Autumn / Winter 2019
Welcome to Yeadon Town Hall… Our Spring / Summer season has been busy to say the least, and we’re looking forward to a full programme of events ahead of us as we approach the festive season and a brand New Year! Yeadon Town Hall CIC has enjoyed a fantastic first few months managing the beautiful Town Hall, and restoration work has already begun. Many of you will have seen our newly redecorated Town Hall Tavern and this summer we’ll be decorating the main auditorium as well as some of the space in the main entrance. Leeds City Council has submitted planning applications for major works including the much awaited repair of the clock tower! We hope to have this fixed and ticking away nicely by the end of the year so the whole town can countdown to 2020 together. As well as welcoming tribute acts, bands and our much loved amateur theatre companies to the Town Hall this year, we’ve also been delighted to showcase world premieres including The Carole King Songbook and Mr Montgomery’s Circus Spectacular (which we produced in association with the fantastic Codswallop CIC team). We’ve also got Queen, Take That and ABBA tributes lined up to entertain you this season, as well as incredible shows from veteran performers The Three Degrees and Perry Grant. Of course, it wouldn’t be the festive season at Yeadon without Futurist Theatre Production’s Christmas Spectacular followed by Yeadon Charities’ pantomime Cinderella. We hope you’ll join us to see some of our fantastic 2019 shows and continue to support us into next year and beyond. On behalf of myself and the team here at Yeadon Town Hall I’d like to extend thanks to everyone who has bought tickets to our shows, volunteered their time and expertise, purchased a plaque for our Wall of Fame and passed on their kind words. We’ll make sure 2020 delivers another fantastic year of entertainment for our community.

The Future of Yeadon Town Hall When Yeadon Town Hall CIC took over management of the building from Leeds City Council, the group pledged to carry out important restoration work that would preserve the building and ensure it remained fully functional for many years to come.
Take a look at our transformation Our brand new Town Hall Tavern provides the perfect area to relax and enjoy a drink before a show or during an interval. There are also plenty of Town Hall Tavern events happening, including regular quiz nights and live music. The stained glass windows in the bar, which have been hidden for over 50 years, let natural light into the area providing a fresh and airy feel. Our Main Auditorium has also been repainted to complement the building’s historical architecture. We have chosen a traditional colour palette that’s in keeping with the Town Hall’s theatricality! We’re going to be replacing the curtains in the main hall in the near future, too. We have also started repainting the main entrance hall and corridors, as well as the Airedale Room. At the start of August we hosted a major DIY SOS-style clean up and redecoration project so many of our front of house areas and backstage rooms are at least partly complete for the start of our Autumn / Winter season.
Work in the works Leeds City Council have agreed to complete major external and internal restoration work, including repairs to the roof, stained glass windows, mosaic floor and car park cobbles. The Council will also help to improve the internal lighting and fire alarm system. The Town Hall team are also working to improve the staging area by removing the choir risers and increasing the stage depth, fitting new stage rigging equipment and new stage floor.

Return of the Clock Tower We’re very much looking forward to the clock being repaired, and the clock faces replaced. Leeds City Council are arranging this work and we expect the clock to be telling the right time again by the end of the year. There’ll no doubt be a clock tower unveiling or celebration nearer the time, so keep an eye on our social media feeds for more information.
Restoration 2020 Next year we’ll be working on large projects, such as installing new kitchen and bathroom facilities. With support from the local community, businesses and corporate sponsors we aim to be able to complete all internal refurbishment by the end of next year. We also hope to create a new Box Office area that will be open during the day, and we’re always on the lookout for volunteers to help out on our reception desk when they can!
Bigger plans We know that accessibility needs to be improved, and our future plans involve better disabled access and general accessibility throughout the building. The process of applying for substantial funding is a long and complex one, but the team are determined to take on the challenge and make this happen - so watch this space.

Support our restoration Yeadon Town Hall CIC is supported by Key Fund, a social enterprise investment company. The CIC are particularly grateful for the significant contribution from The Graham and Diane Smith Charitable Trust. Leeds City Council Heritage Fund has also awarded us over £750,000 towards the Town Hall’s refurbishment work. However, there is still a long way to go to fully fund the regeneration of the community landmark. Can you help us to raise the funds we need to restore Yeadon Town Hall?
Join the Wall of Fame The Wall of Fame is situated in our Town Hall Tavern, a beautiful display of memories, dedications and celebrations. Now’s your chance to be part of it! You can choose any name and message to go on your plaque, which will be added to our Wall of Fame. Corporate plaques are also available for businesses and organisations wanting to support the town’s new social enterprise. Funds raised from the Wall of Fame will be used to significantly improve the facility for the local and wider community. We have already raised over £7,500 - would you like to join our Wall of Fame?
