Rather than being provocative, the title, Never Walk Away, Painting’s LiSao(離騷)★, is intended to be playful. In comparison with contemporary works of art featuring multiple media, painting is regarded as old-fashioned or traditional. In this exhibition, the artists neither fight against the label of ‘old-fashioned’ or ‘traditional’ by proclaiming the immortality of painting, nor boast grandly about painting’s revolution. Instead, they adopt a rather laissez-faire posture just like the Taiwanese pop singers, Jay Chou and Soda Green, who playfully integrate ancient Chinese poems into their pop music.
