Coming Your Way On September 24! what you might ask, is Old Time Music Hail? Even many young British expatriates may not have any idea as it is an era long passed, although some of the more famous songs are still sung in a few British pubs. Old Time Music Hall is always an enjoyable experience for young and old alike as it a light hearted form of entertainment set in a [)ub environ ment with plenty of beer and wine and wholesome food. There are al
ways songs that you can join in with and many that you may know without realizing that they were written in the genre's heyday. Entertain ers deliver these songs with exuberance - some romantic or humorous, some sentimental or patriotic, particularly those from between the two World Wars. Many juxtapose comedy and pathos arul portray the lives of the working class created by Great Britain's Industrial Revolution. Comic acts have you bursting with laughter and somelime.s a thrilling melodrama is included in the program. The whole ensemble is con
nected together by a Master of Ceremonies with a gavel and the use of lengthy definition defying words. This eloquent chairman guides you through a scintillating evening of mellifluous melodies and other spe cialty acts and will no doubt announce at the beginning that the enter tainment has been brought to you at enoooooooormuus expense (sic.)! Music Hall in London had its origins in entertainment provided in the new style saloon bars of public houses during the 1 UJOs. The saloon was a room where for an admission fee or a greater price at the bar, singing, dancing, drama or comedy was performed. The most famous London saloon of the early days was the Grecian Saloon, established in 1825, at
The Eagle. Later known as the Grecian Theatre it is still famous because of an English nursery rhyme, with the somewhat mysterious lyrics:
Up And Down The City Road
• In And Out The Eagle • That's The Way The Money Goes • Pop Goes The Weasel. By 1865 there were thirty-two music halls in London seating between 500 to 5000 people plus an unknown, but large, number of smaller venues. In 1878 numbers peaked, with seventy-eight large music halls in the metropolis and 300 smaller venues. Thereafter numbers declined due to stricter licensing restriaions and because of commercial competi tion between popular large suburban halls and the smaller venues, which put the latter out of business.
The acceptance of Music Hail as a legitimate cultural form was estab lished by the first Royal Variety Performance before King George V dur ing 1912 at the Palace Theatre. However, consistent with this new re spectability the best-known Music Hall entertainer of the time, Marie Lloyd, who made her debut at the age of 14 in 1884 at the Grecian Theatre was not invited, being deemed too 'saucy' for presentation to the monarchy.
World War I was probably the peak of Music Hall popularity. The artists and composers threw themselves into rallying public support and enthu siasm for the war effort. Patriotic music hall compositions like Keep the Home Fires Burning, Pack up Your Troubles and It's a Long Way to Tipperary, were sung by music hall audiences, and sometimes by soldiers in the trenches
Music Hall continued be^vee^ the Wars, but no longer as the single dominant form of popular entertainment in Britain. The improvement of cinema, the development of radio, and the cheapening of the gramo phone damaged its popularity greatly. It now had to compete with jazz, swing and Big Band dance music. Licensing restrictions also changed its character. Even so, the music hall gave rise to such major stars as George Formby, Gracie Fields, Max Miller, and Flanagan and Allen during this period. After World War II, competition from television and other mu sical idioms, including Rock and Roll, caused the slow de mise of the British music halls. Moss Empires, the largest British Music Hall chain, closed the majority of its the atres in 1961), closely followed by tiie death of Music Hall stalwart Max Miller in 1963, prompting one con temporary to write that: "Music halls...died this after noon when they buried Max Miller". Stage and film musicals, however, continued to be influenced by the Music Hall genre such as: Oliver!, Dr. Dolittic, and My Fair Lady. The BBC series The Good Old
Days, which ran for thirty years until 1963, recreated the music hall for the modern audience.

Clay therapy Putting clay on your face and body is not just folkloric art; even today's medical scientists are recognising the benefits of clay. The use of clay goes back to prehistoric times, with the
first recorded use of medicinal clay being traced to Mes opotamia, or in the area of what is now known as Iran.
In those times, the people would treat external wounds with clay. The absorbing and purifying powers of clay meant that it dried up wet sores faster and kept bacteria at bay, promoting healing more effectively. Clay is also known to have been consumed internally as a remedy for nausea - but don't try that at home. In the modern world today, clay is valued by naturopathsand in alternative healing treatments for its natural purifying properties. Clay is also used in spa therapy, again as a powerful purifier. Clay retains heat, and a clay mask on the face or body has the ability to boost blood circulation and draw toxins out of the skin. It's simple to use - apply, wait for a few minutes, remove and notice the marked difference.
Originating from the earth, clays are rich in minerals and nutrients. Clays cannot be manufactured but natural clays can be tapped and treated to check for consistency
t
of C|uality and for safe use. Rest assured that the clay available at pharmacies has been tested and declared safe, with no side-effects - unless your skin is super sen sitive.
From a medical point of view, due to its very strong "negative" ionic charge and mineral composition, good clay has the ability to overpower a weaker "positive"
virus. Surrounded by clay, the virus is disabled and inca pable of multiplying. Because the clay suppresses the virus, cutting it off from any source of nutrition, the virus either dies or is expelled by the body naturally. Clay's antibacterial properties have recently been attrib uted to the healing of the Buruli ulcer, that terrible "flesh-eating" infection. The clays purported to do this are specifically the green clays found in the coastal areas of France.
Without going too much into the science of clay, as the information tends to be technical and beyond the un derstanding of most people, we still can appreciate the healing powers of clay. That it contains potent minerals and anti-bacterial elements is just one aspect of this wondrous "mud"; that it feels good on the skin, is puri fying and detoxifying, and leaves the skin wonderfully cleansed and refreshed is enough for us. Task Force Black: The Explosive True Story of the SAS and the Secret War in Iraq by Mark Urban Written by a highly respected foreign affairs journalist who cov ered the Iraq campaign from start to finish, Task Force Black re veals not only the intensity of the secret fight that turned the tide in Baghdad, but the rivalries and personal battles that had to be overcome along the way. Mark Urban details the extraordinary milestones, politics, and imagination needed to succeed, as well as describing the deeds of soldiers whose names must remain secret. Incisive, dramatic and exceptionally revealing, the war in Iraq cannot be understood without this book.

The Imaglnarium of Doctor Parnassus starring Heath Ledger and Johnny Depp Set in the present day, this fantastical morality tale follows the traveling show of the mysterious Dr. Parnassus - a man who once won a bet with the Devil himself, and possesses the unique abil ity to guide the imagination of others. Many centuries ago. Dr. Parnassus won immortality in a bet that found the malevolent Mr. Nick coming up short. While few would be foolish enough to try their luck against the powers of darkness a second time. Dr. Parnassus did precisely that, this time trading his mortality for youth on the understanding that his firstborn would become the property of Mr. Nick when the child reaches his or her 16th birthday.

What is Tennis Elbow?
Tendons attach muscles to bones. The elbow has an up per arm bone (humerus) and two bones in the forearm (ulna and radius). Bony bulges on the inside and outside of the elbow are the epicondyle part of the upper bone. Tendons of forearm muscles attach to these bulges. Inflammation (swelling, redness) of the tendons on the outside of the elbow (with the palm facing forward) has the medical name lateral epicondylitis. The common name is tennis elbow because the problem often results from playing tennis. It usually affects the dominant arm (right - handed people have pain in the right arm), but it

By stimulating a strong sensation of "qi", channels and acLipoints, it provides an effective in preventing and cur ing diseases, strengthening the inner vital energy, avoiding premature aging, and extending life. Incredible Palau Recently, a couple of divers from the Tanglln Club Scuba Section made a trip to Palau on the llveaboard, Ocean Hunter III.
Palau is a chain of idyllic tropical islands, lo cated in westernmost Micronesia, Pacific
Ocean. It is well known for its high current dives and at the same time is a good all rounder in offering schools offish, abundance of large pelagic animals, war time wrecks and caves. The water is gin clear and walls are en crusted with dazzling and colorful corals. It can be considered as one of the top ten div ing destinations on this earth and ranks highly on the "to be visited" list of many divers.
Turtle and Remoras in flight.
The signature dive is possibly the world's most famous fast current adrenaline dive-
Blue Corner. Here, a rock promontory juts
out into the deep water where fast upwelling currents surge across the reef, carrying nutri ents that attract schools of fish. Completing the food chain are grey reef sharks, which are probably the most plentiful sharks in Palauan waters. The best way to observe this parade of predators is to use a reef hook to secure yourself to some dead coral. Then you par tially inflate your BC and hang there like a kite, enjoying the show of parading sharks. Napoleon Wrasses, schools of Trevallies, Blue Triggers and Pyramid fish.
