From Friday, April 25th, to Sunday, April 27th, Circle K members from all over our Wisconsin-Upper Michigan district came together for an energy packed weekend full of service, fundraising for Camp Wawbeek, workshops and of course, bonding. Camp Wawbeek, where Spring Fling, our very first district event of this new Circle K year was held, is an Easter Seals camp located near Wisconsin Dells, WI which offers summer programs for children and adults with disabilities. On Friday night, while clubs were registering, there were several in-house service projects that were all geared towards Governor Teasha’s Governor’s Project: The Literacy Project. We created bookmarks, crayon boxes, a rhyming memory game, and vocabulary flashcards to all be donated. Afterwards, we played a huge Dr. Seuss themed scavenger hunt all over Camp in small groups to get to know each other even more. The night ended with a midnight run to the local Denny’s.
4
On Saturday, attendees were able to participate in numerous service projects all over camp, including highway cleanup, raking, helping at Respite, sorting, wood-chopping and cleaning out the dining hall. Camp Wawbeek really relies on us every year to help get Camp ready for the summer, and then to prepare it for winter when we are there for Membership Awareness Conference in October. After several hours of volunteering, attendees had several different sessions throughout the afternoon to attend, including workshops such as officer trainings, HipHop and Social/Fundraisers, Divisional meetings, and District Committee meetings. That night, we enjoyed some hilarious performances from contestants in the Miss Universe Pageant show and danced the night away. 4
“When he worked, he really worked. But when he played, he really PLAYED.” — Dr. Seuss
There were numerous fundraisers held throughout the entire weekend, including the silent auction, where members were allowed to bid on different prizes such as club t-shirts and other Circle K swag, One Fish Two Fish, where members could purchase paper Dr. Seuss fish to fill the sea, the Board Challenge, where the three district board members with the most money had to compete in fun challenges, and of course, our mascot auction where clubs (and individuals) could bid on other club mascots with the intention of promoting interclubs in our district. As a district, we were able to raise $1,638.19 for Camp Wawbeek! In the end, we had 82 attendees at Spring Fling to make it one heck of an unforgettable weekend. Thank you to everyone for coming and we hope to see you at many more district events this next year! Mark your calendars for the next one, Membership Education Recruitment Program, on Saturday, August 2nd in Green Bay, WI!

WUMvasion in By: Lena Scheibengraber Where can you find herds of cows, a pod of lobsters, a cast of crabs, a flamboyance of flamingoes, and a school of sharks all in one place? Your natural response is probably “a zoo”, and while that would be correct, this is also true for an event this summer; one known simply as CKIx. So, you must be thinking “What the heck is this event where animals roam free? What does this have anything to do with Circle K?” CKIx is a sixday total experience full of service, leadership and fellowship. CKIx was previously known to the Circle K world as two different events- Large Scale Service Project and International Convention. The event used to be clearly split, having a few days of pure service and fun, before transitioning to the “business” side of the event- convention. This year, the international board is merging the events into one big one, waving service throughout, while still tackling all of the business that has to get done. If you are interested in joining the Nashville
WUMvasion please contact Lena
Scheibengraber at (scheibls@gmail.com). There is still time to get your questions answered and your registration in. So put CKIx on your calendar for
17th-22nd; we hope to see you there! Want basic information about CKIx? Check out these helpful links!

neighborhoods. Each year, the Large Scale Service Project committee plans various projects throughout the host city. Ranging from small, indoor projects- like making ELIMINATE candle jars- to the elaborate outdoor projects- like building two playgrounds- they have it covered. Specifics are not released yet, but from what I’ve heard, the service is going to be big-hitting and impactful!

iwanis family members from all over the world coming together.
While you may be driving down with a bunch of WUMderful people, you are exposed to, and put in groups with, Circle K members from all over the world. Yes, while North America holds a bulk of the Circle K clubs, you also get to meet people from Jamaica, Aruba, the Philippines and much, much more. Early on, you are assigned a group with an awesome team leader, who will ensure that all of your team members get to know each other, have fun, and enjoy all of the planned social and service activities.
I
mportant decision-making & resources. This event is about having fun, yes, but there’s also business to be done! This is our once chance to represent the members of the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District during important decision-making. What exactly will be happening? Elections of our international board (including Subregion C Trustee, International President and International Vice President), workshops about various things (club-building, membership education, club officer training, etc.), and voting on bylaw amendments that have the potential to impact our entire organizational structure and policies.

perience of a lifetime.
Friends, service, business, and fun. Can I really say more? This event is one that brings hundreds of Circle K members back each year and this year, it will not disappoint. From the group bonding activities to the late-night entertainment, there is something for everyone to have fun and relax. Finally, knowing that Circle K is international is one thing, but seeing it is another. And whether you take 100 photos or 1,000, you will remember this event forever.

“the best life choice you could ever make” July 27th-August 1st Morgantown, IN
By: Teasha Kirkwood Leadership Academy is the best life choice you could ever make… the end. Well, I guess I could give a little bit more detailed as to why. Last summer, I went to Leadership Academy, a 6 day self and leadership development program hosted by Circle K International and it was the best decision I could ever make. While leadership is a tenet of Circle K, often times finding your own leadership style could be difficult. Personally, I found this to be true, yet after attending Leadership Academy not only could I say I am leader, but I knew that I could make a difference at my school, my community, and for this organization. What makes Leadership Academy so magnificent is the dedication of the Circle K staff, the amazing Circle K’ers in attendance, and of course the lack of outside communication. Chris Martz along with his staff of neighborhood facilitators are dedicated to creating a safe environment that encourages personal development. To this day, I still talk to my facilitator, Natalie from Aruba; she was supportive, kind, and a wonderful facilitator. Another factor to the success of this event is the people who attend Leadership Academy. It is an application based process that encourages applicants to be honest and vulnerable; the overall sincerity of every individual in attendance consistently left me in awe. I don’t think I would have gotten so much from Leadership Academy if it wasn’t for the staff and the Circle K’ers in attendance. They have definitely left an impression in my life and heart. Last but not least, the disconnection from Facebook and the technology was amazing. Good luck trying to find a signal! While I believe that everyone should attend Leadership Academy, however that is just impossible. However if you have a desire to develop your inner leader and do more for your community and others then I highly suggest that you apply.
Interested in attending Leadership Academy? Contact Teasha at teasha.kirkwood.cki@gmail.com for more information!

Lauren Adams and Anneli Williams, UW-LaCrosse Lauren and Anneli graciously volunteered much of their time this past week toward service. Lauren Adams, our continuing service chair, has kept us informed with new service projects that we are able to do as a club. Some examples include the Scrabble Bee and the March for Babies. Anneli Williams actively participated in the Scrabble Bee as a Word Waiter and came to Spring Fling. She is also walking for the March of Babies on May 3!
Kensie Burreson, Edgewood College Kensie just joined our club and wanted to go to Spring Fling. She was super excited all throughout the weekend even through the lack of sleep. Letter from the Editor
Dearest WUM Members, A lot has happened since the last Circle of Sharing issue! I attended Spring Fling, where my predecessor, Taryn Grisham, and I led a Bulletin Editor and Social Media workshop. Not to mention, there were some great service opportunities to help out Camp Wawbeek and along with this, an unforgettable time with friends (new and old!). I cannot wait until our next official district event, the Membership Education and Recruitment Program, which will take place on August 2nd in Green Bay. Until then, I will be studying abroad in Peru! I leave in about one week and will be staying there throughout the moth of June. I can still be reached at my e-mail address, marissabmore@gmail.com. I will try my best to be as available as possible, and will reply to your communication as soon as I can. When I return, I will get started working on the July issue of the bulletin right away. If you have any suggestions or submissions for the July bulletin, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. I would LOVE to feature your club! I hope to have a good idea of the next issue’s layout before I leave for Peru! I wish you all the best of luck on your finals and graduations. I know you all will do just WUMderful. A special shout out goes to my predecessor, Taryn Grisham, who will be graduating in just a few days! Thank you for being my biggest fan. Have a beautiful beginning of your summer, and don’t forget to “live to serve, love to serve!” Yours in Service, Marissa Blackmore
