It’s been a whirlwind yeah for Doric Ambassador Will Davison. Joining V8 Supercar outfit Erebus Motorsport for the start of the 2014 season, Davison has endured a rollercoaster season thus far. Breaking through for his first podium in the E63 Mercedes Benz at Townsville, Will has proven the new AMG Supercar is full of promise. With strong pace over the last few rounds, Davison has often been found at the top of practice timesheets, however reliability has hurt the team’s overall results. Sunday’s race at the Gold Coast saw Davison qualify a promising fifth fastest, but brake issues saw hope of a solid result fade away. “I’m gutted for everyone at Erebus,” said Will. “They have all worked so hard and deserved some reward this weekend. I can’t thank them enough and I know our time will come.” “Alex did a great job through all three enduros, but we just weren’t able to show it. It was a lot of fun driving with him. “We’ve got two more to go this year, and I’m really determined to put a great weekend together.” “It’s difficult when it feels like things are coming together and then something goes wrong, but sometimes frustration is the best kind of motivation”

The Ford Performance Racing star Mark WInterbotom is clinging onto his Championship hopes heading into the penultimate round at Phillip Island this week. Sitting 402 points shy of the points leader, Winterbottom is a long shot at the title, but isn’t giving up hope. After a storming start to the year, Winterbottom has hit a difficult patch in recent rounds, his last podium finish being recorded back in June. But as the final races approach, Winterbottom has not given up hope that his rivals might stumble under pressure. “We’re getting down to the pointy end of the season now and the pressure is on to get the points for the Championship. I’m second but still sitting a fair way behind in the points,” said Winterbottom. The last round at the Gold Coast did not go to plan for the #5 car, with a controversial stewards call and a lack of form playing havoc with the overall result. “We just didn’t have the speed. There is no hiding behind it,” he said” “We have to dig deep and regain our speed as we were too far off this weekend.” Winterbottom has a good record at the Phillip Island track, with three top ten finishes in 2013, including a podium. He has taken two victories at the Victorian track in the past and started from pole position twice.

CHAZ MOSTERT & PAUL MORRIS, BATHURST CHAMPS FOR 2014>>

Chaz Mostert has well and truly made his mark on the V8 Supercar Championship this year. It’s hard to believe the 22-year-old burst onto the main game scene just mid-way through last year. Since his debut at Barbagallo last May, Mostert has taken 10 podium finishes including three race wins and has stormed into the record books with a momentous win at the Bathurst 1000. Mostert’s tenacious drive from last to first at Mount Panorama last month was the icing on the cake of what is being widely recognised as one of the greatest ever Bathurst 1000 races. With a Bathurst win under his belt, it is little surprise the young gun is full of confidence heading into the final two rounds of the season. “It hasn’t quite sunk in yet to be honest,” said Mostert.
“It’s one of those things that it’s so unbelievable that it’s going to take some time to actually accept the fact that we did win the Bathurst 1000, and on only my second attempt. “I think our expectation for the race was to try and get into the top 10 and finish on the lead lap “The way it panned out we ended up a bit further up the front than what we thought we would and I had no expectations to win the race or anything like that, it was out of control.” But Mostert still has another box to tick in 2014. “I just want to head home now, have some time off, relive all the big moments of the last few weeks which have been a blur. I’ll freshen up before Phillip Island and I want that fifth in the points.”
12 >> Doric Racer >> Phillip Island 2014 Touring Car legend John Bowe is gearing up for the final round of the Touring Car Masters Championship this weekend at Phillip Island. Bowe led the championship for the entire 2014 season, accruing a horde of wins throughout the year, until the most recent round at Bathurst. Driving his famous 1969 Ford Mustang, Bowe has set the pace all year, but at a mixed round at Bathurst last month, Bowe’s Championship lead of 48 points toppled under pressure from Jim Richards. Bowe now sits just one point behind his fierce rival. The Doric Ambassador was off to a stellar start to the Bathurst weekend after scoring his sixth-straight TCM pole position with a recordshattering 2m19.1s lap time. He continued the streak with a dominant win in the opening race, setting a new race lap record early on with a 2m21.1035s. But an off-track excursion in the second race saw Bowe lose precious time and finish 8th. While the third race saw a delaminating tyre damage suspension and steering components in the Mustang. “Bathurst was a bit of a rollercoaster with those few dramas, but that’s behind us now,” said Bowe. “We’ll have our work cut out for us at Phillip Island. I’ve had a lot of fun this year but that competitive streak always comes through in the end. “Jim and I are close in the points, though he won’t be our only competition on track. There’s a bunch of drivers capable of winning so it will be tough, but I can’t wait to get out there.”

After moving to the V8 Supercar Championship with Paul Cruickshank Racing in 2006, Doric began its second year assault in 2007. Taking up a spot on the front and rear spoilers of the #111 BF Falcon, Doric was looking to expand on the results of the previous year with a new driver, ATCC and Bathurst Champion John Bowe. It would be Bowe’s final year racing fulltime in V8 Supercars. In March, the V8 veteran broke the record for most Championship round starts, notching his 213th event at the second round at Barbagallo, Western Australia. Bowe accrued 225 round starts by the end of the year, a record that stood until last year, when Russell Ingall surpassed his tally. 2007 was a difficult year for the squad, with limited success throughout the season. The team’s best result was 11th place at the Gold Coast, but retirements and a lack of momentum hurt the team’s overall results. Bowe teamed up with Jonathon Webb for the endurance races, taking 12th at the Sandown 500 and 14th at the Bathurst 1000.

With six V8 Supercar wins, 19 podiums and 55 top ten finishes between them this year, Doric Racers Mark Winterbottom, Chaz Mostert and Will Davison have a lot to be confident about this weekend. All three racers showed great promise at the last round at the Gold Coast, but were held back by mechanical gremlins. Spurred on by the disappointment, the three drivers will be looking to make amends this weekend at the penultimate round of the 2014 Championship, the Phillip Island 400. Jamie Whincup has a target on his back this weekend, heading into the round with a 402 point lead over the rest of the field. Doric’s Ford Performance Racing looks the best chance to topple the reigning champ, with Mark Winterbottom chasing down
Whincup in second place. Winterbottom has a solid Phillip Island record behind him, while his teammate Chaz Mostert has momentum on his side after his incredible Bathurst 1000 victory last month. Plenty of eyes will also be on the title fight in the Touring Car Masters Series at Phillip Island, with veteran racers John Bowe and Jim Richards going toe-totoe for the crown. While Bowe has had the outright speed over Richards for the entire season, he has fallen victim to his fair share of on-track dramas, now leading by just three points. The fast and flowing Phillip Island circuit demands perfection from drivers. With a top speed of 290km/h, the 4.4km track is one of the fastest on the calendar, so you can count on some thrills and spills this weekend.

RACER REWIND: REVIEWING THE PHILLIP ISLAND MEET FROM 12 MONTHS AGO >>
www.doric.com.au >> facebook.com/doricracing >> twitter.com/doricracing >> 25
It was a wet and wild weekend of racing last November for the Phillip Island 360. The penultimate round of the championship was all about the title fight, with the top three drivers separated by only a handful of points. Controversy reigned in the opening race with Mark Winterbottom and Craig Lowndes both suffering badly in an on-track incident between the pair. The rival teams flared, both blaming each other and sparking a war of words that waged over the weekend. The incident allowed Championship rival Jamie Whincup to sneak past both drivers to retake the championship lead. The race was also marred by a huge accident involving Holden Racing Team’s James Courtney
and Garry Rogers Motorsport’s Alex Premat. The dramatic crash saw footage of Premat pulling a wounded Courtney from the wreck broadcast all around the country. Triple Eight fought back again in Sunday’s races, with Lowndes winning the first race, and Whincup holding off a storming Mark Winterbottom in the next race to take second. Will Davison battled through a difficult weekend, scoring a best result of 6th in the final race on Sunday. The round results left Winterbottom in third place heading into the final round of the season at Sydney Olympic Park, 124 points shy of leader Whincup.
