FRP TANKS

F

iberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) Tanks have been used for many years as a containment solution for wide range of liquids that might corrode or interact with tanks made from non-resinous materials. Fiberglass and resin binds a strong matrix that is almost as durable as metal. Fiberglass can be underground or above surface.

CONSTRUCTION

he construction industry has historically been dominated by four traditional materials: stone, timber, concrete, and steel. In an effort to slow and/or prevent infrastructure deterioration, engineers are looking for new materials that can be used to prolong and extend the service lives while maintaining durability and functionality. Fiber reinforced polymers (FRPs), a relatively new class of non-corrosive, high-strength to weight ratio that emerged as a practical alternative for a number of engineering applications.

teintek Inc. uses its expertise and knowledge in composite engineering to apply various modification or design concepts from its client. With the use of up to date cad softwares, Steintek Inc. is able to make ideas become a reality.

T

PLASTIC THERMOFORMING hermoforming is a manufacturing process where a plastic sheet is heated to a pliable forming temperature. The raw material is then placed to a specific mold with the desired shape. After cooling, the plastic is trimmed to create a usable part or product. Steintek uses combination of vacuum and thermal forming to ensure profile accuracy.

Additional Notes What is FRP?

F

iberglass Reinforced Plastic (sometimes referred to as Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer) are made of glass fibers and plastic (Polymer) resins that when combined by the process of lamination, offers a stronger, durable, non-corrosive and heat resistant products. Using a mold to create the finished product, fiberglass is

generally thermoset with a type of plastic or epoxy resin. When cured, the end product will hold its shape because of the resin, while the fiberglass will provide strength and stiffness. Steintek inc. uses market standards resin that offer unique properties not found in other raw materials. Fiberglass products can have increase mechanical properties and corrosion resistance based on required values.

resin types Orthophthalic Resin, Isophthalic Resin, Vinyl Ester Resin

materials Wood, ABS Plastics, Acrylic Plastics, Fibers - Chopped Matt, Woven Roving, Cont. Roving, Bi-axial, Steel, Stainless Steel

Product terms of cylindrical structures. The process involves winding filaments under varying amounts of tension over a male mould or mandrel.

materials such as wood, steel and fiberglass. This gives the shape and size and must be done accurately to produce a good product.

FIRE RETARDANT – is a substance that reduces flammability of fuels or delays their combustion.

RESIN - any natural or synthetic organic compound consisting of a noncrystalline or viscous liquid substance

COMPOSITE - are made from two or more materials with significant physical or chemical properties, that when combined, produce a material with new characteristics.

frp stiffeners - are commonly use to identify rigid members of a fiberglass product.

SOLID SURFACE – is a man-made material usually composed of marble dust, bauxite, acrylic or polyester resins and pigments.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE – The ability to resist chemical changes. Chemically resistant materials do not react with abrasives or their bonds.

joint lamination - is a part where a connection is made by the use of fiber and resin.

ABS – Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene Carbon fiber - is an extremely strong and light fiber-reinforced polymer which contains carbon fibers. It can be expensive to produce but are commonly used whenever high strength-toweight ratio and rigidity are required.

FIBERGLASS - is a reinforced polymer made of a plastic matrix of fine fibers and resins. FILAMENT WINDING – is a fabrication technique for manufacturing composite material, usually in the form

GFRP – Glass Fiber reinforced Plastics

LAMINATION – is a process of combining the fiber and resin. PULTRUSION – is a continuous process for manufacturing materials with constant cross-section. product mold - are made in

THERMOFORMING - is a manufacturing process where a plastic sheet is heated to a pliable forming temperature and formed to a specific shape in a mold. vacuum infusion - also called Resin infusion, is a fabrication technique that uses vacuum pressure to drive resin into a laminate. Dry materials are laid into the mold and the vacuum pressure is applied before resin is introduced.
