Other than singing she is also an actress and has worked with Kapfupi & DJ Shugeta in 2021. Her wish is to continue spreading the word of God through music and reach out to many people. We had an interview with her and this

is how it went.

Thank you for the interview Marve Dobbie. Tell us about your musical career? I started my journey professionally when I was 19 years old when I joined Zimpraise Choir in 2014 left the same year and then started singing with Fungisai the same year as a backing vocalist and i was dismissed from the band in 2019. My first time of acting was live at

MARVE DOBBIE

Gwanzura stadium the day of GBV awareness with Kapfupi and Shugeta and we did another live act at some Tobacco function which was also promoting the awareness of GBV from then I was motivated to start my own project. I wrote and directed a drama called Chronicles of a maid starring popular musician D Flexx acting as Richard . I gained confidence to become an MC after i was a presenter on Zim Got Talent, a show which appeared for a while on national television. From there I was hired on graduation ceremonies, kitchen parties and many more. Terera is a song that I dont still understand right now how it came to

be like that. I'm still confused myself but all I know is the words came and melody followed, it was released on the 17th of May 2021. This year i’m looking forward to releasing more singles all things being equal. I am not able to say the dates. I very much desire to be a full time musician, there are challenges though. I have many functions I attended but when you are not taking things seriously usually you forget to capture those best moments but I remember a ladies surprise party i took part in, i was overwhelmed by the response which inturn motivated me so much I love dancing a lot, judging from the

response and feedback i get, i am a star lol. I am into the apparel and clothing business. Thats where most of my income comes from. I am a full time business lady. Thats my way of survival. I haven't paid attention to it lately but I believe God is going to work in favor of women. I'm not married I'm a single mom and currently dating nobody

HARARE FASHION WEEK 2021

Tell us about Harare Fashion Week (HFW) Harare fashion week is a fashion showcasing event that was started in 2017 with the aim of marketing Zimbabwean fashion creativity firstly to the Zimbabwean local market, secondly to the region and finally to the international market. HFW came into existence at a time when there was no continuous fashion showcasing event being run in the country and we managed to fill up that void in our local fashion industry. We have various mediums for our marketing however the most popular and highly sought after is the traditional runway fashion showcasing. Our shows usually take place in December at a time when most foreign based Zimbabwe-

ans are in the country. This is strategically done so that we can easily export our talents to other countries with ease. We have also been privileged to showcase the work of various regional artists from countries likes of Ghana, Rwanda, and Zambia. We have had three (3) fashion showcasing events under our name to date, and various collaborations with other brands. It has become a trend for our shows to be named after the theme of that particular season. Our first theme was, ‘Alive’, this was a theme reminding the industry that it still had live. The second one was, ‘Pride’, and it spoke of national pride, and pride in the works and products of our own gifted designers. The last show was themed, ‘Illumination’, the idea behind this theme was to

bring light to hidden but gifted fashion industry creatives. Whose behind HFW? My name is Munyaradzi Chihungwa (Instagram @munyaradzi_chihungwa), I am the founder and creative director of HFW. I am the official custodian of the tradename Harare Fashion Week, I’m responsible for the overall management of the brand and the team that makes HFW the successful that it is. A brand like HFW could never be run by a single person, so I am continually indebted to the teams that I have worked with to make each and every HFW project possible. Our

Administrator Basil Musakuro (Instagram @kaybasil) has become a constant team member while we contract for the other roles that relate with the brand. How has Covid-19 affected you? The pandemic has definitely affected entire nations and economies, not to mention the fashion industry in Zimbabwe. Supply chains, human resources and expandable incomes have all been negatively affected by the current Covid-19 Pandemic. We had benchmarked 2020 for our fourth in-house runway fashion showcase however we ended up cancelling all plans until we feel that it would be safe for our stakeholders. In the

mean while we are planning ways of continuing to meet our organisational objectives in the face of the new normal. What new ways of fashion marketing are available for designers? We have seen a higher uptake of social media marketing, online shops and a few other ingenious ways of digital marketing. We have experienced an acceleration in internet usage and connectivity and diversified courier options for the delivery of goods and services. Any future plans for HFW?

A5. We have a few arrangements planned ahead however most of these are still at a grass roots level, you know a wise man once said, “The best way to tell people what you want to do is by doing it yourself ”, in line with the wisdom of the aforementioned I am obliged to say the most by my action, so watch the space, follow our social media and keep track of our activities. I will give you a slight hint though to keep you keen, we are definitely seeing more and more opportunities in the fashion industry. Firstly, we have launched a clothing line called Eminent clothing (Instagram

@eminent_zw), this is our “lab rat” for new fashion marketing concepts that we are engineering in-house. We have also noticed that there is a gap or opportunity in the education of fashion creatives and because of such an opportunity we are in talks with strategic partners who may aid in closing this gap. I hope that will be enough to keep you interested and anxious for what we are about to do. What lessons have you leant over the years from HFW? We have learnt that there is no

limit to the imagination of man, and if you can imagine it, you can achieve it, given that you properly plan and focus on achieving the set objectives. When we started we didn’t have anything not that we have much now LOL, but all we had was an idea on a piece of paper that we literally walked for, up until a few people who believed in the vision we carry decided to partner and invest into us to make the dream a reality. I remember being sponsored on Venue, Sound, and lighting and seeing people actually pay to be part of our Vision, from paper to reality. That was one

of the most satisfying moments in my life and to this day I am grateful for that opportunity. Personally I have learnt to be certain of what I want and to chase after it like it’s the only thing that matters in my life. Focus is important, confidence is important! We have learnt people management skills by running HFW, sure we didn’t always know the best decision, we messed up sometimes, we wrecked some relations but build others while strengthening others. The Modelling/

Fashion industry can be a world of egos and managing these egos of several individuals (Designers, models, artists and service providers) all in one place is a complicated task but fortunately we have mastered this art to a respectable degree over the years. How can people get in touch with you? We are on Instagram as well as Facebook, our IG Handle is @hararefashionweek, and our FB page is @Harare Fashion Week

QUE FASHIONS

Que is a brand founded by

two young Zimbabweans. The Brand narrates stories of the ancient Zimbabwean culture fusing it into the modern day Hip hop culture as the brand mainly focuses on street culture. In 2019 the brand exhibited its first fashion collection called Vashona in Botswana at a fashion show called Fashion Without Borders. Vashona carried a story of a day in the past in the Shona culture. We narrated how they used rock

Vashona opened doors to us working with the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Channel as their stylist for their YGT TV show and also designing outfits for a well established artist called Takura. We also got recognition from Faith Wear which we are still working with designing for their other brand called Kidd Hunta.

In 2020 our project Ngoma NeHosho which was inspired by Vashona came to life. The project took us to German in the city of Flensbug where we exhibited it.
