Atklāsme / Revelation Apgalvojums, ka mēs stāvam uz zemes, man tagad liekas visai apšaubāms. Viņdien es vēroju šoferus, kas, izkāpuši no mašīnām autostāvvietā, negāja projām, bet sāka staigāt pa viegli apsnigušo stāvlaukuma asfaltu un kaut ko pētīt sev zem kājām. Reizēm viņi sanāca kopā pa divi vai trīs un centās viens otram kaut ko parādīt uz zemes un pastāstīt. Vārdus es nedzirdēju, bet varēja saprast, ka brīžam viņi strīdējās, brīžam smējās, brīžam stāvēja nodurtām galvām un klusēja. Ar laiku staigājošo stāvu kļuva arvien vairāk. Tikai tad, kad sāka pavisam krēslot, viņi izklīda. Un tā tas atkārtojās arī nākamajā dienā. Tas mani pārliecināja, ka ne jau uz zemes mēs stāvam, bet uz zīmēm, mītiem, tēliem, stāstiem, pieņēmumiem, iztēles, pārsteigumiem, brīnumiem. Vienīgais, kas mani pārsteidza, ka šī atklāsme notika tik pēkšņi, kolektīvi un, pēc vēlāk precizētās informācijas, tikai šajā stāvlaukumā. / The contention that we are standing on the ground now seems altogether doubtful to me. The other day, I was observing drivers who, having got out of their cars in a car park, didn’t go away, but instead started walking around the car park asphalt which was covered with a light blanket of snow and staring at something under their feet. Occasionally, two or three of them would gather together and try to show and explain something on the ground to one another. I didn’t hear the words, but I could understand that at times they were arguing, at other times laughing, and occasionally just standing around silently staring down at the ground. As time went on, the number of walking statues increased. Only when dusk began to gradually set in did they disperse. And this process was repeated the next day. This convinced me that we are not standing on the ground, but rather on signs, myths, images, stories, assumptions, imagination, surprises and miracles. The only thing that surprised me was that this revelation occurred so suddenly, collectively and, according to subsequently verified information, Ivars Runkovskis
Fotogrāfijas ir uzsvērti mākslīgas: tās piesaista uzmanību ar melnbalto rakstu, ko pārtrauc grafiski laukumi, svītras un plankumi. Kadrējums veido perfektas abstraktas kompozīcijas. No otras puses, – fotogrāfs neko nav samākslojis. Viņš tikai ņēmis fragmentus no horizontālas virsmas, atrāvis tos no dabiskā zemes līmeņa, ierobežojis taisnstūros un pārvērtis attēlos. Tos katrs var novietot tādā stāvoklī pret zemi, kādā vien grib: vertikāli pie sienas kā izstāžu zālē vai kaut vai pie griestiem. Varbūt vislabāk tieši tur – jo kurš gan kaut reizi nav skatījies griestos, guļot uz muguras? Piešķirot tur redzamajam – pat ja nekā īpaša nav – , sev vien saprotamas nozīmes. Divi punkti un svītriņa veido seju, izplūdis plankums – figūru, horizontāla līnija – ainavu. Griesti gan ir tikai pastarpinājums skatam uz debesīm, kādas tās redzēja jau alu laikmeta cilvēki, redzot tajās Dvīņus, Lielos Greizos Ratus un ko tik vēl ne. Jānis Deinats atsedz veidu, kādā cilvēks no dabas rada attēlus un no tiem – tēlus: patiesībā ļoti grūti ir skatīties uz dabu tā, lai to pārvērstu abstraktā krāsu un formu salikumā, atstājot pilnīgi bez jebkādām nozīmēm. Tādēļ it kā vienkāršie zīmējumi uz asfalta atgādina par jau bērniem piemītošo spēju pazīt, piemēram, grāmatas ilustrācijā – kaķi vai fotogrāfijā – savu mammu. Interesanti, ka neviena tehniska ierīce to nevar. / The photographs are deliberately artificial: they attract attention with their black-and-white script, which is interrupted by graphic fields, stripes and spots. The framing is comprised of perfect abstract compositions. On the other hand - the photographer has not staged anything. He has only taken fragments from a horizontal surface, separated them from natural ground level, and confined them to rectangles and transformed them into images. They can be placed by anyone in whatever state in relation to the ground that they desire: vertical on the wall as in an exhibition hall or even on the ceiling. Maybe that would be the perfect place – because who among us has not stared up at the ceiling while lying on one’s back. Giving that which we see there – even if it’s nothing special – a meaning comprehensible only to ourselves. Two points and a stripe form a face; a liquid patch forms a figure, while a horizontal line becomes a landscape. However, the ceiling is only a halfway house en route to the sky as seen by cave age people, who saw in it Gemini, Great crooked chariots and much else besides. Jānis Deinats reveals a way how a person creates imagery from nature and from this – characters: in truth, it’s very hard to view nature in such a way as to transform it into an abstract composition of colours and forms, rendering it utterly devoid of meaning. Therefore, seemingly simple drawings on asphalt remind one of the ability that kids have to recognise a cat in a book illustration or their mother in a photograph.
