An Easter Message all the comfortable and familiar and go into the void not knowing whither He went.

The following message from Tim Keller is a wonderful overview of how the story of the Bible points to Jesus and of the salvation that was realised for us in the Easter Story. I pray it is an encouragement to you as you reflect on God’s amazing love for us over the Easter Weekend.

Jesus is the true and better Isaac who was not just offered up by His Father on the mount, but was truly sacrificed for us all while God said to Abraham, ‘Now I know you love Me because you did not withhold your son, your only son, whom you love from Me.’ Now we, at the foot of the cross can say to God, ‘Now we know You love me because You did not withhold Your Son, Your only Son whom You love, from me.’

“Jesus is the true and better Adam who passed the test in the garden, His garden – a much tougher garden, and whose obedience is imputed to us. Jesus is the true and better Abel who – though innocently slain – has blood that cries out, not for our condemnation, but for our acquittal.

Jesus is the true and better Jacob who wrestled and took the blow of justice we deserve. So we, like Jacob, only

Jesus is the true and better Abraham who answered the call of God to leave Page 1

Jesus is the true and better David whose victory becomes His people’s victory though they never lifted a stone to accomplish it themselves. Jesus is the true and better Esther who didn’t just risk losing an earthly palace but lost the ultimate heavenly one, who didn’t just risk His life but gave His life, who didn’t say, ‘If I perish, I perish,’ but said, ‘When I perish, I will perish for them, to save My people.’

receive the wounds of grace that wake us up and discipline us. Jesus is the true and better Joseph who is at the right hand of the king and forgives those who betrayed and sold him and uses his power to save them.

Jesus is the true and better Jonah who was cast out into the storm so we could be brought in. He’s the real Passover Lamb. He’s the true temple, the true prophet, the true priest, the true king, the true sacrifice, the true lamb, the true light, the true bread.”

Jesus is the true and better Moses who stands in the gap between the people and the Lord and who mediates a new covenant.

– Tim Keller

Jesus is the true and better Rock of Moses, who struck with the rod of God’s justice, now gives us water in the desert.

On the Cover On Wednesday, Kindergarten visited the Greenhills Residential Aged Care Facility to sing, read and talk with the residents.

Jesus is the true and better Job – He’s the truly innocent sufferer who then intercedes for and saves His foolish friends.

The Testimony of Thomas

Thank You

During High School TOPS last week our school captain, Thomas, testified to how God has helped him since he has been at Maitland Christian School.

Thank you to all the parents who sent in their Earn and Learn stickers last year. Our Earn and Learn supplies arrived and our primary students have been enjoying the new brightly coloured chairs and tables in the library. We also received some books and teaching resources for the library. We are grateful to Woolworths for providing these resources for our school.

Thomas has approached his responsibilities as School Captain with great confidence and diligence and we are looking forward to seeing the things he will achieve in the coming months.

Kindergarten Mission Trip to Greenhills On Wednesday, Kindergarten hopped on the school bus and travelled up to the Greenhills Residential Aged Care Facility to spend some time with the elderly residents. The residents enjoyed the company of the children and some even had a visit from their own grandchildren. Kindergarten plan to go up to visit them again next term.

Elizabeth is on Her Way to the Western Front You can tell that Elizabeth loves history because she is studying both Modern History and Ancient History while she is in Year 11 and hopes to add Extension English to it in Year 12. This love of history is about to become a wonderful adventure, as she has just been awarded the Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarship for 2016. The scholarship was awarded to 24 students throughout NSW, who will be travelling to Europe in July, along with 3 teachers and an historian. The team will be visiting the battlefields of the Western Front and learning about World War I in the very places where it occurred.

submission as “outstanding”. It’s easy to see that she will gain a lot from this amazing opportunity.

The NSW Department of Veterans Affairs called for applications for the scholarship last year and they described Elizabeth’s

We will be praying for Elizabeth as she prepares for her journey and look forward to hearing about it on her return.

Choosing HSC Maths Subjects

Swimming Stars

Next Tuesday, Elizabeth will be presented with a special certificate by the Member for Maitland, Jenny Aitchison.

The NSW Board of Studies recommends that students select Higher School Certificate (HSC) courses in subjects they enjoy, at the highest level they can manage and which prepare them well for future academic or vocational pathways. The University of Sydney has recently announced that a number of its programs will require senior Mathematics as a prerequisite from 2019. This will affect the HSC subject choices of students in the current Year 10 and younger.

Congratulations to the team of swimmers who participated in the Christian Schools Sports Association Secondary State Swimming Carnival on Monday. Tim, Carlee, Annalise and Mari-Ann represented the school with enthusiasm and recorded some personal best times.

There are three different Mathematics Preliminary Year 11 courses available and five Year 12 Mathematics courses. This provides a wide range to suite the particular needs and aspirations of different students.

Tim and Carlee each came 2nd in one of their races. Mari-Ann came 1st in the 50 metre freestyle and 3rd in the 50 metre backstroke. Well done! Page 4

Come and Join Us on Anzac Day! Each year a large contingent of students, parents, staff, board members and friends of Maitland Christian School brave the pre-dawn chill to participate in the East Maitland Anzac Day March. This year we are again calling on our students and their families to come along to the East Maitland RSL/Legacy Hall on Newcastle Road at 5:00am on Monday 25th April for the march to the War Memorial. A commemorative service will be held at the East Maitland cenotaph at 5.30am.

Please note: Anzac Day is the day before Term 2 starts. After the ceremony, participating families are invited back to school to enjoy a free barbecue breakfast together.

School Photo Day

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Photo envelopes were sent home for parents to order school photos.

Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held next Wednesday, 30 th March and the following Wednesday, 6th April. Interviews commence at 3:20pm after school and continue to 8:30pm. They are conducted in the Metford Community Baptist Church hall, just behind the auditorium.

Photo day will be Friday, 1st April and students are asked to wear full dress summer uniform on the day. For high school boys, this will include ties (red for Years 7-10 and navy for Years 11 and 12). Long hair is to be tied back.

All parents should have already received an email or letter with information about how to book interviews online. If you haven’t received this information, please contact the school as soon as possible by email at events@maitlandcs.nsw.edu.au or phone 4933 7633.

Even if you are not ordering photos, please send the empty photo envelope back to school with your child on photo day.

Canteen Helpers Needed On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the term, our dependable volunteers prepare and serve food to our students at the canteen. However, in Term 2, as the weather gets cooler there will be a need for more helpers than those who are currently available.

Interviews have now been allocated and can be viewed and printed at Edval.com.au If you would like to add, remove or move some of your interview times, you can do this, if spaces are available. Please print the times out and bring them with you to the Parent/Teacher Interview night. So you are ready to start on time, it is advisable that you arrive 10 minutes before your first interview.

If you would like to help, either occasionally or on a regular basis, please contact Narelle McIver on 4933 7633 or email canteen@maitlandcs.nsw.edu.au to find out more.

We look forward to seeing you on the night. Page 5

High School Musical Jnr Tickets up for Grabs! Next month, three of our talented students will be joining the rest of the cast of PantSeat Performing Arts to perform Disney’s High School Musical Jr at the Civic Playhouse in Newcastle. Lily from Year 10, Lissa from Year 11 and Brodie from Year 12 are in the cast. Those who saw Lily perform the role of Mrs Beaver in our production of Narnia last year, will not be surprised to hear that she won the main role of Gabriella in this new show. PantSeat Performing Arts have donated two tickets to Maitland Christian School to give to one of our students. To have a chance to win the tickets, please tell us in 25 words or less why you would love to see this production. Email your response to Mrs Hughes at v.hughes@maitlandcs.nsw.edu.au by 5:00pm on Friday, 1st April. The winner of the tickets will be announced at the assemblies on the last day of term, Friday, 8th April. If you don’t win the free tickets, you can still order tickets online at Ticketek. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the performances of these gifted students. Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Romans 6:4-6 Page 8
