I’ve learned 5 new things about dramatic photography
The beauty of photography is its unique ability to communicate in a way unlike other visual mediums. It is meant to be a fraction of time, yet a moment frozen for as long as the photo exists.
Dramatic photographs can transport a stranger somewhere they have never been or record an intimate personal memory of the creator. By just looking at this dramatic photograph, one sees a whole story unfold with a beginning, middle, and end.
What does the concept of drama mean to you? Is it darkness and shadow? Contrast? Expression? Mood? A combination of all these elements? A true photograph master can control all these elements to create drama.
Everything in photography boils down to light. Manipulating light for dramatic effect is an art in itself. But, before we can use light, we first look at how we see light and how we see a photograph.
Looking at this image on the right, I’ve learned there are 5 things one notice first:
1. THE MIDDLE
2. THE BRIGHT PART
Our eyes are attracted to the most luminous part of the image
We notice things in the center of the image first and work toward the edges
3. AREAS OF CONTRAST
4 Our eyes also gravitate to contrast – either through luminance or complementary colors.
4. HIGHLY SATURATED COLORS
The more saturated a color is, the more our eyes notic it.
5. HUMAN FACES
We recognize faces, even those that are out of focus or obscured.
Knowing what the eyes are gravitated towards, one can plan your lightning in such a way for best impact on the viewer and to tell the story you want them to hear.
One can create strong photos by using shadow and contrast. Contrast is something that occurs naturally when you shoot in light. By exposing the highlights, one get strong shadows.
Contrast visualizes shadows and highlights and it also helps to translate the idea of depth. This way elements pop out or recede into the background.
If your composition skills are good and you understand how to control exposure on your camera you can use high contrast lighting to create dramatic photos like the ones in this tutorial. It’s all about using the interplay of light and shadow to create interesting and dynamic compositions. Don’t show the viewer everything, and leave gaps for their imagination to fill.

AN OUTFIT IS RARELY COMPPLETE WITHOUT ACCESSORIES
This could be a simple silver pendant worn with a basic frock and bare feet; or a cocktail hat, peeptoepumps, seamed tights and clutch bag paired with a fitted skirt suit for head-to-toe glamour. Either way, the balance needs to be right. It takes consideration in front of a full length mirror, and a willingness to experiment, to be an accessories queen.
There are days when one has no time for proper accessorizing, but one may feel more confident when one match a few items together. That’s not speaking of matchymatchy belt, bag and shoes, or allone-era gear. Just a good mix of stylish pieces that, when combined, create a story and set the tone for day or evening …. for yourself, more than anything.
You and I could be wearing the exact same clothes, but how we pull our looks together may make those clothes look entirely different to one another. And our different styles would be visible – it would be obvious what my style is, and what yours is. And that’s a wonderful thing.
Accessories are the difference that makes the difference. It is in these small details that style can be found. And that style may be subtle, or it may be blaringly obvious, or somewhere in between. The most important thing about it is it’s individual. It’s personal. It’s an expression of you, the way you choose to do it.
ROUND SHAPES FOR HOME DECOR
2022 will have a lot of rounded shapes this year. We are seeing lots of curves in furniture to provide an environment of comfort and calm
Art Deco is a distinctive style that was popular in the 1920s and 30s. It’s distinguished by geometric shapes and opulent finishes that ooze luxury. Modern Art Deco style can be an effective way to create a dynamic interior with a hint of glamour, that nods to the past without looking dated
When you’re seeking art deco-inspired furniture or accessories, look for several regularly occurring motifs, including:
This year brings arches, curved lines, ribs and flutes to the stage of which we will see a lot.
HOW TO CHANGE OUT 50 SHADES OF GREY IN 2022
Make your home décor stand out from the rest
Out with the old, in with the new and that’s true for interior design trends in 2022. Swop the greys with many colors from multi-color hand-painted interiors to spray paint cabinets.
What’s out is 50 shades of grey, it’s too cold and modern. People tend to seek out the comforts of home, that homey and lived in feeling where you walk in your space and feel embraced by the warm and welcoming feeling of your home décor.
Expect to see more color, texture, depth, richness and layers in 2022. Unleash that richness of colourand texture in your home. If your home’s colors are still in the greay tones, just add warm neutrals with texture to it. Then add colorful vases like bright blue and red, bright yellow-green and pinks in the form of Scatter cushions, table. Runners, lamps, etc.
White on white home interior is out, this minimalist look is too stark and uninviting.
Colour do bring personality and interest, not drab and boring with playfulness. Color makes the rooms pop. To be on the safe side,
One might want to stick to the warm neutrals with some color in the home. For those who are daring and want to feel their creativity bounce through their being, now is the time to go wild on pattern and color. This year is not going to bring us back to old boring and cool neutrals, let’s have fun in our interior spaces.
