Spring / Summer 2019

Welcome to Yeadon Town Hall… We hope you are looking forward to joining us for the next chapter of Yeadon Town Hall’s exciting new journey. In April 2019, Yeadon Town Hall CIC took over the stunning arts venue from the council, promising to give our town’s landmark building a new lease of life. And what a great time we’re having so far! This Spring / Summer season we are welcoming a number of shows and events to the Town Hall while we continue our ongoing refurbishment of the building. Whether you’re a musical fanatic, on the look-out for a family-friendly event or fancy a great night out and a belting sing-along, our variety of shows and events include something for everyone. We are developing an array of original shows this season. First up we have The Carole King Songbook in June, premiering here at Yeadon Town Hall before beginning its countrywide tour. Must-see productions also include Futurist Theatre Productions’ A Night at the Musicals in July and Mr Montgomery’s Circus Spectacular beginning in August, developed in collaboration with Codswallop CIC. We have some of the UK’s best tribute artists visiting us this season, from Sounds of the 60s and Total 80s - A Celebration of a Generation! celebrating the very best music of each era to Bye Bye Baby, the Frankie Valli tribute act. We’re also welcoming productions from the town’s favourite amateur dramatic theatre societies. BrassNeck Theatre return to the Town Hall in May with Sunset Boulevard, the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic. The Town Hall refurbishments are ongoing, and we have big plans for the future of our building. When you visit us, we hope you’ll notice each stage of our improvement and support us in making our community building the best it can be. Myself and the team, including our gorgeous new puppy Wilma (aka our Town Hall mascot), look forward to welcoming you all to Yeadon Town Hall.

Reimagining Yeadon Town Hall When Yeadon Town Hall CIC took over the building, it pledged to transform the Town Hall by the end of 2020. Exciting restoration work of Yeadon’s landmark building has now begun, so you can look forward to seeing the venue change and improve over the next few years.

Highlighting heritage The work will involve revealing the original architectural features and refreshing the building’s exterior, including carrying out major repairs to the roof. The stained glass features will also be refurbished and the iconic clock face and clock tower will be restored.

Refurbishing the interiors From the front of house area to rooms and facilities backstage, we aim to bring Yeadon Town Hall up to stylish professional standard. The kitchen and bathrooms will be completely refurbished and the curtains and floor throughout the building will be replaced where needed.

Before

After

Renewing key areas We have completely redesigned the bar layout, providing more space for audiences to enjoy a drink before or after a show. We have created a bar full of character by removing the 1950s ceiling in the bar area, revealing the original double height Victorian ceilings and stained glass windows that have been hidden for over 50 years. We’re also creating a new accessible reception desk and Box Office area, planned to be open during the day and before our events so it will be much easier to ask questions and buy or collect tickets.

It’s showtime The main stage will benefit from new curtains, stage floor, stage rigging equipment and improved decoration throughout the hall. We also hope to increase the stage depth by a further three metres by removing the choir risers at the back of the stage.

Improving access We’re continually improving access to the building, implementing better disabled access and making the venue safer for all who visit. Yeadon Town Hall will continue to be as fully functional as possible and available to our community throughout the restoration project. With the help of the local community and our strategic partners, we hope to complete restoration by the end of 2020.

Support our restoration We are fortunate to be supported by Key Fund, a social enterprise investment company, and Leeds City Council Heritage Fund, that have awarded us £750,000 towards the Town Hall’s refurbishment work. However, there is still a long way to go to fully fund the regeneration of the community landmark. We’re looking to raise a further £100,000 - can you help?

Join the Wall of Fame Our Wall of Fame will take pride of place in the newly refurbished Town Hall Tavern - and now’s your chance to have your name up in lights. Along with your name, you can add a short message (depending on the size of your plaque). It’s an ideal dedication or gift idea, and a great way to celebrate a key milestone or inspirational friend. Corporate plaques are also available for businesses and organisations to purchase - showcasing support of the town’s new social enterprise. Funds raised from the Wall of Fame will be used to significantly improve the facility for the local and wider community.
