The tradition of weaving was started from the Neolithic times - approximately 12,000 years ago and it was used to

Weaving also used for textile making in the past . Since the development of technology, a machine that can used for textile woven was developed in the early 1800s. Loom is used to produce a very complicated pattern of textile . However, there are craft men that still

produced the textile by the old way.

The importance of having a craft museum is to have a place that display and collect the craft , history and cultural heritage .This is to ensure that the intangible cultural heritage like the technique and process of making craft could be shared and preserved in museum. For instance, nowadays ,there is lack of young generation that who are still interested in the weaving technique . In this scenario , the weaving technique

each other well.

In my own opinion, one of the issues faced by craft museum is lack of attraction for the visitor especially , locals in Malaysia .The ways of display of information and artefacts in craft museum in Malaysia are relatively ordinary , this causes the

Issue Faced By Craft Museum

locals would not have an interest in visiting after they went to the craft museum once . It is because people may feel like is no point to visit the place with the same contents . Furthermore , the issue that would be faced by the Woven Craft Museum will be lack of raw materials for the craft products , if there is a workshop for the craft museum. According to the research ,the major indigenous raw materials for the woven craft are rattan , bamboo , bemban , palm leaves and cotton yarn , but it has substituted by the artificial materials like plastic packaging strip due to difficulty in

getting

the

natural

materials. There

are quite less

comfortable and not environmentally friendly to use the artificial material for craft making, but the situation of

deforestation causes it may take longer period ( 2 – 3 days ) for entering the jungle to obtain the raw material . Besides that, the development of the industrial field affects the demand of the woven crafts like basket , woven bag and rattan chair. The industrial products with plastic material are cheaper compared with the craft and this is resulting in the

less demand of the woven craft today . People just care about price, but not quality.

Ways To Address The Issues Through The Establishment Of My Craft Museum In order to attract the visitors , the building of

museum could be

designed with the weaving element and the display of the woven product can also be part of the building . When the architecture of the building is attractive and interesting , it would be able to attract people to visit it and become a check in point for people to take pictures in social media . In this way , the craft museum could be promoted to more people

In addition, the issue that lack of the raw materials for woven craft can be solved by the landscape design of the craft museum . The landscape of craft museum could be designed by the plantation of the plants that can used as the materials for woven craft so that we can get the raw materials nearly and visitor also able to involve themselves in the process of collection of raw material and know about the process of craft making from beginning . For example , we can plant pandanus , rattan trees and bamboo trees in the landscape design area to ensure the continuous supply of the raw materials . Moreover ,we could encourage people to buy the woven craft products by let them know about the value and the story behind of the craft . As Aldo Gucci said, ‘Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten’, in the craft museum we could share about the advantages of using the woven craft instead of plastic products . The woven crafts are more expensive than the plastic products , however it is more durable and with its originality. Woven craft also more environmental friendly .

Conclusion

/

Reflection

Craft is like footprint of life , an evidence of life. When we use it , we remembered about the day that we used it and we made it . It also inherited the spirit and intelligent of ancient . Therefore , in my point of view, we should always remember it and

try our best to preserve it so that it will not fadeaway due to torrent of times . The ideas of the “ Woven Craft Museum “ could be a beginning for people to think about and change about the minds to the craft .

Introduction : Background , role and aim of museum: According to my museum manifesto , the craft that I would focus on would be woven products – “Woven Craft Museum” . There are quite a lot of things and products that we could create by weaving action like baskets , furniture , cloths and art pieces. Based on my research , I found out the issues faced by community that creates the products , •

the lack of the role material

less demand of woven craft due to industrial development.

Task 1 : Visionary Representation

In this visionary representation , I would like to talk about the story of the local people is weaving , the person beside is recording and learning from the local people. The hands in the visionary representation are same as the hands are doing the weaving . Hands are all connected by the string , it represents the pass of knowledge and skills from the old time to now, this action is connected all of us together. The bamboo trees beside symbolizes the endless of the intelligent of ancient to now and it also represent my ideas of museum of planning for the landscape that could also be the supply of the role material for weaving . The circles in this visionary representation symbolize the ideas of cycle of craft from materials to people to craft , a process of achieve the happiness . The flying birds are like a hope that we would like to bring to people in their life .The process of making craft could be a process of making people calm and peaceful. The variety of the woven products are showing people the beauty of the craft .

Task 2 :Exhibition Display Pavilion

Design intention The design of the pavilion is inspired by the weaving craft, is like the fluidity and freely of the weaving. Weaving is an action that everyone can be involved together . The intention of this pavilion is for people to involve in the activity and enjoy the beauty of the weaving patterns.

Design intention / design brief In this collage , I would like to indicate the ideas of my craft museum . The weaving pattern panel would be one of the element that I would like to implement in my craft museum . For the landscape design , plantation area would be provided to ensure the continuous supply of the role material of weaving . The circulation of the site would be a main focus to ensure better user experience throughout the journey . Besides that , the weaving panel on the façade can be changed once a year and like a festival for everyone to join and do it together during the festival , therefore it is known as a “ Living Museum ”.
