Hello December
LOCAL COUNCIL WORKER CHOSEN TO PICK LIVERPOOL’S
OFFICIAL CHRISTMAS TREE FOR 2021
What a year it’s been! I have made some wonderful friends and enjoyed one of the best summer’s of my life. I have realised I am stronger than I thought, having to deal with tough situations and emotional upheaval. But you know, that’s life isn’t it and I am grateful fo be alive and living it to my fullest potential. Hard times are meant to test our resilience and make us appreciate all the good in our life.
Mum of two Jacki Howarth, whose husband died in December 2019, has been chosen to pick Liverpool’s official Christmas tree after winning a council staff competition.
I have enjoyed some incredible moments, sharing my time in Liverpool and Cyprus. I enjoyed the Positive Awards earlier in the year and looking forward to that coming around in the April next year. It is so humbling and inspiring to hear other people’s stories of resilience and determination to improve themselves. In September I ran my first fitness bootcamp with Papa Luckman and really looking forward
Jacki Howarth, who is a Private Sector Housing Enforcement Support Officer, travelled to a tree plantation in the West Midlands to select
the 55ft Norwegian Spruce, which will lightup the city centre over holidays.
Dubbed ‘Mission
to next year’s events. We’ve added many dates to the bootcamps in 2023, there’s no better place than to workout alfresco by the gorgeous sea. I also had Liverpool Fashion Week and the Lifestyle Awards, both returning next year along with my Los Angeles Lifestyle Fashion Show. The world is a small place when you dream big.
Whilst 2022 has been a testing time for business, I have survived another year and I am so grateful for the all the support from my readers and advertisers. Without you I would not be here.
“Motivation is what gets you started. Determination is what helps you finish what you started.”
Wishing you a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled will health, wealth and happiness.

But Jack’s problems are only just beginning. After legging it up the new tree
to get away from his mum, he’s found something even more terrifying. A fearsome giant is after him because Jack was trying to pinch his bird. What the fee fi fo fum is going on?

Melissa Harper Hairdressing
Ihave been in the hair and beauty industry for 23 years.
I started when I was 15 in a local salon while I was still in school. I offer mobile for people who cant get out and I am also based at Miss M Beauty Salon in Croxteth.
I offer hair styling, beauty, nails, massage, and anti wrinkle treatments. At the moment I am also studying level 4 advanced beauty and teaching course. I started my business with a few quid my dad gave me as I always wanted to be my own boss.
This season is my favourite as I am loving winter colours this season for hair: chestnut browns, copper blonde vibrant reds and face frame.
I love my job because no two days are the same.
I love making people feel good about themselves and give people a boost. It's not a job, as a hairdresser I give advice when people are feeling low. Getting your hair done makes people feel better about themselves. Seeing people smile or even cry after I have given them a treatment because they are so happy makes me burst with pride that I have made someone smile that day.
I work in the Bridge Community Centre every Tuesday 10am3pm. It's run by volunteers. The people who go the community
centre are on low income, some have not had a hair cut in 10 years as they cant afford it. I charge low prices there to help people of our city of Liverpool who are struggling and suffer with their mental health, anxiety and depression.
The people who use the centre are all ages.
I just love every Tuesday going there, I have a ball. I have a little sing song with the people there and lift their spirits. It's important to me to help people, especially at the moment in the current economic climate. We all need to stick together as a community and support each other because one day it could be me going to the community centre for the food bank or a cheap hair cut. You never know what's around the corner.
I love going for a chat and hope I cheer someone up that day. The people tell me they love me but I love them too. I cant wait to celebrate my 11 years in business this month and celebrate a very busy month in the salon leading up to Christmas I love the Christmas spirt, it's also my birthday this month and my brother's 30th birthday on Christmas day. Winning the Lfestyle Award Best Hair Stylist meant so
much to me. I couldn’t believe I won!!
I started my business as a single mum when my son was only four years old. I worked all hours to provide for my son, we didn’t have much but we had each other and my bills for my house were paid, so my award goes to my son, Taylor. If I didn’t have him I wouldn’t be where I am today.
I didn’t think I would make it after lockdown as I got anxiety from not being able to work and not being able to do anything. At the same time I also had a misscarriage so the last two years have been tough but I resilient and these things make us stronger and prouder to carry on.

Lifestyle meets Jacqueline Ferguson, owner of Mayfair Renew Aesthetics on Rodney Street
Moving from London to Liverpool was a big move, we were just coming out of the restrictions of the pandemic, I wanted to flourish in a city that was friendly, by the sea, fun and glamorous. knowing that the women of Liverpool have really embraced and understood aesthetic treatments was a big deciding factor for me to chose to move to this great city, and to also upgrade my training and open a clinic offering advanced treatments and facial therapies. Liverpool
ladies are investing more than ever before on beauty and aesthetics to look their youthful and radiant best. Liverpool is definitely the beauty capital of the UK in terms of pampering, beauty regimes and the latest aesthetic procedures, so why wouldn't I want to be here!!
I have over 30 year's experience in state-of-theart products, aesthetics and skin facial treatments, and have given treatments to some of the world's most glamorous and successful women in London. Learning my skills
in the luxurious, advanced and well-equipped salon of Harrods, Selfridges spa and the Dorchester spa in the 90’s.
I eventually opened my own day spa/clinic on 40 Curzon Street, Mayfair, just behind Park Lane, offering aesthetics and other advanced skin treatments to my elite and international client base.
I am a fully trained & experienced photographer. When I sold my Mayfair clinic
I wanted a change of lifestyle and wanted to improve my photography skills, I had often been
preparing clients to look good and be confident with their skin, and makeup but was never behind the camera, now I am very much behind the camera, I opened a studio just a few miles passed West London in the leafy town of Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. Still having my connections in central London I had the opportunity to be invited to photograph our late Queen Elizabeth and various other Royal members, this really accelerated my Photography career. If only I had the chance to have given the Queen a facial, then my life’s work would be completed!!!
Now I specialise in female Portraiture, It’s a true passion, I work best in a 1-1 photoshoot plus I’m good at it!
Lifestyle Columnist, Actress, TV and Radio Presenter Claudine Hope Hello Darlings!
It’s December!
The month of Christmas parties, shopping, mulled wine and celebrations. I organised a big event on the 2nd December to raise money for a local charity called The Liberty Centre. The charity supports victims of domestic violence in ways of counselling, re-homing and starting life over again. In my local area there are a number of mum’s and children in a refuge and safe house that have terrible trauma.
My goal was to raise £1000 so The Liberty Centre could take the children with their mum’s on a Christmas adventure day out. I am so happy to announce I reached my goal.
My event which was called “The Christmas Party” was held at Briars Hall Hotel in Lathom. Welcome drinks on arrival were served followed by a delicious three course meal. The amazing Rock Choir to sing for us led by Rock Choir Leader Luke Freeney.
I held a raffle and a live auction with prizes such as a signed Everton football shirt, jewellery from Joseph’s in Ormskirk, Campervan stay by Red Lion Rentals and an overnight stay at The Titanic hotel in Liverpool with lunch at Gino D’ Acampo Old Hall Street restaurant.
The night was sponsored by Portobello Bar in Ormskirk who supplied mini bottles of wine in Gift bags for each person who
bought a ticket. I will continue to support The Liberty centre who are close to my heart.
I want to wish everyone an amazing Christmas with your families and friends and an even better New Year.
See you all again next year in 2023! Merry Christmas. Please check out my new website at www. claudinehope.co.uk and give me a follow on Instagram: claudine_ hope_

Papa’s Top Tips for Winter Training
There is nothing worse than waking up and looking outside at the puddles on the pavement, grey gloomy clouds above and a chill in the air thinking I have to get active today. Before you know it you are turning the lights on, putting the heating on full belt and it is dark outside. If you live in warmer climates then the adjustment is to the season finishing, beach cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs closing until April 2023. It all affects our motivation but an easy excuse not to continue with all the hard work you have put into staying active during the summer. I do not like mentioning the word but Christmas is the easiest excuse not to exercise and lasts until 2023, before you know it you feel sluggish and your clothes tighten.
So to help you keep focused here are Papa’s Top Tips: As a minimum make sure you can stay active at least 3 times a week
• If you go to the gym change your workout routine, more reps less weights, look into various types of training techniques, mix up your cardio with strength conditioning training, but just do short burst of cardio 1-2 minutes, do shorter but more intense sessions, challenge yourself to use every single bit of gym kit in one session for 1 set
of 15 reps, try exercise machines that you wouldn’t normal go on; go to an exercise class.
• If you workout at home, try a pre-recorded on line session, shorten your sessions, try exercises that you have never done before
• Running, cycling, walking and swimming change it up. Leave your house and explore a different route, put in some intervals like getting up those inclines on your route quicker and then have a slow walk to recover; sprint between lampposts and slow it down between the next. Run, walk, cycle your usual route in the opposite direction.
• Speak to a friend and see if they want to team up and do something together, take part in each other’s exercise routine
• If you really cannot be bothered just put your scarf and gloves and go for a walk
• Look ahead into 2023 and see if you want to book onto a challenge as this will focus your kind and keep you motivated. Better still look at attending one of my Bootcamps in Cyprus!
PAPA IN YOUR POCKET – Your personal trainer who can go where you go
I have a new Personal Training
service so I can be with you virtually at the gym. All you need is your mobile phone, some headphones and a selfstick stand. I will then guide you around the gym and be your new gym buddy. If you are nervous about the gym, then take me with you as your new gym buddy. I have tried and tested the concept with Amandamosspr training at a gym in Larnaca, Cyprus…..it was perfect.
What is next for Papa in 2023 I am the only personal trainer in the UK who does Sports Specific Training for Speedway, Grasstrack and Flat Track riders. My pre-season training will run for 3 months from January – March 2023 where we will progress from general strength and cardio conditioning to Sports Specific exercise, finishing in March with Race Specific sessions in your kit helmet and all. The only way to improve your performance is not by going faster but by getting fitter for the demands of racing.

Christmas cleaning tips for a stress-free festive season
Christmas is a magical time of year meant for family, homemade food and presents, but according to a poll conducted late last year, the average Brit spends between four and five hours cleaning their home in preparation for Christmas Day, and the national press have suggested some homeowners go so far as cleaning their homes for over an hour on Christmas day (Source: Mirror Online).
Cleaning expert and Director at cordless vacuum cleaner brand ROIDMI UK Geoff Johnson has revealed his top tips to help you get your home prepped for a stress-free season so your home can stay cleaner and fabulously festive for longer.
Geoff says: “Christmas should be spent enjoying time with friends and family, not worrying about mopping and vacuuming. Spending a bit of time prepping your home for the big day in advance will give you more time to take part in all the festive fun.”
Pesky pine needles
"Vacuuming keeps your home looking and feeling fresh but fallen pine needles are a daily battle over the festive season. When vacuuming, make sure to never use the brush head, especially on hard floors, as this can send those pesky pine needles flying across the room. Only vacuum small sections at a time and remember to empty the bag regularly to avoid blockages. Top tip: Try using a lint roller or Sellotape, this also works on soft furnishings!"
Deep clean the kitchen
“Christmas is a time of year we tend to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so it’s a good idea to prep your kitchen for all the heavy-duty Christmas cooking. A week before the big day you should clean out the fridge and cupboards and throw out old products.”
Clean your decorations
“Christmas decorations spend most of their time hidden away in dusty attics waiting for their time to shine. I recommend giving them a good clean before hanging them up, so they look good as new and impress your guests on Christmas Day."
Invest in cordless "A cordless vacuum cleaner such as the ROIDMI X30 Pro makes cleaning up Christmas day mess more convenient than ever and will make light work of pet hair, pine needles, and spillages. They are light and easy to use and will mean you can spend more time with your feet up watching Christmas movies and less time cleaning.”
Show case your brand, products or services with an epic collection of high resolution images, specifically edited for print and social media.
Based in the Northwest international photographer and award finalist Paul will direct on what is needed to capture the best possible images for your branding. Product Photography, Corporate Events, Promotions, Portfolios.

HOW TO KEEP INDOOR PLANTS WARM IN WINTER
Houseplants need to be kept warm over winter to ensure they stay healthy over the colder months and thrive into Spring.
Despite being inside, plants are still vulnerable to dramatic temperature changes throughout the day, causing the soil to freeze and thaw.
This process could result in heaving, where the roots become exposed, exposing the indoor plants and putting them at risk of disease and withering.
Tips to keep plants warm include insulating your plant pots with bubble wrap and investing in space heaters or heat mats to keep the warmth contained for indoor plants.
Unusually, another tip is to make use of the fridge. This kitchen appliance does produce some warmth out of the top, so by keeping plants there the fridge can act as a useful heat mat at no extra cost.
Remember to ensure plants aren’t over-watered - they’ll require less water than in the warmer months, but do still need watering especially if kept in a humid and dry room. Using a water mister can help with this.
A spokesperson for Garden Buildings Direct said: “Whilst we try and keep ourselves warm this winter, don’t forget to also care for your indoor plants as the colder temperatures set in. Whether you are moving some plants from the outdoors in, or caring for indoor succulents, it’s important to keep them warm this winter.
“There are several budget friendly ways to keep your plants cosy, like using some of that bubble wrap you might have lying around. Wrap it around your plant pots and the air in the bubbles will keep the heat in. Of course there are also options which are more expensive, but also very effective. Investing in heat maps or
space heaters will keep your indoor plants warm year-on-year.
“Unusually, keeping plants on top of the fridge can also help preserve heat, and of course chasing round the sunlight in the warmest room in your house is another great tip for this winter.”
Here are some top tips to keep indoor plants warm this winter:
1. Find the warmest room The easiest way to make sure indoor plants stay an ideal temperature this winter is to find out which room in
to contain as much heat as possible around the plants. Bubble wrap is an effective and affordable way for horticulturists to prevent heat loss during the colder months as the layer of air in the bubbles acts like a double-glazed window.
3. Heat mats
Heat mats can be a bit more expensive, but they are a fantastic option for keeping indoor plants warm as the weather gets colder. Heat mats are thin sheets of plastic which have heating elements inside. The mat is plugged in and the surface heats up. Simply pop any indoor plants on top of the heat mat to help keep them warm.
4. On top of the fridge
This may seem an unusual idea to keep plants warm – but in fact electric fridges act as heat maps themselves. The top of the fridge often produces some heat, so keeping plants on top of the fridge will allow the plants to absorb some heat for no extra cost. It’s also a good idea to wrap the pots in bubble wrap too as the top of the fridge likely won’t provide enough heat alone.
5. Space heaters
Using indoor space heaters for plants is a more costly idea but provides an effective source of heat to keep indoor plants at the right temperature. If using space heaters, make sure that plants aren’t placed directly in front of the heaters, otherwise they could get too hot.
6.
Water indoor plants carefully
the house is the warmest. Make sure that this room has a good level of sunlight during the day and keep moving the plants to the warmest, best lit spot in the room. Every few days rotate the indoor plants to keep an equal amount of sunlight shining on each one.
2. Bubble wrap
Another simple trick to keep indoor plants warm is to wrap layers of bubble wrap around the plant pot
Indoor plants are susceptible to over-watering during the winter months, since they don’t need as much water as they do during the spring and summer. Obviously the plants will still need watering, especially if they are in a humid room. Spraying water mist over the plants will help them grow in the dry air whilst avoiding over-watering. A good tip is to push about 5 cm deep into the soil - if it is completely dry, then it needs more water.

BUSINESS WHY EVERYONE NEEDS TO ADVERTISE
So many times when I approach businesses to help them grow, I get the response that they’re either too busy so “don’t need to advertise” or too quiet and will advertise when things pick up.
If you’re busy you can’t be complacent and expect your customers to come back, you have to give them a reason to return. What if there’s a slump in the economy? Advertising brings you loyalty.
And if you’re quiet then you need to advertise to ensure you’re the first choice for customers to come to.
This is the thing about business. Consistent advertising ensures greater business success. End of. If it didn’t work you wouldn’t see repetition of adverts on the TV, radio and of course in magazines and newspapers.
Think advertising doesn’t work ? Tell that to McDonalds, Coca Cola and the endless brands that are etched in your mind as ones to choose.
Need new trainers?
You’re bound to choose a brand like Under Armour or Nike or Adidas rather than an unbranded one. Why? Because advertising has persuaded you that these are the brands to trust for quality and delivering what they’re supposed to.
One-off adverts don’t work, people need reminding. Advertising gives your business brand loyalty and promotes a positive image, giving you greater exposure for you to target your customers. You may have a restaurant that isn’t busy. But you need to advertise regardless, for when your potential customer is looking for somewhere to go out for dinner, you’ll be the first choice they remember. Advertising makes sure that the consumer knows that when they are in need, your business will be there to help them. A continuous amount of
consumers visiting your business is the first step to increase your sales. The more consumers you have, the more business you will have. Advertising creates business now and in the future.
And advertising encourages repeat business, for once you have got your customers, they’re bound to come back if you’re providing a great service and product. Ultimately, advertising makes your company money – It works. Advertising attracts customers to your business and increases your sales. When consumers see strong and positive advertisements they are more willing to buy and ready to choose your business. Invest in advertising for your business and you will watch it grow and succeed.
Advertising is about creating the desire for your customers. Which is why people love Lifestyle!
Talk to me about a bespoke advertising package to help grow your business. I can make you famous.
