La Mondiola Wrap - KAL
A note from our team Thank you to everyone who joined in our third annual KAL! For the second year in a row, we designed a pattern of our very own for this year’s KAL and it was quite the adventure! It has been lovely to see all the completed La Mondiola Wraps. It was so much fun to see all the different combinations of Arroyo that reflect every knitter’s personality and wardrobe! From the yarn shops, to the Zoom sessions, our Ravelry group, and new this year, our very own Facebook Group, it has been an absolute delight getting to know you all better and such a joy to knit along with each and every single one of you. We truly hope that you all had as much fun knitting along with us as we have had knitting along with you. La Mondiola Wrap KAL really stretched some knitting skills, and we should all be proficient at working those double yo’s now! Your tenacity and dedication paid off and hopefully everyone
is enjoying their finished (or nearly finished!) wraps. Thank you all again for knitting along with us! Congratulations to all of the prize winners but truly, congratulations to each and every single knitter who joined this journey in some formwhether to cheer on another knitter, to provide insight about a color choice, or to simply help out another knitter who was stuck, you all should be so proud of yourselves and what you accomplished in just a month. While this is good-bye to the KAL, hopefully this is Hello to a beautiful new friendship and we cannot wait to knit with you again soon. We will be archiving the Facebook group, but it should be available to search if you still have any questions or you can also check finished projects on Ravelry. Thanks again for knitting with us, and stay tuned, we have some news coming up. malabrigo team

H
ow long have you been working at malabrigo?
Which part of your job do you enjoy the most?
I started working at malabrigo five years ago, in August 2016. I worked at the former mill in Uruguay for almost four years and now I work at the office.
I really love my job, but what I enjoy the most is being on Instagram. I love taking a look at what designers and knitters/crocheters are making. I get to see a lot of amazing projects using our yarns and that’s really inspiring. Discovering new patterns, color combinations, and seeing beautiful photos are some of the highlights.
What are your duties and responsibilities? I was hired to work as a community manager, but now I work in Marketing and Social Media. I manage our social accounts, update our website and Ravelry page; I contact designers and knitters for new releases and collaborations, answer messages we receive from our website, help with the KAL organization and giveaways, and I work with new colors and collections.
What does a typical work day look like? Has it changed with the pandemic? I start my work day by opening my planner and making notes about important things I have to do that day. I check my email to see if there’s something urgent that needs to be done first, and then I start following my usual schedule. If you could see my typical notes, they would look like this: Instagram Stories Ravelry Pinterest Emails Patterns And then I would add what’s specific for that day.
Which part of your job is a challenge for you? To be honest, what I find more challenging is trying to solve the problems and inquiries we receive in the best possible way. As a brand, we have to make decisions and we know sometimes it can disappoint or bother some people but it would be impossible to please everyone. So that’s really difficult for me.
What’s your favorite color and favorite yarn? When I started working at the mill, I immediately fell in love with Frank Ochre. My first project was a Rasta cowl in Frank, but during these years I can say I have a lot of favorites. You can’t go wrong with Piedras, Diana and Indiecita, right? I helped to create the TriBeCa Collection and I love those colors so much. Did you know I have a color named after me? It’s #725 Kris. About yarns, I couldn’t live without Rasta, Mecha and Rios.

Kris workplace is always
We know you knit. When did you start doing it? And when did you start writing patterns? I learned to knit about 20 years ago but I didn’t love it, so after a few basic scarfs I just stopped knitting. When I started working at malabrigo I really got inspired by other people’s projects so I followed some tutorials to “learn” again. I wrote my first pattern in 2018. It’s the Arteixo Cowl for straight needles. In 2020 I decided to learn how to use circular needles and they were life-changing! Now, I have 28 released patterns and four more in the works. https://www.ravelry.com/designers/ kristel-nieves
Kris workplace is always tidy and organized!
Could you tell us an anecdote from your work at malabrigo? When Antonio (founder/owner) contacted me to have an Interview for the community manager job, I really didn’t know the brand at all. I searched and learned about it as much as I could, but the knitting/crocheting/yarn industry was new to me. I had an interview with the three owners (intimidating? yes, sure!), but it was very nice. I thought I had to go to more interviews with them and the team, but then Marcos (founder/owner) had to leave for another meeting and told me “See you on Monday!” And that’s how this adventure began.
