What skills do my L1 pupils need to “write narrative stories? Pupils who find difficulty to write in their home language, may prefer to tell their stories via PENpal.. They can use translanguaging, set up bilingual dialogue, change the narrative as they build confidence in English. Story Mountain explains aurally different ways to tell stories - different ways to start, build tension, and so on. Teaching consultants in Hampshire developed the Interactive Literacy Toolkit KS2. Whether the narrative your pupils are working on is fictional or non-fiction, you get a four hour audio guidance plan to help pupils improve their writing and storytelling. Pupils can work independently as they tap into the Toolkit’s activities, audio hints, tips and reminders.

Many L1 pupils and Dyslectic readers may find understanding written instructions difficult. Misunderstanding what to do is often a major cause in under performance. These cards compress content into manageable cards that have audio commentary. Pupils can return to each section again and again at the own pace without the embarrassment of announcing that they don’t understand!
