“
The doctors and staff are best in class.” - Ernie Withers Ernie Withers suffered a cardiac arrest at Pirate City’s Roberto Clemente Field last spring. Pirates Medical Director Dr. Patrick DeMeo responded quickly, performing CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to get Withers’ heart beating again. Withers then was rushed to the cardiac catheterization lab at Manatee Memorial Hospital, where stents were placed to open blocked arteries and a dual pacemaker/defibrillator was implanted. A week later, Withers was back at the ballfield, throwing out the first pitch for a Pittsburgh Pirates™ spring training game.

from the president World Class Connectors for Our Members By Jacki Dezelski, IOM, President | CEO
For businesses and non-profits to thrive, we need connections - connections to trusted sources of information, knowledge and expertise to overcome challenges, resources that move us forward, connections to colleagues and partners, and to customers, too. Your Chamber is proud to be a "World Class Connector" for you and your team. But, connections don't only mean networking. Your Chamber membership investment absolutely comes with plenty of opportunities to grow your network, but the Chamber provides "World Class Connections" in many other ways that don't require you to ever attend an "event". Your membership provides access to information, credibility in establishing partnerships, a voice on issues that impact our economy and quality of life, and the ability to tap into a network of subject matter experts - your fellow members! - from a wide variety of industries and fields. And, our team is here to help you make your membership work. I encourage you to pick up the phone, send us an email, connect with us on social media, or stop by the Chamber offices and let us know how the Chamber can help. Often, that help results in a connection - to a person or to information, a process, a program, or a resource. Here's a direct ask for how YOU can be a connector: in March we need at least 150 Chamber members to serve as a business community connection for local students through our annual Project TEACH program. For more than 30 years, the Chamber has presented this career awareness activity in 4th grade classrooms across Manatee County. If you can give us three hours (that includes travel time!), you can broaden the horizons for a classroom full of kids by helping them learn more about careers and imagine what they might want to be when they grow up. Check out page 9 for more information - thank you!

It's Time for Project TEACH
150+ Chamber Volunteers Needed to Visit 4th Grade Classrooms Across Manatee County on March 14 Join the Manatee Chamber as we present the Project TEACH program at area elementary schools on Thursday, March 14. Project TEACH is designed to increase career awareness among 4th grade students. For many of the children, this is one of the first times they have had a business volunteer in their classroom and the first time they have been exposed to careers other than those of their parents. More than 150 volunteers will be needed to reach every classroom. Volunteering is EASY and takes only a few hours of your time. Volunteers help the students complete an activity that encourages the students to explore what type of job/career they are thinking of for their future. Along the way, the volunteer uses prompts to share their own career pathway and talk about what they do for their job. An orientation and breakfast will be provided before volunteers head to their classrooms on the morning of March 14. If you have a specific school or teacher request, please let us know when registering as a volunteer.
Project TEACH volunteers visit Manatee County fourth grade classrooms to guide activities designed to help students think about possible education and career pathways.
Schedule on March 14: 7:00 AM Orientation breakfast at Wakeland Support Center (optional for repeat volunteers) 8:45 AM Arrive at assigned school 9:00–10:00 AM Classroom activity Sign up online to volunteer by visiting ManateeChamber. com/TEACH. You can also send an email to NzingaB@ ManateeChamber.com or call 941-748-3411. IMPORTANT: Sponsors are needed to support Project TEACH and the volunteer orientation breakfast. If you would like valuable exposure for your business, please contact Jacki Dezelski at JackiD@ManateeChamber.com. PRESENTING SPONSOR

Member Appreciation Cookout Celebrates the Heart of Our Chamber − Our Members! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Member Appreciation Cookout at the Chamber's Lakewood Ranch office. John Rice and his grill team served up delicious hot dogs and brats, donated by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and gave away a brand new Weber Pellet Smoker Grill to one lucky member. Congratulations to Sonya Kristie with Caldwell Trust Company! We shared a lot of laughs and enjoyed spending our Friday afternoon with so many friends. This was a wonderful opportunity to show our appreciation for your investment in the Manatee Chamber and for your continued support of our mission.
THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS

NOVEMBER
business after hours SMART (Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy) was honored to welcome Chamber members and guests to the November Business After Hours event. Since 1987, SMART has provided over 77,000 therapeutic riding and equine assisted learning program hours to over 6,000 individuals. We provide equine services to children, adults, veterans, cancer survivors, and first responders. Volunteers are the heart and soul of SMART! As a not-for-profit organization that is mostly volunteer powered, SMART depends and relies on the support and strength of many dedicated and caring people. SMART volunteers give the gift of their time and talents which makes it possible for every SMART rider to celebrate the freedom of movement, the companionship of a horse, and the feeling of inclusion and acceptance that comes from being surrounded by people that care about them. There has always been something special about the connection between human and horse and our SMART horses prove that every day. Our horses are patient, gentle, kind, and take their job as "trusty steed" seriously. They love to be loved on and will leave hoofprints on your heart forever. These attributes, along with exceptional care on the part of our volunteers, make it possible for our SMART Riders to receive the maximum therapeutic experience. business after hours Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Business After Hours on December 5! It was a fantastic pleasure to host this event to showcase who we are, what we do, and to display our museum as well as our plans to bring back the De Soto Courtyard to Bradenton and Manatee County. Part of our mission is to foster and facilitate an appreciation of the Spanish-American heritage in Manatee County through the landing of Hernando de Soto in 1539 at Shaw’s Point. We hope everyone enjoyed the delicious food and drinks and made a few network connections. If anyone has any questions regarding the Hernando De Soto Historical Society or what we do, please do not hesitate to contact De Soto HQ. We look forward to seeing you all again very soon!

coffee club The Humane Society of Manatee County (HSMC) is growing to serve animals in need in our community. Our 10,000 sq. ft. Veterinary Clinic offers low cost spay/neuter (free if qualified), wellness, x-rays, state-of-the-art dental procedures and is proud to announce our latest service: dermatology. The goal is to find the root cause of skin issues and treat to eliminate, not just mask, the symptoms. All these services are offered at low to moderate cost to pet owners. The Second Chance Adoption Center finds homes for more than 700 dogs and cats annually. Many of these animals have medical conditions that other area shelters are not able to treat. The dogs and cats in the shelter are cared for until they are adopted, no matter what the time period may be. In addition, more than 1,000 lbs. of food are distributed monthly through our Pet Food Pantry, helping those financially challenged owners with pet food so they do not have to surrender their beloved pets. We are grateful to our donors, volunteers and grantors, whose support allows us to care for the thousands of owned and homeless dogs and cats that come through our doors every year. Thank you, Manatee Chamber members, for taking time out of your busy schedules to stop at The Humane Society of Manatee County’s Coffee Club event. We love hosting this event to showcase the continued expansion of our HSMC campus made possible by the amazing support of our community. You, the members, are such an important part of this community and we are so proud to be members of the Manatee Chamber. Rick Yocum, CNE / Executive Director, Humane Society of Manatee County

coffee club The Manatee Chamber kicked off the holiday season with the 2023 Holiday Coffee Club. The event was sponsored by Hancock Whitney Bank and held at the Bayside Community Church in East Bradenton. What a great opportunity for networking with local businesses and professionals while getting into the holiday spirit listening to the Saint Stephens Children’s Choir sing seasonal favorites. “Hancock Whitney was proud to continue our tradition as presenting sponsor for the Holiday Coffee Club, and we all appreciated the warm hospitality of our hosts, Bayside Community Church,” said Chris Pennewill, Senior Vice President, Hancock Whitney Bank. “This sold-out event was a testament to the true spirit of the season as we came together for breaking of bread, fellowship, and gift giving to support the life-changing work done by Pace Center for Girls. It is truly a privilege to work alongside the Manatee Chamber of Commerce and its fine member businesses to make our community a better place to live, work, and grow."

JANUARY
coffee club The Manatee River Fair Association was delighted to host the Chamber’s January Coffee Club to kick off the 2024 Manatee County Fair. We hope everyone enjoyed the Coffee Club event and the 108th Manatee County Fair. In addition, we would like to thank our sponsors for their generous support and the numerous volunteers who helped make our Fair- “Fun is in the Air at the Manatee County Fair 2024” - such a huge success. Planning for the 2025 Manatee County Fair has already begun and we would like to invite all businesses to consider sponsorship to help support local agricultural programs. In addition to the annual Fair, our fairgrounds are open year-round to host local, state, and national events. We invite all 501C3 Organizations to consider allowing us the opportunity to host your next event. Whether you would like the open space of our grounds area, our covered Mosaic Arena or our spacious (18,000 square feet) AirConditioned Veterans’ Hall, we believe we have the perfect setting to suite your needs along with plenty of parking. Please feel free to call our office for information on becoming part of our Manatee County Fair family (volunteer/ sponsor) or for venue rental availability.
