About Maids There does seem to be some concern on the

entry of maids into The Tangtin Club. The Members of this privately-run Club have

instructed management through the General Committee and through the Rule Book that

domestic helpers are not allowed within the Club premises.

In light of the current newspaper articles, management will not be relaxing this order in any shape or form unless advised otherwise. Senior Staff Recruitment

Shortly we will have a senior human resources manager in our team along with an events manager.

Both posts are essential to enable us to move

forward in this new challenging era for the Club. We have to help our staff to move into the more demanding and professional workplace and at the same time provide the entertainment and enjoyment that the members so richly deserve. These two new staff will take us all to another level of excellence.

Turkish Evening Saturday 18 September 2004 After an absence of almost two years, The Tanglin Club once again welcomed back that delightful belly dancer Hale Caklr from Istanbul for a pulsating one-night performance at the Churchill Room. It was a full house, naturally, with about equal numbers of men and women, some of whom, I suspect, could be wanting to learn the finer points of this exotic art. And indeed, a gallant few took to the dance floor for some personal "coaching" from the dance professional. hear some members have been taking belly dance lessons In recent weeks, and we may be In for a rare treat at the Club's big annual "Arabian Nights" theme party on Saturday 16 October.

But coming back to the wonderful Turkish Evening, I chanced to have a quick interview with Hale (pronounced haMeh), who told me she has performed in many cities in her native Turkey as well as around the world. For one thing, she loves to travel, and has worked as an air stewardess prior to dancing professionally. Another reason Is she simply loves

to dance. Surprisingly, she revealed that her dancing skills were largely self-taught, for some two years.

And what does she do when she's not busy travelling or dancing, I asked curiously. Well, this enterprising, beautiful young lady is also a fashion designer and runs her own fashion boutique. We quickly ran out of time, and will have to keep the remaining questions for another chat another time. Thanks, Hale, for an entertaining evening; not forgetting our chef and his F&B team for the fine food, drinks and other Turkish delights. K C Yuen

You Win Some And You Lose Some Annual Pot Games 2004 The bad news is that we lost the Annual Pot Games to

the see by two miserable points!! It is probably difficult for a non-balut-playing person to understand the mathematical significance of such a narrow defeat. Each side had a total of 20 players playing eight games with each player throwing a maximum of 21 throws per game or a total of 3360 throws. The maximum game score in Balut is 183(mathematically

^^inable). The Singapore ericket eiub won with an average game score of 75,85 against The Tanglln Club 75,84.

Even more fustrating was that we were basically ahead all the time albeit with a diminishing lead and the last score sheet submitted actually turned the tables! Michelle and Daniel from the Sports & Recreation Dept operated the computerized scoring admirably and Calllsta Wong of F&B sat in for one game awaiting a late-arriving TC player and also ensured the players were suitably lubricated as and when required!
