CÓMO LEER ESTA GUÍA HOW TO READ THIS GUIDE La información está organizada por zonas: Recoleta, Retiro, Centro, San Telmo, La Boca, Puerto Madero, Palermo, Abasto, Almagro, Boedo y Belgrano. Cada una tiene asignado un color. En cada zona encontrará una breve descripción del barrio, y luego un mapa con un índice de todos los espacios organizados en las siguientes categorías: Museos, Centros Culturales, Fundaciones, Galerías de Arte, Casas de Remate, Espacios de Arte y Anticuarios. Dentro de cada categoría los espacios están ordenados alfabéticamente. Cuentan con un número de referencia para ubicarlos en el mapa, y el número de pagina donde está su descripción detallada. Además, antes de la separación por zonas, un índice general, dividido por tipo de espacio y en orden alfabético, donde pueden rastrearse todos los espacios incluidos en la guía. Las artes plásticas se despliegan a lo largo de las calles en Buenos Aires. Como una necesidad de manifestación y un legado, invitan a conectarse con la expresión, la creación más auténtica y la renovación artística. Celebramos haber inaugurado “Milla Museos”, una red público-privada que agrupa a quince museos concentrados en el corredor de la Avenida del Libertador y Figueroa Alcorta, de Palermo a Retiro en un radio de 40 cuadras. Un circuito cultural que se realiza caminando, en bicicleta o en el bus turístico de la Ciudad y que reposiciona a nuestros magníficos museos estimulando el deseo de pasear y visitarlos. Durante noviembre -La Noche de los Museos- es el encuentro de la gente con el arte. Libremente y hasta la madrugada los museos permanecen abiertos para que el público pueda ingresar en forma gratuita. El arte ligado a sus espacios, eventos y ferias en Buenos Aires es un motivo que atrae a miles de viajeros a nuestra capital y convoca a los porteños. Esta guía resulta una pieza esencial para un recorrido enriquecedor. Apasionados por el arte, invitamos a todos a formar parte de este universo, un símbolo de la identidad cultural de la Ciudad. Ing. As a creative urge and a legacy, they invite us to connect with the expression, the most authentic creation and the artistic renewal. Ernesto Neto Faena Arts Center

Es heredero del movimiento artístico brasileño denominado Neo-Concreto que por primera vez coloca al espectador en el centro de la acción creativa. ERNESTO NETO nos invita a sumergirnos en su “Bicho suspendido en el paisaje”. Título de su imponente instalación que se ofrece suspendida como un universo orgánico a la espera de ser recorrida y degustada. Además de inaugurar el Faena Arts Center, sin duda el acontecimiento artístico más importante del año en la ciudad de Buenos Aires.

He is the heir of the Brazilian artistic movement called Neo-Concrete, wich for the first time puts the viewer in the center of the creative action. Ernesto Neto invites us to immerse ourselves in “Bicho suspendido en el el paisaje” (“Bug suspended in the landscape”), title of his stunning suspended installation, which is offered as an organic universe waiting to be traveled and tasted. And it will open the Faena Arts Center, surely the most important art event of the year in the city of Buenos Aires.

Nacido en Río de Janeiro, en 1964, ERNESTO NETO es hoy una de las figuras más importantes del escenario artístico brasileño actual. Participó en numerosas muestras internacionales y junto a Vik Muniz represento a Brasil en la Bienal de Venecia en el 2001. A el se debe la extraordinaria atención prestada tanto por museos, instituciones, críticos de arte como también la de coleccionistas y colecciones privadas. Desde hace dos décadas que Neto trabaja en relación a arquitecturas espaciales y sensoriales, donde la participación y acción es pieza fundamental para que la obra cobre vida. Sus obras se tocan, se huelen, se escucha, se pisan y se mueven. El mismo describe a sus trabajos como una clase de cuerpo/espacio/paisaje. Nos detenemos a contemplarla visualmente y además nos hace ser profundamente conscientes de los espacios que hay dentro y fuera de nuestros cuerpos. Navegamos en odiseas sensoriales. La muestra esta curada por Jessica Morgan, curadora de arte contemporáneo de Tate Modern Londres. Jessica cuenta en una entrevista: 48

Born in Rio de Janeiro, in 1964, Ernesto Neto is now one of the most important figures of the Brazilian art scene today. He participated in numerous international exhibitions and along with Vik Muniz he represented Brazil in the Venice Biennale in 2001. He was responsible for the extraordinary attention paid both by museums, institutions, art critics as well as the collectors and private collections. For two decades Neto has worked in relation to spatial and sensory

architectures, where participation and action is a fundamental element for the work to come alive. His works are touched, smelled, heard, pressed and moved. He describes his work as a kind of body / space / landscape. We stop to behold it visually and it also makes us keenly aware of the spaces inside and outside our bodies. We sail on a sensory odyssey. Jessica Morgan, curator of contemporary art at Tate Modern London, curates the exhibition. She tells us in an interview: 49

“Para este proyecto, Neto pasó gran parte de su tiempo en donde se encontrará su obra. Se empapó de Buenos Aires, en las calles, las noticias, los grafitis, la historia política y la arquitectura. Si bien es probable que el trabajo final responda más específicamente al ambiente de la sala de exposiciones, es poco probable que hubiera surgido sin este proceso de investigación en la ciudad. En el camino se han perdido varios proyectos que abordaban la política y las características de Buenos Aires, tal vez porque la necesidad de expresarlos se vio mitigada por el deseo del artista de crear otra experiencia o plataforma desde la “For this project, Neto spent much of his time where his work will be presented. Pero como toda obra del autor, no está del todo completa hasta que el público la camina, la ocupa y la vive.”

from which to consider the environment, rather than illustrate the issues of the day to day. Netoâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s work usually returns to different types of spatial and sensory environments: closed or isolated, horizontal, large and sensual in the use of sound, smell and touch. It offers a perspective that comes out of the ordinary and invites the visitor to stay in a way rarely seen in contemporary exhibitions. For this exhibition, Neto quickly decided to do a work that allows the viewer to experience the zenith of an area that once played a vital role in the countryâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s grain production. But like any other work of the author it is not quite complete until the public walks it, occupies it and lives it. â&#x20AC;&#x153;

La instalación de ERNESTO NETO se alberga bajo un marco inmejorable. El nuevo centro de exposiciones y experimentación artística transforma la antigua sala de máquinas del emblemático edificio Los Molinos de Puerto Madero en FAENA ARTS CENTER. Implantado en un terreno de 9020 m2 de los cuales 4000m2 son construidos. Miguel Angel Mc Cormack & Asociados y el equipo de arquitectura del Faena Group son los responsables arquitectónicos.

Ernesto Neto’s installation is housed in a perfect setting. The new exhibition and artistic experimentation center transformed the old engine room of the historic “Los Molinos” building in Puerto Madero into FAENA ARTS CENTER. It occupies 9020 m2 of land, of which 4000m2 are built. Miguel Angel Mc Cormack & Asociados and the architectural team of Faena Group are responsible for this architectural project.

El edificio que alberga a Faena Arts Center era uno de los primeros y más grandes molinos del país, con una producción de hasta mil toneladas diarias de molienda de trigo. Para transformarlo, se recuperó la arquitectura portuaria, industrial y de servicios, preservando las construcciones originales – como el molino sur, el molino norte y el edificio de salas de máquinas –, y crearon espacios exteriores que en conjunto permiten una comunicación abierta con los transeúntes. Bajo la dirección de Ximena Caminos, contará con una programación de eventos de vanguardia en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires en la que participarán artistas locales e internacionales. The building housing Faena Arts Center was one of the first and largest mills in the country, producing up to one thousand tons per day of milling wheat. In order to transform it, they recovered the industrial and port architecture, preserving the original buildings - like the south mill, the north mill and the engine rooms building - and created outdoor spaces that allow for an open communication with passers. Under the direction of Ximena Caminos, it will feature a schedule of avant-garde events in the City of Buenos Aires, with the participation of local and international artists. Through cultural programs, residences and experiences for a wide range of expressions, the public can witness all the stages of the creative process.

El 1˚ de diciembre se inaugura SynchroNY-city en el Consulado Argentino en Nueva York. Proyecto para el cual los artistas Cynthia Cohen, Lucio Dorr, Valeria Maculán, Alberto Passolini, Inés Raiteri, Hernán Salamanco, Elisa Strada y Román Vitali vienen trabajando desde hace ya meses. La muestra plantea, en principio la migración de lenguajes, originados en la relación que se ha ido construyendo desde la convivencia de sus trabajos, la traspolación de imaginarios colectivos y la transmisión de ciertas inquietudes de la obra de uno en la del otro.

On December 1 SynchroNY-city was inaugurated at the Argentine Consulate in New York. A project for which the artists Cynthia Cohen, Lucio Dorr, Valeria Maculán, Alberto Passolini, Inés Raiteri, Hernán Salamanco, Elisa Strada and Román Vitali have been working for months now. The exhibition presents, in principle, the migration of languages, originating in the relationship that has been built from the coexistence of their work, the collective imaginary extrapolation and the transmission of certain concerns in the work of one to the work of the other.

La tensión manifiesta entre las dos salas que ocupa la muestra, fue el principio desde el cual se fue diseñando el propio guión. Instancia coral que resulto atractiva tanto para los artistas, como para la mirada observante de Clara Caputo y Teo Wainfred, sus curadores. Ejercicio polifónico que hizo surgir rasgos familiares que intuían cada uno de ellos, pero que no hubieran despertado de no ser parte de un mismo planteo.

The evident tension between the two rooms occupied by the exhibition was the principle from which the script itself was designed. A coral instance that was attractive both for the artists and for the observant eye of Clara Caputo and Teo Wainfred, its curators. A polyphonic exercise that gave rise to familiar features sensed by each one of them but that would have not woken up otherwise.

La transparencia de la obra de Dorr, nos introduce a un espacio que inunda y estalla en colores y formas. Strada, Maculán, Raiteri y Cohen crean un ámbito de luz en medio del invierno neoyorquino y nos invitan a desplazar la mirada al interior de la segunda sala. Allí Passolini, Vitali y Salamanco, nos repliegan, nuevamente, llevando el relato al frío, al aire que se respiró en aquellos espacios y rincones sombríos de la patria señorial. Es el dialogo interno entre estos dos mundos aparentemente en pugna, lo que produce su mas alta expresión de contemporaneidad, tanto en estas tierras como en el país del norte. Ambos diletantes entre la tradición y el constante deseo de innovación.

The transparency of Dorr’s work introduces us to an area that floods and bursts into colors and shapes. Strada, Maculán, Raitieri and Cohen create a field of winter light in New York and invite us to look into the second room. There Pasolini, Vitali and Salamanca make us feel retreated and bring the story back to the cold air that is breathed into the spaces and dark corners of the manor country. It is the internal dialogue between these two apparently conflicting worlds which produces its highest expression of contemporaneity, both in this land and in the north country. Two worlds between tradition and the constant desire for innovation.

MARCOLINA DIPIERRO Oriunda de Chivilcoy, Pcia. De Buenos Aires, es egresada de la Esc. Nac. de Bellas Artes “Prilidiano Pueyrredón”. En 2001 realizó su primera exposición individual, Siluetaje. Hasta el momento tiene 4 muestras individuales, realizó intervenciones en sitios específicos en varios centros de arte y ha participado en diferentes exposiciones colectivas nacionales e internacionales. Entre ellas, en el año 2007 participa de Projections, en Montbéliard, Francia. En el año 2009, es invitada a participar de la muestra RIGOR Y ESTRUCTURA en el FNArtes y en Beloved Structure: The Argentine Legacy, Alejandra Von Hartz Gallery, Miami y recibe la BECA FONCA-CONACULTA. En 2010 realizó una intervención en el edificio de Fundación PROA (RAM). Su última muestra individual, “…en ángulo”, se presentó en la SALA 8 del Centro Cultural Recoleta. A sus 33 años vive y trabaja felizmente en Capital Federal.

Born in Chivilcoy, Province of Buenos Aires, she is a graduate of the National School of Fine Arts “Prilidiano Pueyrredón”. In 2001 she made her first solo exhibition, Siluetaje. So far she has had 4 individual exhibitions, she has carried out a number of site-specific interventions conducted in several art centers and has participated in several national and international exhibitions. LUCIO DORR “Mi trabajo complejiza la información tanto en su gestación teóricoconceptual como material. Mis puntos de partida son la abstracción y los métodos constructivos de la información, producto de un amplio espectro de registros del entorno urbano/arquitectónico que van de lo general a lo particular. Ellos se apoyan en situaciones eclécticas, heredadas e influidas por estilos de proveniencia básicamente europeos presentes de manera caótica en Buenos Aires. Todo este complejo desarrollo técnico conceptual en el que intervienen la arquitectura, lo urbano, los métodos de producción ligados a la disciplina proyectual y los conceptos provenientes de diferentes movimientos artísticos en algunos casos, convierten una sensación en objeto” Actualmente exhibe sus obras en una muestra colectiva en el Consulado Argentino en Nueva York.

“My work develops the issue of information both in its theoreticalconceptual and material gestation. My starting points are the abstraction and the construction methods of the information, the result of a wide range of records of the urban / architectural reality, from the general to the particular. They are based on eclectic situations, which are a legacy and are influenced by mainly European styles, present in a chaotic way in Buenos Aires. This complex conceptual technical development involving architecture, urban design, the production methods associated with design and concepts from different art movements in some cases, transform an object into a sensation.” He currently exhibits his works in a collective show at the Argentine Consulate in New York.

FLORENCIA LEVY Nace en Buenos Aires en 1979. Estudia en Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, Londres y en el I.U.N.A la Lic. en Artes Visuales.Fué becada por Fundación Telefónica para participar en el Programa Intercampos III y realizó clínica con Pablo Siquier. Su trabajo existe en una amplia variedad de medios incluyendo video, pintura, fotografía, instalación y proyectos en colaboración. Ha ganado becas internacionales para realizar Residencias artísticas en Estados Unidos, Taiwán, Holanda, Cuba y Corea del Sur. Su trabajo formó parte de exhibiciones nacionales e internacionales y ha recibido numerosos premios y distinciones entre ellos: 1er Premio categoría Jóvenes del Salón Nacional de Pintura Banco Central 2008, 1er Premio en el Concurso Nacional de Pintura UADE 2009,Mención Especial Premio Petrobras BA Photo 2011, Mención de Honor Premio de Pintura Banco Nación 2010, 3er Premio de Pintura Salón Nacional de Artes Visuales 2007. 1er Premio de Pintura Región Metropolitana del Premio Argentino de Artes Visuales 2006, Fundación OSDE, 1er Premio Bienal AAGA 2004, entre otros. She was born in Buenos Aires in 1979. She studied at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, London, and Visual Arts at IUNA. OLIGATEGA Oligatega es un grupo de artistas formado por Alfio Demestre, Mariano Giraud, Maximiliano Bellmann y Mateo Amaral, que trabaja desde 1999. Su principal característica es su forma de trabajo colectivo; evitando las jerarquías, elaborando técnicas y estrategias que le permitela construcción de una obra que no evidencia los aportes individuales, sino que se muestra como producción de un quinto integrante. El grupo utiliza indistintamente diversos medios como pintura, instalación, sonido, performance o fotografía. Es recurrente la aparición de escenarios y personajes de ciencia ficción, insertados en estructuras narrativas ininteligibles, donde abundan el humor abstracto, las tecnologías pervertidas, los deshechos culturales y el absurdo. Participaron en el Programa Beca Kuitca y en las clínicas de Diana Aisemberg. DUILIO PIERRI En esta muestra mi objetivo es reflejar un mundo mágico y poético preexistente, al cual tratan de barrerlo los fundamentalistas del botín de guerra bajo el nombre de la “civilización”. Desde la llegada de los españoles, hubo una resistencia. Y nuestro territorio fué el que mas tiempo logró resistir, al punto que la nación mapuche con el nombre “Araucaria” es el primer país libre de América. En la muestra trato de reflejar que es necesaria una reparación, desde la memoria, para que podamos recuperar nuestra identidad, y enriquecernos con la diversidad, a las que las políticas coloniales y neo coloniales trataron de desaparecer.” Hasta el 1 de Febrero en el Centro Cultural Recoleta, Sala Cronopios, “ULMEN, EL IMPERIO DE LAS PAMPAS” Un conjunto de 50 obras en acrílico sobre tela de gran formato realizadas en su mayoría en el transcurso de 2011, las cuales manifiestan la profunda investigación de Pierri sobre el genocidio aborigen ocurrido durante la llamada Conquista del Desierto. A su vez este grupo de obras es un recorrido plástico imperdible de su larga carrera.

Además, comprende la mayor cantidad de galerías de arte siendo el centro del mercado del arte en Buenos Aires. El Museo de Arte Hispanoamericano Isaac Fernández Blanco, el Centro Cultural de España, la Fundación F.J. Klemm y la galería Ruth Benzacar se destacan en la zona, junto a la calle Arroyo que alberga una gran cantidad de galerías. Retiro is a relatively small area in terms of surface, but it is a central hub to the main commercial and administrative activity of the city. It also contains the largest number of art galleries and it is the center of the art market in Buenos Aires. The Museo de Arte Hispanoamericano Isaac Fernández Blanco, the Centro Cultural de España, the F.J. Klemm Foundation and the Ruth Benzacar Gallery stand out in the area, along with Arroyo Street, which houses many galleries.

Luis Felipe Noé y Eduardo Stupía prosiguen el productivo diálogo sobre el dibujo, su práctica, su experiencia, su concepto y poética, que vienen sosteniendo desde hace ya varios años, y ahora lo hacen volcados a la pura acción de dibujar, ensayando un experimento inédito para ambos: una muestra de dibujos realizados a cuatro manos. Como en una suerte de partido de ping-pong, cada uno lanza ideas gráficas en la cancha del otro y espera la devolución para volver a responderle con el tiro más inesperado, y así sucesivamente. Luis Felipe Noé and Eduardo Stupía keep the productive dialogue on drawing, their praxis, their experience, its concept and poetics, which they have led for various years and which they currently follow immersed in the pure action of drawing, carrying out a utterly new experiment for both of them: a drawing exhibition undertaken by four hands. Like a sort of ping-pong match, each of them throws graphic ideas to the other side and waits the return to give back the most unexpected shot and so on. 129

Siendo el casco histórico de la ciudad, conjuga las calles empedradas y los mercados de anticuarios, bares típicos sumando la más contemporánea y actual oferta cultural. Consolidándose como uno de los polos de arte contemporáneo en Buenos Aires. El recientemente inaugurado Museo de Arte Moderno cuenta con una importante colección de arte moderno y en sus salas, exhibiciones temporárias de arte actual. San Telmo had in recent years a great growth in the tourism sector. As Buenos Aires’ historic district, it combines the cobblestone streets, antique markets and traditional bars with a lively modern cultural life. The district is becoming one of the poles of contemporary art in Buenos Aires. The recently opened Museo de Arte Moderno holds an important collection of modern art and in its rooms it also showcases temporary exhibitions of contemporary art.

Its mission is to research, preserve and disseminate the national film heritage since its beginnings. It keeps Lumiére, Pathé and Gaumont equipments, cameras, projectors, film coils, copiers and moviolas, and costumes of the stars of the golden age of national cinema. It also has props, scenic models, and Super 8, 35 mm, 16mm, 9 and 8 mm films. La muestra reúne el trabajo de siete artistas que desarrollan su obra en el campo de la pintura y la instalación. La reunión de estas producciones que orbitan juntas sin relación aparentemás que la de articular cromática y espacialmente el pensamiento pictórico demuestra un recorte generacional arbitrario y decidido, en términos de lineamiento y ruptura del mismo. El lado A, en la planta baja de la galería, muestra la selección solida de la producción de cada artista, apelando al resultado de su empírico trabajo con el que se afianzan sus tratados estéticos, formales y conceptuales; mientras que el lado B, en la trastienda, exhibe producciones atípicas, en pequeño formato mayormente, que amplían las posibilidades discursivas de cada artista en la misma exhibición. fuen7e hasta1 de Marzo del 2012

LA BOCA Junto a San Telmo y Barracas, esta zona, alguna vez proclamada República Independiente de La Boca debido al peculiar perfil que le dieron la olas inmigratorias provenientes de Italia entre 1880 y 1930, refuerza la zona sur como nuevo polo de arte en la ciudad. Hasta junio la Fundación Proa estará presentando la esperada muestra retrospectiva de Louise Bourgeois. Además, otros espacios de arte, como la galería Imán de La Boca y el Museo Quinquela Martín completan este circuito cultural obligado. Along with San Telmo and Barracas neighborhoods, this area, once declared La Boca Independent Republic due to the peculiar profile given by the immigration waves coming from Italy between 1880 and 1930, enforces the south area as a new art hub in the city. Until June Proa Foundation will be presenting the retrospective exhibition of Louise Bourgeois. PUERTO MADERO Con una ubicación próxima al centro de la ciudad, esta extensa zona está conectada al paseo ribereño y conjuga enormes emprendimientos inmobiliarios con espacios verdes a su sombra. Así es cómo los fines de semana se llena de paseantes y turistas. Esto obedece a que el área es además una atracción gastronómica ya que concentra gran cantidad de exclusivos bares y restaurantes. Ha sido, dada su reciente y explosivos crecimiento, uno de los últimos lugares en los que el arte ha hecho su entrada a través de expresiones callejeras y espacios artísticos. Hoy ya alberga dos espacios de gran interés, el Museo Colección Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat y la Torre YPF. Located close to Buenos Aires downtown, this vast area is connected to the riverside walk and combines colossal real state projects with green lunges on its shadows. That is why every weekend, it is visited by a great amount of walkers and tourists. Indeed, this area has to offer as well a wide range of exclusive pubs and restaurants, consolidating by these means a main gastronomic attraction. Due to its recent and explosive growth, it has been one of the latest places to be reached by art street expressions and spaces. Today, it is already housing two spaces of great interest, the Art Collection Museum Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat and the YPF Foundation- Art in the Tower Program. 153

La fisionomía popular de este barrio, lejos de impedir, potencia la posibilidad de convertirse en plaza para muestras de arte contemporáneo. En Almagro, pueden visitarse las muestras de Federico Towpyha, Arte x Arte y la Fundación Esteban Lisa. La casa donde vivieran Carlos Gardel y su madre, ubicada en el tradicional barrio del Abasto, ha sido recuperada con la finalidad de convertirla en un museo de sitio que rescate, conserve y difunda el patrimonio cultural ciudadano que representa la obra de Gardel. Su ambientación se realizó con elementos originales de la década de 1930 que han sido restaurados con el fin de sugerir al visitante el universo cotidiano del Zorzal Criollo. El museo cuenta, además, con una sala de exposiciones temporarias. The house where Carlos Gardel and his mother once lived, located in the traditional neighborhood of Abasto, has been restored and turned into a museum aimed to rescue, preserve and disseminate the cultural heritage that Gardel’s work represent. Its interior is arranged with original elements from the 1930’s that have been restored to suggest the everyday universe of the Zorzal Criollo. The museum also has a temporary exhibition hall.

Su edificio corresponde a la casa-taller donde Perlotti realizó gran parte de su producción escultórica. Su patrimonio incluye más de 900 piezas entre dibujos, pinturas, grabados, murales y variados géneros escultóricos. Se destaca la producción de Perlotti y obras de grandes maestros de la escultura nacional. The museum’s mission is to preserve, disseminate and promote the production of Argentine sculpture in general and the work of the artist Luis Perlotti in particular. The building used to be the home – studio where the artist developed most of his sculptural production. Its heritage holds over 900 pieces including drawings, paintings, prints, murals and a variety of sculptural genres. Perlotti’s production, the works of great national masters of sculpture and two murals by national painter Quinquela Martin stand out among the collection.

La exhibición de Alfonso Castillo, “La persistencia y el juego”, reúne fotografías de los últimos años que poseen la luminosidad y precisión de las arquitecturas de las ciudades que conoce y ama, que subrayan sus costumbres, anotan misterios, acentúan el fecundo encuentro entre luz y sombra, revelan la naturaleza que, también, el artista recrea artificialmente. Castillo se acercó a la fotografía a los 13 años, ingresando a un mundo inesperado que desde entonces, entre la persistencia y el juego, le permite expresarse sensible y apasionadamente. El Museo de Arte Español Enrique Larreta ofrece una interesante colección de arte español. Además se puede visitar la colección del Museo Histórico de Buenos Aires Cornelio Saavedra. El Departamento de Arte de la Universidad Torcuato Di Tella dictará talleres, cursos teóricos y un programa de artistas.
