ABOUT COLOMBIA

Welcome to Colombia, a tropical country with incredible diversity and charm. The geography and history are full of mystery and adventure, where its people and cultures have enchanted the world for centuries. Colombia is the third country in Latin America with the largest Afro-descendant population located on the Caribbean and Pacific coast of the national territory. Additionally, Colombia is the country that has the first town free from slavery called Palenque de San Basilio. Famous for its excellent coffee and the most impressive emeralds, Colombia is the land of the legend of El Dorado and the magical universe of Macondo. We invite you to visit Colombia's official tourism websites: Travel Guide: https://colombia.travel/es/ Marca País Colombia is a competitiveness strategy of the National Government that seeks to present a positive image of the country abroad. ABOUT CALI

Cali is the capital of the department of Valle del Cauca. It is the third most populated city and the third economic and cultural center of Colombia. It is located in the southern region of Valle del Cauca; geographically the city lies in the Cauca River Valley formed by the western mountain range and the central mountain range of the Andean Region. Cali is rich in Afro-Colombian heritage; nowhere in the nation is racial and cultural diversity so evident. Cali is the city in Colombia with the highest concentration of Afro-descendant population, with 26.4% of its total inhabitants, and is the second Afrodescendant capital of Latin America after Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.

27

Cali is the most important cosmopolitan urban epicenter of Afrodescendants in Colombia, with the presence of black settlers from all the municipalities of the Pacific, northern Cauca and the entire Valley other than Cali. Cali also gathers black settlers from Urabá Antioquia, and in general from several municipalities of the Caribbean coast, including immigrants from the islands of San Andrés and Providencia. Among its attractions, Cali also called "The Capital of Salsa", has the Tertulia Museum, the Plazoleta Jaime Varela, the Calima Gold Museum and the Archaeological Museum of La Merced, the imposing Cristo Rey (Christ the King), a statue similar to Christ the Redeemer of Rio de Janeiro that watches over the city from the Cerro de las Tres Cruces (Hill of the Three Crosses).

PETRONIO ÁLVAREZ PACIFIC MUSIC FESTIVAL

It is one of the most important cultural events of the capital of Valle del Cauca because it brings together for 4 days both musical traditions, with the participation of 1,100 artists and 44 competing groups, as well as those that come from the hands with ancestral knowledge in crafts, food and beverages of 1,300 exhibitors. The Petronio Alvarez Pacific Music Festival has been held for twenty-five years in the city of Cali and provides meeting spaces where Afro culture is the protagonist. It pays tribute to the music, food and traditional beverages, crafts and ancestral knowledge of the communities of the Colombian Pacific, allowing exhibitors of this culture to meet each other and interact with other cultural expressions.

ARE YOU READY TO ENJOY THE FESTIVAL?

Plu Con Pla fuses traditional rhythms from the Pacific coast of Colombia, such as Currulao and Bunde, with reggae, hiphop and subtle electronic beats. Plu Con Pla is an eleven-member band that brings together two distinct musical concepts, creating something we've never heard before. At the front of the stage, a full Currulao section sets the mood with a powerful vocal combo, traditional instruments from the Pacific coast of Colombia (bombo, cununo, marimba), and elements of West African origin (Ngoni, Djembe). They are joined by the strength of a full reggae ensemble of drums, guitar, bass and keyboards. The group takes its name from a traditional Tumaco dish. "Plu" means Plumuda, a local fish, and "Pla" is short for "Platano", the plantain you will have on your plate almost every time you have lunch in Colombia. open.spotify.com/artist/15OQgyef5dQZArbCVFvOxH? autoplay=true youtube.com/channel/UCpsAaMu4T_G9RHHyHQ6CKdQ @pluconpla Plu Con Pla
