Wishing you a very warm welcome to Yorkshire’s Christmas Spectacular! It seems even more special this year to be sitting in a theatre with family and friends to watch live performances once more. Our festive favourite once again features a very talented team, from budding theatre stars to professional actors and actresses. Our younger performers always enjoy learning from our older, more experienced cast members, and we are incredibly lucky to have been able to work with such a lovely cast who make the atmosphere at rehearsals so brilliant. We pride ourselves on giving all performers the opportunity to learn and train under expert guidance, and I’d like to extend my thanks to our Musical Director, Rob, for his exceptionally diligent, creative, and most of all patient, approach to all rehearsals (elf training isn’t all glitz and glamour!) Christmas is a great time to reflect on the last few months, and it’s fair to say that the past two years have been a challenge for theatre groups everywhere. Cancelling our productions of Chicago, A Night at the Musicals, a Christmas Spectacular and Sunshine on Leith was heartbreaking, both mentally and physically. We’ve hung on financially thanks to the incredible generosity of our audience members who saved their tickets or donated the cost. We can’t thank you enough for your support, and we hope this performance is worth the wait! My thanks must also be extended to Jamie and team at the Town Hall for their ongoing support towards Futurist Theatre Productions. We have lots of things up our sleeves for 2022, so keep your eyes peeled for our updates. But for now - sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

Elf Mission In order to graduate as fully qualified elves in time for this year’s Christmas Spectacular, our Junior Team were given a very special mission- to spread festive cheer for all to hear! They were each given some money from us to spend on trying to help people who might not get much to smile about this Christmas feel a little bit more joy. From donating to baby and food banks, to organising Christmas boxes for disadvantaged children, women’s refuges and homeless charities, we’re sure you’ll agree that they have done an amazing job! Well done elves- we’re super proud of you. To say a little thank you, our Junior Team are now the proud adoptive parents (yes all 14 of them!) of a donkey!
Catherine Moglia
Director and Choreographer Catherine is thrilled to be back directing her fourth Christmas Spectacular! With a background predominately in dance, Catherine began dancing locally before training extensively with Northern Ballet under Yoko Ichino. She has been privileged to direct and choreograph various stage shows, including Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar and Chicago. Her favourite Christmas film is the Grinch, and she hopes that this year’s Spectacular will deliver you lots of festive sparkle and spirit!
Robert Sanders Musical Director Robert is delighted to be musically directing the Yorkshire Christmas Spectacular for the second time! Robert is a pianist, composer and musical director based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. After graduating from Leeds Conservatoire in 2012 with a degree in Music, he went on to work for The Walt Disney Company as a pianist onboard their luxury cruise liners. Sailing around the world, he also won their ‘Musician of the Year Award’ in 2018. Outside of his work with Futurist, Robert is the proud musical director of ‘LIDOS’ and ‘Bite my Thumb’ theatre companies. More recently, he musically directed ‘The Last Five Years’ and ‘Songs for a New World’ on behalf of ‘Leeds Civic Arts Network’ as a part of their lockdown theatre festival.In September he was proud to have his original musical ‘Plague’ premiered in Leeds, and is delighted to say that the show will be heading to the ‘Edinburgh Fringe Festival’ in August 2022. He is also the musical director of Magic Voices Choir, Planet Choir and Leeds Musical Theatre Choir, as well as teaching for ‘Rocksteady Music School’ and ‘Stagecoach Performing Arts School’ in Roundhay.

TRAINING GRANTS Futurist are delighted to have launched our own training grant scheme. Open to previous cast members, the aim is to help the talented people you see in our productions to take the next step in their training or musical theatre careers. We provide financial assistance for things such as auditions, uniforms and fees, as well as practical advice and support on applications, repertoire and audition preparation. In the last few months we have assisted Charlie, Jadye and Maddie as they have started their new adventures at Performers College, ArtsEd and Leeds Conservatoire. We’re really proud of them, and know they will fly the Futurist flag high in whatever they do next. We can’t wait to see what their future holds for them!
