EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS:

GETTING OUT ON THE TOWN

Stephen Sondheim Collection at Doyle — Earlier this month, we had the extraordinary opportunity to explore Stephen Sondheim’s personal collection at Doyle Auctioneers & Appraisers, a renowned institution in the world of fine art and antiques. Established in 1962, Doyle has been a cornerstone of New York’s cultural landscape for over six decades, occupying a prestigious location on Manhattan’s Upper East Side near Museum Mile. This exclusive tour offered a rare glimpse into the private world of the legendary Broadway composer. The visit began with fascinating insights into Sondheim’s life and his passionate pursuit of collecting, with a particular focus on his love for vintage board games. Attendees were then treated to a curated viewing of various parts of Sondheim’s eclectic collection throughout the auction house, providing a unique perspective on the artist’s personal tastes and interests.

Whitney Biennial: A Showcase of Contemporary American Art — We had the privilege of experiencing the Whitney Biennial, the longest-running survey of American art and a hallmark of the Whitney Museum since 1932. Our visit began with breathtaking views of the Hudson River and New York’s West Side, setting the stage for an inspiring artistic journey.

A one-hour docent-led tour introduced us to works by 71 visionary artists, offering insights into a diverse range of contemporary American art. Highlights included: Eddie Rodolfo Apricio’s “Paloma Blanca Deja Volar” (2024): A dynamic piece made of amber, volcanic stone, and found objects, which dramatically changed during the exhibition. Suzanne Jackson’s “Rag to Wobble” (2021): Suspended sculptures created from dried paint and acrylic, featuring both translucent and vibrantly colorful elements. Karyn Olivier’s “How Many Ways Can You Disappear” (2021): An installation combining fishing ropes, lobster traps, and salt-made ropes, exploring themes of memory and place.

This engaging tour provided a unique glimpse into the evolving landscape of American art, showcasing innovative techniques and thought-provoking concepts.

INSPIRING PEOPLE SERIES:

LISA HOSTEIN’S POWERFUL INSIGHTS FROM ISRAEL

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Lisa Hostein, Executive Editor of Hadassah Magazine and daughter of our dear friend and neighbor, Rollie, for her captivating presentation as part of our Inspiring People Series.

Lisa shared powerful insights from her recent trip to Israel with the group I Believe Israeli Women. Her firsthand accounts of meetings with survivors of the October 7th Nova Festival attack, visits to military bases, and discussions with negotiators provided a moving and educational perspective on current events.

As a trailblazer in Jewish journalism and an award-winning storyteller, Lisa’s presentation, accompanied by striking images, offered our community a unique and valuable glimpse into these complex issues.

We’re grateful to Lisa for sharing her experiences and to Rollie for being part of our Inspīr family. Events like these enrich our community and foster meaningful discussions.
