When it comes to boarding, we have the experience... over 160 years and counting
Founded in 1865, we are renowned as one of Britain’s great independent schools. A reputation built on our boarding and wellbeing ethos. Although a long way from 1865, our core belief of offering a safe, protective home for our pupils remains. Today boarding reflects our commitment to not only provide young people with unrivalled care, but prepare them with the skills, resilience and initiative they need to flourish in tomorrow’s rapidly changing world.
The community that we create and encourage sees pupils excel and grow as part of a house and a school family.

These qualities are fostered and encouraged through all areas of school life - from building a sense of teamwork in the boarding houses to digging deep and displaying true resilience while out on expedition.

Don’t forget a pair of slippers and a dressing gown to wear around the House with your pyjamas!
We all have our own mug for hot drinks. You can’t beat a hot chocolate!
Be yourself – this will help you make friends.
If you’re unsure of anything – just ask! We’ve all been new and we’ve all had to ask questions.
I had loads of photos from home and enjoyed decorating my room with them.
There’s so much going on throughout the year – go outside of your comfort zone!
Things that are a good idea: a padlock, an alarm clock that doesn’t tick, an adaptor (international boarders), some £1 coins for charity events.
The House staff are really friendly. If you do feel poorly, there’s always someone to help.
Believe it or not, but getting a good night’s sleep is super important and you do get tired.
Flip flops or sliders are a must!
