Spring has arrived at Inspir, igniting joy and anticipation for warmer weather and the lush, colorful blooms that will soon grace our SkyPark and 2nd floor garden patio. This refreshing season presents abundant opportunities for residents to enjoy nature’s revival.

Our Experience Team looks forward to resuming walks through Central Park, exploring the city’s reawakening through a variety of On The Town experiences, and bringing in nature-based workshops and lectures. And, the Culinary Team has been hard at work creating new seasonally inspired dishes that will soon appear on our menus.

MARCH 2024

THE BENEFITS OF INTERGENERATIONAL EXPERIENCES

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting a delightful intergenerational dinner with a group of Cub Scouts from Pack 290. It was truly heartwarming to witness the interactions between the energetic Scouts, their parents, and our residents who had cherished relationships with Scouting in their youth. The evening was filled with laughter, reminiscence, and the exchange of experiences that bridged generations. Our ongoing mentorship program with students from the prestigious Nightingale Bamford School continues to be a resounding success. We are incredibly proud of those residents who have imparted their life wisdom and experiences onto these young minds, while also embracing the opportunity to learn from them about technology, current trends, and fresh perspectives. We look forward to continuing to cultivate an environment where generations come together, share stories, and learn from one another, reinforcing a sense of purpose, engagement, and belonging for all. If you have any recommendations or ideas to enhance our intergenerational programming, please feel free to reach out to our Experience Team. oin us to share your wisdom and experiences with the younger generation.

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT: ERICA JONG

CELEBRATING INSPĪR RESIDENT AND LITERARY ICON: ERICA JONG

Erica Jong is a trailblazing novelist, poet, and cultural icon whose 1973 novel Fear of Flying sparked a revolution with its candid exploration of female sexuality and identity. The book became an international sensation, selling over 20 million copies worldwide. It cemented Erica’s role as a pioneering feminist voice and one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. Her body of work, spanning novels, poetry, and essays, fearlessly challenged societal norms and perceptions of womanhood.

Jong’s illustrious career has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Fernanda Pivano Award for Literature in Italy, the Sigmund Freud Award, the Deauville Literary Award in France, the United Nations Award for Excellence in Literature, and Poetry Magazine’s prestigious Bess Hokin Prize.

We are honored to launch our “This Is Inspīr” series with Erica and her daughter Molly Jong-Fast, host of FastPolitics, MSNBC political analyst, and special correspondent for Vanity Fair. Together, this mother-daughter duo will reflect on Erica’s groundbreaking career, the journey of feminism, and their shared passion for using the written word to inspire change and empowerment.

At Inspīr Carnegie Hill, we’re not just a senior living community - we’re a vibrant tapestry woven from the remarkable stories and achievements of our residents.

ON THE TOWN: AN EVENING WITH AUDRA MCDONALD

Last month, our residents were treated to a remarkable performance by the incomparable Audra McDonald at the 92NY. The evening was a true celebration of McDonald’s extraordinary talent and illustrious career.

McDonald, a record-breaking six-time Tony Award winner, enthralled the audience with her powerful vocals and captivating stage presence. From showstopping Broadway numbers to heartfelt ballads, she showcased the versatility and emotional depth that have made her one of the most celebrated performers of our time.

Highlights included McDonald’s renditions of beloved classics from shows like Ragtime, Porgy and Bess, and Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill – the latter of which earned her a historic sixth Tony Award in 2014. Her rich alto mesmerized the crowd, transporting them to the heart of each character and story.

This On the Town Experience was truly one for the ages – a chance to witness a living legend in an intimate setting, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.

AUTHOR EVENING WITH ALEX PRUD’HOMME

Author Alex Prud’Homme visited Carnegie Hill in February for a reading and presentation on his book, Dinner with the President – Food, Politics, and a History of Breaking Bread at the White House. He explored the fascinating stories of first families through the food they ate and served, and in doing so painted a unique picture of the institution of the presidency – and its place in American history.

PERSPECTIVES ON ISREAL WITH JONNY

DANIELS

In February, global humanitarian leader Jonny Daniels, founder of From the Depths engaged residents in a thought-provoking talk on the state of Israel today. Drawing from his background as a former Israeli Defense Forces officer and advisor, Daniels shared nuanced perspectives on Israel’s political landscape and its effects on Jewish communities worldwide.

Residents of all backgrounds, engaged in the discussion. Daniels provided military, social, and political insights while instilling hope, stating: “The battle is educating against hatred and toward peacefulness - that’s where Israel is looking. There is always hope ahead.”

The Q&A session allowed residents to delve deeper into topics like media misinformation and rising anti-Semitism. Daniels’ visit exemplified Inspīr’s commitment to fostering intellectual discourse and cultural exchange through iconic thought leaders.
