What’s it like to be headlining at the Liverpool International music festival?

All four girls shout back – Hello Lifestyle Magazine!
Little Mix are the most successful girl group in Britain today – but just in case introductions are necessary they are; Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall! Back in 2011 they were the first girl group to win the X Factor, since then they have gone from strength to strength and have even cracked the notoriously difficult America with their base heavy pop hits! But now they are back on this side of the pond, traveling up and down the country promoting their new single, “How Ya Doin” Featuring Missy Elliot. I managed to have a chin wag with the girls whilst they were pootling down the motorway, about hard work and how much they are looking forward to headlining at the Liverpool International Music Festival. EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH
JOY LEWIS
Oh it’s amazing, fantastic we can’t believe it! We are so so excited. It’s an honour for us really; it’s our first headline, so it’s going to be very special for us. We are really excited about coming to Liverpool, we have performed there before, for the X Factor tour, and we loved it. The city is great and the people are too, when we played there the audience was fantastic that night!
Do you still watch the X Factor? And do you feel that there is competition with the new contestants coming through?
Yes we love the X factor and we catch it when we can, we don’t feel threatened by the new contestants, we’re supportive of it.
You have cracked the US where many others have failed, being the first British girl group ever to debut in the top 5 in the charts over there, ermmmm wow! How does that feel? Has it sunk in yet?
To be honest I don’t think it will ever sink in, we are all still in shock over it I think! We have been to quite a few places over there and there are always loads of fans who turn up to wherever we are being interviewed.
The US clearly loves you; you have even beaten the Spice Girls record! What so you think is the secret of your success over there?
10
I really don’t know if there is a secret other than great songs. We do work really hard, we never stop, every day we are doing something different. But it goes to show that the harder your work the more success you have. We also just try and be

CELEBRITY
Hahaha yes, well, sometimes. Okay so, this is a good story; we were getting interviewed on a radio show over there, and the host couldn’t understand us. Listeners were on the phone asking us questions and when we replied he was saying” what did you say, can you repeat that?”, but before we could answer, the fans were translating what we had said for the radio presenter and defending us! It was brilliant! At least our fans can understand us, that’s the main thing isn’t it? You are quite individual girls with your
What’s your ultimate goal? What would really make you stop and say, wow, ok now we have really made it?
ownlook, is that up to you? Do you have much control over things?
Who would be your dream collaboration?
As you said you all work really hard, and I know you haven’t stopped, are you still enjoying it?
World wide success, yes that would 100% make us happy, very happy! But really, we just want to be around enjoying ourselves, making music and entertaining for as long as possible.
Well, actually it has already happened for us, Missy Elliot has been our dream collaboration from the start, we love her! But who next, hmmmmm Nicki Minaj? Yeah we’ll go with her next please, now that would be really cool!
Have you actually managed to meet Missy yet?
Oh yes we definitely do, we are all our own person. We have a lot of input in everything we do, weather it is what we wear, recording or writing, and we have been like that from the beginning.
Four voices shouted - Yes we love it.
Good luck for the Liverpool International Music Festival girls, I’m looking forward to see you live! Thank you, we’ll see you there!
No not yet, but we are hoping to soon!
You are four girls, always together, do you really get on? How do you avoid all the usual drama that happens when girls normally get together?
Hahaha yes we really get on. I don’t think we would have lasted even this long if we didn’t! We've been lucky that we get along so much, it's like having three other sisters to party with every day—it's fun!

With National Heritage Week just around the corner, September 2013 marks Liverpool Heritage Month, a chance to celebrate the cities roots and have a closer look at the remarkable buildings on our doorstep. With over 2,500 listed buildings, our city boasts the largest collection of Grade II listed buildings outside of London! The Bank Bar and Brasserie on Brunswick Street is one of those. Originally known as The Heywood’s Building, The Bank was founded by brothers Arthur and Benjamin Heywood in 1799 and is the oldest surviving purpose-built bank in the city. The Heywood House Hotel still dominates the building block and is now home to one of the finest restaurants in Liverpool. Incorporating many of the original features, yet combined with the modern luxuries consumers have come to expect, the building retains spectacular design and original architecture delivering a truly unique dining experience. The mouth watering menus offer something for everyone, using premium, often locally sourced ingredients. Also offering daily incentives like steak nights, wine club and happy hour at the stylish and lively bar, reasons to visit The Bank are endless! So celebrate Liverpool Heritage Month by dining at Liverpool’s hottest new restaurant, and enjoy sumptuous food served in a building steeped in history.

Liverpool cabbie drivers treat local blind children to a grand day out!
COMMUNITY Lifestyle Magazine was very proud to sponsor a black cab in support of this year’s “Liverpool Taxi cabs outing for blind children”. It was an amazing spectacle of 50 black cabs, highly decorated with balloons, streamers and banners. They picked up children from St Vincent’s School for the Blind and the Royal School for the Blind for an annual day trip out to New Brighton and the Floral Pavilion earlier this month. The Black cab drivers mostly from Liverpool, but a few this year from London, gave a whole day of their time to take 90 blind children for a fun day out. The kids were picked up at their schools at 9am, and complete with police escort, travelled across the water to New Brighton. They first went to the beautiful Floral Pavilion for drinks and biscuits before they were
whisked off to the fairg fairground. They were then taken to the local bowling alley where they had a few games and lunch! But it didn’t end there, afterwards each child was given a present up the value of £25, befo before heading back to school once again in their convoy of brightly decorated black cabs! This grand day out was organised and funded by the drivers themselves and sponsorship money. The charity was founded in the 1930’s to help local blind children. It resumed after a break for the war and the 2013 event, on July 10th, was the 64th outing. The children were aged up to 18 and came from both St Vincent's School for the Blind and the Royal Liverpool School for the Blind.

George Johnson Fundraising Team George! I’m a parent, specifically a mum, and like every parent when you hear of a child who is sick you feel a physical thump to your chest. That is exactly what happened to me when I heard the story about 3 year old George Johnson. George has a mystery illness and needs a great deal of support, as does his family. George has a very rare motility condition which means he can’t feed, drink or swallow and is surviving off being fed directly through his heart. George's complex condition is yet to be fully diagnosed as everything that he suffers from is unfortunately extremely rare. George undergoes more surgery in August for which he and his mum will be leaving the family home to travel to Great Ormond Street Hospital. They hope it will only be a short stay – perhaps three weeks – but who knows, as George has
spent most of his life so far in hospital. This of course involves great expense for the family as every time George goes to London for treatment, his Mum has to pay the typically very high rental costs of a flat in the capital for the duration of their stay. But despite the countless operations and weekly tests that he has to endure, George has been a huge inspiration to everybody that he comes into contact with, because he does nothing but smile!
So can you find a way to support George and his family? As much fundraising as possible is needed to help raise awareness of this condition and to help George’s family travel and stay with him every time he goes into hospital. Lots of information of George’s mystery illness and how to get involved with this very worthy charity is available here: http://teamgeorge01.wix.com/teamgeorge#! and on Facebook: www.facebook.com/TeamGeorgeFundraising
Good Luck Team George!

But there are also plenty of reasons why you should go the extra mile and stop smoking. Here are just some of them… 1) Stubbing out cigarettes means smoking-related symptoms such as shortness of breath won’t stop you from keeping up with the kids or the grandkids. 2) By stopping smoking you will also be going the extra mile for those around you because they won’t be inhaling the secondhand smoke from your cigarettes. 3) After three months, sporting activity, such as running, will be easier because your circulation has improved. That marathon could be within your sights for next year. 4) Your immune system will thank you because carbon monoxide from cigarette smoke won’t be a problem and the increase in oxygen means you’ll be less tired and less likely to have headaches. 5) By cutting out 20 cigarettes from your day, you will find you have extra time on your hands instead. Plus, you’ll be saving around £200 a month as well as saving your health in the process. Visit www.liverpoolcommunityhealth.nhs.uk 53

Bierkeller After just only 6 months in the city the Bierkeller Entertainment Complex expanded last month in size as well as in staffing levels. Over 75 jobs ranging from part time to full time where created back in November last year. Now there will be an extra 25 part and full time roles created with the expansion of the site. From June onwards there will be a 250 seating capacity outdoor area created at the facia of the site. Commenting on the expansion plans of the Liverpool site Area Manager Peter Robinson said “Since opening our doors in the heart of Liverpool One our forecast and projections for this site have been far exceeded. We knew Liverpool was a great party city, by had no idea that we would be literally ran off our feet. The feedback has been amazing and it gives us great pride to expand our staffing levels after such a short period of time. Our age range and clientele is so diverse. From young football fans to beer connoisseur in their 80s making use of the range of over 100 beers on site. We are now opening our fourth site just up the road in Manchester at the Printworks site in the City Centre. This will be open by the end of August and we are currently recruiting.
