stand out at Prom ...... When a high schooler hears such a term .... several distinct items come to mind . For guys, the idea of asking a date out to Prom in a cool way is of utmost importance. The method of getting a date to Prom is almost as important as the clothes worn to the event. For girls, the Prom brings the joy of being asked to accompany another person; and of course the many varieties of dresses that must be chosen from, in order to find the perfect one. The point is, if you ask any highschooler what specifically makes high school memorable; the vast majority are going to respond in one word : "Prom". The 2007-2008 school year was a year laden with moments to remember. Prom, was a fine example of one the year's heralding moments. Students who attended Prom, found themselves immersed in a South-Beach Club like atmosphere; complete with custom drinks, a D.J, and

even light-up martini glasses. Refrehments included the custom "Maroon Splash" as well as an assortment of chocolate covered strawberries and cheesecake. A Chinese canvas and lanterns kept the scene chill, and serene wall of a South beach Sunset topped it all off. Needless to say; the Prom was a complet success. However any high schooler knows that their is more to Prom than the dance itself.. .. Post Prom is just as important as Prom itself. As usual, post Prom took place at CRCE, complete with Sumo wrestling, Rockband, Big screen T.V.'s and a Mechanical Bull. However, the traditional entertainment was supplied- such as an obstacle course and Jousting, Basketball courts, Volley ball, Racquet Ball and Badminton . Once again the Central Students and Faculty had pulled it off; Prom was perfect.

stand up for your High School takes up a long four years. Ironically, the entirety of a student's scholastic career comes to a close with a single moment of representation among peers. High School graduation is the single event that makes all the years of hard work worth their while. The names get called, the speeches made and the participants are recognized . Each grad class is different, every one has their class clown; most popular, most studious and valedictorian . However, one theme binds all grad classes together. That is the feeling of pride and relief that swells among the students and their families as they walk across the stage to receive their diplomas. Teachers and administrators line

r~l*IJIIf/M up to shake the hands of the hopefully long line of graduates. Memories are honored, recognized and permanently made for all participants. More than anything; the simple truth that with graduation; a student becomes an alumnus. With this single step out of their comfort zones; a world of opportunities are revealed. But then again; isn't that all we look for during our years at school? We are always in pursuit of a better future .

After a long, tedious, and difficult academic year, Summertime is a time to relax and kick back from all the chaos of the school year. Most students use summer as a time to go on a relaxing getaway with their family, or a group of friends. Others spend their time at the side of the swimming pool getting tan and hanging out with their friends. Many get jobs; because honestly, what's better than making some money over the summer?

For many High school students Halloween is a time to show who you really are. During halloween the old ideal of Nno harm--no fouiN comes into play. From the ever so popular Play-boy bunny; to the suprisingly funny giant bannana costume, halloween is simple straight forward fun! From house parties to the college parties (that none of us know about ..... right??) halloween is filled with all the ingredients for innocent fun : Imagination, free time, and the indespesible amounts of sugar that fuel the night's activities. In addition to fun with friends; halloween is a chance to bring family closer together.

Central students know how to dance!

Vice- Versa is the one dance of the school year in which the guys are free from the burden of figuring out cool new ways of asking girls to accompany them to a dance. However, the girls aren't so lucky! The pressure is always on to be original, and the girls always amaze Just as every dance, their are the dresses to buy; predance meals to arrange and post-dance parties to attend . 2009-2010 was host to HCandy-landH; a truley sweet theme! Attendees were greeted by Candy stuck on the walls and banners of different colors. stand up and After a long, relaxing summer, students were eager to be a part of the first dance of the 20082009 school year! Students flocked to Central the evening of the dance ready to get down at their favorite high school. Despite the heat the back to school dance is known for, fun was had by all in the fabulous west gym,

however students realized they could easily keep cool by tossing cups of water in the air! Where the event was held from seven to nine in the evening; giving students just enough time to dance to their hearts' content on the newly polished wooden floor. When one thinks about high school, generally s several important things come to mind. Many ti it's the knowledge gained through the course of the four years we as students share together. However, honestly-- who does not find the friendships gained in these busy fun packed years to be one of the great values; and characteristics of high school? Friends are there to talk to, hang with when you have nothing to do; and of course, who else do you have to depend on when you need the last few problems of last night's math homework? The teacher probably won't be too happy to help! High school is truly the test of friends. It can, at times be very rough, and at times like these,

everyone needs a friend. On this page you will find the very best of friends . Some of these friends were friends before high school, some became close throughout their years at Central. The point is this; those found on this page are the best of friends!

stand up for yourtlllllljl Here at Champaign Central we are very honored to have so many siblings. Although some of them do not think that it is a benefit to have family members at their school, they truly have a substantial advantage. When younger siblings first walk into the doors at Champaign Central High School everyone knows who you are from your older sibling, or siblings. In addition, as siblings, you know that you will always have someone to talk to

during the school day. Whether you hav classes, school activities, or walk home together. Most importantly, you know tha you will always have someone to share the drama with! So; without further delay, o unnecessary explanation, take a look a some of these siblings!

Stand out at Whether some want to admit it or not, money makes the world go 'round . So how do Central Students manage to get their hands on the green stuff? Some have seasonal jobs; others work all year .... and some just find themselves doing the occasional odd jobs. However one thing is certain, Central students need money, and we get it! From the various businesses around Champaign- Urbana, to the franchises that inhabit the malls, Central students are everywhere. Many students work at the pools over the summer as hfegaurds, swim instructors. Students can also be found rn various restaraunts such as Kafe-K and Custard Cup. Many students work at Savoy-16 and various fast food joints. Believe it or not, some

students even run their own businesses. These businesses, although small, prove the versatility of the average Central Student. From lawn mowing businesses, to computer based businesses these students get a fair salary for a hard days work. Seasonal jobs include those who work at the pool, or in the mall during the holidays. Although these jobs are not a steady source of income, they can net alot of cash quickly, hence their popularity!

This play starred Marc Wilson as Seymour, Mollie Vigardt as Audrey, Cullyn Murphy as the dentist, Sara Salmon as Mrs. Mushnik, and Shannon Barkley as the infamous plant. The play is about a nerdy florist who accidently cuts his finger and his blood drips onto the plant. The plant grows larger and larger and Seymour comes to realize that this unusual plant actually thrives off of blood! The plant then becomes the main attraction at the Mushnik flower shop . The Drop Dead cost and staff toke a picture after a well d production

Drop Dead is best described as a play within a play It is a humerous story about a play that is being directed by a ¡director" who well, isn't playing with a full deck of cards The cast, or rather a bunch of washed up actors have to deal with many upsets and missed lines as they try to perform with quite a bit of improvisation . To make matters worse, members of the cast keep mysteriously dying Therefore Drop Dead is also a hilarious murder mystery as the actors have to figure out what is happenn1ng to the cast while simultaneously trying to complete the play. E ery night, he would take two bottles to bed, so when his uncle would come and take one away, there would be an extra hidd n underneath his pillow! ot a bad idea!

One day, when this baby came home from pre-school, he was sporting a large hole in hi~ ~hirt. Puzzled, his parents asked how it got there. He explained that he had an itch and wa~ tired of lifting up hi~ shirt to cratch it. o sense in wasting energy.

Fitness is something that every teen should participate in. This year Mr. Sitch and Ms. Lunsford encouraged students to try a new approach to exercise by teaching a body pump class. This course was added into the semester curriculum . Central P.E. teachers are also motivating students by inviting fitness guest speakers. One of the favorite guest speakers was Master Namsoo Hyong from HMO Acamdemy of Tae Kwon Do. Students enjoyed a different way of getting their fitness into their weekly routine. Not only can the students of Central participate in a fitness classes, but they can also take weight lifting with either Coach Jacobs or Ms. Lunsford. They can also take regular P.E. which is taught by Coach Watson, Coach Jefferson, Ms. Scott, and Mr. Pollard .

1 Ms.Lunsford makes her sixth hour class drop to give her twenty. Mr. Sitch teaches his eager body pump students. 3 Chase Andree spots his partner on bench press during weight lifting class. 4 Master Hyong teaches P.E. students basic Tae Kwan Do moves. 5 Master Hyong is challenging a student.

Putting it a on the fie d !though the 2008 Central softball team had yet another rebuilding season, they improved their record from last year. The team ended their season with a 3-23 record, along with beating Centennial 4-0 in the first game of Regionals. After losing only one senior from the year before, the team improved their skills that helped them beat Urbana, Decatur McArthur, and Centennial. Throughout the season, the girls worked hard to improve their record from the previous year, which had been the team's main goal. With yet another new coach, the team went into the regional game thinking they were bound to lose, but they put it all on the field and made it to the second round, where they lost to Danville 4-9 . The 2008 team lost six seniors; Andrea Frederick, Kelly Kyrouac, Carrie Nelson, Katie Bollinger, Kristine Brown, and MVP/ team captain Olivia Birkey, who will be continuing her softball career at Millikin University in Decatur, IL. Olivia also made All-Conference along with sophomore teammate Monica Rondon, who made All-Conference honorable mention . Although the team lost six valuable players, there are many returning players who are looking forward to a winning season, along with breaking the new coach curse after more than 10 years.

he 2008 Central Girls Soccer team was able to get off to a quick start, going 2-0-1 during the first three games. Unfortunately, the combination of only three returning starters and three key players being injured led to a tough stretch during the middle of the season . Central was consistently led throughout the year by team captains Sunita Karan, Amanda Greco, and Sarah Moe. The Maroons were able to finish the season well, winning two of their last three games. They completed the season with a final record of 5-13-2. They posted impressive wins against Decatur St Teresa, Danville, and a shutout win against Decatur Eisenhower. These victories gave the team plenty of confidence heading into postseason play, but Central lost a tough game to Centennial in the first round . With only seniors Libby Beck, Nayelli Lopez, and Sunita Karan graduating, the team will have plenty of varsity experience on the 2009 team Despite not having the best record as a team, Sophomore Mia Gilliam and Freshman Ellen Moe were recognized as All-Conference honorable mention. Juniors Sarah Moe and Amanda Greco both were honored as All-Conference. These four in addition to seven other varsity letter winnners are looking to have an outstanding season.

Kings of the Court he 2008 Central boy's tennis team had a solid season this year. The team finished 5th in the Big 12 and pulled ahead to win a respectable 3rd at Sectionals. Joel Yambert coveted the number one spot as a Junior and did very well. Fellow Junior Robbie Crow also did well as the number two player and together Yambert and Crow had a good overall record . Sophomores Keegan Bannon and Kendrith Rowland showed every one why they deserved to be the number two doubles team, when together they dominated the court. Unfortunately for the Maroons, three of the four tournaments were cancelled due to rain, but they did make it to one important tournment, the Edwardsville Tiger Duals. The boys worked hard and were dedicated, but they ended up with a 14th place finish . The team's most valuable player award went to Joel Yam bert who proved that he deserved it when he was named the singles champion at Sectionals. The following week the News-Gazette named him male athlete of the week. The team was very young but persevered and continued to get better throughout the season . Coach Scott Davis did very well as the tennis coach and throughout the season drilled the team with different exercises. The team did forehand, backhand, volley, and serving drills, which later helped them in match play. After a tough practice the JV and Varsity would get together to play a fun game of HBobsledH, which was a favorite among the team. The team only lost two seniors, Tom Chen and Hisham AI Hreish, so next season should be quite exciting and very promising . Coach Davis has one concern for next year; HI constantly wonder if I can ever get Joel Yam bert and Taylor Dillon to be quiet on the bus rides to matches!H

he 2008 Central boys track and field team had a pretty good season, especially towards the end when they won both Twin City and Sectionals. The season started out slow, but with enough time and effort, they were able to pull ahead of the competition . The team was lead by twelve seniors: Peter Hackley, Stan Adkisson, Steven Kesler, Kyle Kibler, Phillip Yoo, Reggie Pace, Sunga Mkwzalamba, Kevin Kaplan, Steven Lessaris, team captains Kurt Kibler and Russell Wetzel, and the team's MVP Quantrel Hedrick. Thirteen team members, including underclassmen lan Wells and Gabe Ramirez, also were recognized as All Conference. The returning runners have a lot of talent so the team has high hopes for next year, even after losing all of the talented seniors. he 2008 girls track and field team had more individual success than as a whole team. The team overall did not win whole meets, and if not for a mistake leading to a disqualification in Regionals, many ofthe girls would have participated in the Sectional meet. Life in the Fast Lane entral's 2008 girls swimming team had yet another outstanding season. The girls were lead by seniors, Tatum Stewart, Mamie Hobbs, Sara Hlinka, Courtney Lehmann, Mary Lockman, Jenn VanNess, and Rachel Garrick. Coached by Will Barker, the team dominated in the pool by winning the twin city dual meet, Big 12, and Sectionals. The swimmers did well in dual meets, but did lose to Normal U-High and Bloomington . The Charger and Bloomington Invites were also big events where our girls placed a respectable second at both . When it came time to break records, our girls did it through hard work. Mamie Hobbs, who is named MVP, broke the 50 free school record, which was previously held by her sister Ali. Mamie Hobbs along with Mary Lacine, Emma Newman, and Tatum Stewart broke the school and pool record in the 200 Medley Relay. Later on at State, Mamie Hobbs, Courtney Lehmann, Mary Lacine, and Hannah Newman broke the school record in the 400 Free Relay. Aubrie Luesse was the diver for the team and overall had a solid performance, therefore, allowing her to compete at Sectionals. After a great show at Sectionals, Mamie Hobbs, Emma Newman, Hannah Newman, Tatum Stewart, Courtney Lehmann, and Mary Lacine all qualified for state. Hobbs went to finals in the 50 Free and placed 12th. With the lose of many seniors, the team will be set back, but with Emma and Hannah Newman, Mary Lacine, and many talented upcoming freshman, the team should still be powerful

Run Centra Run! he 2008 Central boys cross country team had a successful season, despite injuries from a few varsity runners. Throughout the season, the boys worked hard, and although the team as a whole didn't do as well they had expected, there was plenty of individual success. When Regionals came around, the boys ran hard and placed 4th, qualifying them for Sectionals. During the Sectionals race, MVP Jordan Fox missed a qualifying spot to state by only two places. The team will be losing six seniors: Jordan Fox, Patrick Mazzocco, Adam Thies, Josh Clark, Max Foltz, and Roger Smith . Although the team is losing many talented runners, the returning team members have an immense amount of talent to make next season a great one. lthough the girls 2008 cross country team was rather small, they had a surprisingly successful season . It started out slow, but when Regionals rolled around the corner, the girls ran harder than they had all season . Four of the girls, Freshmen Jakeenya Evans and Anna Rodgers, sophomore Cornelia Osborne, and Junior Rory Mills, all qualified for the Sectionals race . The team will be losing only one Senior, Katie Wilkie, so there is much promise for next year.

he girls opened the basketball season at a Thanksgiving tournament in Chatham. They faced five talented teams, and were unable to get a victory against these impressive opponents. They then entered conference play and after a hard fought defeat at the hands of MacArthur, the girls got their first win of the season at Danville. The Maroons split games against their two cross town rivals, Urbana and Centennial. Urbana defeated them in a close game, but Central was able to rebound and destroy Centennial. As winter break came, the team played outstanding in Charleston, winning two of three games. After returning from this tournament, the girls gave it their all in an intense battle that ended in a loss against Springfield Southeast. One of the best performances in recent history came after this game, against Chicago Providence St. Mel. The Maroons trampled their opponent, winning by nearly fifty points. As conference play continued, they garnered victories against Centennial and Danville, not to mention a win against Monticello. Facing the conference-leading Urbana Tigers, the team was able to pull off an upset, defeating the Tigers on Urbana's Senior Night. Going into Regionals, the Maroons faced the same Urbana team and lost a hard game to close the season . Seniors Sheriah Mason and Shelby Strang will be greatly missed . Kierra Robinson and Okeima Hampton led the team, and look to lead the team to improvement next year.

Central's cheerleaders are responsible for keeping their fellow Maroons pumped, and if you have been any Central game, you know we are crazy for excitement! entral proudly sent four competitors to represent Central at competitions in Lake Zurich (Illinois), Lincoln-Way Central and Sectionals in Edwardsville. Central also hosted the Big 12 cheerleadin competition, in which we earned fifth ranking . Seniors Sydney Forrest and Tierra Norwood drove the team to greatness with their unmatched skill and spirit. Junio Katherine Simpson stepped up to hold Central's ranking in several competitions. No doubt Central's cheerleaders keep the fans happy; but they also keep the Maroo spirit alive!

The Le ac Continues his year's boy's swimming team had another outstanding season. The team was coached by Matt Hopkins, who was named Sectional coach of the Year. With returning seniors Mike Lacine, Colin McGill, Scot Chapman, Max Foltz, Robbie Crow, and Joel Yambert, the team was unstoppable. The team also had Tanner Heinen, a returning varsity swimmer who was a huge asset to the team. Central was also excited to gain three powerful freshman, Blake Lehmann, Sam Stewart, and Joey Faullin, all of whom were All Area Honorable Mention. Thomas Hlinka was the only returning diver along with one new comer, Tyler Tester. They both had a great season this year and will be divers to watch out for next year. The boy's swimming team had an excellent show at tournaments winning both the Sectional Championships and Twin City Meet for the second year in a row. Senior leaders Mike, and Colin McGill went to state in individual meets as well as in relays with Scot Chapman, Tanner Heinen, Blake Lehmann and Sam Stewart. Mike Lacine performed very well with a tenth place finish in the 100-yard Breaststroke and eight in the 200-yard Individual Medley. Lacine's outstanding state performance made it obvious that he was the team MVP, but not only was he the most valuable on the team, he was also the most valuable in the area, earning him News-Gazette All Area Swimmer of the Year for the second year in a row. This year's seniors will be missed but the team has plenty of underclassmen who are ready to carry on the legacy.

his year's wrestling team had a outstanding season . As a team the qualified for State and as individual Central sentfour. Aryn Gilenson, Evan Ellsworth, Nate Volk, and Deshaun Wh ite were the fou that competed . Volk and Ellsworth w ere clos to placing at State but it was Gilenson who came out on top placing fourth in the 125 lb .. class. As a team they won Regionals allowing them to qualify for Team State. The team los early on but was a part of the Elite 8. The team was young this year with few Sen iors so the following years look promising. Nate Volk and Julian Anastasia were the freshmen who really stood out this year. Nate Volk accomplished a great task by being the only freshman in history to go to State. Volk will definitely be a wrestler to watch out for in the upcoming years. Coach Scott had another great coaching year and will hopefully be around to keep producing amazing Central wrestlers.

I Love It! entral has some of the best sports teams in the area but what Central also has is the best fans and supporters a team could ask for. The Bleacher Bums and Babes were at it again this year, pumping up the crowd and getting everyone at Tommy Stewart Field or Combes Gym excited . Every home game at Tommy Stewart Field was full of Central fans. This year was a great year for football . Before every football game the bums and babes would tailgate in the Tommy Stewart Field parking lot. Students painted their bodies and faces, played games of bags and catch all while listening to music to get pumped up for the game. After assembling in the bleachers, the bums and babes were lead by Josh Proem mel and Timmie Johnson in the pregame stretch . This helped the fans loosen up for all of the screaming and jumping they would do later on in the game. This year the Bleacher Bums and Babes had a "Black Out" at the football game against Centennial where all of the fans dressed in black and wore black paint. Central's football team was victorious! During basketball season the atmosphere was no different. Central's fans came out to every home game and cheered on our guys on the court. There to help them were Central's pepettes, who were always a crowd pleaser and who always got the fans on the feet. As always, they were very entertaining and were a sight to be seen . For the home game against Centennial, the Bleacher Bums and Babes also held another "Black Out" where T-shirts were sold to raise money for Coaches vs. Cancer. Central's Bleacher Bums and Babes will miss this year's seniors but the juniors are ready to step up and cheer our sports teams on to victory. Bums are forever!

"We consider it our responsibility to create programs in our community that become the model for reinforcing communal change". Tragedy to Triumph initiatives seeks to improve on various skills already present in lowincome areas to enhance and improve the lives of the underserved. For example: Metanoia's Community Technology Center is dedicated to advancing the use of computing and communication technology in the community. Community Involvement Programs that include Bristol Place Neighborhood Watch which recruits people from the neighborhood to recognize and report suspicious activities in the area and the Back-School-Extravaganza that provides free school supplies and food to families in ShadowWood and Bristol Place. Saving the American Dream. Metanoia is an advocate for solution-based Foreclosure Prevention. Impressively the Board addresses a broad range of issues important to homeowners and families, (.e., lack of affordable housing, howmeownership education, predatory lending and foreclsoures, etc.), doing so with modest financial assistance. One of the services Metanoia Centers offer is the Review & Repair (Foreclosure Prevention) initiative in conjunction with the National Training & Information Center of Chicago and the Central Illinois Organizing Project. Through the R & R initiative, NTIC affiliate organizations work with troubled borrowers to submit a "Hotspot Card" to lender/service in order to secure a loan workout.

The CSA Initiative is an impending initiative that will provide a fixed number of children with a savings account. This account will be built upon by community members. community businesses as well as the account holders themselves. It is similar to an lOA (Individual Development Account) program. but CSA's goal is strikingly different! CSA will not just provide the savings account aspect of an IDA. CSA Program managers will work diligently with participants and financial experts within the community to offer our participants financial knowledge and teach the importance of financial stability and independence!

NDNPRDm ASSISTANCE: Since 1991. Metanoia has formed 9 Nonprofits throughout the United States ; the most recent. New Life Ministries in Danville. IL. and has secured $91.917.00 in funding. For more information contact: Rev. Eugene Barnes. T.H.D.. at (217-355-8423 or lnfo@metanoiacenters.org
