Will Davison heads into the V8 Supercar Championship weekend at Queensland Raceway full of confidence after winning his second race of the year in Townsville earlier this month. The impressive victory has seen the Doric racer close the gap to Championship leader Jamie Whincup to 215 points, keeping Davison in title contention. “To win in Townsville meant a lot to me, to everyone at FPR as well as all the Ford fans and sponsors,” Will Davison said. “Our one-two finish in Saturday’s race is a testament to the effort of the whole team and it is the first for Pepsi Max, so we couldn’t be happier. “It was a promising weekend overall and
the car keeps improving, which is also a great sign for the rest of the year.” Davison has had success at Queensland Raceway in the past, recording a race win in 2009. The FPR driver is keen for another victory this weekend and knows his Ford Falcon has the speed to be competitive on the Ipswich track. “I am looking forward to returning to Queensland Raceway because it’s quite a unique circuit and always makes for an interesting weekend of racing. “This year’s Championship is extremely close and every point counts, so hopefully I can have another good performance this weekend.”

Mark Winterbottom’s impressive midseason revival continued in Townsville three weeks ago, for races 20 and 21 of the V8 Supercar Championship. The Doric driver recorded two top four results on the north Queensland street circuit, including a second place finish in the 200 kilometre race on Saturday. “We did a great job in Townsville and everything went as it should, especially when we were driving away from the field,” Mark Winterbottom said. “It was good to claw back some points and without the early season issues we would have been much higher on the Championship standings.”
8
Winterbottom has climbed 14 spots to fourth position on the V8 Supercar point’s table since the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide in March. The FPR driver is only 39 points behind the third placed driver and team mate Will Davison, as the V8 Supercar Championship heads to Queensland Raceway this weekend. “The last couple of events have given us a lot more hope and our chance at the title doesn’t quite look as unrealistic now. “I have had success at Queensland Raceway in the past with a couple of race wins in 2008, so I am looking for another strong performance this weekend.”

JB’s 2013 SCRAP BOOK John Bowe is looking to continue his winning momentum at Queensland Raceway this weekend for round four of the Touring Car Masters Series. The Doric ambassador recorded a pole position and three race victories in a dominant display during the last round at Hidden Valley in Darwin, in June. It was the second year in a row the defending champion has won all three races in the Top End. “It was a perfect weekend in Darwin, with pole and three out of three wins – it doesn’t get much better than that,” John Bowe said. “My car ‘Mustang Sally’ was great all weekend and our special tyre strategy helped us in race three. We also finished the weekend without a scratch on ‘Sally’, which is very important heading into the next round at Queensland Raceway this weekend.” The impressive performance in Darwin has seen Bowe increase his Series lead to 32 points over rival Jim Richards. Bowe will be looking for another big points haul at Queensland Raceway this weekend, as he tries to cement top position with just four rounds to go in the 2013 Series. “I really enjoy racing at Queensland Raceway and last year I won all three races on this track, so hopefully I can repeat that performance again!”

DETERMINATION AT QR
12
Doric Team Honda Racing Riders Jamie Stauffer and Josh Hook showed impressive determination at the third round of the Australian Superbike Championship at Queensland Raceway in Ipswich last month. Stauffer, who rode with severe pain after a recent injury to his pelvis, recorded two fifth place finishes in the weekend’s races. “It was a tough weekend for me and I did everything I could to ensure I didn’t waste the opportunity to gain more points for the Championship. My strength just wasn’t there this weekend because of my recent accident, however to come fifth in both races shows the strength of my Honda CBR1000RR,” Jamie Stauffer said. Team mate Hook claimed his first podium on a Superbike after crossing the line in second position in race two on the Queensland track. “It was fantastic to take my first podium in the Superbike class and overall I was really happy with my performance at Queensland Raceway. My lap times are improving and to be able to start from the front row in just our second event on the Superbike this year is great,” Josh Hook said. Hook has now moved into fourth position on the Championship standings while Jamie Stauffer is in fifth spot. The next two rounds of the Australian Superbike Championship will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park on August 1 to 4.

RACER REWIND
QLD RACEWAY 2012
22
The 2012 V8 Supercar Championship weekend at Queensland Raceway was another battle between Ford Performance Racing and Triple Eight Race Engineering. Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom were determined to beat rivals Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes on their home track, and continue their rise up the Championship standings. In Saturday’s race, Winterbottom’s good pace from his Ford Falcon helped him to record a second place finish, while team mate Davison slipped down the field to finish in sixth spot after a unique race strategy didn’t pay off. In Sunday’s race, Davison started from pole position however he couldn’t hold onto the lead and crossed the finish line in fourth spot. Winterbottom’s good weekend continued as he recorded another podium finish. Neither FPR driver could catch Craig Lowndes who dominated the 3.12 kilometre circuit, winning both of the weekend’s races. In the Touring Car Masters Series, Doric driver John Bowe dominated Queensland Raceway with three race wins. The impressive performance saw Bowe extend his Series lead to 83 points over his nearest rival, proving once again he was the driver to beat in 2012.
23
Known as the ‘Paperclip’, Queensland Raceway features six turns on a completely flat surface and provides plenty of passing opportunities for drivers. The 3.12 kilometre track has proven to be a good venue for Doric drivers in the past, with Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom both recording race wins. Given recent success in Townsville and good speed from their Ford Falcons, Davison and Winterbottom could prove hard to beat in this weekend. The Doric drivers will be determined to score another big points haul as they try and close the Championship gap to leader Jamie Whincup. The Doric racers will need to keep an eye out for local driver Craig Lowndes, who has dominated Queensland Raceway in recent years, winning the last five races on this track. In the Touring Car Masters Series John Bowe is the driver to beat in 2013, and this weekend at Queensland Raceway will be no different as he aims for his fourth race win in a row. Bowe won all three races on the Ipswich circuit last year and is determined to repeat that performance this weekend.
