Celebrity Interview
Britain’s Got Talent
Julian Smith...
As the new series of Britain’s Got Talent gets underway, Lifestyle Monthly caught up with last year’s semi-finalist, Julian Smith. The humble saxophonist talked to Amanda Moss about celebrities, Celine Dion and playing his beloved music… When did you first learn the saxophone? It was, funnily enough, the last of all my instruments I learnt to play. I started with piano lessons when I was six years old, then I played the bassoon which took me right through music college. I also played the drums and a bit of percussion but I didn’t start on the saxophone until I was 14. By then I had already learned to play the clarinet so I sort of taught myself. It was an easy transition from the clarinet.
through controlled breathing and I think that got me through. What makes you different from other musicians. I play the saxophone differently because I had no lessons and therefore I am not pigeon holed into the jazz genre that most saxophone players are. I listen to singers and I adapt to play how a singer would sing.
Why did you decide to play the saxophone? I had heard the No Jacket Required album from Phil Collins and liked the sound of it and wanted to play the saxophone.
Who are your musical influences? Kenny G and Celine Dion who can hold big notes like I can. I also love Il Divo and would love to meet them. My ultimate dream is to duet with Celine Dion though.
Why did you go on Britain’s Got Talent last year? I wasn’t keen as I thought that if it went wrong I would end up having to go home with my tail between my legs. My wife had more faith in me, and more faith than I had in myself.
Do you still teach music? No, not since I was on BGT. I loved it, I enjoyed teaching other people and see them progress but it took up a lot of my energy and time and ultimately I wanted to play, not teach.
How did it feel walking onto the stage in front of Simon Cowell and the judges? I was nervous, but not about playing because I knew I could do it. I was more concerned with the reaction I could get as one comment from Simon Cowell could cut you dead.. Also they judge you on your looks and personality and all of those things are quite nerve wracking. But my talent is that I can hold notes
How has being on BGT changed your life? It has given me more freedom, more time with my family. Instead of me doing 4 or 5 bookings a week at private parties, I can do one for the same amount of money. My private bookings have obviously gone up and I have been aloe to concentrate on my music a lot more.

This celebrity culture can be a bit crazy, I’d hate to not be able to go to a supermarket like some A-listers
”
What happened after the BGT series finished? Well I went on tour with everyone and I have done lots of charity events for the likes of The Red Cross and Breakthrough for Breast Cancer. I was even asked by Prince Charles to play for him at Clarence House which was nice and I think my management company got a letter form the Prime Minister asking for me to play at number ten. I must chase them up on that one, although it might not be a good time with the general election! I am currently on tour with The Soldiers so I am quite busy. What has been your favourite private booking? It has to be when I was flown to Monaco. I wasn’t really briefed that much but I was whisked away to a very nice house that had a yacht moored at the bottom of the garden. I performed for 14 people at a dinner party. I stayed at the Hotel Café de Paris and got a taste for how the other half live! Do you class yourself as a celebrity? Yes to the extent that people recognise me but I can walk down the street without being mobbed. Yesterday I went through a drive through Macdonalds and the girl serving me had to stop and run round and tell all her mates who she was serving! This celebrity culture can be a bit crazy, I’d hate to not be able to go to a supermarket like some A-listers. It can also make you feel quite paranoid, when thousands of people are screaming for you. It’s like living in a goldfish bowl.
What’s the nicest thing that has happened to you since being on BGT I was playing at the Royal Albert Hall, which in itself is amazing, and then they had arranged for Kenny G to come out and perform with me. And I also performed on the Classical Stars single to raise money for Haiti. But being able to play my music is just lovely. Do you take pride in your appearance? Yes but I don’t go mad. I like to shop for clothes, my favourite shop in TK Maxx. I can spend hours in there. There is a lot of rubbish but amongst it all you can find something very individual. Do you play the lottery and what would you do if you won? No I never buy a ticket. Although it would be nice to win as it would certainly take the pressure off. I think you can only spend a certain amount of money in life- I read recently that Mike Tyson lost like, 100 million and I thought how can you spend all that in a lifetime? What have you recently spent on your credit card? I don’t have any credit cards, they are very dangerous, but I did buy some furniture- a cupboard for my TV and a Bose music system. Oh, and a rug for the conservatory. I really am very boring. How do you chill out? With my family. I love watching US sitcoms like King of Queens and Two and a Half Men. But you can’t top Desperate Housewives, it’s very clever. What three things make you happy? My kids, my music and my lovely wife.
Julian Smith will be appearing at at the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation Ball on 4 June in Liverpool

BREAST SCREENING BEYOND MAMMOGRAPHY. Thermal Imaging is the future of breast screening. It fits all the criteria our Doctors and Oncologists are recommending, early detection and 100% safe. With over 800 published research papers on breast cancer alone, and with trials involving up to 300,000 women all indicating very favourable results, there is ample data to show the benefits of Medical Infrared Thermal Imaging when used in breast screening. Informed and concerned women are now using this safer, accurate and painless method of breast screening in place of routine mammography. The main reason for this shift toward Medical Thermal Imaging is its ability to detect breast abnormalities, including cancer, 8-10 years before it is possible with mammography. Most women we talk to at our clinic in Crosby have concerns about the dangerous levels of “ionising” radiation associated with mammography and also the dangerous and painful process of clamping the breasts during the procedure. The ionising radiation used in mammography is known to be damaging. As a recent study pointed out, women are not informed of the levels of radiation they are exposed to during routine mammography. Doctors are pointing out that the radiation absorbed dose (RAD) women are exposed too during a routine mammogram screening is the equivalent of 1000chest x-rays in one session! How many women are aware of that, and how many would subject themselves to that amount of radiation if they were told the truth? It is for this reason many Doctors are now saying that no healthy woman should be subjected to these levels of ionising radiation. Quote. If I were a woman I’d never have a mammogram. Dr Russell Blaylock, oncologist, brain surgeon and neuroscientist. The good news is women now have a choice of a 100% safe breast screening procedure that is recognised by the Medical Health Regulatory Authority in the UK as a class one screening device. For more information about this revolutionary screening method please contact Phil or Rosa on 0151 931 5001 or visit our website www.safebreastscreening.org

personal trainer Amanda Moss continues her sessions with Lewis Bailey, living up to his deserved reputation as the number one personal trainer in the city.
My first task of slimming down for the Lifestyle Monthly Awards was achieved thanks to Lewis’ gruelling personal training. Without his steely determination to change my body shape and the pressure he piled on me to change my eating habits there is no way I would have managed to stay so focused. He has proven to me that miracles do happen without going under the knife as I never thought I would see a size 12 slide over my hips again. Now the goalposts have moved as it’s the dreaded ‘bikini tone” time. With just three months until the summer holidays where Cyprus beckons, Lewis has told me it is time to up my game if I am to look half decent on Nissi beach. And he isn’t kidding as he catapults me head first into the most strenuous weight lifting workout I have ever had to endure. Three sets of weight lifts (9 kg), interspersed with lunges and weights at the same time. The first time I did this I went home and had to have a lie down for three hours, I was physically exhausted.
Session by session though, it gets a little easier and my shoulders don’t feel like I have carried sacks of coal up a hill anymore. However, in true Lewis Bailey style, just as I think I have overcome the next hurdle he throws in another surprise – ab planks are the most painful and mentally testing exercise I have to experience. It really is mind over matter as I hold my muscles in and poise with forearms and ankles with all the weight on my stomach. DIG DEEP , Lewis shouts as my body falters inches from the ground and I have to pull myself back into position. For the last few sessions I have been wearing pink trainers and a pink top. When I leave the studio my face is as pink as my shoes and I have never experienced so much sweat outside a sauna “How do you feel?” Lewis asks, after he has made me suffer 8 laps of lunges with 6 kg weights, “ As I struggle to catch my breath, he smiles wickedly and says, “It’s good isn’t it?”Erm at the time, no it isn’t, it’s a nightmare. It hurts, it’s uncomfortable and I am ready to collapse but a few hours later I have to admit it that yes, it does feel good. I have finally been bitten by the exercise bug.
Lewis At last, summer is finally here. It’s time to start cycling to work, walk the dog, mow the lawn and get the tennis racquets out, this is the time of year to really start feeling good again. The holiday season is fast approaching and for many people it’s time to start thinking about getting in shape for the beach and what most people are after for the beach is the typical washboard stomach, so how is this achieved I hear you ask! Well the first thing to remember about achieving a fantastic six pack is DIET! We all have a great looking torso under the layers of fat. So my advice to you is to forget about crazy crunches that are bad for your back and posture and focus more on eating the right food for you. Food My advice on food is this, you must start eating more protein. The majority of people eat a high carbohydrate diet this needs to be balanced out by increasing more protein and fat. Yes is said it fat! Fat is a vital fuel source and is essential for cell formation, hormone production, prostaglandin formation and immune
Bailey Lewis Bailey guides you in the right direction
response to name a few. So, without this important fuel source the body cannot not function efficiently and this will seriously inhibit your fat loss goals so introduce a small amount of healthy fat. The best source of healthy fat you can get is from oily fish, this contains omega 3 which is exactly what we need. So try this from now on, completely reduce startchy carbohydrate consumption, get rid of cereal, rice, pasta, bread and replace with green vegetables such as broccoli, asparagus, rocket, spinach, leafy greens and so on. Increase protein and fat intake by introducing cod, haddock, salmon, prawns, squid and try more meats, beef, chicken, lamb and duck. Try to eat at least three meals a day
If you want to find out more on what to do for exercise then visit my website www.elitefitnessconsultants.co.uk and go to the exercise library page or if you wish to book in for a free exercise session then contact me on 07771 533 408 or lewis@elitefitnessconsultants.co.uk
consisting of these foods and snack on fruit, nuts and natural yogurt. Note that these foods should ideally be organic and not processed foods in order to get the best response from your body. Six Pack Exercises The majority of traditional stomach exercises that you see in magazines and on the TV with these gimmicky machines are bad for your back and posture so stop doing the stupid 500 crunches per day and learn how to train your stomach the correct way. Go to www.elitefitnessconsultants.co.uk and click on the video clips page to learn how to flatten your stomach without causing back pain.

Look of the Month by Shell Sullivan The Spring Summer catwalks were awash with fresh-faced, natural, pretty looks with bursts of colour and a soft fairytale finish to them. Think baby pinks mixed with bright corals, floaty soft hair with wispy braids, and porcelain perfect skin. “There is a backlash against excess, It’s about confidence now, not complication.” This season colourful eyes are back but with a new found sophistication as opposed to last season. Gone are the neon brights of the ‘80s trend from winter and in their place are an array of pastels as seen on the Nicole Farhi and Dior shows. Complexions are fresh with a flawless finish; whatever foundation you wear make sure it’s light and natural this season. Lips are in a word, pink. Yes, it’s back and was all over the catwalk in shades of soft rose - worn over deep plums to lighten the look as seen in Marc by Marc Jacobs - coral pinks added glamour at Missoni, baby pink nude glosses at Max Mara and Hermes were popular, and pops of bright pinky reds left models catwalk ready at Prada. For this months makeup feature, I used a light shimmer on both the inner eye and across the brow bone to highlight, lift and open up the eye area. I applied a mid tone pink like MAC ‘Lala’ (£11) to shape the socket area. Pink and peach shades are really versatile you can go from day to evening looking chic. I used a mineralize blush for sheer soft colour, sweeping across cheekbones and around the temples to complement the contoured eye. I used MAC Rhapsody in Two (£17.50) a swirl of light pink/ soft peach with a frost finish, perfect for the luminescent shimmer to the cheekbones. I finished the look with a matte bubblegum pink lip try Illamasqua ‘Corrupt’ (£15) or Rimmel ‘Kiss Me’ (£4.99). If you have any makeup questions, in need of some advice or you would like to enquire about making a booking then get in touch at shell.sullivan@hotmail.co.uk or find me on my Facebook Fan page or Twitter.

LIFESTYLE MONTHLY CHATTED TO LISA EQUIZI, CO FOUNDER OF THE LIP DOCTOR WITH HER HUSBAND, FAB Why did you decide to set up The Lip Doctor? Fab had been doing treatments as a sideline to being a GP since 2000 and after the birth of our daughter in 2006 we decided that we would like to set up a business together. There was such a demand for treatments of this kind, so it was a great time to set the business up.
And you live and work in the same building, how easy is that? With the clinic being attached to where we live it makes life pretty easy for us with regards to juggling the kids, work and home. We do however work late most nights once the kids are in bed.
What's the story behind the name? We wanted a catchy name that would interest people and one that is hard to forget.
Do you set yourself rules so you don't go into the office after 9pm We do try to but I'm afraid it never seems to work that way!
Tell us about the clinic Our clinic is based in Maghull. Dr Fab Equizi does all the procedures while I tend to the day to day running of the business and marketing. We have no other staff as we like to keep it small and friendly, an approach which works well with our clients.
How do you spend your weekends? With family and friends, we like to eat out. Sometimes we work away but will always take the kids with us. We sometimes make ourselves available at weekends for our regulars if they have difficulty getting in during their working week.
And what do you offer? We offer a number of aesthetic procedures from line and wrinkle treatments to lip plumping and then the more advanced procedures such as the 'virtual facelift' which is a treatment using a combination of dermal fillers and botulinum toxin to volumise and contour the face to achieve facelift like results without going under the knife. We can do cheekbone enhancement and smooth out the appearance of minor nose bumps. We also have a range of skin treatments from the dermaroller for scar reduction to reasonably priced peels and products.
What's the best thing about your job? All the people that we meet, especially with people returning again and again. We are fortunate to have really nice clients. Sometimes we have so much fun with them you could hardly call it work!
Tell us about your family/kids Between us we have five children from the age of three to fifteen.
How hard is it juggling work with the kids? Luckily we have great childcare and family who are often willing to lend a hand so it works well.
What's it like living and working together with Fab? A lot of people ask us this, but most of the time we find it just fine, of course there is the odd time when we'd happily strangle each other!!
Did you ever imagine your clinic would grow to be one of the most successful beauty clinics in the north west No, when we opened the clinic we had a small client base, over time and with lots of recommendation the business has gone from strength to strength, we get clients travelling from around the country hearing of Fabs excellent work and they usually bring a friend back on their next appointment. With advertising on Radio City and in the likes of Lifestyle Monthly magazine we now have great brand awareness. We are really proud of what we have achieved.
0151 520 3070 The Lip Doctor 171-173 Liverpool Road South Maghull Merseyside L31 8AA www.lipdoctor.co.uk
How did it feel to win Best Beauty Clinic at the first Lifestyle Monthly Awards? I think the fact that it was voted for by the public made the award extra special, it's great to see that all our hard work has paid off!
What are you plans for the next year? Fab will be doing more training as he currently trains other practitioners in advanced techniques for two companies, Bioform Medical and Lifestyle Aesthetics plus we plan to keep an eye out for any new products or treatments that we can introduce.
What's your best selling treatment/product? During this time of the year we do a huge amount of dermal filler treatments but over the year the most popular treatment has got to be the treatment of lines and wrinkles using botulinum toxin.
What can people expect at The Lip Doctor? A warm and friendly welcome with no pressure or hard sell, they can expect a great result after their procedures and because we do check up appointments they have piece of mind, we pride ourself not only on the results we deliver but also on our excellent aftercare.
Have you had to forfeit anything to get where you are today? Not at all it's been joy to build the company, some days it doesn't even feel like work as there are so many lovely people that we meet each day that even on our twelve hour days it flies by.
What makes The Lip Doctor unique? As I mentioned earlier I think it's the small and friendly approach that puts people at ease, coupled with excellent results and aftercare that makes us stand out from the rest. Fab is very fussy and always looks for things to improve at the follow up appointments. We firmly believe in what we do, we are quite vain and consume a lot of our own products!

Feeling Safe, Keeping Safe Have you ever been in a situation where you felt vulnerable; a little unsafe? It could be the time you were walking the dog and suddenly realised there was no one else around. Perhaps an occasion when you were waiting alone at a bus stop or noticed some unusual behaviour. Certainly not critical enough to warrant a call to the emergency services but a definite feeling of unease. Well now there is help at hand in the form of a new service from SitexOrbis. Called help5, it is available 24/7 through the use of mobile phones on any network and provides a two speed dial system which is set up via website www.iamnotalone.co.uk. “It is really very simple to use,” says Simon Wainewright, Lone Worker and Response Centre Director at SitexOrbis. “You simply set up two speed dials, one we call ‘amber alert’ and the other ‘red alert’. “You give us your emergency contact details – it could be your spouse, parents, a friend, whomever you want – and then you are ready to go,” he adds. Ths service costs from just £1 per week, all you need to do is press the ‘amber alert’ button on your mobile device, leaving a short voice message as to where you are going and how long you anticipate being there, or other messages as appropriate.
Then, if the situation escalates and you are able to make a call you can press your designated ‘red alert’ key, and this will connect to the support team who will then listen and assess the situation. They will remain silent so as not to alarm those around you, however, should you wish to speak to them, two-way communication is possible with the support team, who, on your pre-agreed instructions, may also get in touch with your list of emergency contacts. In the unfortunate circumstance of an attack of some kind the support team may, if requested to do so, contact the emergency services on your behalf. If you haven’t set up the ‘amber alert’ prior to going out, then the support team can attempt to locate you through location software once the ‘red alert’ has been raised, and should the need arise, recordings of the call can be supplied and may be admissible as evidence in court. “ “SitexOrbis has been providing property and people protection for over 26 years and clients include many blue chip companies, local authorities
and housing associations. We also monitor over 10,000 lone workers using similar technology to help5, so we are very experienced in this field.” Wainewright is very proud to be offering help5 specifically to those living in the North West. “We ourselves are a North West based company with our state of the art alarm centre located in Bromborough. We wanted to be able to offer our local community this service before anyone else in the country and are optimistic that it will be seen as a real value added element where personal safety is concerned.” Anyone wishing to benefit by using the help5 service, or simply wishing to enquire at this stage, should visit the website: www.iamnotalone.co.uk.

Dinner with Herbert Lifestyle Monthly raised £310 in a charity auction for Radio City’s Cash for Kids last year by bidding on dinner with celebrity hairdresser, Herbert. And so editor Amanda Moss, together with husband Simon, were recently whisked away in a limo to the The Swan in Aughton, the new Marco Pierre White restaurant and hotel, for dinner and delightful company. Suit and tie was the dress code of the evening “I’m a little old fashioned, “ Says Herbert, who likes to dress for dinner. Celebrity hairdresser Herbert, started his salon over 40 years ago with just £100 in his pocket, he is now one of Liverpool’s top success stories, ploughing much of his hard earned cash into raising £thousands for charities. He still works part time in his famous salon in the Bling Bling building in Hanover Street, responsible for over 300 staff including his training school, Herbert of Liverpool Training
Centre which not only teaches hairdressing, but customer service and management skills. We dined on french onion soup, duck pate and palma ham for starters, steak, lamb and vegetables for main course and rice pudding souffle and white chocolate cheese cake for desert His philosophy: Too many people buy clothes they can’t afford with money they haven’t got to impress people they don’t even like. Some words of wisdom from a French hairdresser: never have your shop on ground level so people are ale to just walk in off the street. Make them go upstairs, if you make them feel special they will go upstairs.

Restaurant reviews Sapporo Teppanyaki
Food
Sapporo Teppanyaki 134 Duke street Liverpool Ph 0151 705 3005
I went to Tokyo as a reporter for the Nintendo Games Show back in 1993 and was thrust into an alien world of Asian cuisine. I hadn’t eaten Japanese food since. So I was a little hesitant when Sapporo invited me and a guest to dine at their Teppanyaki style restaurant in Duke Street, Liverpool. I need not have had any reservations though as within seconds of entering the restaurant I began to marvel at this gem of an eaterie. Sapporo is more than a restaurant- it is a unique and exquisite dining experience where you are entertained by talented chefs. My guests and I were led to a Ushaped table that had room for 8 diners. Centred in the middle was a large grill. Strangers were sat around the same table but no-one felt uncomfortable as the chef juggled with razor sharp machetes inches from our nose. If you have ever seen the Tom Cruise film, cocktail think spinning knives and dangerous kitchen utensils, instead of shaking cocktails. The Sushi menu is delectable, after sampling the mixed sushi for sharing, I am now an enthusiastic convert to the healthy Japanese offerings. The menu offers a variety of salads and sushi, miso soup and noodles. There are hot appetisers – I opted for the Smoked Chicken Rolls with a barbecue dipping sauce. All the while we ate, the chef spun his magic with scrambled eggs, sautéed potatoes and a stir fried rice dish, right
before our eyes. The seasoning was nothing short of exquisite, the stir fried vegetables that came with my juicy sirloin steak was so delectable on my tongue I ate slowly to savour every mouthful. My friend chose a vegetarian main course, recommended by our lovely waitress. He had the Oko-Nomi Yaki, which I thoroughly recommend. It is a pancake with cabbage, shitake mushroomsand topped with mayonnaise, yakisoba sauce and nori seaweed.
The chef continued to entertain us throughout the main course and suitable full, there was no room for desert. Typical main courses at Sapporo are around £18 and they are served with huge portions of potatoes, rice and stir fried vegetables. Dining at Sapporo is more than just going out for a meal- you get a tingling entertainment show, freshly cooked food right in front of your eyes and an amazing menu choice offering fantastic pan- Asian cuisine.
Unbelievable delicious, it was a taste explosion of sweet and sour at the same time, with a lovely consistency.
Christakis Greek taverna Specialising in large bookings, such as birthday and hen parties, Christakis expects you to go and eat there and have a really good time.
Christakis Greek restaurant in York Street, Liverpool, is one of the oldest restaurants in the city centre. For over 25 years they have been serving traditional Greek dishes to a stalwart crowd of Greek dining enthusiasts. And if it’s a fun atmosphere with great, well prepared and affordable Greek food you have a taste for, then go to christakis. Not only is the food delicious, but it’s also generously served on enormous plates. And once the food is out of the way get ready for the live entertainment. Depending on the night you choose to dine, there’s belly dancing, traditional greek dancing and, of course, plate smashing. The menu is broken down into easy to choose sections with more choice for the drinks than there is food- that tells you what a party night for are in for!
I chose the grilled Haloumi cheese which was similar to mozzarella in texture, but salted and with a greater depth of flavor. it was served cut into squares and grilled to a pleasing golden brown served with two types of pita bread. My main course of roast lamb kleftico was a chunk of meat that fell away in layers, was fork tender, mild in flavours and accompanied by potatoes, rice and a well assembled Greek salad and altogether was better than any lamb i’ve had in Cyprus. My other half chose Taramosalata followed by 2 chicken kebabs skewered and succulently grilled to perfection. My best friend had garlic mushrooms in a sweet buttered sauce to start followed by the same main course as myself, while his wife had a greek salad followed by salmon kebabs. We finished off the meal of with two generous slices of chocolate cake washed down with coffees all round. All this for a very reasonable £15 per head for 2 courses, not including drinks of course. We enjoyed the disco lights, the laser show and DJ
managed to get our friends to join in with her routine and they received many gleeful shouts of ‘Opa!’ and rounds of applause. It was impossible to stay seated, Christakis makes you feel that you have been invited to a massive family gathering. No-one remained seated, we danced until 2am. Some may say suggest Christakis is in need of a lick of paint, others may feel that the comfortable decor makes you feel as if you have been invited round to your greek neighbours for dinner. I am of the latter view. I couldn’t fault the service, the staff are impeccably friendly and made us feel like we were part of their family. In all, surprisingly,we had a one of the best nights out in Liverpool for a long time which was a very unexpected pleasure. 7 York Street Liverpool Merseyside L1 5BN Ph 0151 708 7377

The Noble House E
xperience some 1920's New York City glamour as I did with my dearest friend and dinner companion, at The Noble House Restaurant and Bar.
The Noble House presents an all day menu starting with breakfast served between 7.30am - 10am and lunch from midday. The menu also boasts 5 daily cheese changes, two types of bread and a daily soup change. There's an impressive wine list compiled by dedicated wine merchants from all over the world. We took the managers recommendation of Albarino Leiras Rias Baixas (£29.00). A Spanish white wine that brought fusions of apples and flowers in the initial taste and left hints of olives on my palate. We began with two starters, a trio of Mushrooms (£9.95) puree of portobello mushrooms, with a delicious cappuccino of woodland mushrooms (a mini mushroom soup) and sauteed girolles on grilled sour dough. My dinner guest savoured over a grilled whole sardine with spiced sweet pimentoes and a tantalising chorizo and harrisa (£6.95). Not too filling, rich in flavour and both dishes were beautifully presented. The menu is eclectic international mix of dishes with the emphasis on quality steaks & fish.
For the main course I had a medium done harmony farm premium fillet steak (£27.95) aged for 28 days - farm to fork method, this steak didn't disappoint. Tender, succulent and literally melted in my mouth. I chose peppercorn sauce to accompany my mighty main that was served with spiced garlic butter, sauteed mushrooms and delicious grilled cherry tomatoes. My dinner guest selected from the impressive 'specials' menu. Choosing Seared Indian ocean tuna (16.95) with sesame dressed asian noodles (and enjoying a entire course without me talking, just savouring) my guest described the fish as meaty, fresh and well flavoured. The noodles were juicy, not to thick, and a perfect portion size. Dessert was a stunning finale, passion fruit and mango brulee with home made short bread (£6.95) the dish looked as divine as it tasted. Exuding a combination of vanilla, lemon and mango flavours the brulee was perfection with devilishly good sugar coated homemade shortbread. After dinner be sure to explore some underground glamour in the secret bar below where you can enjoy the best Martinis in the city!

ake a step back in time to a world of afternoon tea and scones, cakes and pastries and, of course, piping hot tea. Steeped in history, the Britannia Adelphi, which is the largest in Liverpool, takes you back to those glory days when time stood still every afternoon as people stopped for tea. In its heyday the Adelphi was the majestic centre of Liverpool's city and walking through their front entrance you can see why by the stunning architectural features.
T
In fact one of the rooms of the Titanic was based upon a room in the Adelphi While time has not been unkind to the building, fashions have changed and while some seek the comfort of modern boutique hotels, you cannot beat the old fashioned cosiness of the Britannia Adelphi with its impressive architraves and enormous windows Stopping for afternoon tea in the grand lounge, which has recently been recarpeted and painted, it was a refreshing change to sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet, which at times seemed erry. We had two pots of tea and the children had hot chocolates served with lashings of whipped cream and chocolate shavings. It was served on a lovely silver tray covered in crisp doyles, adding to the quaintness of the afternoon. Very Miss Marple. The cake selection was a surprise. There were individual servings of lemon meringue pie, ginger cake, a fruit cheesecake with passion fruit topping, chocolate slices. The children were also given a plate of biscuits and some hot buttered tea cakes. Even the baby did not miss out with a serving of the Adelphi Iced Surprise, which was iced water with orange and lime cordial. Other offerings from the menu included freshly cut sandwiches, scones and cherry cake. In all, a very civilised way to spend a Sunday afternoon

Red Door Opening The RED DOOR neighborhood bar and kitchen opened in West Kirby last week. The former funeral Parlour on Grange Road, was bought by entrepreneurs Tim Bacon and David Hinds in 2009 and has been transformed into a stylish bar in an eclectic hybrid of a traditional pub, which meets cool classic New York loft style. An extensive wine and cocktail menu, is complimented by a food menu which has been designed for sharing. A selection of small plates served tapas style runs alongside top quality burgers and sandwiches. The chilled vibe from this cool neighborhood bar and kitchen should be a welcome addition to the seaside town of West Kirby.

Horoscopes May 2010 with
GAYNA
ARIES (21st Mar - 20th Apr)
Leo (23rd Jul - 22nd Aug)
Sagittarius (22nd Nov - 21st Dec)
There's a strong beginning for you this month, powerful male influences are at work, sweeping a change and granting you the honours. You are focused on the overall feeling of happiness from success and harmony, it may be a while to reach that emotional fulfilment but you know it's in the pipeline.
You possess inner wisdom at its deeper level, action and consciousness. This month bring that potential into your life with very strong possibilities you have not realised, though you can sense them as possible. Action must follow or the potential will never be realised. In your career you work well with others and for some new employment and general good luck is offered, this helps you to bring new hope to lasting family contentment and material security.
Even though a financial meltdown is occurring this can also signify the hardship you get when hitting a breakthrough, so no wonder amidst it all you're joyous, vibrant and have reserves of strength. You understand that perhaps you don't always need to conform to societies governed way of life and let things be unorthodox sometimes.
Taurus (21st Apr - 20th May) There's potential for future advancement as you begin building the foundations for future with communications and plans coming together. To start you are ready to move on from a situation, way of life or from person where you feel you've gained enough from. In your love life this month emphasises a stable relationship linked with domestic happiness. However there may be some confused thoughts with your closest of relations resulting in scattered energy where the options given are not so clear.
Capricorn (22nd Dec - 19th Jan) Virgo (23rd Aug - 22nd Sept) There's change and transformation this month which is a blessing in disguise, just try not to hold a breaking wall together and let the collapse happen so that you can build a better one from the ruins. You are able to self rely on yourself this month amongst the worry and uncertainties you are already a self motivator. Happiness is on the cards although you may not see the dark clouds moving away slowly.
Gemini (21st May - 21st Jun) There's a realisation that it's time of stability and order in a person's life, as you indicate being the person who holds great power, either objective or emotional. The challenge is to focus on those who are detached or experiencing discontentment which had been more harmonious in the past, especially with a family member as someone feels neglected or could this be you?
Cancer (22nd Jun - 23rd Jul) There are unjust laws in a society where stability takes precedence over morality and if the entire system is corrupt, producing only bad rulers, then stability becomes the enemy of morality. Be aware as it is suggested this month you're negativity, worrying and dream state mind can zap you into immaturity with the inability to make harsh decisions and carry them through. However in your career your mindset is totally different, depicting that of a victorious gladiator overcoming hurdles, so the advice is to keep up front with clarity of mind in other areas of your life. In your love life you are feeling sorrowful, there's regrets and sadness but a new hope emerges as the healing stage takes precedence. With your closest of relations your nervousness, exhaustion and the need to withdraw for a while is being detected.
You are entering into a period of an active life anticipating great success. Still there are difficulties at present in your career but there's a certain sense of mystery about you, you are ready to form your ideas in a business partnership and to trust your intuitions. In your love life through good social gatherings there's an ease of communication and the flow of new ideas, so you work towards a happier relationship. Amongst conflicts, misunderstanding and frustrations with your closest of relations a compromise is possible if both parties are open to criticism.
Libra (23rd Sept - 23rd Oct) There may be quarrels between friends this month, just be aware that you don't bring it to work as a further imbalance could be possible. You understand that you need emotional re-evaluation, for the stagnation, delayed communications to misunderstandings, and delayed success in certain areas such as finances are also examined.
Scorpio (24th Oct - 21st Nov) There's pessimism but still you are committed on what you are working towards this month, in work and relationships which will reap you rewards in future. Although in your love life there's unhappy moments, perhaps interference from another which creates mental rifts but in this suspended activity nothing seems to fall into place, so you may resolve to not taking any risks in general. You want security and domestic harmony which leads to earthly paradise, but for now confronting your financial matters is not in your agenda.
Aquarius (20th Jan - 18th Feb) Due to your struggle for personal independence and the repressed creativity in your career, its time you're practical using logic and mind for problem solving. Time to take control of material aspects, creating jobs, buying property, make definite changes, bring ideas into concrete reality with discipline and direction. This is just a short version of your 'mover and shaker mission statement'.
Pisces (19th Feb - 20th Mar) Happy as you are, there are millions of things you dream of doing, re-doing and completing, especially with your closest of relations you could find some tasks or conversations you thought has reached its finish line to being only halfway its mark. In your love life there's indecision, or a feeling of being talked into a scheme you may regret later, the advice is do some back-planning, look at the underlying causes then make a final choice.
