, using a Christchurch-

She believes that shopping for clothes should be enjoyable and the Key Black stylists encourage clients to come in for styling sessions where they can relax over their choices with a coffee and some great, impartial and honest advice so that they buy only what suits them and put together outfits and wardrobes that work. Rachelle wants her clients to leave looking great – “that’s the best advertisement for us,” she explains. Customers can even bring in existing pieces and learn how to restyle them alongside Key Black clothing, giving forgotten garments a new lease of life.

The Colombo is one of Canterbury’s elite retail establishments at the cutting edge of shopping experiences and fashion. It builds on the region’s iconic and organic character, and this season’s campaign Haze has been inspired by Christchurch’s natural strength and the beautiful nature that surrounds Canterbury. With the city still in its rebuild phase, the team behind The Colombo wanted to highlight the strength of being the Garden City of New Zealand, focusing on the importance of our landscape, Hagley Park, the Botanic Gardens, the bush, the bays, our environment and the significance that our unique scenery plays in the city’s future. Although there is still some apprehension about how Christchurch will look as it evolves, where centres will spring up and how we will live in the developing city, there is always hope. That is why The Colombo’s Autumn/ Winter campaign is emphasising their unique and important qualities. They want to celebrate Christchurch and the city’s own identity, to remember our strengths and to think about our environment. "We are encouraged to take the time to consider our climate, understand our nature, appreciate the amazing places that sit right at our fingertips and see it carried forward into the city’s rebuild," says managing director of The Colombo Caroline Cooper-Dixon. The Colombo has teamed up with film photographer Harriet Were to capture this beauty on an unexpectedly sunny day for autumn at Corsair Bay, Lyttelton. The images show strong, indpendent Christchurch young people pictured in the stunning bays surrounding the city as they model clothing available from The Colombo stores. Visit them at 363 Colombo Street to surround yourself in Haze and some of the very special ways the retailers there have been inspired by Canterbury’s nature.
