2015 Marian Catholic High School

The five individuals chosen for the 2015 Marian Catholic High School Hall of Fame share a deep affection for and an abiding commitment to the institution that provided an intellectual, spiritual, and moral foundation and help launch them into the world. These outstanding members of the Marian Catholic community will be recognized for their accomplishments at the 2015 Hall of Fame Awards dinner on February 5, 2015, at Olympia Fields Country Club.

Selected this year are Daniel Mulhollan ’62, Alumnus of the Year; Mark Weishaar ’76 and Joe Klupchak ’85, Athletes of the Year; John Kozojed, Spirit of Marian; and Charlie Misovye ’78, Fine Arts Distinguished Achievement. By Marcia Borucki Neville

The Hall of Fame awards honor alumni, parents, faculty and friends of Marian Catholic who have distinguished themselves in their chosen field and have upheld the Dominican tradition of unselfish service to others. The awards were established in 1994 to commend those graduates and friends of Marian who have embodied and exemplified the school’s mission of “Teaching Scholars with a Soul.”

Band records another top ten finish at BOA Grand Nationals

The Marian Catholic Marching Band finished their 2014-2015 season on a high note, with performances that continued to fuel the band’s stellar reputation nationwide. This year’s show, entitled “Rapture of the Deep” took the band and audiences on an underwater journey. Rapture of the deep refers to a condition that happens when a body is underwater too long and nitrogen replaces oxygen. This causes the person, in this case a guard member, to hallucinate. The guard member hallucinates sea monsters that ultimately save her. Director Greg Bimm said that beyond the storyline the show was a “parable about belief and being saved.” This show was the foundation that led the band to another year of excellence. Starting in the summer, students from all grade levels and incoming freshmen, began working on this season. After several local competitions, the band continued onto the State Championship held at Illinois State University. The Marian Catholic Marching Band had a strong showing at this early competition and defended their state championship title for the sixth consecutive year and also won their class, making this their 35th straight class title. The band then attended the Bands of America Super Regional in Indianapolis, where they competed with bands from numerous Midwestern states. Marian Catholic was one of the fourteen bands to continue to the finals of the competition and made a splash, being named third overall.
