SO, YOU THINK YOU ARE NOT UK DOMICILED? Don’t die before you read this! Individuals acquire a domicile of origin. A legitimate child born in the lifetime of his father acquires the father’s domicile. In other circumstances the domicile of origin may be the mother’s. Domicile of choice can arise where a person resides in a new jurisdiction intending to fix his chief residence there permanently or indefinitely. Strong evidence is required for a change of domicile of origin to that of choice. Convincing steps must be taken to show a different country has become their homeland and ties with the UK have been severed. Just acquiring residency elsewhere does not necessarily result in a change of domicile.
2
HMRC state that “an individual might genuinely believe he is domiciled in a particular territory, but objective analysis of the facts could prove that to be wrong. An HMRC enquiry
can be extremely wide ranging, deeply personal, time consuming and also involve family and friends.” HMRC have published under HMRC RDRM23080 four pages of information and documents they might request which gives an idea of the scope and depth of evidence required so that a picture of an individual’s background, lifestyle and intentions is obtained during a domicile enquiry. HMRC or the UK Courts would probably review your life and attempt to infer your overall intentions. Whilst an individual would need to act as though they
wanted to live overseas forever, rather than simply saying it was the intention to do so, written statements to this effect can be persuasive. These can include reference to domicile in your will, swearing an Affidavit and having a Funeral Plan. With other evidence, these can be advantageous in persuading HMRC that an individual had established a non UK domicile of choice. Even if an individual is non UK domiciled, assets held in the UK at death can be assessed to IHT and consideration should be given to utilisation of trusts or moving them offshore. For information and assistance in these matters please contact Wayne Barnett FCA, MIPW, STEP Affiliate on 26600780 or email at info@maplebrookservices. com

Officers will also be handing out penalties for failing to renew a vehicle’s insurance policy, having the vehicle tested for its roadworthiness and exhaust emissions (MOT)
and settling road tax obligations. The new law now see speedsters fined up to â‚Ź5 for each kilometre they are caught over the limit.
Heftier fines have been handed out for speeding, not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone whilst driving . The law also includes inflating fines for speeding, drink-driving, not wearing a crash helmet or seat belt, and reckless driving and parking in nondesignated areas.

FLOORS & WALLS SETUP BY AHMAD JARADAT IN 2018 Ahmad is a specialist in home decor with 24 years experience. Whilst an artist who sells his own paintings on canvas, he also supplies blinds, pergolas, astroturf and rugs. He said, "I have been always interested and love art, specially abstract, started as hobby, then my wife encouraged me to put them for sale. I like to paint things that not even I can do the same one again. Most of my paintings have emotions and a personal story behind each one and I try to reflect that with the colours I use and my imagination. I have never been to an art college. I am self taught." Speculating on the new trends for winter he says, "This winter its all mustard khaki green and dark blue. Minimal ". 12

HOMEOSTASIS3
= BALANCE OF MIND BODY AND SPIRIT
"Homeostasis3 is the ability to maintain a relatively stable internal state that persists despite changes in the world outside. All living organisms, from plants to puppies to people, must regulate their internal environment to process energy and ultimately survive." The Louka family in Larnaca have created a respectable wellness and holistic health network/ family business in Cyprus named “HOMEOSTASIS3”. It was created by the herbalist expert Kyriacos Louka. Together with his wife and daughters Margarita and Gkloria Louka, they have established themselves as recognised advocates of natural health in Cyprus. Kyriacos stumbled across herbal remedies 23 years ago, after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour and spent his time travelling to the USA for life-saving 20
operations. He said, “I had several operations and I was in a lot of pain. I was depressed and I wanted it to end. I was given a book about Aloe Vera which had a recipe inside. I tried it and I was impressed with how much it improved my situation. I wanted to find out more, and that’s when I started looking into natural remedies.” He studied in Athens and the U.K. history and herbalism. Today, as a certified Herbalist, he has dedicated his life towards helping others.“

Gkloria joined the business after undergoing a long hour jaw surgery that left her with excruciating pain that painkillers couldn’t relief.
HOMEOSTASIS3 are especially proud of their approachable pricing structure.
She said, “I have always been around herbal remedies with my dad but never paid much attention until I was in so much pain from my broken jaw, my head was the size of a basketball and the painkillers weren’t working. I remember lying in the bathroom panicked and “paralyzed”, I couldn’t move and my parents had to carry me to hospital. There I was given two shots to numb the pain, but that was it, I was partly numb but not out of pain. My dad pleaded me to take one of his remedies. I took one sip and I am not joking, within three minutes the pain vanished. The doctors said it should have taken me 18 months but I recovered in six, we were all amazed. After that I wanted to learn more about the power of nature.” Gkloria is a naturopath, metamorphic technique practitioner and reiki
They said, “We consult local farmers that need new ideas about profitable plantations, we perform a study on what the optimum ideas for plantations are for their location. BREATH MEDICINE Breathe yourself to Wellness
W
ithout doubt, if there was a single truth that humanity could agree on across all cultures and religions, it would be that 'breath is life'. Breathing is the first and last thing you do. Your breathing directly influences your body chemistry, your behaviour, even the thoughts you choose to think and which prespective you use to interpret your environment. How you breathe influences every decision you make. Since your breathing rhythm is key to your experience of the world and your ability to survive and thrive in it, surely it makes sence to master the best breathing
22
rhythms for every occasion. For those wondering, yes, of course sexual pleasure is also directly linked to your breath and greatly enhanced by deep rhythmic breathing. So, even more motivation to profect your breathing mastery. The science behind the power of breath is vast and complex. Luckily I can give you a few key life hacks without diving deep into the workings of your body chemistry. The first breath life hack is well known: To stop feeling stress, anxiety, low mood and even cravings slow your breath. When you are stressed cortisol, the 'stress hormone' is produced. Taking slow deep breaths slows your heart rate, allows more oxygen to enter our blood stream gets your brain to relax. This process also produces more endorphins, the 'feel good' chemicals that enhance your mood.
Ekaterina Sophia in Larnaca The second breath life hack for the more curious minds, is learning the Indian pranayama practices. Many of them are very simple, yet effective. You can use them to improve consention, aid weight loss and even encourage body regeneration. To conclude I ask for you to notice your breathing. Slow down your breath rhythm as much as you can in normal life circumstances for clarity of mind and inner peace. When wearing a mask, practicing slowing down your breathing can greatly reduce the feeling of inability to breathe. In the modern world your most powerful weapon is your breath! Breathe yourself to Wellness. Join Ekaterina for meditations at The Tree of Life in Larnaca, Thursdays 6pm
S PI R ITUALITY
WITH PSYCHIC MEDIUM AND HEALER IRENE ORPHANIDES How did you get into spirituality? I was brought up Greek Orthodox, but I was lucky to have a mum who allowed me the freedom to question the faith. I had a lot of my own experiences that did not fit into the regular religious experiences and I needed to have answers. I felt there was a greater power we were not tapping into that was limiting us and our evolution as beings I just didn't know what. So I began my exploration into books of different cultures, and religions to get a greater understanding of spirituality as a whole. Why do you believe it is not a gift? I believe every person has the ability to be a psychic, a medium, and a healer. Some are more able to move naturally into these states without realizing, however, to do them proficiently as in everything it takes a lot of work and practice. Nothing is a gift; it is an ability that needs training and practice
for you as the medium/ psychic/healer to give a beautiful experience to your recipient. Investing time and effort for your abilities is like a musician tuning his instruments, you may have a natural ability for something, but no one was born from the womb playing the piano. It takes practice and time. Without development, you are only really touching the surface of your abilities. What can you learn from spirituality? I believe if you are connected to source or god whatever you resound with, this helps us live our best version. Understanding that we truly are one not only with source/ god but with everyone and everything. You can experience the love and acceptance you may crave from yourself and expand outwards, with spirituality the power belongs to you. You are accountable as everything starts with you. With that in mind, you change your actions, you shift from feeling like a victim and helpless to taking
responsibility and being mindful of your actions. How do you help other people and the services you offer? STAR QUALITY
Actor Chris Hemsworth on a life away from the lens.
C
hris Hemsworth may be one of the biggest stars in Hollywood but he’s happiest when he’s at the beach. “I know people want to imagine I spend all my life a showbiz parties but it’s really not me,” he begins. “Perhaps in the early days it was good fun to soak up the limelight a bit, but as you get older that whole thing becomes less and less attractive, and you actually grow to hate it.” His childhood was spent embracing the outdoors, going after outward bound pursuits and anything that meant fitness, health and oxygen. “I think getting the best out of life normally comes back to looking out for very simple things and recognising how important they are,” he continues. ”We live in a world that promotes wealth and excess and stardom and all that flashy stuff, but real joy and satisfactions comes from people and nature around

you. That, for me, is the best way to live.” Friendly, funny and charming, the 37-yearold Thor star and dad of three has definitely reclined back into family life after a chaotic decade in front of the camera. The acceleration with which the Aussie actor suddenly leapt into
our consciousness in Australian soap Home and Away in 2004, progressing to Star Trek and A Perfect Getaway, ultimately paved the way for his portrayal of Marvel hero Thor. With a role that combined comic book legacy with incredible special effects and, of course, a need to bulk up for a role in a
way he had never done before, Hemsworth accepted as well that his star was about to rise into a new place. The hugely successful sequels and spin-offs duly arrived, while other lead roles in big-budget movies such as Rush, Snow White and the Huntsman, In the Heart of the Sea and last year’s Men in Black: International have seen the actor assume film icon status. “The fame thing is exciting but, at my core, the biggest thrill is being an actor, having fun with these roles and creating art. Sometimes that comes about slowly on a project and elevates the further forward it goes; other times you just have to glance at the script for a few moments to understand the power and potential of what lays in front of you.” Certainly, the impact made by his portrayal of Thor has, ironically, given Hemsworth the licence to move away from the character. “It’s probably fair to say the break from the industry has come at the right time for me. Whatever you do, you always want to go out on a high, and such has been the scale of the last few movies I‘ve done, it makes you feel like you can have a break from
things without too much to prove.” “Ultimately, I want our children to grow up with the same kind of close spirit that my brothers [actors Luke and Liam Hemsworth] and I experienced,” he says. “My father was surfing and playing ball with us, and our mother was always there keeping us in line. My parents encouraged us to do what we wanted without ever trying to control us.” “I grew up on cattle and buffalo stations in the Northern Territory Australia and then my family and I moved back to Melbourne and then down the coast.“ “Those kinds of experiences helped shape me and my brothers’ way of looking at the world and making us more adventurous. Traveling, meeting different kinds of people and exploring different places will teach you more about life than you can pick up from reading books.” As well as exploring their unique surroundings, returning home has also offered the opportunity to kick back and chill. That said, it’s not all rest and relaxation for Hemsworth – he has a new language to master given his wife, Elsa
Pataky, the model and actress, originates from Madrid. “Elsa speaks Spanish to our kids and everyone’s fluent in Spanish in the house… except for me!” he laughs. “I’ve always been meaning to learn the language but have never managed to do it. My kids love speaking in another language, though, and I’m happy that they will grow up able to speak both English and Spanish.” “Give me another year and I’ll get it,” he laughs. The family’s ability to travel may be somewhat hampered by the restrictions on global movement that we are all experiencing; and that slowdown is matched by the dormancy of the studios. Hemsworth does at least have What If?, a Thor TV series to look forward to, plus a followup to the Netflix series Extraction. Although most things remain on hold, the actor doesn’t mind – he has always been a man who can see the bigger picture. “There are much more important things going on at the moment than film and TV.“ “We will all come back stronger, I am sure, and I look forward to that day.” 27

Lifestyle chats to Keely Griffiths owner of Be Well With Keely What services do you offer - I offer a holistic approach to health and wellness for women over 40 going through the transition of perimenopause and menopause. Each package can include an exercise program, nutrition and lifestyle skills, hypnosis, mindfulness and life coaching, all tailored to the client’s specifications and needs. What is your background - I have an education background, being a primary school teacher and headteacher with a BEd and MAEd. I began coaching after I had suffered depression and weight gain a couple of years ago. After my recovery I wanted to put what I had learned to good use by helping others. Why do you recommend a wellness coach to someone - a coach is always on your side. She will be your cheerleader 28
on good days, your shoulder on bad days. She will ‘keep it real’ and keep you accountable to your goals. A wellness coach, in particular, works holistically in that all aspects of your life can be explored and improved. What transformations can you see in your clients - I want my clients to feel natural and comfortable in their own skin. Once they listen to what their bodies are telling them they have confidence in themselves and a new purpose for the future. The specific transformation is dependent on their needs and goals.
What advice do you give to someone looking to make a change - start today. The smallest of changes add up to amazing transformations. However, if you are always looking to ‘start next…’ it will never happen. Get an accountability buddy whether a coach you pay for, a family member or a friend - someone that you tell your goals and holds you to working towards them.
Do you think this year has had an impact on the way people are seeing how their lives are turning out - this year has been one of great change and reflection, a huge wake up call for many. There are many things that I know I will not take for granted anymore thanks to what has happened. How people go on from this only time will tell, but I hope that one of the things they take away is a greater appreciation of their health and wellness.

IT’S WORLD DIABETES DAY 14 NOVEMBER
6 tips to help take control of Type 2 Diabetes by Dr. Sarah Brewer. too much of a struggle, 1. Try a more plant focused diet Following a healthy more plantbased diet (low fibre, low-glycaemic index with only healthy carbs such as wholegrains, pulses, fruit and vegetables),can help with managing the condition. 2. Dust off your running shoes! Step up your exercise. Guidelines recommend at least 2.5 hours of moderate intensity physical activity per week, such as brisk walking or cycling or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity (such as running or playing football) spread over the week. 3. Ditch your sugary mixers Ensure that your alcohol intake is within healthy limits or, if you can, give up alcohol altogether for a while and measure the difference in your mood, blood sugars and weight. Alcohol is high in calories and carbs and also reduces your willpower to resist unhealthy foods! If this is
try making healthier changes – when drinking spirits always add a low calorie, or diet, mixer rather than one containing sugar and remember that fruit juice can be high in sugar too.
4. Swap milk for dark chocolate Forget milk or white chocolate goodies and opt for dark chocolate instead – the higher the cocoa solid content, the better. Dark chocolate has a lower sugar content and more antioxidant polyphenols, which have protective effects on circulation. 5. Avoid excess stress when possible When you feel emotionally stressed, your body goes into Fight or Flight mode, which is driven by the adrenal hormones: adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol. As well as making your heart pump faster and your pulse race, these hormones increase your blood pressure, make your breath more rapidly, tense your muscles and cause blood glucose levels to
rise to provide instant energy. These effects prime you to fight or flee and when this expected physical activity does not occur, the effects are prolonged, including the raised glucose level. 6. Support your partner When you settle down with a partner, you will tend to adopt some of their habits too. Research reveals that once a couple start living together, they’re three times more likely to become obese than those who live separately. This is probably down to sharing obesityrelated behaviours, such as choosing unhealthy snacks and watching TV, or playing computer games, instead of exercising. Rather than encouraging each other to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle, they are more likely to encourage negative behaviours so they won’t feel so bad about over-indulging alone. Apparently this tendency is strongest once a couple has lived together for at least two years” explains Dr. Sarah Brewer. Instead of watching your favourite Netflix series, whilst binge eating, encourage your partner to come with you on a brisk winter's walk instead!

TH EATR E
Lifestyle meets Theatre founder Catherine Beger Where did your passion for acting and directing come from? I come from a family entrenched in the arts: poets, opera singers, actors and eccentrics. The initial passion was to be a novelist or journalist, but the discovery of the transformative nature of the theatre was huge. To be able to take the pictures in your head, given by a good story and go the extra step by recreating them on the stage was magic. To be able to embrace empathy as one of the greatest human skills, and enhance that ability in young people; a fantastic opportunity. To work with young actors on their stories and give them the creative ownership and platform to be heard is empowering and therefore political. To mentor and journey next to hungry minds full of questions and potential; inspiring. Every performance artist that devises and directs a theatre story, has at their fingertips all these amazing resources, and then of course, the ultimate creative

force of the imagination I have spent the last 25yrs celebrating that realization of possibilities. Theatre work is diverse, exciting and no day, no workshop, no performance is the same. My work with young people is testament to that. I have worked and toured in countries all around the world, met fantastic people and shared much joy. We are going through an unprecedented crisis within the performing arts now, and the effects are catastrophic. I really pray for better times. Why is acting beneficial for young people and adults? For me, the skills acquired through
improvisation and devising original theatre are above and beyond, and when applied to classical text work, make it all the more richer. All this applies equally to children, but they are easier to mold and often braver to embrace new ideas because they are children and ‘play’ is a fundamental part of growing up. Adults often need to be unlocked and reminded how to play, to re-see their creative potential and to strip away all the social masks of fitting in and being what others want them to be. A huge amount of my work with adults is about re-instilling confidence and teaching that it is
ok to make mistakes – that some of our best creativity can come out of those mistakes, if only we are brave enough to take a risk. Have you used your acting training to help you through the pandemic? Yes on many levels. Generally, I think being creative helps no end as you are never at a loss of what to do. Initially Lockdown as a concept was scary as all my classes with children had to stop and teaching theatre online was tricky – therefore as a self employed single mum, I was in a predicament. My first effort, was to set up a group called “Mission Create” for kids. I had around 300 members worldwide and would set two creative missions a week. The children could respond through sending photos and videos of sketches, dance routines, paintings, improvs, poems etc as a response to the mission. Secondly for every day of Lockdown from mid-March, my daughter and I made theatre sketches inspired from BBC comedies to classic movies to Disney. Everything from Fawlty Towers to Charlie Chaplin, Star Wars to Frozen, and people soon began to follow our efforts.
Eventually we were included on RT news in Russia, used as a model for Media Post Grad students at University of Cyprus, and featured in the Cyprus Mail. In addition, I would film storytelling performances to show twice a week for families. All this was done on mobile phone camera. Finally my adult class took the plunge. We met on Zoom once a week and decided to make a theatre movie, called “A Woman Alone” A seventy minute theatre movie made in isolation. Six women, from six different countries, in social isolation, play the role of one woman locked in her apartment by her husband. The actresses self filmed their scenes on mobile phones during quarantine. Directed virtually, with zoom group feedback, the theatre movie resonates with all those experiencing Lockdown The claustrophobic nature of the play and that of the actresses own lives, are suddenly intertwined. The implicit message, is that storytelling, crosses all boundaries - even imposed isolation. This movie raised 4,000 euros for charity and has also been screened in Australia. I will shortly release it on Social Media for anyone to watch.
What strengths do you draw from it? I think theatre is a very generous art form. It encourages a sense of the human qualities – empathy, compassion and creation. Being part of that, working as part of a team, and knowing all the amazing artists I have been privileged to work with, sharing 21 years of creativity with generations of children in Cyprus, makes life so rich. So despite the passing of years and a slow reduction in energy levels as I enter my late 40’s, my daughter and my work, keep me shining and forever 21 years at heart and always ready to embark on a new creative journey.

he construction of the luxury Marina continues in Ayia Napa and hopes to take the resort to a new level of international development. According to Natas Pilides, Deputy Minister of Cyprus, the newly built marina will make a great contribution to the development of marine tourism in Cyprus including the revival of the area by turning Ayia Napa into the pearl of the Eastern Mediterranean. Ayia Napa marina is a unique project not only for Cyprus, but also for the entire Eastern Mediterranean, with the latest equipment, Natas said. The opening of the yachts in Ayia Napa followed the exercises of the Cyprus Navy at marina sites, during which five vessels participated in a trial launch to check the technical characteristics and operational capabilities of the under construction marina. A military source informed CNA that the

GOVERNMENT GREEN LIGHTS LIVE EVENTS AT PETRA TOU ROMIOU
T
he government’s environmental department has given the go-ahead for live events to be staged at Petra tou Romiou in 2021 despite harsh criticism from environmentalists. Petra tou Romiou, also known as Aphrodite’s Rock, is one of the most important natural landmarks in Cyprus, and falls under the protection of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas within the EU. The government has approved a dedicated ecological assessment outlining the conditions
36
that live events at the site have to respect. All must take place at least 200 metres away from the coast to avoid disturbing the natural habitats of the protected bird species in the area. Lighting must also remain dim for the same reason. Despite this, the Environmental Movement raised concerns about utilising the area for concerts and other live events, claiming they would negatively impact its flora and fauna. “Such events are a threat to the historical and
cultural value of Petra tou Romiou,” a spokesman from the Movement said. “It makes no sense to spend significant financial resources on the management and protection of habitats falling under the protection of Natura 2000, and on the other hand, to destroy them with such reckless actions.” The area around Petra tou Romiou is home to one of the rarest birds in Cyprus, the Eleonora’s Falcon, which normally comes to breed from April until November.

‘MUSIC IS HEALING, IT REALLY IS A POWERFUL THING NOT TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY’ JOAN JETT WAS SPOT ON THERE!
I was temporarily healed recently, when a spur of the moment idea of putting together a pool party with LIVE music actually happened. Two great local bands – RUSTX and FUSE fired up Blue Spice in Protaras for an amazing pool party supporting Cyprus Rocks Festival ’20. The fourth Cyprus Rocks couldn’t take place this year but organizer Mario Ramjhun and Blue Spice created a rocking day full of LIVE music for Cyprus Rocks supporters who flew over from the U.K. and locals. The vibe was powerful and the event a success! #bringbacklivemusic New music anyone? Check out Larnaca based alternative rock band, The Smallest Creature, who have just released
their new album, MAGIC BEANS. An album, with influences seeping through from the likes of Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and more, but which definitely has their own identity stamped on it. With no possibility of having a LIVE album presentation event, head over to Spotify, iTunes or YouTube, to hear this 11 song album that I’ve been listening to for the last week nonstop since its release.
Heading over to Ramsgate, U.K. now, I must direct you to a fabulous band that I discovered during lockdown. Hello Collateral!! Most of us love at least one Bon Jovi song, so it’s safe to say that you will like this band. Familiarize yourself with this 5 member band whose music reminds me of the earlier Bon Jovi material with catchy Rock tunes and melodic tones. ’IN IT FOR LOVE’

is one of my favourites and promises to wake up your senses. Collateral exploded onto the music scene in 2018 where their debut album went straight to number 5 in the UK Rock charts which then manoeuvred them into the direction of supporting major bands, EVEN Jon BonJovi on his Mediterranean cruise (WOW!!) Their music is a blend of Rock and country and a delight to have on repeat. Also worth mentioning is gorgeous front man Angelo Tristan, has just landed the role to play Steve Tyler in a new AEROSMITH biopic…. how ‘AMAZING’ is that?! Keep music alive !

“Our restaurant, our life’’
Our dream was to one day create good service for tourists that would make their holidays here in Cyprus, even more special. This dream came true in 1989, where we established a small family business in Ayia Napa, a restaurant, as I (Theo) am a trained chef and my brother (Peter) is a trained waiter. Since then we have tried our best to provide as much satisfaction as possible to our customers.
There’s a reason why Flames Restaurant is listed as one of Trip Avisor’s top ten restaurants in Ayia Napa. Dedicated to providing an excellent service, its winning mix of friendly staff, a great atmosphere and delicious food has delighted diners since it was established 1989. If traditional Cypriot dishes are what your after, Flames is the place to go. You’ll find House Specialities, Steak, Grills, Fish, Pasta Vegan and Vegetarian Dishes on the Menu. Not to mention its fabulous Wine list and homemade desserts - all chosen to complement your meal perfectly.
