2014 was set to be a year of learning and development for Will Davison. Having inked a deal with V8 Supercar newbies Erebus Motorsport to compete in the championship in an E63 Mercedes Benz, Will knew that it would take some time and development with the team for him to get back to the front of the field. Or so he thought. In the nine races so far in 2014, Davison and teammate Lee Holdsworth have already surpassed Erebus’s top ten finish tally for the entire 2013 season. In Tasmania last month, Doric Ambassador Davison equalled the team’s best ever race finish with a fourth in Race Six. Then in Winton, the team collected its first V8 Supercar race win with Lee Holdsworth taking the chequered flag. “I had always hoped that we could get off to a flying start this year with Erebus, but I wasn’t banking on it. We have a great car in the Mercedes and I’m in this for the long term to get the best out of it that we can. “So I’m incredibly excited that it’s all happening so quickly. This team works so hard and are so passionate about what we do. It’s a great environment to be in and to think this is just the start is a great feeling.”

FROSTYHAS BEEN A PICTURE OF CONSISTENCY IN THE OPENING EVENTS OF SEASON 2014 >>
www.doric.com.au >> facebook.com/doricracing >> twitter.com/doricracing >> 9 With one race win, three podiums, and just one finish outside the top ten so far in 2014, Mark Winterbottom has cemented his place as one to watch. Frosty’s measured and consistent approach has put him in good stead in the Championship fight. His impressive run gives him the lowest average finishing position across the entire grid heading into this weekend’s round at Pukekohe. With four races in the program this weekend, there are plenty of chances to add to the all-important championship points tally. Already a quarter of the way through the season, every point gained will be vital for Frosty’s Championship charge. Despite a difficult run at New Zealand last year, following a solid outing at Winton, the Ford star is a strong favourite for success at Pukekohe. “It is a really good result for us,” said Winterbottom, following his first win of the season at Winton. “It was nice to enjoy the closing laps with such a big lead and it was great to share such an important home win with all the fans. “To get a win with my new engineer Grant (McPherson) is a big confidence boost and this weekend we worked really closely and this success will provide great confidence throughout the team and pays everyone back for their hard work.”

Chaz Mostert had big expectations for the 2014 V8 Supercar season. The 21-year-old was given a long awaited promotion to the Blue Oval factory team this year and was looking to continue to expand on his 2013 success. But while the young gun continues to show glimpses of brilliance, a number of factors have conspired against him, hampering his grand dreams. Nonetheless, inspired by a positive round for Ford Performance Racing at Winton, Mostert remains confident the season will turn around in his favour soon, and continues full speed ahead in his campaign for V8 glory. “It was fantastic for the team to win [at Winton] and the result is a
great reward for everyone,” said the 22-year-old. “My Ford was a rocket ship and we went from 15th to sixth which is credit to the guys working on my car.” “We were quick and it would’ve been good if we qualified higher as we could’ve contended for the podium. I feel we’ve learnt quite a bit this weekend and heading to New Zealand I think we will be in contention there if we sort out our qualifying pace.” Mostert heads into the New Zealand round sitting 20th in the championship, and with three top ten finishes to his name after 9 races.
12 >> Doric Racer >> Clipsal 500 2014 Australian Touring Car legend John Bowe is back to his old tricks. In the two rounds of the Touring Car Masters series this year, Bowe has accrued two pole positions, five podium places, one race win, as well as two lap records. Piloting his 1969 Ford Mustang, Nicknamed ‘Mustang Sally’, Bowe has moved early to stamp his authority on the 2014 championship and reignited the long-standing rivalry with fellow TCM front-runner Jim Richards. At the last round at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria, the Doric Ambassador put on a dominant performance early on, breaking his own lap record by half a second, before collecting his first race win for the season over
two seconds clear of his closest rival. He set the fastest lap in all three races at Winton and tied for the round win. Unfortunately it’s a long wait for Bowe and his followers until the next round of the series, scheduled for 20-22 June at Darwin’s Hidden Valley circuit. Last year’s round at the Top End was a good one for Bowe, who took a clean sweep of all three races at the track. “We’ve had a great start to the year and I can’t wait to get to Darwin to keep the momentum going.” “We were very fast there last year, so hopefully we can have some more success!”

Moving into its seventh year of involvement with motor racing, Doric threw its support behind a number of stars in different racing categories heading into 2010. Tim Slade joined the 2010 Doric Ambassadors under Wilson Security Racing colours in the V8 Supercar Championship. Competing in just his second full time season in the series, Slade impressed the motorsport community. The rookie scored a bunch of top ten finishes, including a best at Phillip Island, driving alongside Jack Perkins for the endurance race. Also flying under the Doric banner, was Australian Touring Car legend John Bowe. 2010 marked the debut of his beloved 1969 Ford Mustang, nicknamed “Sally”. Powered by a big 351 Windsor V8 engine, the car was an instant hit, and fast too, which explains why
Bowe still races Sally today! Mid-way through the year, Doric also announced of the newest member of the Doric Racing family- V8 Supercar Development Series sensation James Mof¬fat. Moffat was driving for Ford Rising Star Racing, with car preparation under-taken by Ford Performance Racing. He finished third in the series after collecting 10 podium finishes throughout the year, and would graduate to the main game V8 Supercar Championship the following season with Dick Johnson Racing. The final piece of the 2010 Doric Racing program was the Motologic Ducati squad competing in the Australian Superbike Championship. Jamie Stauffer and Jordan Burgess represented the team, picking up a host of podium places over the season.

The 2014 season is shaping up to be a blinder. There have been six race winners, five pole winners, and ten men who have had the privilege to stand on the podium so far this year. It’s easy to forget we’re only three rounds into the championship, because already it looks like it is going to be one of the most hotly contested titles in history. Over the nine races so far, we’ve seen surprise results pop up all over the field, from Scott McLaughlin’s podium on debut for Volvo at Adelaide, to Lee Holdsworth’s momentous win for Erebus Motorsport at Winton. With the top ten in the championship separated by a little under 300 points, results change the table quickly, but consistency is paying dividends for the leaders so far. Craig Lowndes leads the standings heading into Pukekohe, followed closely by Ford Performance Racing’s Mark Winterbottom and Brad Jones Racing’s Fabian Coutlhard, who both have just one win each to the name in 2014. Winterbottom’s win at Winton and strong consistency will make him a strong favourite at New Zealand, while a turn in form further back in the field could see Erebus and Will Davison make K HE PAaRbig impact on Kiwi soil. RACER REWIND << WE LOOK BACK AT THE 2013 V8 SUPERCAR RETURN TO PUKEKOHE
www.doric.com.au >> facebook.com/doricracing >> twitter.com/doricracing >> 25
The third round of the 2013 V8 Supercar Championship was one of the most dramafilled events of the season. Four races brought four different winners at Pukekohe and threw the championship fight wide open. Records were smashed, as Scott McLaughlin became the youngest person to win a V8 Supercar race in the first Pukekohe race. But the real drama was yet to unfold. Following a dominant stint from Red Bull Racing in the first two rounds, Ford Performance Racing hit back in New Zealand, with Will Davison taking he and Ford’s first win for the season in a storming drive over Shane van Gisbergen and Fabian Coulthard. With his win, Will took the lead in the
Championship, then added a strong second, fifth and seventh to his string of consistent performances to walk away from New Zealand with a new found confidence. Meanwhile Mark Winterbottom stoked the rivalry between FPR and Red Bull with a controversial move on Jamie Whincup in the second race at Pukekohe. Whincup returned fire in the following race, barging past Frosty at the hairpin and making contact. Frustratingly, the Ford driver was forced to pit with steering damage in the accident, while Whincup was later given a 15-point penalty for the provocative clash. The reaction from both sides of the battle sparked a war that waged for the rest of the year.
