Activities: Haptic: Paper making, paper folding, paper making with alternative materials Designing packaging, analyzing a product, design, sustainability, experimenting with the home made paper, making your own paints. Coming up with your own soap design, soap shapes with cut outs, clay, mold covered in latex, paper molds with parchment paper, soap font, brand, Digital: Design and film your advertising campaign, testing your product with the market, analysis of advertising media.


Design challenges The purpose of these homeworks is to improve your skills at: Presenting your ideas Enjoying the process of brainstorming- you will get a higher mark if you include your preliminary sketches, a sketchbook should be filled with a range of design ideas. Using rendering and annotation to make your design ideas understandable Use graphite & colour pencils to a sophisticated level to communicate form & function You should be spending 30 minutes minimum per week on your design homeworks. You must annotate all your sketches and write the title and number at the top of the page.

1. Cover your sketchbook. Be creative. It must include your name, form and the subject name : Design. 2. Design a car. Who would buy it and why? 3. Design a skateboard or snowboard. 4. Make an observation drawing of the packaging of soap or shower gel. Describe it. What is successful about this design? State why do you think your family bought this product and not another? 5. Design a new shampoo. Who is it targeted at? 6. Design a font that suggests an environmentally product. For inspiration look at Dafont.com 7. Design a new flag for a country you have lived in. Explain your idea 8. Collect 5-10 pieces of packaging that you think will bio-degrade at different rates. Justify your decisions. Photograph and label. 9. Design a new Swatch watch with packaging. 10. Design a shoe or trainer with packaging. OPTIONAL EXTENSION: a) Design an iPad cover. What age group would buy this? b)Design a cushion / chair for a teenagers room c) In class we will be creating new materials from discarded and sustainable sources.
