FAMILY UPDATE

FALL 2024

COZY UP FOR A NEW SEASON

As the leaves begin to change and air grows crisp, we’re excited to present the Fall Newsletter, sharing the latest updates and exciting developments in our communities. In this edition, you’ll find highlights of engaging activities and delightful outings that are keeping our residents active and connected this season. We’re also thrilled to update you on the innovative technologies we’re implementing to enhance the quality of life and care for our residents. From seasonal fun to cutting-edge advancements, we’re committed to making this fall both enriching and memorable for everyone in our community.

HONORING OUR COMMUNITY’S SPIRIT

Maplewood at Newtown recently participated in the local Labor Day Parade, exemplifying our commitment to community connection and vibrant living. This cherished event has been a Newtown tradition since 1962 and one that many of our residents have enjoyed year after year. Residents joyfully represented Maplewood on a decorated float, engaging with neighbors and fostering a sense of belonging. This event highlights the importance we place on community involvement as a key component of overall wellness.

The knitting group at Maplewood at Strawberry Hill visited the Malta House, a nonprofit organization that provides wraparound services for at-risk, single mothers, and gifted handmade hats and blankets.

In honor of September 11th, Maplewood at Brewster recognized local heroes at the Brewster Police and Fire Stations, gifting first responders a Gratitude Goodie Basket to express their deepest appreciation for their daily service to commemorate the sacrifices made 23 years ago.

Across all Maplewood communities, we regularly organize similar activities that promote active engagement, social connections, and the celebration of timeless traditions.

CELEBRATING GENERATIONS

In celebration of Grandparents Day, we honored the wisdom and legacy our residents share with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A heartfelt video captured their cherished advice—“Be kind,” “Find happiness,” and “Save wisely,”—reminding us all of the importance of their life lessons.

Across our communities, residents and families enjoyed fun-filled activities like finger painting, petting zoos, and more. It was a joyful day celebrating the love, knowledge, and lasting impact our residents have on their families and future generations. Thanks to all who were able to join us!

SAVORING THE FINAL DAYS OF SUMMER

As summer winds down, our residents have been enjoying the beautiful weather with a variety of outdoor activities. From blueberry picking and beach trips to carnivals and zoo visits, these memorable outings capture the vibrant spirit and camaraderie that thrive in our communities.

These shared experiences highlight the joy of spending time with friends and family, creating lasting memories as we transition into the fall season.

ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS

MONTH

This month we’re raising awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia-related illnesses that affect millions of individuals and their families. We are deeply committed to supporting those affected by Alzheimer’s, offering compassionate, expert care that prioritizes dignity and respect. Maplewood is proud to be an advocate, helping families navigate the challenges of this illness with empathy and support.

RECOGNIZING OUR EXCEPTIONAL RESIDENTS

Maplewood at Newtown recently celebrated an incredible milestone - the 101st birthday of resident and World War II veteran. The event showcased our associates' passion, creativity, and dedication to honoring our residents' lives and achievements. The celebration brought together family, friends, and distinguished guests, including state leaders and military officials, to recognize his century-plus of life experiences. Our team went above and beyond to create a memorable occasion, coordinating with various dignitaries to present him with special honors, including a medal of the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara and a Certificate of Special Recognition.

In another display of our associates' creativity and dedication, Maplewood at Mayflower Place in West Yarmouth, MA, hosted a delightful "Not-SoNewlywed" game. The winning residents were treated to their chosen reward: a delicious meal of lobster rolls accompanied by refreshing gin tonics. This fun activity not only entertained participants but also allowed them to reminisce and share their experiences with fellow residents.

These events exemplify how our associates strive to create meaningful experiences that celebrate our residents' unique stories and accomplishments. Their efforts transform everyday moments into extraordinary memories, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

HARVESTING GRATITUDE FOR OUR ASSOCIATES

To show our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our associates, we recently hosted Farmer’s Markets across our communities.

This special event was a heartfelt thank you, featuring an array of fresh, local produce. Our associates had the opportunity to fill a bag to bring home and make delicious meals.

The Farmer’s Markets were not just a celebration of their efforts, but also a way to express our gratitude for their unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of our residents.

INNOVATION UPDATE

We’re looking forward to rolling out TSO Life, a state-of-theart communication and engagement platform. This innovative system will:

Streamline communication between our staff, residents, and families

Provide a user-friendly interface for accessing community information and events

Offer personalized content based on residents’ interests and needs

Enable easier sharing of photos, videos, and updates with loved ones

As we progress with the implementation, we’ll be offering training sessions and resources to help everyone make the most of this new platform.

Lastly, we’re excited to be piloting Zinnia TV in our Memory Care program. This specialized content service offers therapeutic programming tailored for individuals with memory loss. Early feedback from our Memory Care team has been overwhelmingly positive. Some key features of Zinnia TV include:

Calming visual content designed to reduce anxiety and agitation

Interactive programs that encourage cognitive engagement

Customizable playlists to suit individual preferences and needs

Content that promotes reminiscence and social interaction

We’re closely monitoring the impact of Zinnia TV and look forward to potentially expanding its use based on the results of this pilot.

These innovations reflect our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional care and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.
