Note from our Award Winning Editor... Welcome to May and I’m feeling marvellous! Possibly because I am off on holiday soon with my gorgeous family. Rhodes beckons and I am looking forward to some authentic greek food! If however, you aren’t able to jet away, then our city plays host to some of the best restaurants in the UK. Check out our regular reviews inside, Carluccios brings you a little taste of Italy and Central Perk has opened as well bringing the flavour of “Friends” in New York. How spoiled are we? This month we have been fortunate to have Philip Armstrong and Tony Burke on the front cover of the magazine, quite possibly the finest fashion designers to ever emerge from Liverpool. We share the same photographer, Matt Ford, who is shooting our billboard poster campaign for Liverpool Fashion Week this month. The images from the shoot will also appear on T shirts for Liverpool Fashion Week which will be on sale this summer alongside tickets for the biggest fashion event outside of London. Keep your eye on the website, www.liverpoolfashionweek.co.uk for details and follow us on twitter and facebook. We also chat to renowned stage hypnotist, Alan Bates, who will be giving a private performance at our fourth birthday party in July, sponsored by Lip Doctor Aesthetics. This is a free event for our advertisers and readers with limited availability so please email me if you wish to be put on the guest list. As always Lifestyle magazine remains the number one choice for advertisers and readers, and soon you will be able to buy a Lifestyle magazine franchise, as we are expanding the business to enable entrepreneurs up and down the country to run their own Lifestyle magazine. Working alongside John Grimes Consultancy, the business is being turned into a franchisable model, I’ll keep you posted on the details. Let’s hope the sun comes out for us this month but even if it doesn’t, have a read of Lifestyle magazine and it will give you a warm glow. Take care until next month. CRUISE LINERS SAIL INTO TO TOWN
L
iverpool City Council’s Cabinet has given the green light to a proposal to award contracts to create a temporary building and parking and drop off facilities, subject to approval of a planning application. It means that by the end of the month, the first cruise liners will be able start and stop in Liverpool – rather than it just being a port of call. Each vessel is worth up to an estimated £1 million to the local economy. The first turnaround cruise vessel – the Ocean Countess - is scheduled to use the facility on May 29 2012. Council Leader Joe Anderson, said: “This is a huge moment for Liverpool and means
for the first time in decades we have the prospect of big liners starting and ending their voyages in the city. Cruising is big business because it means tourists who come here and spend money in the local economy. “The cruise liner terminal has already been a huge success – but this will allow us to take it to the next level because we anticipate huge demand for people to start and end their holidays in Liverpool. Twenty ‘day call’ vessels are already confirmed for Liverpool’s 2012 cruise season with around 30,000 passengers expected, generating an additional £6 million for the local economy.

FIVE MINUTES WITH......
Dress designer to A list stars around the world,
First of all, congratulations on your success. Thank you so much, it’s been a lot of hard work. Myself and my partner Tony Burke Armstrong have built this up, it’s both of us who have built up the brand and we’re incredibly proud of it. How did you get into fashion design? I went to college and met Tony and we just gelled instantly. Then I went to work for Vivienne Westwood and Tony started a business in Ibiza. I started a collection and Tony came onboard and we have been inseparable every since. How much preparation goes into a new collection? Oh my goodness, blood, sweat and tears, as you know in any business. we draw the designs, go to the fabric exhibitions, choose the fabrics, cut the cloth, design each sample piece and then start manufacturing them. Your collections are in Harvey Nichols, tell us about the collaboration. We stock in manchester and Birmingham, we have been told that we are the best performing designer in Harvey Nicks, we can’t get enough dresses to them, they are simply flying off the rails. We plan to go into Leeds later this year. Have you thought about mass production? Yes it’s something we are looking at this year to cope with demand Why do you think people have fallen in love with the Philip Armstrong brand? We have a beautiful product and we sell beautiful clothes. We understand what women want and
how they want to feel when they put on a beautiful garment. And of course we are nice people which helps! You have an address book of A listers longer than an Oscar, (Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Colleen Rooney, Kelly Rowlands......) how did that come about? Some people approached us and we got in touch with others. We spoke to the stylist for the X Factor and things just progressed. Did you ever imagine you would be so successful? Absolutely, it was all planned. We are so busy, not that we’re complaining. Especially in a recession, but we have worked extremely hard and we still pinch ourselves when we take a look at what we have achieved. We are incredibly proud to fly the flag for Liverpool fashion. What do think of Liverpool Fashion Week? We fully support it, it is great for Liverpool but not something we can participate in as we have our own private shows. But you may catch us on the front row this year!”

ooking in the mirror wishing, hoping to be that someone you have always aspired to be. This editorial portrays a girl with hidden ambition, however growing up in an area consumed by negativity, disappointment and failure, naturally obscures her passion, with the fear of being judged by her peers. She looks in the mirror one day and sees her dream, her alter ego, who she transforms into, finding the courage to believe in herself and follow her heart and intuition to achieve her goals. An alter ego is a character that you wish to be, you believe you are and so you become. Idols such as Beyonce, whose alter ego, ‘Sacha Fierce’ is famously unleashed on stage having an immense impact on the millions of individuals watching. If one individual can have have such an impact on the world and they themselves have their own insecurities requiring an alter ego to bring out confidence and passion, it’s easy the world is your oyster and you can do as you so desire - within reason that is... The secret is to believe in yourself, remain positive and you will achieve. Have the inner strength, focus and drive to fulfil your utmost dreams. Do not be afraid to chase your wildest dreams, for they can become reality. Let nobody discourage you, dig deep for your alter ego to give you the courage to jump all hurdles in the way of grabbing hold of your dreams. Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually with the help of your alter ego you will find your way..

appearance of the chin or the prominent horizontal crease below the lower lip, injections of toxin into the chin can improve this. with Dr. Fab Equizi
Botulinum toxin beyond the “3 areas” Most people by now are familiar with the use of botulinum toxin for eliminating wrinkles in the standard 3 areas, the frown lines, across the upper forehead and around both eyes. But what else can you do cosmetically with botulinum toxin? Eye lids. In some cases a small amount of botulinum toxin in the lower lid can help smooth the appearance of skin but the best thing it does here is to give a nice open eyed look by lowering the lid slightly. Gummy smile. Some people when they smile show too much gum over their upper teeth and stretch the upper lip out making it look very thin. Carefully weakening the muscles involved in raising the top lip can have a dramatic effect on the amount of gum showing when smiling, especially when combined with lip fillers.
Droopy mouth corners. Weakening the muscles that pull the corners of the mouth down with botulinum toxin causes the muscles that lift the mouth corners to be a bit stronger, lifting the mouth corners up to give a happier appearance. Again, when combined with fillers under the mouth corner the results can be spectacular. Smoker’s lines. Even in non smokers the powerful muscle action that purses the lips can cause prominent lines and wrinkles around the lips. One of my clients comically describes this as “cat’s bum mouth”! While fillers are my first choice for this, there are occasions where weakening the muscle action with small amounts of botulinum toxin are necessary to get the best results from filling. Pebbly chin Where muscle action causes a bumpy
Saggy jaw line and neck bands. Weakening the platysma muscle of the neck at certain points can eliminate neck bands (think Deirdre Barlow!) As this muscle also has a downward pull on the face, weakening it can tighten up the jaw line. This is often done in combination with fillers in what has been called the liquid face lift. Bulky jaw. Large masseter muscles can give the jaw angles a wide appearance resulting in a masculine look. This muscle can be debulked by a series of botulinum toxin injections over several months to give lower jaw a slimmer appearance. Excessive sweating.
Injections of botulinum toxin injections into the hair bearing skin of the armpit will dry up sweating for 6 months. In some areas this is available on the NHS.

The reason is down to the fact that men tend to have more collagen – a protein that acts like scaffolding for the skin. This, coupled with the increased thickness and oiliness, means that your skin tends to stay firmer for longer.

would hate to be accused of being sexist so this month after a few requests I’m doing grooming for you gents (sorry ladies but I have to try to educate them on good grooming habits to look gorgeous for you all – plus will give you ideas as to what to get him!)
*Furry teeth – so you ‘re heading straight out after work and no toothbrush? Grab an apple and get munching then! The fibres will act as a toothbrush. Already out? Then order a margarita and dip the lime in the salt and rub it across your teeth.
First up is those quick fixes for when you’re short on time *Shaving cuts - if you’re organised then Legends of London alum blocks will sort out any nicks, cuts or shaving burns. Just moisten and apply. £1 for book of 20 www.menareuseless. com
*Fragrance – The perfect solution to having fragrance on the go is CK’s One on-the-go, sturdy and no bigger than a credit card it’s an instant fix. Given that most scents wear off after 4-6 hrs on the skin it means that come clocking off time there’s not a whiff of that mornings scent. £11.50 from www.theperfumeshop.com If you’re suffering from excess BO then get to the men’s and wash those pits with water and a hand towel – rubbing a bit of alcohol will help to kill off the smell as it helps to close the pores.
If you’re not that organised then next best thing is Vaseline – simply clean it up and pop it over the cut ( stops bleeding instantly) *Breakout spots – it’s happened to us all at the worst of times, so get Murad’s Blemish Treatment concealer. The perfect antidote conceals the offending blemish whilst zapping it with salicylic acid. £17 www.nivenandjoshua.com Alternative is toothpaste! Dab a little on, leave for a couple of minutes and rinse off with cold water. This will degrease, dry out and reduce it down. 16 LIFESTYLE

Not better just… different Now there are some men who say there’s no difference between us but apart from the obvious (childbearing, multitasking and an obsession with shopping) skin seperates us. Yes, men's skin really is different to women's ( shock I know), it’s slightly more acidic, oilier
Now for the bad news- research by skincare company Lancôme has shown that men's skin loses its firmness quite dramatically as you enter early middle-age – and the depth of wrinkles around the eyes also increases significantly. In a nutshell, men stave off the ageing process a bit longer than women but when it does happen, it happens big-time – Micheal Douglas look a likes anyone?? The key to preventing wrinkles is moisturising, given that the sun is responsible for around 80% of wrinkles, protecting skin against sun damage is crucial too – whatever the season. So, a routine is a must even for the busiest of gents – here’s a rundown of great essentials *Molton Brown Kalahari Melon Cleansing Fluid (£25) uses fatty acids from the Kalahari melon seed oil to cleanse & protect, fab for even dry skin *ESPA’s Dual Action Shavemud (£19) this doubles up as a mask aswell to really deep cleanse those pores but the shea butter and sweet almond oil means you get the best shave ever *ESPA’s Age Rebel Hydrator (£37) is fantastic, boosts vitality, firms & quenches – must have product *Lab Series BB tinted moisturiser (approx. £35) is great for evening out skintone and has SPF35 to protect with 10 in 1 benefits. Clarins, Collins and Malin & Goetz are other great ranges to try and for those on a budget Boots do some fab products for you chaps, so take a look! Now there is no excuse to have bad skin or to swipe our goodies (yes we can tell when you’ve used it), go forth and get cleansed!!!

HE'S BOLD, HE'S BRASH, HE'S JUST WHAT LIFESTYLE LOVES...... WELCOME OUR NEW COLUMNIST JAIDEN MICHEAL, THE SELF TITLED, "BRITAIN'S MOST BRUTAL BLOGGER." So its official, I'm Liverpool's hottest magazine's, hottest new columnist! With a reputation that makes Simon Cowell look like Pope John Paul, I thought I'd share to the readers of Lifestyle what's making me cringe each month. But of course I have a real soft side (think Snow White with a skin head and tattoos) so I will be sharing the love for anything that's made me smile.
Welcome to what bugs me or what I think is boss. 2) Crocs. Why? As soon as the sun comes out to say hello, a stampede of toe showing creatures decide to get these bad boys out- including my very own mother!! Please mum,I don’t care if they’re comfy, you look like a woolyback Noddy. “But, love, I’ve got new multicoloured ones this year” Is it ok to want to be adopted at the age of 26?
Bug: 1) doing a “demi”. Does every single celeb mum to be have to get their gut out and show the world? I know the national tabloid magazines pay well for this but come on!! Some of you look more like Vicky Pollard with a bad case of IBS than a glamorous sexy pregnant lady. Demi was the original, looked elegant, sophisticated and fresh. Chantelle Houghton on the other hand looks more like “ready to drop” Barbie. Cover up pllleeeeease!!

I don’t care about rumours they bought my footage for Arg to recreate, I don’t care about people saying the new series is boring! I like it! They are BAFTA winners for a reason. And my pal Ricky is smashing it since joining just a few months ago. Every time I see him on screen I’m like a proud mongrel watching her first born give birth to her grandkids. I LOVE HIM! iverpool has it’s own taste of Little Italy now that the restaurant and bar chain, Carluccios, has opened its doors in Liverpool. Merging a sophisticated deli with the most flamboyant display of delicacies, with a sleek cocktail bar provides the perfect sport for a post work/ shopping apertivo with antipasta. Further inside, an inviting restaurant awaits you with a menu based on Antonio Carluccio’s original recipes when he opened his first restaurant in 1991. I took my husband and best friend out for lunch and restaurant was heaving, the atmosphere was electric. The open plan kitchen mean you can see the chefs busy at work, I was rather impressed with how calm they were even though the restaurant was fully booked and how presentable they, and indeed the service staff are But back to the menu and how spoilt for choice were we! with caramelised celeriac and ear crackling. The salmon was soft and delicate and just melted in my mouth. We were treated to Amuse Bouche with the compliments of the chef. This delicate palate cleanser made from camomile jelly with lemon and honey espuma with edible flower confetti to pique our palate, successfully prepared us for the taste explosion that what was to come. I chose the free range chicken breast, with chicken leg lasagne, butternut squash and truffled leeks. The sauce was just exquisite and the meat was tender and juicy. We shared some side orders of glace carrots and mange tout and wilted spinach which were perfectly cooked. For desert I had an Opera, a sophisticated chocolate and orange gateaux with blood red ice cream. The attention to detail on the layering of the cake deserved a round of applause. Simon had the Floating Island, which was poached rhubarb and custard with honeycomb sprinkles. Both desserts demanded to be devoured greedily.
Restaurant Reviews cream. As just when we thought we had finished our exceptional meal, the waitress brought a treasure chest to the table filled with pick and mix sweets and Darling was able to take home a goody bag - a rather nice touch to finish the meal off. The attention to detail is just amazing at Thornton Hall, from the regal decor to the stately staff, you are guaranteed a few hours to put your feet up and experience a unique and delicious dining treat that will leave you feeling extra special. Although we didn't drink alcohol ahead of the school run, the wine list, too, will blow your socks off. The tables are well spaced, (It's intimate without feeling crowded), the food is fabulous, the service slick, the atmosphere as soothing as the sound of gentle rain and the bill very reasonable and is indeed worthy of regular visits for a special treat. 0151 336 3938 Thornton Hall Hotel & Spa | Neston Road | Thornton Hough Wirral | CH63 1JF

agonised over decisions our waiter brought us a delicious selection of warm breads and olives. I could have quite happily picked at that all afternoon! For starters though both Gemma and I selected the Zuppa de Funghi, a rich, salty soup of mushrooms and Italian bacon which was delicious but I had to cut the fat off the bacon, my choice, not necessary, it certainly didn’t detract from the flavour. Simon had the minestrone soup and to be honest, if we were having a short stop gap from shopping, that would have been a perfectly more than adequate lunch. However we we happy to whittle away the afternoon and while we enjoyed our starters the water fussed around Darling, not quite yet ready for kindergarten. a plastic up of sparkling coke, crayons and a fun pack were hastily delivered to the table along with a vase of crunchy bread sticks which kept her amused as she dipped them into her drink. She had the spaghetti bolognese for secondi, while Gemma and I again chose the same dish (we do this a lot). The mushroom risotto was to die for, served with chunky, tendorised chicken pieces. On the side we had
cold green beans in a mint and garlic sauce which were refreshing on the palate. Simon had the beef stew from the special board and was highly delighted with his serving. For desert I managed to find room for the chocolate and amiretto fondant, Gemma had the vanilla panacotta and Simon picked the poached pear. There are so many variations of the generous menu, you can have a trio of pasta dishes from the 13 on the menu for just £19.95 for 2 people. There is a fish menu, specials board, pasta, salad and deli. So much choice and what is absolutely guaranteed is a superb meal served by superb staff. Carluccios is sexy, stylish, mirrored by the people who go there, it is exactly what is the Met Quarter needs to breathe life into it.

H
i, Welcome to the May edition of Lifestyle Magazine. My name is Kane Russell, my older brother Luke has let me have a guest spot in his usual monthly column to talk about the opening of my new venture. Some of you may have heard the buzz around town about a new coffee house as it played a very important part in the hit sitcom, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Yes you are right; “This is the one where Central Perk comes to Liverpool!” This isn’t just any new project I am taking on, but a very exciting one as I am a big F.R.I.E.N.D.S fan. I am yet to meet someone who doesn’t tell me their favourite scene from the 10 seasons or the best quotes from each character. One of the first things people ask when they know about Central Perk is whether I am hiring a Gunther and Rachel to work there or a Phoebe to sing badly. Don’t worry we won’t be hiring any Rachels to serve you the wrong coffee or cake and unfortunately there is no Gunther, but there will be a search for the next Phoebe Buffay to sing Smelly Cat on our many themed events. We will be hosting evenings in the coffee house including open mic nights, book clubs and watching the iconic episodes on the big screen. We have the closest replica of Central Perk we could make possible, including the couch, bar and décor. Even the coffee is the same as the chalkboard in the show. We are also bringing a taste of NYC to the lunch menu including New York Sub, stacked pancakes and waffles. Not forgetting you can buy your favourite American confectionery such as Tootsie Rolls, Twinkies and Hershey bars through to Cherry Pepsi, Root Beer and Brooklyn lager to mention a few. For all you Central Perk fans you can even buy a mug for your desk or tshirt to wear at home as we will have merchandise on sale. We are now officially open for you to pop along too. So call over to Central Perk on Hatton Gardens in Liverpool city centre for our very own slice of the NYC experience.

Celebrity Interview
SIMON AMSTELL
H
e was once accused of being a bitter public school boy who was ‘cruel for the sake of it’ to his celebrity guests on Never Mind The Buzzcocks. Frankly, wasn’t Simon Amstell just doing his job? The irreverent ‘upstart’, who got his leg up fronting kitschy Channel 4 series Popworld, had always taken a wide berth from the fawning chat show contemporaries, giving ‘starry’ guests like Anthony Costa, John Barrowman and (Samuel) Preston a rather difficult ride on the BBC panel series. Famously, the Ordinary Boys frontman got so ticked off when Amstell starting ripping the Michael out of the singer’s then wife Chantelle Houghton, Preston marched off set and declared war on the curly topped show host. And in a three series stint on Buzzcocks, Simon continued to make a string of revenge declaring enemies. Did he quit the show simply because they couldn’t secure any more celebrity guests? “Eh, no”, he laughs, “that surprisingly wasn’t the case. I was just fed up and bored. It was the same over and over, guests knew the format. They’d come on the show, I’d be rude to them, they’d get all huffy, the end. "The issue was it had stopped being surprising. They’d come on to plug whatever single or fragrance or lipstick they were hocking, and I’d stick it to them. After a while they were expecting it. Or completely reluctant to come on the show at all. It was just boring for me.” Responsible for Marilyn Manson’s one man boycott against all British TV interviews after innocently quizzing the rocker over his fondness for nudity, Amstell left behind the celebrity chit chat to focus on his acting, writing and stand-up comedy career, a move that is proving rather successful. His self-scribed sitcom, Grandma’s House, provided a true to form, quirky Yiddish yarn loosely based on his own family experiences, and will soon start its second season run after a successful debut on BBC Two. In addition, he’s just about to go on the road with his latest stand-up show, Numb. A bit of an odd name for a live comedy act? “The theme seemed to be disconnection and detachment and the inability to feel things fully. It's about not being able to feel things in the moment and being incapable of expressing yourself emotionally, and the fact that that leads to disconnectedness and depression. And it’s very funny, even if I do say so myself,” he smiles, “and I really do love doing stand-up. It's the most amazing feeling when it's going well, you're flying. This ‘thing’ is happening beyond your control. Something is powering you, something that isn't you.
“Things are going relatively well since leaving Buzzcocks. I’ve had the stand-up shows, and the success of Grandma’s House was as much of a surprise to me as it was to everyone else.” A lifelong devotee to all things telly, Amstell made his first TV appearance was as a contestant on game show GamesMaster and, at 18, he was presenting on children's TV station Nickelodeon. “Which they sacked me from,” he laughs. “They said I was mean and sarcastic to the children… which, to be fair, was absolutely. I really tried to be nice to them but somehow, it didn’t come naturally to me.” It was Popworld, alongside co-host Miquita Oliver that placed Simon on the map. During his time, he was responsible for driving Britney Spears to tears off screen after asking her if she’d ‘gone a bit nuts’. So between that, Manson and Preston, any remnants of guilt? “I never felt guilty about anyone. It was funny at the time, got a few laughs, job done. I must say though, I did feel a little bad after an appearance on BBC Breakfast a few years ago when I cracked a distasteful gag towards Russell Watson. But I was nervous and just blurted it out, and he’s a lovely bloke. I hope he forgives me.” Does he seek similar forgiveness from Preston? “Hell no,” he replies. “Preston was fair game, and got publicity out of that situation so it was win/win for him, and he even admitted he went overboard with his reaction. It was Never Mind The Buzzcocks, not Parkinson, and he should have been glad to have been asked to appear on the show.” Has Amstell ever bumped into him since? “I haven’t had the pleasure but I can imagine he’s over it now. It’s years ago, people get over these things. It’s not really something that keeps me awake at night.” INTERVIEW HUB

hat is it about Thornton Hall Hotel and Spa that entices me back time and time again? It is the tranquil surroundings of the Wirral countryside, coupled with manicured lawns to look out onto, or perhaps the lure of one of the finest restaurants in the region, The Lawns, that makes me return. My visit this time was to have the full body ESPA massage at the Lodge spa. Sharing this treat was my husband and it was the first time the two of us had shared a treatment. Entering the Lodge you are greeted with a warm welcome, as if visiting a friend in her home. We were led to the treatment room which specialises in dual treatments. The floral aroma encapsulated me as I slipped under the fluffy towels and enjoyed the treatment. It was nice to have the beds side by side and proves a popular choice for girlie weekends and couples seeking a romantic break. ESPA is the award leading luxury brand for spa and skin care products and is my favourite body massage. The aromatherapy oils designed to treat the skin with dynamic results, leaving my whole body tingling and silky smooth. As well as the most unparallelled soothing and relaxing massages ever, you float away with a renewed sense of calm. Added to that the gorgeous fragrances penetrating the skin release a lovely fragrance all afternoon, boosting your mood for the rest of the day Thornton Hall Hotel & Spa is just a short 25 minute
drive from Liverpool city centre, in a quintessential English village called Thornton Hough, but I like to think of it as Midsomer Murder territory, with its rows of thatched cottages, open green spaces and you feel like a million miles away from the rat race. It’s the perfect day out to wind down and treat yourself to some of the finer luxuries in life. A recent mystery visitor awarded it number 5 in the top 8 Best day Spa hideaways across the UK and when you go there you will see why. After being indulged, my husband and I made our way over to the prestigious Lawns restaurant for some fine food (see the restaurant review) before reality hit us and we headed home back to the school run and the chaos of our hectic lives. For five luxurious hours we enjoyed the five star service of both the hotel and spa. I am not just saying this, it really is one of my favourite places and you just have to test it for yourself... you’ll understand in an instant.

Alex Longmore
Style
Lifestyle magazine was lucky to have minutes with top fashion stylist, Alex Longmore. Stylist to the stars, she has worked as the Style Editor for the Daily Mail and for the past 10 years has worked as a top celebrity stylist for clients around the world, including; Claudia Schiffer, Twiggy, Zara Phillips and Jodie Kidd. Tell us about being a stylist. It's the best job in the world, you get to work with clothes and people all day long and its such a positive job because the end result is so rewarding helping people to look fabulous and create inspiring images. I dress celebrities, style fashion shoots and have private clients who I work with. I am super lucky as I get to workacross the board. Its not as glamorous as everyone thinks, I can tell you that for nothing. People think the fashion Industry is super glam and we all swan around in our Jimmy Choo’s. The reality is very different, its hard work and I never stop dashing around. How did you get into being a stylist? I always knew I wanted to be a stylist from the age of about 8, don’t ask me how I knew at that age what as Stylist was, but I did! All my friends had Adam Ant posters on their wall, I was different I just had masses of Vogue Covers plastered all over my room. I got into it by gaining work experience at various magazines and working my way up from there. What is a typical day in your life: That is the brilliant thing about my job, no day is the same. But to give you an idea, this morning I was in talks with a company about becoming a brand ambassador for them and this afternoon was shopping down Sloane Street for a private client.
Do you undress and dress people in the street or when you are talking to them? No but I always ask people where they got their items of clothes from. What key pieces should every woman have in her wardrobe this season? Coloured jeans and Chinos, anything pastel, bright prints, a blazer jacket, wedge trainers and an oversized bag. What are you looking forward to seeing on the catwalk at Liverpool Fashion Week this year: Even more designs that are bold and bright! I would also love to see some really good tailoring. Can you talk about any celebrities who you dress? Yes they are all wonderful. Totally professional and have a great sense of fun. Why do we need a stylist? What service do you offer: Hopefully confidence and advise. There is an unwritten rule that we should all know how to dress, and its simply not true. A lot of people see a personal trainer to get their body in shape so why not see a stylist as well. It's almost more important to dress well. Many high street stores offer personal shopping, how do you differ? By giving unbiased support and advise. Often the shops tell you one
thing, which is not categorically true. We’ve all had that, ‘ you look fab in that’ comment, when we know its not exactly true. My clients pay for me to work for them, there is a big difference. Where do you like to shop? I love Zara, East and Harvey Nichols Any advice for us? Yes always make sure you wear something that makes the body look in proportion. Don’t be afraid of colour.

E I M M A P Liverpool model, Carolyn Arrowsmith, has gone to extraordinary lengths to look like the Baywatch star
C
arolyn, 27 lives in Liverpool city centre in an apartment, a converted wine cellar. She first had plastic surgery in 2006 with a breast enlargement, this was swiftly followed with botox and lip injections and teeth whitening and filing. She said, “At the time I started getting surgery, I was just getting into modelling and the Pamela Anderson lookalike thing was more something I developed as time went on. The more people said I looked like her, the more I would the obsession grew with creating this extra character on top of my modelling from which I had an edge x she is the most well known blonde model and if people were saying I looked like her it couldn’t be a bad thing to develop that considering that I wanted to be a successful model so I decided to use that angle to my advantage and took it from there really.” Carolyn said her father first noticed the resemblence when she was a teenager. “He told me I looked like Pamela Anderson and that would probably develop even more as I got older.” There have been problems along the way of achieving her goals, though. “I have got a high pain threshold because I persevered even when my boob job went wrong. I didn’t get them removed when I started to have problems because I wasn’t going to stop until I had better results than I started with even if that took operation after operation. Most people would reside to the fact that their body does not like the implants so rejected them but I wasn’t going to get a boob job and end up with worst results than I started with, especially when it was so important to look a
particular way.“ In the end she endured eight operations over three years to correct them , justifying her reason for doing so was to ensure she had the confidence to pull off her look on camera and in personal appearances.. Carolyn says, “There was a lot factoring in my decision. I see myself as a very strong person who will always pull themselves out of a situation the other end no matter how difficult I will always make sure I find the light at the end of the tunnel. If judgmental people would comment
"happiness is not achieved through looks or plastic surgery, it is achieved by knowing and being happy with yourself which cannot be achieved with surgery" about such situations without going through a similar situation I suggest they keep their mouth shut till they have walked a mile in someone else’s shoes, because they have no right to say what that person should decide to do with their own body because they don’t know what that person felt at the time or how the situation would feel to them if they were in the same shoes.” She added, “ People have got to much to say nowadays about other peoples lives rather than focusing on themselves instead of wasting their time and energy festering negative thoughts about others.” She is happy with the way she looks now but plans to get “tweaks: as she
ages, saying, “ There is an element of maintenance to it as with all plastic surgery it must be maintained over time. I would get more implants a size bigger just so they are the size I originally wanted and I will always get my botox and lips because they are products which need topping up.” So far she has spent in excess of £14,000. She said, “I think it can improve a certain part of a persons mind set, it’s a tool to improve self esteem. I do not think it’s a tool to improve someone’s soul, a higher form of consciousness and happiness is not achieved through looks or plastic surgery it is achieved by knowing and being happy with yourself which cannot be achieved with plastic surgery. I have emotional freedom and they are the perfect candidates for plastic surgery! Free of mind body and spirit!: Despite this Carolyn does not feel that she is high maintenance. “people who know me know that I am self sufficient. While the Pammie and model side is high maintenance, the Carolyn side is homely down to earth and can go out the house in a tracksuit and pony tail and bare faced apart from some tinted moisturiser.” Her usual grooming regime includes little more, except for when she has parties or events, when she will have a spraytan done, glitter nails and a pedicure. Her eyelashes and eyebrows attended to. Her hair though required tinted and coloured in two blonde shades. “I have to achieve the blonde shade I have to look like Pammie.” She also follows a strict fitness schedule. “I do swimming, horse riding and I also use vibrating plates a few times a week. They really are good for sculpting a small frame into a very taut tight athletic body, while still keeping you petite I am also a contortionist and fine art model and contemporary dancer which gives you the body of an acrobat or gymnast all on its own really. I am lucky to have a very fast metabolism and a small appetite so whatever I eat is what I want to eat really for the simple reason it is burned off pretty much straight away.” Carolyn advises, “ There is a lot of negativity about nowadays and if I can turn that into positive energy not only for myself but for others to then everything is truly worth it. Positive influences in people’s lives can create happiness and freedom for not just yourself but others around you. Focus on this and you will never go wrong.” www.scousepammieofficial.webs.com LIFESTYLE

It’s the bold prediction from stage hypnotist, Alan Bates, who talks to Amanda Moss ahead of his exclusive performance at our birthday party in July.... Alan also offers 1 to 1 Past Life Regression Consultation at the Crystal Zen Garden 186 Liscard Road Wallasey by appointment only on 0151 638 6757.
Alan Bates comes from the Wirral but hails as establishing the Skinny Dipping Posse in Crosby Marina two decades ago. Having worked as a Comedy Hypnotist for over twenty years, he has worked around the world and appeared on many TV shows including the Graham Norton show. There are two aspects to his work, both involving using the power of the mind. The first presentation is Comedy and the other is Past Life Regression. He is currently developing aTV programme with Spirit Medium Derek Acorah in the United States. Alan regresses celebrities into a past life and Derek builds a psychic profile of the person in another incarnation. Alan says his work is a gift and a talent. How did it all start? Well, he was a Casino Manager for Carnival Cruise lines on board a cruise ship in the Caribbean and one night he was on a date and having dinner. They had just watched a magic illusion show and the magician asked to join us. I replied that we were having a private dinner but would join them for drinks later. He there and then bet me five dollars that he could get the lady to leave me within five minutes. The next thing Alan knew he spoke to the girl and she turned to Alan and said, “thank you and goodnight”. He was astounded, he asked him what he did and after Alan paid him the five dollar wager he replied, “I hypnotised her”! This was Alan’s first introduction to the world of Hypnosis. Shortly after he returned to England and studied psychology and read many books and eventually developed his own brand of comedy and a unique presentation. So is Alan able to get whatever he wants in life by hypnotising people? “Absolutely not” he says, “you cannot hypnotise people to do anything against their own moral values that is why he looks for people with no values”. Joking of course. Alan has a fan base in many parts of the world including Singapore, Dubai and India. He has also performed for the Royal family of Brunei, enjoyed afternoon tea with the president of Malta and lunched out with the Bahrain Royal Family. “I am very blessed”, Alan says, “I love the quote from Confucius”, ‘choose a job you really love and you will never work a day in your life’. I absolutely love and have a real passion for my work. If I won millions on the lottery I would never give up my work. I get to travel and meet all sorts of wonderful people. Talking of the lottery, what does he have in store for our guests at the Lifestyle birthday party in July? “Well I don’t want to give too much away or it will spoil the surprise,” he says “but I am going to marry off two people and someone will win the lottery and take all their friends and family out for dinner”. Like a lot of entertainers, Alan is superstitious before he steps out onto the stage. Before each show he prays to his Hypnotic Gods, so far, touch wood, it works. Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 2012 line up is announced
Sport
Tournament Director Anders Borg and Liverpool Council’s deputy leader Cllr Roz Gladden have revealed the official player line up for this summer’s tournament, taking place in Calderstones Park, Liverpool from 21 – 24 June.
H
eadline players include former Wimbledon winner Richard Krajicek, and British number one Greg Rusedski. Other players confirmed by the tournament include former top ten Younes Alanoui, as well as Peter Mcnamara, French open finalist Mikael Perfors, West Lancashire’s own Barry Cowan and junior Wimbledon Champion Ryan Sweeting. Leading tennis coach Nick Bollettieri, who has trained many of the world’s top players is also coming to the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament for the first time this year. As well as playing on the tournament’s opening day, he will also be giving tennis clinics and attending a special schools day (June 20) to help introduce Merseyside children to the game. Nick Bollettieri said: “I am very excited about coming to Liverpool for the first time this year. I am really looking forward to the tournament. I know there is a lot of raw sporting talent in the region, and who knows, if we might even find a future champion?” Anders Borg, Director of the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, said: “I’m thrilled that Nick Bollettieri will be joining us for the first time this year. It’s a real coup to have him playing, and not only that, but he will also be offering his expertise to our aspiring young tennis players from the area too. “Nick is simply a legend of modern tennis and we cannot
wait to welcome him to Liverpool. We’re really shaping up for an amazing line up at this summer’s tournament, and still have lots more ATP and WTA players to be confirmed in May.” Top tennis entertainer, the FrenchIranian Mansour Bahrami, famous for his range of trick shots and unusual, fun-filled style of play, is also confirmed to play as part of Legends Day. This year, the tournament will be spread over six days, comprising two days for youngsters on June 19-20, followed by the four day main tournament event, which organisers hope will generate 25,000 spectators. Anders Borg adds, “The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, now in its eleventh year, is one of the North West’s most popular annual sporting events. But taking place just a few weeks ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games, this summer’s tournament will be a particularly special occasion. The Olympics will undoubtedly create an increased interest in sports right across the UK, and it’s fantastic that people here in Liverpool and the North West will have the opportunity to fully embrace ‘Olympic fever’ at a world class sporting event happening near them.” The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 2012 will provide a unique opportunity to watch ATP and WTP players warming up for both Wimbledon and the London 2012 Olympic Games, with qualifying players from Team GB scheduled to appear.
The main sponsors of the tournament include: Brabners Chaffe Street, Mazars, Medicash, Liverpool Community Health, Spire Hospital and Liverpool Hilton Hotel. The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament has also received financial support from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Tennis Foundation to help fund the community activity around the tournament and promote ongoing opportunities for children and adults to take up the sport in Liverpool. 39 LIFESTYLE

Do you get lots support back home, and do you get to come home often? I spent easter at home and it was amazing. I have so much support off my family and friends so i’m very lucky. They’ll never let me get too big for my boots haha
What has been the highlight of your career so far?...and your worst gig?
Being a local lad, what are you favourite hangout spots in Liverpool?
highlight was definitely performing at the o2 arena, that was the best feeling i’ve ever had. Our worst gig was probably when we first started, it was in Cambridge, there were only 3 people there! One being the soundman!
I love the shopping and the new L1 is amazing, theres always something new every time i come home. My fav bars are Hannah’s, Lagos and Heebie Jeebies. Thats where you would have found me easter weekend!
You have been compared to The Script- What’s your opinion on reality TV shows like The Voice? Have you had a chance to watch it yet?
What was it like recording your album and recording your video in LA?
I havent seen The Voice yet, but ive been meaning to watch it and heard great things about it! I love X Factor and BGT tho, BGT is hilarious! Do you think growing up in Liverpool contributed to your desire to be a musician? Definitely, the music scene is amazing in Liverpool. I used to play a lot of gigs in the cavern and also at the Matthew St Festival. My dad taught me to play old beatles songs on guitar when I was 10yrs old. My dad’s side of the family is where I got my music genes from, there’s a big music history right throughout the Browns
It was really surreal, its an amazing place. The weather, the people, the night life. Its all amazing. So to record our debut album and video out there was a dream come true. What are your plans for this year? Our debut single When She Was Mine is released on the 27th May and we have a tour planned around that time too! We are performing at a few festivals in the summer, and also at Westlife’s last ever gig at Croke Park in Dublin! Bring it ONNN!!

A marketing company especially for students is right here in Liverpool city centre! Jon Dunnington, director of Unfold Student Life explains..... Tell me more about UNFOLD Student Life?
UNFOLD Student Life is the freshest branch of Unfold Marketing, our most unique feature is that we produce our fantastic UNFOLD Packs. These small pocket-sized packs (survival guides) offer over a £1000 of savings each month. These will be hand delivered directly to 6000 students through densely populated student areas such as outside student halls of residence and student union bars, etc… Not only this, we have collaborated with some of the best bars and businesses in the city, providing us with unmissable prize giveaways which we will be conducting on a weekly basis... and if that’s not enough we will also be holding monthly themed events, starting with an exclusive, Prohibition Launch event where getting dressed to the 9's is essential!
So you also organize student club nights?
Not only do we organize regular club nights, but we also create bespoke events for individual clients including recent pitches for a Student Sports Day for the Gym (Liverpool One) and Late Night Adventure Golf for Jungle Rumble (Liverpool One). We are also in very exciting talks with our sponsors, a local software company who are launching their student App, HUB Metro, about hosting all of their Launch events in Colleges and Universities around the UK.
What makes you different from the rest?
There are many aspects of our company that makes us unique, for instance every idea that we have whether it is for an event or a publicity campaign, our thought process begins as far out the box as possible, we then trim these to make the idea plausible creating very exciting and bespoke ideas. Our experience in the student events market is also second-to-none, having organized numerous student events in Blackpool and Liverpool, we have tried and tested every idea out there and know exactly what works. Most importantly, having recently left University ourselves, we know exactly what students want! We see ourselves as the seamless link between business owners and the student market in Liverpool. So if you’re looking for a way to penetrate this market, look no further.

CAUSE DISTRESS. THE FOLLOWING FEATURE MAAY WEAK HEART..... DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE LOCK UP YOUR FAMILIES........ LIVERPOOL 16-19 MAY THE ZOMBIES ARE COMING TO
S
mash hit zombie chase game, 2.8 Hours Later, is continuing its reign of terror across the UK, bringing its zombie menace to Liverpool this month. 2.8 Hours Later will take place in Liverpool’s city centre on four consecutive nights from May 16, 2012. The hunt for zombie volunteers to do the chasing and scaring is now on. The game, which is the brainchild of Bristol game designers, SlingShot, is touring across the country, starting out in Glasgow on Wednesday. It has already proved so popular in its first outing north of the border (tickets sold out within 18 hours), that a second staging of the game will take place the following weekend, on 5 – 7th April. London, Manchester, Birmingham, Brighton and Bristol are all being considered as further locations for this year.
SlingShot Director, Simon Evans, said: “Liverpool is an incredibly evocative place. It’s a grand city and I think its Victorian heritage and old warehouses will be ideal for creating the kind of spine-tingling, scary atmosphere that we need for the game.
2.8 Hours Later is a thrilling night time chase game. It is played across an inner city backdrop, and sees multiple secret locations transformed into zombie film sets and populated by a cast of survivors and zombies. Players hit the streets in waves after dark to outwit and outrun the zombies as they hunt for clues to the whereabouts of Resistance HQ, the last safe place in the city. Using their mobiles, they are also able to call or text in to get game updates and safety information.
The game has a cast of hundreds of zombie volunteers, who chase, groan and scare players along the route. Local zombie fans can sign up for zombie school, a one-stop shop for all things zombie. Volunteers practice their zombie moves, learn how to play safely and, if they graduate, are given the opportunity to help SlingShot transform Liverpool into the zombie apocalypse. Wannabe zombies can register for zombie school at: http://svy.mk/AFiRZx
“I think the people of Liverpool will love the game, too. It’s a very social piece of entertainment, and it’s very humorous. It’s pop cultural, which should fit right in with the city that gave us The Beatles.”
Since it was premiered in 2010, 2.8 Hours Later has 2.8 Hours Later will be taking place in Liverpool from been played by over six thousand players in Bristol, 16th – 19th May inclusive. Tickets cost £28 and are London and Leeds. Tickets sell out within days with available from the website: http://2.8hourslater.com/ over 17,000 fans following the game’s every move on Facebook, and putting in bids for their cities to host the adrenaline-fuelled zombie gore fest. Liverpool was chosen as the next location, partly due to votes cast on the game’s website (2.8hourslater. com) and partly due to its layout and history. They city’s dense network of streets and Victorian heritage make Liverpool an ideal location for the game. LIFESTYLE

T
he last month has been an amazing time, I have teamed up with Nicola Rowlands ommunications and we have won some of the city’s top clients, this month alone we have taken on Hard Day’s Night Hotel, Merchants Restaurant/62 Castle Street, The Wedding House, Liverpool Hoteliers Association and Wetrooms online, added to our current portfolio of clients, we’re massively excited about 2012! Your Business Ezine is a project I’ve been following for a couple of years now and it seems to have really picked up momentum of late, Emma Dolan runs the online business ‘ezine’ and I recently went to a wellattended event at the sumptuous La Tasca, who could turn down tapas and Sangria on a Friday afternoon? Definitely not me! Be sure to get along to an event if you have the opportunity. Going back to my musical roots, I took a trip down to London for a Mod weekender called ‘Le Beat Bespoke’ with my boyfriend and
some friends; it was like stepping into a time tunnel back to 1964. There was some seriously cool people and bands, and 3 nights of partying, far too
much for me at my age! Also a great chance to take in some of the sites that our great capital has to offer, love it or hate it you could never be bored in London town. Talking of no chance of being bored! Julie ‘Zesty’ west and Sue Hinds from the well respected Letting agency Zest Lets joined us for an afternoon drink or 12, at the Living Room and Hard Days Night Hotel, its amazing how excited 4 grown ladies
could get over the John Lennon suite, see pics to prove! We have decided we simply ‘must’ hold an event there soon! Predictably we ended up supping cocktails until the early hours at San Carlo. So much partying has left my skin in a bit of a bad way, luckily Enhance Cosmetic Clinic were on hand to give me my routine top up of wrinkle free injections! Louise Archondopoulos has recently set up Enhance after a lengthy career and is now opened up above the ‘Newz Bar’ which is a great location for anyone wanting to turn back the years! Controversial as it may sound I have been having the treatment since I was 26 and I think it’s funny when people say ‘you don’t need it!’ …That’s because I’ve been having them! Prevention is better than a cure in my opinion. 6 weeks after opening they have even collaborated with Spire hospitals to offer surgical procedures to the lovely ladies of Liverpool who we all know are streets ahead in the fashion and image stakes. Next month I’m excited for some great events, we have the launch of ‘Scouse Boutique’ which is the new business venture of Amanda Harrington and the O’Toole Sisters, Downtown Liverpool in Business’ 8th Birthday and The Living Room’s Food and Drink Showcase to name but a few. I have some brilliant new projects that I’m keeping under wraps for now based in the Wirral and Liverpool, I can’t hold a secret for long though so watch this space! I look forward to filling you in on next month social events in our ‘sassy city’.
Geniene.

Joint Venture Success and Job Joy for Liverpool.
MIDDLE
England Developments has completed its refurbishment of Candia Tower in the Everton area of North Liverpool. The company bought both Candia Tower and the neighbouring Crete Tower back in October from administrators for £1.8m in a Joint Venture with SLC property investments Ltd, after a developer which had previously proposed a scheme for the site had run out of money. It immediately began work on refurbishing both properties and has completed the 64-apartment Candia Tower block within three months. Middle England said that all 128 units at Candia and Crete Towers were pre-sold to investors, and contracts have already been exchanged on all units. Investments for each of the 3 bed room apartments came from as far afield as China and Singapore. Managing director of MED, Nigel Russell, said that over £2m has already been spent on the upgrade, with a design team that includes KDP Architects and SHP Structural Engineers. The whole project of the 2 Towers, which are both 16 floors tall, had directly and indirectly seen around 300 jobs created for the likes of electricians, labourers and several other building professions. Kevin Cole, Director of SLC Property Investments Limited added “At a time when significant job cuts are being made in industry as a result of the economic downturn, we are all delighted that both Middle England Developments and SLC Property Investment Ltd are able to create employment opportunities on this project in North Liverpool.” Crete Tower and the remainder of the site should be complete by early May 2012. All units in Candia Tower are now being let / up for let with agents ranging from £525-£575 per month, with an option of a furniture pack for an additional £50 per month. There is 24 hour on site security, a resident’s gym, underground parking and spectacular views out across the city. The specification on this development is very high with the city centre only 5 minutes away.

World’s First Comfort Zone Calculator Reveals First Insights A 20-year old entrepreneur has created the world’s first ‘comfort zone calculator’ and revealed first insights into how our comfort zones differ across demographics. WhatIsMyComfortZone. com was launched on February 15th 2012 by a young entrepreneur from Oxford, Marcus Taylor. The ‘Comfort Zone Calculator’ uses a carefully constructed algorithm to analyse the different aspects of the human comfort zone. Its aim is to provide insights into how the person taking the test can grow their comfort zone across three different aspects: adrenaline, professional, and lifestyle. Since launching one month ago, the web app has spread to over 10,000 people via social media. Today, the project has revealed its first findings based on the data from the first 5,000 users. The findings suggest that on average, males have a larger overall comfort 56

zone than females by approximately 3%. It’s also evident that men and women excel in different aspects of their comfort zone – the average male adrenaline and professional comfort zone scored higher than the average female, but females appeared to have a higher lifestyle comfort zone score than males. The insights also show the proportion of men and women who have done specific challenges. The project suggests that based on its data, 1 in 16 males have been skydiving, compared to only 1 in 27 women. Insights also suggest that 1 in 5 men have started a business, while only 1 in 7 women have. Marcus Taylor commented: “For the past few years I’ve lived by the philosophy of ‘do whatever scares you’. This philosophy quickly got me hooked on the concept of comfort zones, and made me realise that
there’s noreason why we couldn’t measure our comfort zones (after all, you can’t improve what you can’t measure).” He continued: “I made it my challenge to create that means of measurement, and after lots of trial and error, I posted my idea online. The response has been overwhelming, but has inspired me to keep researching and exploring the vastly unexplored territory of comfort zones with an aim to inspire others to get out of their comfort zones.” Marcus is currently researching the link between how our comfort zones impact our long-term wealth, how comfort zones differ between introverted and extroverted people, and whether expanding our comfort zones make us more ‘interesting’.
