The first instance was when police discovered the body of a deceased man on August 28 next to a sewage pipe.
“She was half-naked wearing only parts of her torn clothes. Her pink underwear and black tight was found estimated 150 meters away from the body,” said Sargent Maluleke.
The victim was found with his cellphone and other items in his possessions, however, the police noticed bruises on his face and head signaling an assault.
The young lady lives in Obed Nkosi section and her family arrived on scene and confirmed that she was last seen on Friday, September 1, with her father.
Ratanda police spokesperson Sargent Moss Maluleke was the on-duty officer when he responded to reports of another deceased person found in the Obed Nkosi open space near the newly developed housing project.
Ratanda Police have opened two murder dockets for investigation.

Heidelberg police officer arrested on suspicion of rape
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has apprehended a member of the South African Police Service (SAPS) on allegations of rape. The accused, 35-year-old Police Constable Bongumusa Nxumalo, stationed at the Heidelberg police station’s Visible Policing unit, was taken into custody by IPID investigators on Sunday, August 27. The disturbing incident revolves around the alleged rape of a 31-year-old woman, whose identity remains undisclosed. The victim reported that the assault took place on Saturday, August 12, at her residence in Ratanda Ext 23, Heidelberg. According to the victim’s testimony, Constable Nxumalo had visited her home, and the two had consumed alcohol. However, the situation took a horrifying
turn when the suspect reportedly forced himself upon the victim, committing the act of rape. Disturbingly, after the initial assault, both the victim and the suspect fell asleep at the scene of the incident.
Tragically, the victim was subjected to another assault when the suspect awoke the following morning. The shocking nature of the incident is added by the fact that the accused was a fellow police officer, leading the victim to doubt whether her case would receive proper attention. As a result, she hesitated to report the incident for six days. Following the victim’s eventual decision to come forward, IPID launched a thorough investigation into the matter. Subsequently, Constable Nxumalo was taken into custody on August 27. He appeared in court on Monday, August

Robbie Raburabu, a spokesperson for IPID, affirmed the seriousness of the case, stating, “The victim only managed to register the Rape case 6 days after the incident as she was not sure that her case would receive any attention given the fact that he was a police official himself, therefore he would be protected by fellow police officers.” The accused remained in custody until his formal bail application hearing on September 1, where he was released on R1000 bail pending more investigations. His next appearance is set for October 13. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for justice and accountability within the ranks of law enforcement.
Motorists urged to renew licences
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) hereby informs beneficiaries that the PostBank system has been restored . This is after the payment withdrawals or transactions following technical challenges experienced by social grant clients on payment days on September 5-6. Clients can now enjoy the use of the SASSA/PostBank cards to make purchases and payments. “Clients using the SASSA PostBank Gold Card could not make withdrawals or transact at ATMs and various retailers (other than PostBank Points of Sale), even though SASSA had made payments for the clients accounts,” said the agency.
With more than a million motor vehicle licences set to expire in September, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is encouraging motor vehicle owners to take proactive steps to renew their licenses and avoid penalties.
The technical challenges only affected clients who were using the SASSA PostBank Gold Card. Other clients, who were receiving grants at various paypoints or other banks (except Post Bank) were not affected and were able to withdraw their payments. Beneficiaries can make use of the alternative methods of payment available to receive their grants through various banks or retailers.
Numerous extensions to the motor vehicle licence expiry date that were granted during the COVID-19 period have resulted in a high number of renewals falling within the months of August, September, October, November and December.

Community wants justice for Lerato Kale
Hundreds of residents from Kwa-Thema, Tsakane and Duduza took to the streets on Friday, August 25, to march against the brutal killing of Lerato Kale and all other women who fell victim to gender-based violence and femicide.
The 19-year-old Lerato Kale was found dead under a pile of wet clothes at her home in Tsakane, south of Ekurhuleni. Her hands and feet were tied together with a doek by her alleged abusive boyfriend. She was strangled and bled to death through her nose and ears. This happens during the time where the country is observing Women’s Month. z The Gauteng Department of Social Development, as part of United Nations (UN) Orange UNiTE campaign, invited the community of KwaTsaDuza, law enforcement, government departments, and civil society organisations to wage war against perpetrators of GBVF. Brother of slain Lerato Kale, Tumelo, said it was a traumatic experience to see his sister’s lifeless body lying on the floor. “The way she was killed was an unpleasant thing to see which I don’t want anyone else to experience. Our family is still in shock, even now, we still find it difficult to accept that she is gone,” said Tumelo. He further applauded the community for banding together and taking a stand to raise awareness against the brutal killing of women. “We are looking forward to the case, and we hope justice will be served. The suspect has been arrested and will be appearing on the 14 September 2023 at Tsakane Magistrate Court,” added Tumelo. Sergeant Lebohang Ramaise from Tsakane SAPS reiterated that gender-based violence is rampant in the area and called

Gauteng Department of Social Development, Chief Director for Research, Population Development and Stakeholder Relations, Bongani Ngomane said Tsakane is one of the hotspots for GBVF and in the last 3 months, more than 3 women were brutally killed. “We are humbled that two of the families who are victimised are here to support the march, and as the Department we are here to advocate for women’s rights, peace and harmony,” added Ngomane. The Department will continue to observe Orange UNiTE campaign on the 25th of every month to call upon activists, governments, and communities to mobilise and highlight issues relevant to preventing and ending violence against women and children.

Joburg building fire to be investigated Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has appointed a commission of inquiry into the Usindiso Building fire in Marshalltown, which claimed the lives of 77 people and left many others injured and homeless. Justice Khampepe will be joined on the commission by Advocate Thulani Makhubela and Vuyelwa Mathilda Mabena. “The commission will investigate the prevalence of hijacked buildings in Johannesburg, what caused the deadly blaze in Marshalltown, and who must shoulder total responsibility for this tragedy. “In Joburg, the issue of stolen buildings is becoming a crisis, necessitating drastic
action. A thorough intervention is required to ensure that disasters like the Marshalltown fire, one of the deadliest in recent memory, never happen again,” Lesufi said. The commission’s terms of reference are expected to be gazetted soon, with a report to be produced for the Premier. Lesufi urged affected residents to come forward and assist the commission in its work. “We urge all affected communities and organisations to make submissions and work with the commission to get to the bottom of this intractable problem of hijacked buildings,” Lesufi said.

The technical difficulty that intermittently affected social grants customers using the Postbank South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Gold Cards has been resolved for all ATM and Post Office branch transactions.
This means that SASSA customers using the Postbank SASSA Gold Cards can now access their social grants money via ATM's and Post Office branches. “The processing of the reversals of funds debited on the accounts that declined since Tuesday (September 5) due to a system error is underway. PRASA does not have a .org (dot org) domain or a dedicated vacancy website. PRASA does not charge job applicants for background checks, nor does our recruitment process involve payments,” the agency said on Monday. PRASA has advised the public to look out for the following warning signs when determining the legitimacy of an official website by the agency.

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport (GDRT) intends to expand the establishment of Smart Licencing Centres in the areas within or near Townships, Informal Settlements and Hostels (TISH), utilising the existing infrastructure such as township malls, post offices and municipal facilities. GDRT will develop, implement and roll out Licensing Service Centres in the TISH communities to improve service delivery whilst creating socio-economic benefits. The GDRT has partnered with a talent acquisition service provider to conduct the response handling of applications for suitable candidates to potentially fill positions available at the approved Smart Licencing Centres. Springboks games to play on SABC TV
The 2023 Rugby World Cup begins on Friday, with the Springboks playing their first game on Sunday (September 10) against Scotland. The World Cup fixtures runs from Friday 8 September to Saturday 28 October. Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa has wished the three-time world champions, the Springboks, well as they participate in the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
MultiChoice and the SABC reached an agreement on on the broadcast rights to the tournament on Thursday, September 7.
“This week began with much concern that most of the country would be unable to watch the 2023 Rugby World Cup on SABC channels. This followed an impasse in negotiations between SABC and MultiChoice on broadcast rights for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
“The developments, where MultiChoice agreed to sub-license broadcast rights to the SABC for the 2023 Rugby World Cup means that millions of South Africans will be able to watch this global showpiece, and to see the Springboks go on to defend their world title. “I reiterate my call for a permanent solution to be found, as we cannot find ourselves in this situation before major sporting events,” Kodwa said.
“On behalf of all South Africans, I would like to wish the Bokke all the best in the World Cup. Do your best and make us proud. Bring it back Bokke!” Kodwa said. “The Springboks represent the best of South Africa. They inspire national unity, and foster social cohesion and national identity. This was captured by President Nelson Mandela during the 1995 Rugby World Cup, where the Springboks were a key ingredient to his message of national unity. “The current Springboks represent this country's diversity and represent South African excellence with their performances,” the Minister said.
SAFA launches new Coaching Academy
The South African Football Association (SAFA) recently launched the SAFA Clive Barker Academy in honour of fallen legend Clive Barker, who guided Bafana Bafana to Africa Cup of Nations glory in 1996. SAFA Vice President Linda Zwane addessed the launch held in Nasrec, Joburg, highting the main area of the Association’s vision, which is developing football in the country. “We are pushing two main agendas – being women’s football and youth football. It is critical that in line with these two agendas, our coaches are educated and skilled to be able to meet the international standards of these areas of football, and today’s launch speaks about that,’’ said Zwane.
Zwane applauded the SAFA regions that are doing great work with coach education, and urged more to come on board and empower their communities to ensure the growth of football.
SAFA Technical Committee chairperson Jack Maluleka paid tribute to much-loved Africa Cup of Nations-winning coach, who passed away on Saturday, 10 June 2023 after a brave battle with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). SAFA Technical Director Walter Steenbok detailed the mission of the Clive Barker Academy and also announced that the Association would once again host CAF A License Diploma courses. The first CAF A License Course will be held in November 2023.
“We are excited to announce the Clive Barker Academy and have already outlined some of the courses that will be offered from 2024. We as the South African Football Association have a responsibility to educate and uplift our coaches, who will in return elevate our football as a nation,” said Steenbok. “We will be offering a number of different courses under the Clive Barker Academy and we are open to working with stakeholders and institutions from South Africa and abroad to capitalize on the initiative in order to grow our football. “The Technical side of football is very interesting and modern football allows for specialists in many different aspects of the technical department.
In modern football, one can become a Technical Director, a performance analyst, a scout, youth coach/scout and many other areas. The SAFA Clive Barker Academy will focus of areas such as these to train our up and coming coaches,” concluded Steenbok
